  1. I'm using Evernote Mac client. The thing is, for months since Evernote have updated the design to tasteless UI, typing on Evernote have become very annoying. I'm a fast typist, and I love to be able to move my cursor using directional key (up, left, right, down) quickly. But, when I start typing on Evernote for a few minutes, the keyboard response will become super slow compare to when I just start typing. The slowness happens when you hold the directional key down to navigate through multiple characters, to the point where moving mouse or repeatedly click the navigation key has become a faster method. To solve this, I have to click any other note and get back to the current note I have been typing and the cursor will become faster again, for another few minutes. If Evernote's core product is the note-taking, then this should be priority.
  2. I noticed around 2 weeks ago Evernote was extremely slow. I thought one of my notes was getting to large and I created a new one. Things seemed ok for about a week and it happened again. Evernote has not worked properly in almost a week. When I open Evernote I must wait for at least 30 seconds before I can get a response from anything I try to do within the program. When I open a note I must wait the same length of time before I can edit the note. Evernote does not work properly using IOS, Windows, or Android. But, the delays seem somewhat less using an IOS device. I have not noticed any other issues with any of my devices. The problem seems isolated to Evernote. I really like the program but if this continues I will need to find something new. Thanks
  3. Hello Evernote pals! First post here. Pretty happy Premium user. Experiencing a few issues with Web Clipper. In roughly descending order of importance (to me of course :-) ) tl;dr: In 2017, I need <1s clip speed, near-perfect page parsing (preferably using the *already locally parsed and downloaded content*), and no changes in scroll position of the page should *ever* happen when I click the Clip button. 1. Speed. Clipper needs to be fast and it just isn't. RIght now Pinboard and Pocket are absolutely blowing it out of the water on Firefox on a reasonably quick 2014 rMBP with 8 GB RAM. Pocket may have some advantages due to being "built in" with native code, but as far as I can tell both services are hitting backend servers to do the actual clipping and saving (of course, please correct me if I'm wrong - and that brings its own issues - see #2 below). In any case, I consider the Clipper's speed to be so poor as to be a usability bug. Since I started playing with Pocket recently, clicking on the elephant and waiting for that slow, lumbering spinner of doom while it loads up whatever and talks to whatever is something I have begun to dread. This is too bad since Evernote is quickly becoming my "system of record" / "external brain", as it has for many others here I'd imagine. The performance issue is especially difficult to tolerate as a user given that it's a paid service, and the output of the clips is not always outstanding (and in some cases quite poor actually - see #2 below). 2. Clip Quality. Clipper doesn't do a *great* job with a lot of web pages. I've done a bit of a "bake off" with Pocket and also the Mercury Chrome extension, and found Clipper to be left somewhat wanting - esp. considering that it's attached to a paid product. In a few cases it just barfs on a page that Pocket or Mercury can parse and display just fine. More to the point, I've deduced that it must talk to a backend server that does the actual fetching and parsing, since I've clipped a page on a site that I'm viewing just fine in my browser (e.g. a NYT page), only to go to my Evernote later and find that it clipped the partial page with the "you've hit 10 articles" or whatever warning, making the clip effectively useless. And there's no way to know that a clip "went bad" except by checking my Evernote compulsively, which is ... kind of defeating the point of computers. This is especially annoying considering that I've already downloaded the content locally, with access to the entire page and all images, etc., only to have the article clip extremely poorly because (apparently?) the client is not actually driving the clipping, but some backend service. 3. One Really Serious UX issue: When I clip a page, it jumps back up to the top of the page from where I am. Especially when I'm partway through a long article, this is *extremely* disorienting because I lose my place. Nothing software does should change the user's position on a page, or jump the UI around in a janky way without the user's input.. Evernote PMs, I don't know if y'all are reading these forums, but: please think about prioritizing the Clipper. I use Evernote in large part because I want an external brain where I save things I read on the web. If it isn't "a darn near perfect clip, in less than a second, every single time", it's making me think about its existence, in which case it's not necessarily solving a problem for me but creating one. I would *love* to be delighted by the Clipper instead of ranging from the best-case "it's OK I guess, but I dread clicking because it's going to hang for 3 seconds and possibly lose my place in the article" to the worse "why doesn't this work as well as Pocket, it didn't clip my page correctly at all, nooooo". I love Evernote. It's very very good, and I want it to be amazing. I know y'all are working hard and have a lot of various codebases to maintain, and probably not enough people to do it all to the level you'd like. So I'll close by saying: thanks for your hard work, and thanks for listening.
  4. I've noticed that over the years the web product (and windows desktop) products have become slower and slower to use. It might be related to the number of notes I have but it has caused all tasks to take just a little too long. If I try to open a note it takes just long enough for me to almost forget what I'm doing. (insert sarcastic comment about being old) Or it takes so long to add/remove a tag that I go off to another tab. Overall the performance of the tools is becoming frustratingly slow and I would appreciate some attention on this issue. Anyone else noticing that it's not as fast as it used to be?
  5. I've been experiencing this issue for a while now. First, let me say this is not a hardware problem. I'm using a Surface Pro 3, i5, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Everytime I run Evernote, at first it runs pretty nice, with no lag. But after a little while, Evernote starts to increase the cpu usage and the performance sunks down. Just by browsing the notes list with the mouse, the cpu usage goes up to 30%. The simple task of opening a note takes at least 5 seconds, even more if the note is a big one with formatted text. The picture below shows what I'm saying. In this picture, I'm just moving the mouse cursor over the notes' list and Evernote cpu usage goes up to 30%! And it is slow as hell to browse the notes. Anyone experiencing the same issue? I have Evernote installed on my Work PC with Windows 7 and I don't have this issue. I already tried uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller and reinstalling and I tried renaming the database folder and sync all my notes again with no success. I'm deeply invested on Evernote, and this issue is tearing apart my productivity.
  6. For as long as I can remember, Evernote windows app freezes for about 30 seconds with a "Not Responding" from Windows. This happens when I paste a bunch of text into an existing document (same doc, modified, about 50k long), encrypt a document, sometimes on a search. I'm on a reasonably fast computer, 8core cpu, Win7, SSD. This seems pretty backwards. Anyone know why this happens, or how to improve it?? thnx,
  7. I found that on every computer - Mac or Gnu/Linux - after installing of Evernote Clipper - browser lost some speed of loading of every page. And I found why - and I think that this is incorrect design of software - in the source code of Clipper I found that your extension (that I love to use - like Evernote at all) inject HUJE portion of js into memory - even when user does not use extension now: Quote from official documentation about developing of extensions for Chrome: Caution: Consider using event pages instead that persistent false.
  8. Evernote 8.1 on iOS 10.2.1 on an iPhone 6 is slow to startup. When I tap the icon to load the app I have to wait about 15 seconds for the app to become responsive. The delay is okay, but the frustrating thing is that there's no way to tell that the app is still starting up. Ideally, improve the start time to be comparable with the native iOS Mail App, which is ready to go in a second or two. Failing that, if you could add some sort of indicator that the App is still starting up that would be an improvement. That way, I know that I'll have to wait a few seconds before I can start using it.
  9. Hello! I use an iPad Air 2 and had the same problems with the performance of version 8. I waited 10 seconds until I was able to scroll and edit notes. The solution is very easy: Delete the App on the iPad completely and load it in the store again. Now it's faster than before the update. You will love your Evernote again. So don't hesitate... :-) Have fun! Greetings, Timo
  10. Evernote (not responding) happens for me nearly every time I attempt to open it. A look at the Task Manager shows that it is, in fact, working, just ever so slowly. Chrome also shows (not responding) from time to time, about monthly. Evernote does it several times a day. You update quite often and I keep hoping the new update will work more quickly but, as of today's new update, it's the same old (not responding). Please, fix it or tell me how to fix it.
  11. When the 12.9" iPad Pro and Evernote combination became available, my needs for an electronic day journal were finally answered. For around 12 months, I have had a close to perfect solution in this regard. That is, until Version 8 arrived. My near-perfect experience is now sullied by constant slow running and pauses, for 1-5 seconds, before I can proceed. My note-taking train of thought is interrupted by these performance problems with Version 8. Are others experiencing this problem? Can Evernote please fix it very quickly? Many thanks,
  12. I feel that performance of Chrome decreased after installing and log-in to Clipper. Also look at attached screenshot - all your js must be in one file for logical encapsulation and performance.
  13. Hello, After updating to iOS 10 on the iPad mini, and updating Evernote to 7.17.1, the performance of the app when entering notes, or typing *anything* in Evernote is abysmal. Meaning that, it will on average, take 5-10 seconds after having typed a sentence for the keyboard to animate and for the characters to display onscreen. Have restarted - more than once - and have tried deleting/reinstalling, but the behavior remains. Kind of stuck on this one - any thoughts welcome. Thanks.
  14. I am using Evernote as a trading journal, most specifically for options trades. Currently, I add screenshots, and compose why I entered and exited a trade. The ability to compile and track data related to the trades would help maximize the use of Evernote as a trading journal. How might it be possible to compile data from each trade and compute various performance metrics within a notebook? Thanks for the help
  15. I'm running Evernote 5.8.13 and I get hangings quite often (several a day). Evernote freezes and (Not Responding) can be seen on the window title. I tried to wait it off , but they last more that 10 minutes and sometimes seems to hang forever. I just Optimized Database and I still see the hangings. I have 10812 and many tags (I cannot see how many though). The size of the Evernote database is ~7 GBs. Is there anything I can do to pinpoint the cause of the hangings. I usually notice them when I'm about to edit a note. Best regards/Ruben.
  16. This pertains to recent fresh setup - including evernote - on an ios 7 ipad 4, an ios 8 iphone 5, and an android 4.4.2 galaxy note 2 ... I have a fast fiber optic broadband and halfway decent wired and wireless connections ... my other uses have not had similar bandwidth/download/upload issues. 2.1 GB (total) of notebook data in my two offline notebooks took just shy if 48 hours to download on the initial sync if freshly reset devices. This was done independantly over the last few weeks. similar result in each device. The larger of the two notebooks has about 3200 notes. I've noticed similarly long upload times for file attachments. The maxumum for a note (iirc) is 100 MB. This has taken around 45 to 90 minutes to sync. I've been a moderate premium evernote user for a few years now and my ever evolving system organisation has come to the point where I wanted to use evernote to truly 'capture everything' so I can be nearly paperless. With a 4GB monthly upload allowance, theoretically unlimitted total storage (as far as 4GB a month goes) ... etc... this seems exactly a fundimentally intended use of the service for which I pay.... However. In practicle terms I must reconsidder this entire strategy and therefore the evernote tool. Given the consistently slow upload and download connections with evernote servers the 100 MB note limit and 4GB upload allowence is of no practical relevamce. I could not organise my data with such a cripling limitation. I've seen from other threads others have had similar issues. Evernote is a fantastic and flexible tool with wonderful potential. This issue however sabatoges much of it and makes me now consider finding another solution and canceling my premium subscription. I am located in London, UK. Perhaps there is a way to optimise my network path to local mirrors or some such??? my account was originally and still is a USA account in $$, This might be relevant perhaps if I'm routed through servers in California where if I had a UK £ account I'd be routed to more local servers and see much faster connections ... Thanks for help and consideration to help improve a great product if possible. -DL
  17. Hi, Is it me only or other people think that Evernote on Mac is very very sluggish ! Mainly I'm talking about how it scrolls and the overall performance For example take a look at the scrolling speed of Spotify and then get back to Evernote and test it again.. it doesn't look right (It's like other apps uses GPU for that but it uses the CPU maybe ?) I have: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with Yosemite 10.10.3 installed I also mentioned here that the left pane is useless but I'm not sure if anyone is really listening Also now after not seeing any changes for a while I'm a bit curious about the development road map of Evernote for Mac and if anyone is even aware of these issues To be honest I think that the whole Mac client needs to be rebuilt.
  18. Hi there, just submitted a ticket to Evernote, and wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same post Windows 10 update and has discovered a better workaround. Here's the issue: Since I upgraded to Windows 10 I've noticed a catastrophic degredation in performance in Windows when Evernote starts up simultaneously with the computer or if Evernote is running when I lock the screen (or the laptop goes into sleep mode) and I subsequently unlock/wake it up. In these circumstances the computer loses focus and jumps out of the activity I'm doing momentarily every few seconds, making it almost impossible to type (keystrokes are missed) or select things from menus (the focus leaves the menu before I can select the item). This loss of focus is evident in all Windows activities, not just Evernote, but only if Evernote is running. The only solution I have discovered so far is to close Evernote and open it again. This is not a good solution because I have a large database, which I assume is the reason Evernote takes a long time to start up.
  19. Hi All, Evernote is the center of my working life, but I've really been struggling with slowness issues lately. Some notes can take 30 seconds - 1 minute + to open, and I started to notice that notes I frequently opened and updated would become slower and slower and slower as time went on. I tried the usual steps like rebuilding the database, re-installing, etc. and I did find it worked, kind of... for a time. Without a doubt my most opened note in my entire database is my To Do list. I use this one file to organize both my personal and professional life. As of about 5 minutes ago it had started to take about 2 minutes plus to switch to it, and would kick my processor into overdrive. Pretty ridiculous. Just a simple text file with some simple formatting, or so I thought... Here are 2 notes, exactly the same at first glance, but check out the underlying code by opening them with your text edior: Test Note 1 (dropbox) Test Note 2 (dropbox) *save file, open with notepad There is a ton of redundant and excessive formatting code in Test Note 1. Test Note 2 is totally clean. I simply took the content from Test Note 1 (in evernote), copied it to notepad, and then pasted it back into a new note and reformatted it (in evernote). This removed all of the excessive & eroneous formatting. So you can imagine that if you have a note (like my To Do note) that is updated, modified, formatted etc on a daily basis. Over time this file's underlying code will become more and more bloated with useless code. So even though the note looks simple enough on the surface, underneath it is a cesspool of useless and redundant formatting. So I have 2 questions 1) Can evernote fix this with a simple patch that aims to detect redundant formatting code and clean it up? 2) If not then maybe someone can code up a simple app/tool that allows you to export a .enex file, process it with the tool to remove excessive formatting, and then re-import it into evernote. could even do this in bulk, or even just have the tool go right into evernote and clear it out. Anyways that's about it. Thought I would share that. Evernote is running like a charm now. Thanks, inline99.
  20. Just wanted to report that for the last couple of days, syncing have been very, very slow on my desktop Windows version (5.6.4.4632). I wanted to know if I am the only one. Can it be related to some Evernote server issue, or is the problem local?
  21. Ever since I updated to Evernote 6 on my Mac, my CPU is constantly at 100% (1 core). I've tried updating to 6.0.5 (App Store), logging out, rebooting and logging back in. That didn't do anything at all. I've submitted a support request, and after 5 days of silence I received the very unhelpful "update to Evernote 6.0.5" response. I let them know that didn't work, but I'm not holding my breath. Have any other forum users found a work around? I've seen suggestions around deleting my Evernote database and re-syncing from the servers, but I can't find specific instructions or even whether that will fix my specific issue. Does anyone have any idea what Evernote could be doing with one full core of my CPU? That's a lot of utilization for something that is largely a word processor. Disappointed in Evernote.
  22. Heya! I'm not sure if I'm the only one, I know there were bugs reported with 6.0.5 with high CPU utilization, but ever since I moved from beta to release channel 6.1, my CPU regularly hovers around 100-300% of my eight-cores (1-3 cores). Is Evernote processing notes in the background since the update? I'm not noticing any bandwidth utilization. How can I go about seeing what Evernote is doing?
  23. In the past few days Evernote has been running slower and slower on my iphone, almost to the point where it seems frozen. Any idea what's going on? Could I have too many notes? Is it a problem with Evernote. I love Evernote but can't use it if it's not responsive. Help please!
  24. Not sure which update did this but lately on my Evernote app on my Mac Pro (2012 model) when I tick a checkbox or type there's a ridiculous lag time. To the point where it's not really useful. First noticed when I'd check a "to do" box and nothing would happen. Then I'd check it again only to see the program check and then uncheck the box. I've been using Evernote for a few years. Anyone else having this problem? I don't know what's going on 'under the hood' but simple typing, in 2014, should not tax a processor. My Evernote (Evernote 5.6.2 ) is up to date. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks.
  25. I'm a premium user of Evernote for Mac 6.0.8, which is the latest version, keep running out of memory on my MBP 13" Retina. After several uninstall and reinstall. The problem still happened. Do you any suggestion? Thanks.
