  1. Had a note started on ios (latest version / iPhone x). Moved over to windows web client (windows 10) but notebook offline. typed large amount of content. Brought laptop home and connected to the internet. There's no obvious synch icon, so I hit refresh in the browser, thinking this would force a sycn and I'd incorporate the ios content with the web content, or maybe get a "which note do you want to save" message. To my dismay, it simply wiped out my content on the web note and loaded the ios note. Went through browser history thinking I could get a rendition of the unsynched note and quick copy the content but no joy. I remember a "sync issues" note from prior versions of EN that would hold this kind of "lost in space content" but didn't see that either. Is there any way to get that content back ??!! Beyond that, with unsynched content on a web note, if hitting synch or refresh will trash your content, at that point, how you are you supposed to preserve your content in EN? Brutal.
  2. Evernote for iOS is losing data. I have lost content within notes. It's happening with alarming frequency. (At least six times in the past 2 months). I keep a regular log of medications I take and it's rather important to me. I lost a full day of the log's data when I looked this morning -- everything I had entered for yesterday and the evening prior was gone -- I lost 36 hours worth of data for no justifiable reason. There certainly has no user error here. It was just gone. I didn't delete it by accident. We need to have Note History available to us at all times. I know the data is backed up somewhere. I shouldn't have to pay for Evernote Premium to have a sense of security over my information (Note -- I do pay for the Plus tier -- and I thought I had Note History available but it seems like that feature was stripped away at some point). However now considering that data is being deleted by Evernote on a regular basis -- this history feature should just be FREE to all because otherwise, we have no way of retrieving data that was lost THROUGH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. I am getting so frustrated with the lack of reliability in Evernote -- and this bug needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY. Until it is fixed, the Note History features should be readily/freely available to all. The current state of affairs in INEXCUSABLE.
  3. Hi there. An old version of a note was on my iphone (apparently the newest version of the note never synced to my phone?). My newest version of the note was on my desktop, but it apparently never synced to the server. The old version of the note on my on my iphone synced to the server after I opened the iPhone app to see my newest version was there, and when i opened my desktop this morning the new version was overwritten by the old version from the iphone. how do i revert back?
  4. I upgraded to iOS 8 on my iPhone and my iPad, and when the upgrade was complete, all of my notes in Evernote were gone. I've tried reinstalling the software, I've done searches, and I cannot get those notes back. No one seems to be able to help me, I contacted Evernote support and they told me they can't answer me personally, so they're closing the ticket. This is a big deal; I had four years worth of notes, and they're just gone, and no one at Evernote will assist me. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
  5. 2/3rd of the pages of a book I started writing in Evernote (Windows app) recently disappeared. One would think that, since Evernote's primary purpose is to retain notes, this sort of thing would not happen. The missing pages were written during the month of April (2017). The missing pages are not in a "trash" folder. Maybe they are in a revision history, but of course I can't access that without upgrading. I have tried several times to contact support through chat, but the website always says chat is unavailable -- even during its posted operational hours. And, of course, emailing support is only an option for premium users. I have lost countless hours of work and it seems there is no recourse other than to upgrade, but that provides no guarantees the lost data will be recovered.
  6. So I've been working on a piece of writing for a few months now, and I usually allow automatic updates for apps on my computer as it has never caused any problem before. I open my computer to see that Evernote has updated, and that TWO THIRDS OF MY PIECE HAS DISAPPEARED. It's not in the trash folder, and I even went to Evernote online to check there and it's gone?!? I've lost countless hours of work. I've tried syncing it multiple times, and it's just not there? It says that I last updated that note in February, and I was working on it just last week (April). I've lost all my work from that period between Feb and April. Someone help!!
  7. Hi guys, thanks for reading. I wonder if there is a way to back up my Evernote data, in case some tragedy happens, and I lost all my notes. (I would cry). Is there some method to have all your data safe? I have read cases when people lose like months of data because some weird bug. Is there a defense against that? Thanks!
  8. Well since this new push to drive people into Evernote Premium I seem to no longer ever get any kind of conflicting modifications. Instead they just seem to delete things from my note, even though the header may say modified on X date that information is just gone and also deleted from my device so it is no longer available anywhere. The help section is no help at all because it just tells you to look at Note History which is of course a Premium Feature. A feature I would never have needed if Evernote hadn't stopped giving me conflicting modification messages allowing me to clear the conflicts myself. So my impression is that this is another conscious decision by Evernote to punish and mistreat existing free users and try to force them into becoming Premium subscribers. I would have switched to One Note if I knew they would pull stunts like this. Shameful behavior.
  9. One of my very important notes was truncated, and I can’t get it back. https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=176617 doesn’t work because I don’t have premium. Please help!
  10. This is the 3rd time now that I lost notes! I am NOT a premium customer, but I don't see that should make a difference. The scary thing is that God knows WHAT else I have lost. I have hundreds of notes now. Does anyone have this experience or know how to recapture the data off a Mac? I tried going into Time machine, but have no idea where the data is kept. Notes History is not something I can access as a non premium user. HELP
  11. Been taking important notes all day and saved twice. Wiped keyboard to get grease off and all notes disappeared. Can I find them, and if so, how?
  12. Good morning, I restored a computer completely from a time machine backup that is about 3 weeks old. After the restoration, HUNDREDS of my local notes are without content. They include notes that have attachments, notes that are text only, new, old, recently updated, not recently updated. There is no rhyme or reason to which notes are blank and which aren't. They appear in the notes lists along with all of the other notes, and they still have titles (some have thumbnails of a generic pdf, if there was a pdf, but not all that had a pdf do) but when I click to view them or when I open them, they are utterly blank. They don't have the usual "click here to edit"; it's as though that entire section had been cut out. It can't be edited, and it can't be viewed. I've left it run for days, I've tried everything you could imagine (moving the notes, deleting all of the other notes (offline, of course) to see if they would eventually index (and then re-restored the time machine backup again after that), I've searched the library/.../ accounts/... folder that usually contains the attachments have have had no luck. I am terrified that I will not be able to recover these notes. Some of them are extremely important to me. So far I've lost hours trying anything I could imagine and searching forums, but I would be fine losing another dozen hours if it means getting my notes back. I've searched for the missing pdfs using the finder's search in the library in the hopes that would point me to the location of the other missing notes, but nothing. It's like they never existed... except they clearly did, as their titles are still there. I could use any help those of you with experience with this could provide to try to recover these notes. Thank you for any help you can provide,Mary
  13. Versions: iOS 8.4, most current version of Evernote. I'm at a conference, where I have created a single note for capturing my notes on sessions. The note contains text only. I scrolled back to the top of the note, where I start adding text before my previous notes. In the middle of entering and formatting this new text, I realized that most of the text that I entered just a few minutes earlier in this new section had disappeared. I had not highlighted it, so this was not a case of accidental type-over. Whatever the cause, I tried to undo. Evernote undid my most recent typing, up to just a couple of lines worth of text. However, the deleted text did not reappear, no matter how many times I pressed Undo. The problem happened a second time, again without having highlighted any text prior to it disappearing. I'm now at a point where I can't trust Evernote, on which I rely greatly. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
  14. All of my notes are gone. I updated my Iphone. The notebook categories are the same. But the content is ALL GONE! ANY suggestions how to proceed. I would like to speak w a human but have always used the freebie version.
  15. NOTE: Important information can be lost and was lost using the encrypted feature in Evernote. We have two MacBooks and iPhones. Recently, when unencrypting important information in Evernote on both, encrypted notes text was deleted when un-encrypting. We have not been able to recover this data and hesitant to unencrypt until a fix is known. We would greatly appreciate any support in this manner. Thank you.
  16. I'm a longtime Evernote Premium user. I use it on IOS also. I have seen this syncing problem before. On the same PC in the same 5 minutes I have a note that will revert to the prior content - even after it says it successfully syncs! Another way to state it: Make sure logged off on other devices, may sure Windows 7 Evernote sync'd. Make a change to a note. Sync it. All syncing says it's successfully. Wait several minutes - it's back to what it was before my changes! Log in to IOS, sync, it sees the old copy. Log off of Windows - kill all Evernote processes in the background. Restart the whole process. No luck. No combination of syncing will make new changes stick in this note. No apparent corruption in this note - it's just a bunch of text. Currently Evernote 5.8.3 - not the very latest, but I doubt updating will make a difference - I have seen this in the past.
  17. The purpose of this post is to point how dangerous Evernote is with local notebooks. IF you are reading this post because you lost your notes stored in a local notebook, I would say your chances of getting those notes back are slim to none. Of my 7,000 notes in Evernote I keep all but a few hundred in synchronized notebooks. I have a few hundred vitally important notes that are high security which I did not want to store in the cloud, and these notes include over a hundred notes central to a lawsuit in which I am currently involved. I have no idea when this happened. I just did a search for one of these notes last week and realized that not only was it missing but all my local notes were missing. It could have happened last week, last month, 3 months ago, who knows? The reason I don't know when they were trashed is because I have had Evernote support advise me to reinstall Evernote on multiple occasions over the years. And I've also done upgrades over the years. I have been in touch with Evernote support, but they don't hold out much hope that this data will ever be recovered because I don't know when it was lost, and therefore to restore the files from an old backup is extremely difficult. Evernote support contacts me once or maybe twice a week (I am a Premium user), and never anything beyond an Email. In the last Email they said I need to just start doing manually searches in up to four possible folder locations (HOW IS IT THAT EVERNOTE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THESE BACKFILES SHOULD BE??) and I just need to go day-by-day search old backups in each of the four locations until I find them. I've been working on this problem for two weeks now, and it has eaten up more hours than I know. The most irritating response I have received back is "well you should have backed up your local notebooks and put them somewhere safe before you ever did a reinstall." Well clearly. But the question is WHY or HOW would I know to do that? Consider: I have received multiple support Emails from Evernote on other issues that told me to just go ahead and reinstall Evernote and that would fix my problem. I don't remember any big warnings about serious data loss in any of those Emails. I set up these notebooks as local a long time ago, on a particular day and then forgot about it. The local/synchronized issue isn't forefront in any user's mind because it's not something they deal with more than once. Or at least they won't deal with it more than once unless Evernote trashes all their data. So expecting a user to always remain cognizant of something they did in a couple seconds years ago is unrealistic. Why, during the installation process, doesn't Evernote perform a check for local notebooks and then abandon the installation when it finds those notebooks, and then ask the user to either delete or backup before proceeding? One answer to the question directly above is that Evernote doesn't even know where those notebooks are located. As I said earlier, Evernote support has suggested three possible locations where those notebooks might be located. And that location isn't determined by the user, but by Evernote itself. The really unbearable thing in all this is that Evernote could certainly perform a check for local notebooks during the installation process, but they don't. I've been researching this issue in the Evernote forums and elsewhere and I am seeing a lot of people who have lost their most valuable information this way. And I am reading many posts on this issue that go back years. I actually had to give a presentation to Chicago Tribune reporters on using Evernote in their work, and a big question that came up was security. I discussed local notebooks and that answer satisfied many of them who have since started using Evernote (I was giving this presentation because am I developer for an Evernote product that I want them to buy). Now I have to go back to this whole group and share the terror of this story. There goes the Chicago Tribune account. But that is nothing compared to the data I lost.

  19. I just spent all day on a note and am freaking out because it is now gone and it is due tomorrow and I had so much information in there. I created the document at 10am, worked on it all day. In the morning I was at a place with no wifi and was working on the note. I got home and continued working for several hours, where I have wifi (but I didn't press anything or try and sync anything). I eventually switched to my email. Then when I went back to evernote I went to a separate note, typed two lines, and when I returned to my other note I'd been working on all day it was COMPLETELY BLANK. It said it had been created at 10 and last updated at 10. It had NO details on any other updates and not a single word, sentence, anything, just completely blank. Is there a number I could call? Has anyone had this happen before? I'm not a Premium subscriber. I'm thinking about paying so I can do the "view history" thing, but I'm worried that won't help since how can a note that was supposedly created at 10am and updated at 10am that's blank have a "history"? HELP! Anyone! I'm bumming and would be so grateful for any assistance.
  20. The old icon popped up saying an update was available and would I like to restart now or later. With 30 minutes to my next meeting I said "what the heck" and went for it. When the updated version came up, all my notes were missing... hundreds of them. Fortunately I still see them online. Unfortunately much of my work is offline. I've tried to sync several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my mac and still no luck. Sent an email to support a few days ago and no word back. Any one else encounter this? Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated: ) Thanks!
  21. I have a very strange problem. Its not only on my ipad but also on my fellow students ipad with evernote. When i create a new notebook i get into the notebook. But if i dont create a new note the notebook disappears from the list of notebooks while still taking up the name. If i do however create a note while the notebook is active it stays in the list. Why is my notebooks disappearing ? I´ve included a few photos of the problem Here you can see that the notebook link shows as containing 5 books http://imgur.com/FAWRvFE Here you see the content of the notebook page as only containing 3 books (last one being the trashcan) http://imgur.com/Fk8FIWR Anyone able to help me clarify this problem ?
  22. Not sure if I'm posting this note in the right place, so let me know if I should move it. I had a note that I edited frequently. Somehow, three copies of it with slightly different info appeared in my notebook. A few days ago, I decided to reconcile them and consolidate all current info into one note. I deleted the two extra versions. Now I can't see any of the three notes. (I must have emptied the trash, although I don't remember doing so, because nothing is there either.) First of all - what caused the duplicates... and secondly, anyway to recover the missing copy? It seemed to be there when I finished my editing and closed Evernote the other day. I use Evernote on a Windows laptop at work, a Mac at home, and a couple iOS devices. The edits were made on my work computer. If that makes a difference... Thanks!
  23. I have downloaded the new version Evernote just 4 minutes ago, and all my notes are missing. what should I do now , and why did it even happen ? Could it be because I am a user not premium account ? Please can anybody answer the notes were from lectures - I am not even able to recreate them again.
  24. I would be very grateful if anyone has any advice. I'm not a premium user so I can't seem to report this to support. I created a note on my iPhone, the start of a story. Then, on my Windows laptop, I developed the story, adding a large amount of text to the same note. As I was writing, the note suddenly disappeared, to be replaced with multiple, earlier versions, and reports of conflicts. The earlier versions were all from about 10/15/20 minutes ago, so it was from the same writing session on my laptop - just different stages. But the last chunk was completely missing. I'm quite upset as this was an important part of the story and it will be difficult for me to recreate. My phone and another computer have Evernote running, but it's not as if I changed this document on either of those - the Windows client appeared to be reporting conflicts with itself. Any advice on (1) whether I can get the missing text back, or (2) how to prevent this happening again would be very welcome. If I can't sort it out I may have to stop using Evernote, as data disappearing like this is not something I'm willing to contend with. Thanks. Edited to add: I found the original text in the "Conflicting Changes" notebook. Phew! I'm still interested to know why this happened in the first place, and how I can avoid it.
  25. Using evernote for the first time. I'm very disappointed with losing my notes. Notes are vanishing, again and again. I am using evernote web version in Windows 8.1 OS.
