  1. Long story short I'm having a bit of a clear-out in my rather full database (47k notes) and moving away from having most of my note-eggs in one basket. I've done several searches to bulk-move notes into new locations, and it's just occurred to me that I have some notes in local notebooks - around 500 or so - that if I'm not very careful, might get moved along with the rest. They would go from an offline, this-device-only notebook to a fully synced, available to me from anywhere notebook - and that being in the Cloud, it's a little bit more likely to be leaked. Now my World Domination plans are still strictly on paper (and in crayon) so there's limited risk, but I thought I'd try moving a note that I have selected from a local notebook into a synced notebook to check what alerts come up. And the answer is - none. So my proposal here is that notes saved in Local Notebooks need an additional "Are you sure?" alert before being moved out. Users do put notes in local notebooks temporarily when they run out of upload allowance, and then move to synced notebooks when the allowance reboots. In those circumstances the nanny notice would seriously annoy me when moving in bulk, so we also need the 'don't show this notice again' tickbox, and an entry in Options/ Preferences to allow that to be toggled back as necessary. I think this is a pretty important issue since my notes were offline for a specific reason and I do not want them in the cloud showing account numbers and sort codes. I'll raise it with Evernote and post my ticket number here, but meantime please be aware that notes in Local Notebooks look just like any other note - there's no highlight, no alert or any other sign they're unusual. If you have local notes - take care they stay that way. And please vote this issue - top left of the page! Ticket #2893633
  2. Hi, Ref: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209005107-What-is-a-local-notebook- Need to create new local-only notebooks that will not sync. Following instructions in the above link, The option to create a local notebook was missing, only choices are private and shared., So, i created a private notebook, in the hopes that it would not sync. However, it did sync anyway. Is there a trick to creating a no-sync local notebook? Thanks much.
  3. I'd like to paste hyperlinks into other software so I could quickly follow them in order to get to a specific Evernote note. The notes are stored locally, not shared. The whole thing would be a closed system on my computer only. If I right-click a note and select "Copy Note Link", paste the link elsewhere, then click it, Evernote opens the last Notebook that was there when it was last open. So it's just the list of notes in that notebook, with the first one in the list selected for preview. Pretty much just looks the same as launching Evernote.app. How do I really link to the specific note? If I use Spotlight to find the note and I double-click it in Finder, then Evernote launches, and on top of it comes that note in a separate window, spread to fill the entire screen. Linking to that file via Finder as a folder structure is a method, but it takes maneuvering and it'd be better if it didn't open multiple windows to Evernote, or expand that document, as it's hard to read when the text spreads all across the width of the screen.
  4. Hello, I am a co-founder of Backupery, we are making local backup software. I am glad to present you Backupery for Evernote application. It is a lightweight application that makes automatic backup of Evernote notes to local hard drive. Here are some highlights: The application is very small (~700KB) and easy to use. Backup is started by scheduler, so a user doesn't need to run it manually. We don't send any bit of your data beyond your computer, so all your data belongs to you only, forever. The software works without internet connection (it is essential if you are travelling, for example). Since the app utilizes Evernote-standart export technology (ENEX), no third-party tools are required for restoring (Evernote client is enough). Since we are using ENEX-export, the app backups local (unsynchronized) notebooks and unsynchronized notes. You could read more and download the application here: http://www.backupery.com/products/backupery-for-evernote/ It is for Windows only for now, but we are working on Mac version also. Any questions, suggestions or ideas are highly appreciated, please let me know here, or use contact@backupery.com. Best, John
  5. first time I see a notebook greyed out in Evernote for Windows (8.1). Right-clicking, the dialog tells me it's a local notebook... How'd that happen that it doesn't sync with my other devices (iphone and ipad), and how do I fix it? Many thanks
  6. I'm using Evernote 6.1.1 with OS X 10.11.1. I recently did an erase and install on my Macbook, and installed a fresh copy of Evernote, did a sync with the cloud, and have almost all of my data. Except I have one or two local only notebooks I forgot about. I have a Time Machine backup, and was able to find Evernote in the /User/Library/Containers folder. I tried putting that in the /User/Library/Containers folder on the new system, but didn't see the local folders. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  7. So how do you do this I want a physical hard copy of all my evernote notes and attachments in an evernote readable format backed up onto my local hard drive exporting out notes just exports XML which is simply going to be text based notes, tags, among other things - but not attachments or how can i back my attachments up easily
  8. Hi there fellow Evernote users It seems my Mac has automatically upgraded to the latest version of Evernote. In doing so it deleted all notebooks from my account (basic) Now: I have some files on the web-based account (I know these are preserved as I can access them on my iPhone) But the local (ie.non-sync'd) files have disappeared, I fear deleted. I have not synced evernote on my mac in case this will interrupt any potential recovery. I have had a look for the local notes in: user/library/application support/evernote - to no avail. Was unable to find "~/Library/Containers/com.evernote.Evernote/Data/Library/ApplicationSupport/Evernote/account/<my username>, but I think I downloaded mine directly anyhow. Any magic suggestions out there or is this a lost cause? Phin
  9. Hi All, I'm new to evernote and I want to know clearly about how it syncs/stores notes locally. I have read the help documentation and forums but have found only ambiguous or confusing explanations. I understand that if you have the premium version you can select notes to store locally, no matter where they were originally created/edited, but my question is about the free version and notes that are created / viewed on my Andriod device. I am worried that if I create a note, then sync, then go offline, it won't be available anymore. So, can somebody please simply answer: If I create a note on my andriod device, will it ALWAYS be available offline? Yes/No
  10. Hi All! I've been using EN for over a year and LOVE it! But, I would still consider myself a newbie and not using it to its full potential. I'm big into organizing my files....LOTS of folders and subfolders on my hard drive, so I can easily find anything I need. I also have a pretty good organizational system on EN. But here's my issue: Right now, I scan a document, say my son's medical lab results. I store that .pdf in a folder on my computer's hard drive. Then I attach it to a note in EN so that it is always with me. And, in my quest to now go paperless, I will be scanning additional important documents (like bills) and less important documents (like receipts). The quesion is do I continue to save to my computer and then also put into EN? Do I only have them in EN? I'm afraid to only have them in EN because it may not have the longevity of my local storage....then again, it may have more. And, can I pull them out of EN and save locally for the long haul, saving space in EN (e.g. 2014 receipts would get archived when I close out the 2014 year). I feel like I'm in a dizzy nightmare of where/how to organize all this stuff and I'm double/triple saving files which may or may not be necessary. I've searched the forum and have found a few notes on the same, but am looking for additional guidance from the EN geniuses out there! Thanks so much!
