  1. Hello, I am a co-founder of Backupery, we are making local backup software. I am glad to present you Backupery for Evernote application. It is a lightweight application that makes automatic backup of Evernote notes to local hard drive. Here are some highlights: The application is very small (~700KB) and easy to use. Backup is started by scheduler, so a user doesn't need to run it manually. We don't send any bit of your data beyond your computer, so all your data belongs to you only, forever. The software works without internet connection (it is essential if you are travelling, for example). Since the app utilizes Evernote-standart export technology (ENEX), no third-party tools are required for restoring (Evernote client is enough). Since we are using ENEX-export, the app backups local (unsynchronized) notebooks and unsynchronized notes. You could read more and download the application here: It is for Windows only for now, but we are working on Mac version also. Any questions, suggestions or ideas are highly appreciated, please let me know here, or use Best, John
  2. I am an Evernote Plus member and have been since college. Recently downloaded the Evernote Desktop app for Mac on a work machine and was aghast to find it downloading all of my personal notebooks, and notebooks from previous jobs, upon first sign-in. This is really a deal-breaker for me since I do not wish to store all of my personal notes on my work computer. I think the following solutions would work: Encrypt certain notebooks with separate passwords. Ability to select certain notebooks for local syncing. Keep the others on Evernote's servers. Separate "profiles" or "accounts" all linked to my original Evernote account, with different notebooks. I could just sign in with my work email address, for example. Thanks!
  3. I'd like to paste hyperlinks into other software so I could quickly follow them in order to get to a specific Evernote note. The notes are stored locally, not shared. The whole thing would be a closed system on my computer only. If I right-click a note and select "Copy Note Link", paste the link elsewhere, then click it, Evernote opens the last Notebook that was there when it was last open. So it's just the list of notes in that notebook, with the first one in the list selected for preview. Pretty much just looks the same as launching How do I really link to the specific note? If I use Spotlight to find the note and I double-click it in Finder, then Evernote launches, and on top of it comes that note in a separate window, spread to fill the entire screen. Linking to that file via Finder as a folder structure is a method, but it takes maneuvering and it'd be better if it didn't open multiple windows to Evernote, or expand that document, as it's hard to read when the text spreads all across the width of the screen.
  4. I am running Evernote on Windows 7 Professional, Evernote version Basic package. I am trying to copy notes from a synced notebook to a local notebook. When I copy a note that is 30 MB to the local notebook, I receive an "upload limit reached" error. If I look at my account information on the web version of Evernote, it says I have 60 MB remaining. I have verified that my local notebook is indeed a local notebook. Why am I receiving this message about my upload limit reached, since I am copying the note to a local notebook?
  5. Hello All, My company blocks access to Evernote servers. However I really what to use Evernote to manage my professional notes. I would like to know if I can setup Evernote to run with a local database only. Ideally this database will be on my company network. ( One note can do it, but I dont want to migrate...for now) I want to keep it simple and I don't no need mobile synchronization. Is there any way? Thanks Philippe
  6. Hello Evernote Community! I am about to leave for a trip that will take around 10 years, maybe a little more. I will be completely away from both civilization, and an internet connection. I very much want to have an easy way to collect my research, thoughts, writings, and everyday notes in one place during my trip. I have seen colleague's using Evernote, and entered information into their Evernote notebooks for them during experiments and meetings, and I very much enjoyed the UI and the different features. Here now we get to my problem: Since I will be away from civilization, and the internet, for 10 years, I am unsure how to go about using Evernote. I have noticed some limitations, when already attempting to utilize the Evernote software while offline. First, I could not find a way to get it to work while offline and with no way to verify my online account. This is going to be a problem. Since I had no account configuration file yet, and had no internet access, I could not use the software. This is a problem, because during my 10 years away from civilization and the internet, I will almost guaranteed have to re-install windows at least a dozen times, and if I end up losing the configuration files with my account information, I need to be sure that I can still use the software after a fresh install (from USB drive). Next, I can only find a way to pay for a single year of premium. So, how can I pay for 10 years of the premium subscription now? Also, when the single year ends, how do I convince the software, without an internet connection, that I have paid for 10 years? Will I be able to get 10 product codes? Or is there some other way to re-enable the software before then? Finally, is it possible to sync using bluetooth between an android based device and a windows 10 surface based device while completely offline? It will be nice to be able to leave the surface in one place, and use an android watch or android glasses to check, add, or update information in my notes. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions! If this will not work, I will hate to have to spend the next few days trying out other software. I leave for my trip on Friday, and will not be able to respond after Thursday mid-day.
  7. Hi there - great product, and appreciate the steady stream of improvements. Have discovered a bug (actually first stumbled across it weeks ago, forgot about it, and replicated it today) 1. Create note in a normal (synced) workbook (in my case, by taking a photo of a document in the iOS client, putting it into Uncategorized) 2. Edit the note in the Windows client, moving it to a local (nonsynced) notebook. 3. Note appears in the local notebook (good), but a "ghost" duplicate remains in the old synced workbook (not good). This ghost can be seen in All notes in Windows and has its notebook set to the original one, but not if you click on the original synced workbook in the client where you did the move. However, ot also appears when accessing Evernote in the Web and back on iOS, even after replication has taken place. 4. The ghost note has to be killed manually, by deleting it and then expunging from trash. This is annoying since (like other people I suspect) I use local notebooks for scanned copies of confidential docs I don't want to leave floating around in the cloud. Of course, if I were truly paranoid I wouldn't enter them in a way where they ever get put in the cloud (e.g. scanning in Evernote on iOS!) but nevertheless it's undesirable that copies persist after user believes they have moved them out of the cloud into a local workbook. Thanks, Martin
  8. Hi! Just had to reinstall Windows 7. Not the friendly "you get to keep your installed programs installed" reinstall,, nor even the "you get to keep your drivers installed" reinstall. No, we are talking a "I don't think Windows has ever been on this system" fresh install. And here is the problem--a major chunk of my Evernote file database was in a file that was NOT backed up with the Evernote cloud services. I had copied it over and it was too big for the free monthly limit, so I placed it in an un-archived (by Evernote) folder, and then a few days later paid for the basic pay package. Naturally, I never got around to moving the stored information over to a cloud-archived directory... End result, about half of my database is stored in the Evernote cloud, and about half is sitting on my harddrive. I did not lose ANY of my data files, so my un-clouded directory is still on my harddrive--somewhere. Where would I find it, and how would I pull it back into Evernote after I reinstall Evernote? (Right now the system is siting next to me looking for every Windows 7 update ever created, which takes some time.... I figured I would do that first.) As always, TIA!
  9. Hello there, Context : I know how to make local notebooks (requires evernote + aka 20€/$ a year) and that the notes in those notebooks are local too. Question 1 : how does one make a notebook stash ? Couldn't find a legit way, I have some but can't figure out how to make more. Question 2 : is a notebook stash local because the notebooks it contains are local ? If no is there a way to have a local notebook stash ? Sorry if the answer is already there... couldn't find it. Thanks !
  10. I'm using Evernote 6.1.1 with OS X 10.11.1. I recently did an erase and install on my Macbook, and installed a fresh copy of Evernote, did a sync with the cloud, and have almost all of my data. Except I have one or two local only notebooks I forgot about. I have a Time Machine backup, and was able to find Evernote in the /User/Library/Containers folder. I tried putting that in the /User/Library/Containers folder on the new system, but didn't see the local folders. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  11. Hi there fellow Evernote users It seems my Mac has automatically upgraded to the latest version of Evernote. In doing so it deleted all notebooks from my account (basic) Now: I have some files on the web-based account (I know these are preserved as I can access them on my iPhone) But the local (ie.non-sync'd) files have disappeared, I fear deleted. I have not synced evernote on my mac in case this will interrupt any potential recovery. I have had a look for the local notes in: user/library/application support/evernote - to no avail. Was unable to find "~/Library/Containers/com.evernote.Evernote/Data/Library/ApplicationSupport/Evernote/account/<my username>, but I think I downloaded mine directly anyhow. Any magic suggestions out there or is this a lost cause? Phin
  12. I desperately need some help. I have Evernote on OSX Yosemite via the App Store. A few days ago, I went to update the Evernote, and it did not take (probably a network issue), and I ended up with a Evernote application that was damaged. So, I redownloaded Evernote. Opened it up, nothing was there. Logged in with my account, and synced. My online notes appeared. But my 1 local notebook is missing. I really need the notebook back. Looking in ~/Library/Application Support/com.evernote.Evernote/accounts/[random #]/content/ .... and another folder, I can see the PDFs, etc from my local notebook. So, I know I have my content still. (BTW It looks to me like Evernote moved all my old stuff into a different folder. Maybe. The directory listing of ~/Library/Application Support/com.evernote.Evernote and ~/Library/Application Support/com.evernote.Evernote/accounts/[random#] are slightly similar. Both have an announcements directory, atlas directory, and checkpoint file. Does anyone know if I can move the files from ~/Library/Application Support/com.evernote.Evernote/accounts/[random#] to ~/Library/Application Support/com.evernote.Evernote to get back my local notebook? If not, any ideas how I can get my local notebook back? Thanks, Colin

  15. Hello everyone, I'm a new Evernote user and finding it really useful. I just want to check whether my initial plan for using Evernote is actually going to work (apologies if my question seems obvious or silly). I currently access Evernote on my desktop computer at home and I'm planning on also using it on a laptop that I travel with (that has relatively small local storage space). I'm thinking that in order to perserve the very little local storage I have on my laptop, I'll just use Evernote's web client rather than installing the software and using it that way. Would this allow me to still access what's in my Notebooks now, edit them, add additional notes, et cetera? Is this the best way to approach this? Thanks for your time, Alex.
  16. Hi, I'm looking into EN to see if it fits our company's needs, so I did some searches but I couldn't find a definitive answer on whether it is possible to have Evernote save and sync data locally / in a Cloud folder? If so, does it still sync between EN OS X, EN iOS etc versions? For example: Could I use Evernote on my Mac, making it safe my data without uploading it to the Evernote servers? Even better: To Dropbox or iCloud or whatever cloud service I like? For example 1Password let's me choose where I place my sync folder. Of course, it still syncs with the iOS app / other platform versions. I'd want to do this because I like to decide for myself where our company's data is stored.
  17. I'm sure that in the past when I've clicked the New Notebook button, the naming dialogue also gave checkbox options for the Notebook to either be synced or stored locally. It seems that some days ago, that just went missing, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to create a local notebook anymore. Has that functionality been stripped?
  19. Hello! In order to save space on our MacBooks I would love to have an option in the OS X App to stop storing everything locally, instead access notes from the web. I think as we are moving our stuff to the cloud, we may rely less and less on local storage in the future and instead have gigabytes of data always available in the cloud. I myself only use Evernote in this way and it is the reason why I have to put up with the web interface, which although nice, logs me out each week and an app interface (just like on my iPhone & iPad) would be the preferred option. Your thoughts? Roman
  20. Good evening - I'm brand new to Evernote. Created Local notebook on my desktop and successfully forwarded an email from my phone to the Local notebook yesterday. However, anything I forward today destined for the Local notebook is going into my inbox ! What am I doing incorrectly ? My subject line looks like this "Subject @private". Thanks for your assistance.
  21. I have been very happily using evernote premium for about a year but reached the dreaded 250 notebook max. As i am a business of 1 i don't need the Business bells and whistles as a way to continue to create more notebooks. Tags etc simply don't work for my purpose/mind. So what i want to do that would work very well for my needs if it is possible to do is this: Use Evernote only on my computer, saving through my Time Machine own system, not on Evernotes system, and then i wouldn't have a notebook limit. I can see how now i can create new notebooks as Local although i'm not sure i could do this if i weren't on my premium account? My question is this: Is there a way to save my current evernote notebooks/notes into a desktop system that is userfriendly and i can continue to use only locally? (even a way that is not userfriendly would also be helpful altho if it is not userfriendly i would probably switch over to something like onenote.) THANKS
  22. Hi All, I'm new to evernote and I want to know clearly about how it syncs/stores notes locally. I have read the help documentation and forums but have found only ambiguous or confusing explanations. I understand that if you have the premium version you can select notes to store locally, no matter where they were originally created/edited, but my question is about the free version and notes that are created / viewed on my Andriod device. I am worried that if I create a note, then sync, then go offline, it won't be available anymore. So, can somebody please simply answer: If I create a note on my andriod device, will it ALWAYS be available offline? Yes/No
  23. I somehow lost all my local notebooks. I thought I'd exported everything before reinstalling Windows, but apparently I didn't. The hopefully good news is that I do have all my old .exb files, and I think the exb should have all those notebooks and attached PDFs inside it? (I've got the whole evernote folder with Announcement / AutoUpdate/Databases/Dict/LocalStorage (this one is empty by the way) and Logs). Is there any way to import the .exb into my current synced notebook without overwriting anything, so I can drag and drop the old local notes into a synced notebook? Thanks!
  24. Evernote’s value to me as a tool is in how it supports my writing process. I use Mac OS X. As a new premium user, I am finding that I cannot add my written thoughts to a web page “selection” concurrently with saving the selection to Evernote. I find Evernote’s value lies not just in web capture, but in coupling that web capture with what I’m thinking. I want to simultaneously save the discovered web information AND my summary reflections about its significance to me. I want Evernote to keep up with the speed of my thinking. These two elements – discovery and the discovery’s meaning or significance – are really two aspects of a single thought process of determining a. the usefulness of information and b. intuiting where it fits in a scaffold, whose shape and scope I adduce gradually. Thus, the usefulness of the information I discover, which I use Evernote to retain, is directly proportional to being also immediately able to capture instantly the ideas that spontaneously, rapidly emerge. Being unable to annotate an html capture introduces a lag. I am forced by Evernote's design to add thoughts later (ie., after I sync the capture with Evernote's server, or the capture on the server with my local copy). With even such a slight lag, my thought process is interrupted, associations are lost, or they become more difficult to reconstruct, their collation with related ideas becomes more laborious. I don’t want to Command-Tab to Evernote to further emend/amend the information just captured and only after a tab refresh. I’d appreciate hearing others’ opinions and objectives. I only know my own objectives, habits. It is unclear to me what the full range of uses is for Evernote. Please guide me if I have overlooked some feature or capability. Does anyone do anything with scripting that might address this? I appreciate any and all response, thanks.
  25. I am planning to do a clean installation of mavericks on my macbook and i want some advice on how best to restore my evernote database in the new installation. I realise the sync notes will restore automatically but i have as many notes that are in a local folders ie never synced. I need the database to come back exactly as it is - all tags etc etc etc. To lose all that would be ....... Bad. Any advice would be appreciated and any other things i should been in mind. Thanks.
