  1. Konichiwa, Evernote Community. Pleased to see you. Let's get into it. Keyboard navigation. What are your favourite hacks and workflows and keyboard shortcuts in Evernote? I am currently seeking the keyboard shortcut to tab around the note space. For example, when I open a new note (^⌥⌘-N) it drops me into the main note taking space. But without touching the trackpad, how to I edit notebook and tags? Inquisitive minds would like to know!
  2. Whenever we click a link system asks a permission that you are navigating out of evernote. Do you want to continue ? I do not want that warning message, its just wastage of time. If i have clicked on link obviously i want to go there. There should be a way to switch it off
  3. It would be nice to be able to drag the elements of the left menu in the desktop app into whatever order we prefer. I want "All Notes" on top because I use it to quickly find my most recent notes. It can become hard to get to if I have a very long shortcuts list (which I do). I would have added "All Notes" to my shortcuts if I could.
  4. When you are using creating tables in a note on mac and you are trying to navigate to input cells, it only goes left to right (as in up_key=left down_key=right). Instead it would make usability better if you could use the Excel style of inputing, as in Left/Right/Up/Down navigation with arrow keys Tab to go to next column's cell Enter to go to next row's cell
  5. For some reason (other than old age!), I've had the hardest time learning the keyboard shortcut keys in the Evernote Windows program for moving among the Left Panel, the Note List , and the current note I'm editing. It's annoying to have to use the mouse for all that. I had all the information in a list-of-all-the-shortcuts note buried in a Using Evernote notebook that I'd created. But I wanted faster access. So I created a note whose first line (and therefore title) was "TAB: Left<>Search<>List<>Title". In the body of the note, I expanded on this with some instructions: Use the Tab key to move from Left Panel > Search Bar > Note List > Title field of current note. Shift+Tab reverses direction. Tab from Title field moves to body of note. Use Esc to move from body of note to Note List. Then--and here comes the brilliant part--I dragged the note onto the shortcuts (which I keep in the toolbar at top). I massaged the note title till it was as above, which will completely display in the shortcuts. Now, whenever I forget, I can just glance at my toolbar, and there's the basic info as a shortcut: "TAB: Left<>Search<>List<>Title". If that proves too cryptic, I can always click on it and bring up the note. Thank you, folks, thank you very much.
  6. Hi, Whenever I tried to navigate to a notebook which I want to share, There is no "search panel" for me to navigate, instead I have scroll through all notebooks to pick. This feature has been done nicely in Apple Notes, it saves me a lot of time.
  7. Evernote is great for collecting information, but I find it frustrating that it's so difficult to manipulate and manage information from the app. Since I use Evernote to take notes during classes and meetings, I'm generally torn about when to create a new note vs just adding a new section. The outline quick links added to Google Drive has dramatically improved my ability to compose and iterate on documents in that tool. I'd love to see something similar for Evernote.
  8. When I'm typing a note, the cursor keeps jumping to the leading edge of the note's title. I'm not sure what keystroke or combination thereof I am using. Is there a setting I can change this navigation "feature"?
  9. I try to use EVERNOTE instead Microsoft "One note". One Note has tabs on top and tabs on side, so I use Notebooks like a top tabs and tags like a side tabs. It's give me more flexibility in notes belonging. But I can't view tags only for specific notebook. I think the tree view of Notebook -> Tags can really help in this and will helpful for all :-)
  10. fn + rightArrow should scroll to the end of a note in the note's window pane, and fn + leftarrow should scroll to the top. Just like every other mac app, and just like the other windows / panes in evernote. But it does not.
  11. Hello. I've noticed some problems with navigation in the Windows version. 1. Navigation with Notebook links Following links to notes and then using the navigation buttons does not work For example, I select a bunch of new notes and create a Table Of Content (TOC). Click the first note, go back, click the second note, go back. Boom. I am not in TOC. 2. Navigation in Presentation mode a: Between multiple notes Creating this TOC came about as a workaround for loosing navigation between notes in presentation-mode. Typically I would have notes on a project I'm working on in a project notebook. Then I want to present some of these notes to show status or ideas or whatever, so I selected those and presented them. But there is no longer possible to move to the next note. It seems strange to expect that the idea here is that one would typically only want to present a single note. Especially since "Start Presentation" is still an option along with "merge" etc. when selecting multiple notes. Also if one wanted to use one giant note for everything, then why not just use Word. (At least there would be less problems with formatting ;-) b: Buttons&Shortcuts So a TOC was created as a starting point for the presentation. But after clicking the first link there is not way to navigate back to TOC. This is because: 1) there is not buttons for it, and 2) the keyboard shortcut that works in regular-mode (ALT+arrow) does not work in presentation mode.
  12. Frequently, after doing a search or some other activity in EN for Windows I find that I am somewhere in the middle of a long list of notes. I want to move to the top of the notes to my most recents, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that quickly. If I click on the column headings to sort by when created or updated, I'm stick stuck somewhere in my notes list, and I have thousands. To get back to the top I find myself having to tediously scroll or drag the note bar to get to the top which takes time. In the past I never seem to have this problem (or just didn't notice it), but lately it happens to me frequently. I'm using EN for Windows (6.4.2.3788) on a Windows 10 machine. Thanks for any help. Michael
  13. Here is the scenario: you choose a notebook, then you want to explore tags in the notebook- all using the left navigation window. Here is the best way I have found: 1) select (left click) the notebook 2) hold down cntl and select (left click) a tag This produces the desired result - but say you now want to select a different tag (and maintain the notebook selection), you now have to: 3) hold down cntl and click the new tag 4) keep holding the cntl key and unselect the previous tag Its this forth step of "unselecting" the previous tag (before or after selecting the new tag) that I am finding tedious. I'm posting this in case someone knwos of a keyboard shortcut, use of keyboard navigation rather than mouse, or choosing an option in settings that could make for less tediousness. Hopefully i am missing something rather than EN missing something.. Using the latest EN beta on Windows 7.
  14. How the hell do I navigate BACK (and forward, for that matter) in the main evernote window? I mean there were buttons for that before - now they're gone. I know there are buttons for that in the "note view", that is if I open a note in the separate window. BTW, why the **** would you hide them at any time for any reason? It took me ages until I spotted that they actually are there, but only show up, if you navigate to another note via a note link. Are you intentionally trying to make it more confusing and difficult to use your software? Anyway, most of the time I don't open notes in separate window, why would I? Why would I use 2 windows to find one note and have a quick glance at what I need? And that's even though I have a 3 monitor setup and quite enough of desktop space. I know many people may have different habits, but the point is mute here - navigation is a must. There WERE navigation buttons before, I'm pretty sure I have not dreamt about using them for years before. Why the hell would you remove the most basic and essential part of any software - to navigate around your application? Is evernote moving towards a design with 1 single huge note that has everything in it? Because if (obviously) not, you need a way to navigate back and forth between the things that you have more than 1 of. I am seriously baffled. I tried to be patient for months now, hoping it's another weird temporary problem, but enough is enough. I would like, very much, to hear a reasonable explanation behind this. Because I can't help but feel, this is just plain ******* stupid. Thanks in advance. P.S. I'm a paying customer for about 7 years. This is my first ever topic. Please, don't even start about me being harsh... I've been patient enough, and finally want to know a reason for at least one (of many many) stupid things evernote is doing...
  15. I use Evernote to scout photography locations. It's incredibly helpful, but there is a serious limitation to "Places" and mapping data in Evernote, you cannot navigate to a point of interest. Evernote does not have navigation tools (such as offline maps and turn by turn directions). That would be no problem with a simple fix: This could easily be overcome if the map pin would allow the user to "open in" a mapping app such as Google Maps. Even just displaying/copying the latitude and longitude would be a significant improvement (which could be used with apps like GPS Tracks to find your way). Attached is a screen shot showing the limitation of Evernote, and one possible solution that should be easy to implement. Please add support for this, it is a critical feature to use geolocation data in notes.
  16. Hi, first of all, the new web client looks great! However, there is something that I'm still missing. The URL in the adressbar never changes. It is always https://www.evernote.com/Home.action. When I reload the page I don't reload the page I'm currently on is reloaded but I get redirected to the "Home" page. I would prefer it if the url would change with everything I do. So when I select all notes with the tag ABC I would expect the url to change to https://www.evernote.com/tags/ABC or something similar.
  17. I may have missed this, but is it possible to reorder things in the left hand navigation area? In particular I would like my Saved Searches section to appear above my Tags Section, so that (in order) I see Notebooks, Saved Searches, Tags, Attributes, Trash. Thanks, Dave
  18. If you double click on a snippet and open the note in a new window and then close the main evernote window, you are now in an orphaned state. As far as I can tell there is no way to get back to the main window, you have to start evernote again. You can't search from this orphan window, you can't do much of anything except open more new orphan windows from the related notes. Although I have found it useful to open a slew of related notes, at some point I will want to get back to the main one and it seems obvious to me that I should have button somewhere at the top of the single note window that will turn it into a main window, or send me to it.
  19. I often go to the all notes location on the left hand column, the stack/notebook hierarchy. I spot the note I was looking for in the snippet column and click on it. I notice that this note got put in notebook X. But in order to look at what other notes are in notebook X, I have to scoll and scroll in the stack/notebook hierarchy column. I would expect a right click on the snippet ought to have a choice to go to the containing notebook. The scolling in the stack/notebook hierarchy column wouldn't be anywhere near as tedious if I could right click on anything in there and have to option to collapse or expand the whole list.
  20. Is it possible to assign hotkeys for "go back", "go forward" commands without using third party applications ? These are the commands(buttons) I'm talking about, which allow to navigate to previous/next note: Version: Windows 7, Evernote 5.0.3.1614. Thanks!
  21. I have a shortcut to a todo note in one of my notebooks. When I click on the shortcut, the note appears in the right hand panel. Good. Same thing if I search. And the snippet shows up in the current sort context, but of all notes, not the notes in the notebook the found note belongs to. Even worse, when I have a note link in my todo list to a note in a different notebook, same thing -- note shows up, but while I can see the notebook it belongs to, I can't get to that notebook. And I can't even see what stack this note I found is in. Hey, what's the point of having stacks and notebooks if I can't easily get from a note to the list of notes in the notebook that note is from? Or the stack of notebooks relevant to that note? The only way to navigate to a notebook is by scrolling in the left hand panel. Why? Why is there no way to easily click on something in the note to get back to it's parent notebook, like any normal hierarchical system provides? i do like the new way of displaying the stacks when you click on notebooks and the right panel becomes a kind of map. However, that does not solve the problem of what stack is the notebook in that has the note I want see in context. And, though I have a nice count in a couple of places about how many notes I have, there doesn't seem to be any stats on how many notebooks or stacks I have. I realize the focus is on notes, but why can't we navigate easier? I would really like to know why Evernote seems to consider more than two levels a bad idea? A simple navigation problem like the above would simply not happen in a true hierarchical system. If nothing else, use "breadcrumbs", please. I'm actually very surprised you don't have breadcrumbs in the note header. That seems to me to be a no brainer. While it's nice to see the notebook name there, it strikes me as user hostile that in order to get to that notebook I have to go over and spend sometimes quite a bit of time scrolling through the left panel to get to it. That new info drop down is the perfect place to put links to both the notebook and the stack. And please reconsider having a few more levels. Smugmug stuck with Category/subcategory/gallery for many years. Finally the most recent revision rolled out 7 levels because the vast majority of pro users need better organization than you can get with just two levels above the basic element of that application, the photo gallery. I've seen a lot of requests for more levels in Evernote, and I would bet the percentage among premium users is pretty high, since we are looking for an organizational tools as well as slick way to clip from the internet and keep track of research or whatever. Tags are not a substitute for organizing your thoughts or organizing a project. They are very helpful for coordinating ideas, and doing mind maps, searches and similar things, but they are not an organizational tool. When i want to organize, and when most business organize, they want folders that can nest as deep as needed. Like google drive folders. I have no problem with warning messages popping up when I create 6th or 7th level stack telling me my performance is going to be hurt by going that deep. (if it will be).
  22. I've got Evernote set up like a wiki, with lots of cross-links between notes. I've been hunting for a while now but, best I can tell, 5.0 does not provide any way to navigate back to a note once you have followed a note link. The previous version had back and forward buttons in the toolbar. Is there a keyboard shortcut or something I can use to navigate back? I don't see anything on the Knowledge Base article. Thanks!
  23. Hi everyone, I suspect, many EN users reading their attached pdf files feel disappointed time after time, as it is not possible to jump from a one section of the document to an other. Specially, when you have a document with hundreds of pages. Or, if you just want to make a quick review through all document, it takes multiple clicks to access page number 214 etc. Would be nice to have a side panel navigation inside pdf note page itself, for quick navigation through all document. As well, very handy would be to have a key navigation feature, using arrows, for example, on the keyboard. Easier and faster, then just trying to click on the small triangles at the top of the note window. What do you think? I know, I can open an external viewer to read my pdf file, but I like auto-adjustable feature of the EN window, it always keeps the width of a pdf file equal to the width of the EN window. And for efficiency, I just would not need to open an external viewer. Best regards,
  24. Hi everybody! These features would greatly improve my workflow: Back/forward buttons: like an webpage, It's common to go back and forth into different notes (saves clicks and browsing time into notes and notebooks) List view for notes: the actual square note display is great and I love it - but sometimes I need to quickly browse through a big list of notes and a common list view feature would be great. Internal links between notes: to better organize content and navigate through notes. For last: when working with pasted formated text, it would be good if Evernote could maintain the text editing format: it often set's back to the default App font. thanks for a great App & Service
  25. If I'm editing a note in a notebook, say 'tasks', and I decide it would be better kept in a notebook 'projects', I change the notebook and frequently find myself editing a completely different note before I realise that the original note HAS MOVED to 'projects' but I haven't, so I'm now looking at a different note in 'tasks'. I think it would be more intuitive to assume that, if I'm editing a particular note, I should stay with it. This would mean that EN, after my editing of the notebook, would switch me to that notebook - leaving me in the same task. Currently it stays in the original notebook but switches me into a different note - I have often found myself editing tags etc. in the wrong note because I haven't noticed the original one has gone (to its new notebook). or is it just my brain that is strange?
