  1. Apparently, version 6.12.3 for Mac has removed the ability to create local notebooks. If anyone knows a work-around for notebooks that I *don't* want sync'd, I'd appreciate the help! That's a MAJOR security issue in Evernote now, and may end my ability to use it for some sensitive content.
  2. Hi, One of my notebooks disappeared! It is a local notebook, and probably my only local notebook. (I didn't learn the meaning of a notebook being "local" after creating it and finding it doesn't sync with my other devices.) I am not sure when this happened, because I used that to take notes a year ago and stopped updating it for about as long. My guess is it is gone with some Evernote version updates. Is there a way to retrieve my notebook? Thanks,
  3. Hi, My computer crashed recently and I am trying to recover my local evernote notebooks. I have access to my old hard drive but I can't seem to find the evernote local notebook files. Could anyone please indicate what would be the default path and extension for local notebooks in Windows? Thanks.
  4. I'm sure that in the past when I've clicked the New Notebook button, the naming dialogue also gave checkbox options for the Notebook to either be synced or stored locally. It seems that some days ago, that just went missing, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to create a local notebook anymore. Has that functionality been stripped?
  5. I am trying to get scanned documents in searchable PDF format from Scansnap directly into an Evernote local inbox notebook. This needs to be local as the documents are highly confidential and I cannot run the risk of someone hacking into them on the cloud, even if I only leave them in a sync'd notebook for a few hours, before I move them into their local noteook destination. I cannot seem to discover the correct pathway to get documents directly into a local notebook. Every time I send the documents to Evernote, they end up in a sync'd default notebook since I cannot make a local notebook a default notebook. Can anyone please help me? I am a free user but I would be quite happy to upgrade to premium if this would help.
  6. Need Help. I just realised that one of my Local Notebook with many Notes has gotten deleted. Somehow I can't figure how. I haven't deleted it either. I backup my Data onto Time machine frequently. Could someone help me on how to restore the Evernote to an old back up. I tried the restore option and copied the data from back up and tried to open it. It still opens my latest synced data only. Can someone help me to how to search for the data files in the Backup folders.
  7. I'd like to share an experience I just had today in case someone else has a similar issue. Using the latest Windows beta (5.6.1.4242) Today I did something I'd never done before. I decided to create a local notebook to store some confidential information notes that I didn't want on the cloud. All went well until later on after syncing when I checked Evernote web and noticed it then had the new local notebook although it only contained two notes instead of the 50 or so in my PC local notebook. My understanding of a local notebook is it's not supposed to be on the cloud at all but there it was and it had two files in it. So still on Evernote web I changed the local notebook name (the notebook that wasn't supposed to be on the cloud) and after doing that I was unable to sync my PC to the cloud no matter what I tried. My iPad could sync to the cloud but not my PC. Long story short I solved the problem by creating a second new local notebook on my PC app and moving all of the notes from the first local notebook to the brand new local notebook. Finally, still using my PC app, I deleted the original local notebook, which appeared to be empty by then, but I got an unexpected warning message saying it still contained one note. I deleted the original local notebook (and the invisible note in it) anyway and after that I was able to sync again normally. Also, the cloud now no longer has any local notebooks.
  8. I started using Evernote Premium at my company about 6 months ago. At the time there was some concern from management about data security, however they allowed me to continue using it. I started out with all my notes being stored on Evernote's servers, however in order to completely calm Managment's fears I would like to transfer all the notes to local notebooks. Is there an easy way to do this?
  9. I recently had cause to reboot a Windows 8 laptop using the Change Settings option "Refresh your PC without affecting your files". Long story short, there was an OS issue which made it unusable without a serious house clean, and those nice folks at Dell suggested a Refresh would be a good idea. According to the Win 8 settings "If your PC isn't running well, you can refresh it without losing your photos, music, videos and other personal files" (my italics) So I went ahead and did that - and lost Evernote and my database folder. As far as I can tell all my other data files are still there (I had rather a lot - it'll take weeks to notice if there are more problems) but all the apps that I had installed, from Chrome to XnView are gone. OK - I can live with that. It's a bear having to reinstall, reauthenticate and glue everything back together, but as long as I have my data... and I just had to rebuild everything anyway on a(nother) laptop I bought as an emergency backup device. I kept a list, with links (guess where). Sadly the same can't be said for my database - even with hidden folders on show, there's no AppData folder for /Evernote/Evernote to be inside - I guess because I have no apps either. While I can re-download the synced database, I had some stuff in a local notebook too which was a bit critical... Well I also had a backup, so no long-term hassles; but it still puts a(nother) crimp in your day. Still the moral of this story is: if you refresh your Win 8 setup for any reason, you really REALLY need a backup of your database. Major HT to the Evernote Devs however - when I had less than my current database-full of notes and last tried the download-from-scratch route, it took about a week to get all my notes back. I've now done two rebuilds in a week and I reckon it takes about 8-10 hours (17,000 notes). That's a vast improvement on previous performance, and (almost) takes all the sting out of reinstalling! Thanks guys!
  10. Hi, I'm starting a research project and have managed to secure several sources as PDFs of typescript. I uploaded them to Evernote and the servers did their magic and my PDFs were searchable- I'm a premium subscriber, btw. I then proceeded to highlight them. Fine to a point- everything started to grind, regardless of whether I was on my iPad or rMBP. Then I started getting messages about reaching my note limit, despite the fact that my pdf was still well under 100mb. What's with that?! I did a quick search and read that a pdf that has been made searchable remains searchable even when the note is moved to a local notebook, AND this would remove the 100mb nag screen that's been driving me up the wall. Only it didn't work. I'm not getting hits for terms I know are in that pdf and which were found in that pdf previously. What am I doing wrong? Have I misunderstood? Also, how do you navigate between search term matches in the note? I have poor eyesight, I don't want to be squinting for a little box. Is there a way to switch between? I have to say I'm disappointed. I've used evernote casually for some time and with great success, but now that I want to use it professionally it really seems to be creaking. Granted, part of it may be Mavericks- I was getting so frustrated with EN I tried my old copy of Devonthink Pro (re downloaded, re installed) and it was even worse!
  11. Hi, I'm Jarreth, from Italy. New to the forum but not to Evernote, which I love! As the topic title says, i can't find anymore my local notebook. I didn't delete it on purpose, but i fear this could be caused by some maintenance software that I've run in the past days that solves missing links, registry keys or stuff like this. Could this be the case? Any idea on how can I make it come back? Thanks in advance for your support!
  12. Hello, First post, hope this is in the right place. Searched around and couldn't find a resolution on the forum. I have been using Premium for awhile now (and love it). I use the Evernote Clipper (is it called helper?) in the menubar in mac OS X to screen-capture images in some of my pdf textbooks for use in working documents, specifically MS word. What I do is take notes in word, screen-capture an image in Evernote, and copy image into the document. When I'm finished with the document, I flatten it into a pdf and upload it into Evernote to be categorized and searchable, etc. So the original image is not important, only the end product which includes the image. The issue I'm having is that every time I clip, the image gets sent to my inbox. I want to send all of the images I clip to a local notebook, so that I can save storage space. I know you can change the default notebook to upload to... but I only want images specifically captured with the toolbar clipper to go to a local notebook. I like everything else to go straight to the inbox. I also use the web clipper for a variety of things, but I want its default notebook to remain as it is. I guess my question is two-fold: first, is there a way to set the toolbar clipper to send notes to a local notebook, while keeping the default notebook as is? Second, if that is not possible, can I quickly move added images into a local notebook after clipping them without eating away my allotted storage? For example, could I clip an image to the inbox, but then quickly move it to a local notebook before the note syncs and counts against me? I could probably just use screen capture on the mac, but that defeats the purpose of Evernote, right? Hope that is understandable... Thanks so much if anyone has tips or input!
  13. I recently created a new evernote user account to implement GTD and also installed evernote 5 windows desktop client I imported all my old notes into this new account. After the import, evernote advised me to keep all the imported notes in a local notebook because it was more that 60mb and a synchronized notebook would have exhausted my 60mb upload limit. I followed the advice. Today, I synced evernote and got notified that my 60mb limit is about to get over, only 2% remaining! I immediately checked the local notebook and it had now become a synced notebook. This is impossible since a local notebook can never be converted into a synced one as per the information on your website. Now my upload limit is almost full and the entire cycle is still gonna take 25 more days to complete Please solve this issue immediately and give me back my 60mb upload of this cycle. Please. I've attached the log file in which there is a log which says - Creating server notebook "Imported Notes" "Imported notes" was my local notebook where i had imported all my notes. Thanks a ton, eagerly waiting for this to be resolved... AppLog_2013-09-09.txt
  14. Goooooooood Morning All! Hope all is well! And those that are state side... getting ready for a nice holiday (too bad its mid week). I have a question regarding syncing local notebooks. From searching it appears it is not possible to sync local notebooks offline. So I just wanted to confirm there hasn't been an update. Basically I just want a private book to sync with my phone without going to the web or using web. While I can use EN I've moved a PC in an environment that cannot access the web. However, I use it just like any other pc other then it doesn't sync. It would be nice to have the notes on my phone though.
