  1. Hello Evernote developers, Can you add multi-level aka nested lists? If there's one formatting feature that must be added ASAP, it's this one. Hope to hear from Evernote as to whether this feature is going to be added. Best regards, Kitezh47
  2. A new product thread about Tangle sparked some discussion about whether or not information in Evernote was siloed away, and how it might be possible to link notes back out into the real world so information and connections are not forgotten. Here's a link to the original discussion and the posts that started this thread - I suggest we continue that discussion here here to avoid hijacking that thread totally!
  3. A lot of user time is wasted on not having solutions, and going around in circles, so rather than try to place some answers on my own archived note (not allowed), or into an eight page discussion note, here are what is being asked for in sorting within a note, along with some time consuming workaround solutions in the meantime. Evernote is supposed to help you organize your notes, but it is not helping you to organize the content within a note, which is critical to organization. You have tables, unordered lists, ordered lists, check lists, even word lists separated by commas or spaces, and you should be able to organize them alphabetically without having to do it without help from the application. One word of warning though, one person wanted to be able to sort automatically, and that would be a bad idea, as you won't be able to see what you are doing or continue entering without interruption, or seeing what you've added or are working on. I provided a clear example of a list that contained hyperlinks. This is something that should be available and done within Evernote, forcing users to do this manually or externally is a big waste of users time. Feature Request - Sorting lists (bulleted, ordered, checkbox) by text [dmcritchie, 2011-11-29] However since Evernote will not do this for us, here are some ways of handling this yourself. Some are very convoluted and nothing really is going to handle data with links well unless done within the application. ★ Using MS Word seems like it would handle rows with included hyperlinks [oef 2014-10-08] Try Trello - more advanced list handling than EN, including internal alphabetical list sorting. [totochto 2014-10-19], and Ticktick [gazumped 2015-01-13] want to be able to sort a todo list with check boxes, as unchecked and check, and/or alphabetically [poppy ... 2015-01-13] Example in Excel of a table with multiple columns w/o hyperlinks [shanezam203 2015-03-10] use the Excel document with Evernote [Frank.dg 2015-06-13] Some online forms that allow you to paste text then sort using any browser ★ Alphabetize Text Words (online), ★ Alphabetize a text or word list Some Firefox extensions that allow you to sort tabs and sort HTML tables before pasting into Evernote, and to collect links for selected tabs Sort Tabs :: Add-ons for Firefox, TableTools2 - Copy/Sort/Chart/Filter Table&More! :: Add-ons for Firefox, Multiple Tab Handler :: Add-ons for Firefox Having the HTML code generated from Multiple Tab Handler, you can generate the HTML and then using Real-time HTML Editor generate the rich text format to paste directly into Evernote. A bookmarklet that would work in any browser (example you can test) Keep in mind that you can view and update Evernote in a browser. Understanding what can be done elsewhere is most likely to lead to a clear definition of what is needed. When I actually did the example in the request for enhancement I used a bookmarklet [href:] to carry the link after the wording, and then had to add insert the link back in afterwards (Ctrl+K in Windows). Basically each line orrow needs a text key and a rich text component to be placed after sorting. Think of how much time would be wasted trying to do this for 200 items, or multiple lists. And I think this is something that would be acceptable just from desktop or laptop but not from small devices without keyboards, just like keyboard shortcuts, context menus, and horizontal lines that are not available on small devices, but can be seen and modified from any device. My other enhancement request, may not look related, but I can generate data that I need in HTML format using "Multiple Tab Handler" (Firefox extension) from Browser Meta tags for a selection of tabs, and if I could paste it directly into Evernote I could create some lists quickly in one step. And in the case of tabs I can even sort them beforehand with another Firefox extension, but it would be nice to not have to rely on workarouds. Feature Request - Paste from HTML and/or Wiki source, actually got positive feedback from gbarry, but nothing appears to have happened. Feel free to add additional workarounds or other things, if any, within a note that need sorting. David McRitchie
  4. I'm having problems with Evernote and numbered lists: My problem with lists is shown in the following snipit created on my Microsoft Windows 7 version: 2015-06-29_11-49-51.bmp The list was created using a numbered list and entering Leonard , then moving to a bulleted list for the next line, then going back to a numbered list for James. What I'd really like is for Evernote to return to the previous list and number "James Crocker" as "2" instead of starting a new list. The other odd behaviour is in the following screen capture where, after cutting and copying a line to a new location, it ends up as having two numbered lists associated with it: 2015-06-29_12-11-34.bmp Every HTML editor I've ever worked with can do this correctly; how do I do this in Evernote?
  5. I've kept daily to-do lists in Evernote for years. I'd love to have a pretty little (customizable) jingle and stars (or hearts) when I complete a task and check the box! Dopamine hits are part of what keeps users hooked on social media apps. They are also the "reward" part of creating good habits. If you could add this little fun feature to task completion . . . it would ROCK my world. It would make your app more FUN and therefore even more useful. Who's with me?

    Basic Outlining

Evernote is good at making numbered lists and sub-lists of numbered lists that are also numbered in the same way. For Example: 1. 2. 3. 1. 2. 4. I don't know why anyone needs that functionality? Couldn't the sub-list use capital letters instead of numbers? This would allow anyone who is trying to make a basic outline to follow a traditional form without a lot of time spent formatting.
  7. Hello, this is my first time in the forums so I'll try to be brief... I have an issue with the numbering format for numbered lists with indented bullets. I had a list of bulleted material with sub bullets that I wanted to change into a numbered list. When I tried to do this however, first some of the tabs and formatting for my existing subullets were removed and realigned with my main bullets. Also, it changed the sub bullets to numbers (which I guess makes sense in theory) when I would have preferred to leave the sub-bullets alone and stay bullets. But my biggest problem of all (that also seems to have no manual work around) is that when you change the list to numbered, if there are any sub-bullets under any of the numbers, the numbers reset to 1 for the next main item on the list after the sub-bullet for the previous number. I cannot figure out how to fix this for the life of me. Plz help.
  8. I have a general to-do list, and a garden to-do list. I would really like to have them in the same note, side by side, so that I can see both. Is there any way to do this with EN?
  9. I like to use bullet lists a lot. Makes it more clear that you're starting a new point. On the other hand, I hate that there's so much ''wasted" space on the left side. In evernote it's about equivalent to 8 or 9 spaces Would be great setting in evernote, that the user can specify how many spaces (?) the list enumeration should be
  10. Other note systems can do the following which I personally find really helpful. Say you have written a list ITEM1 ITEM2 ITEM3 ITEM4 ITEM5 You then highlight one of the entries and then use the keyboard SHIFT + ALT + UP-ARROW or SHIFT + ALT + DOWN-ARROW to move an item up and down the list.
  11. Please find a way to make all text in Moleskine notebooks extractable & importable into other uses/applications (like calendars & To Do Lists). At present, it's supposedly "searchable." However, the search never works for me. This was the whole reason I got the Moleskines & Evernote Premium. As I understand it, it's supposed to only be searchable, and it simply inserts images as a jpg (rather than doing anything with the text.)
  12. I need to see the tags in the lists. Without this it is impossible to use. You suddenly hid them, and there the information necessary for searching and navigating, the description of the content. Earlier in the lists I could see the content type: file, schema, article, instruction. Now I can not.

Reorder text notes and list notes

I create lists of things I need to do. I prioritize my time by reordering the list and removing items when they're done. I want to be able to reorder the list easily using buttons, hotkeys, or drag and drop. This seems like such an easy feature to add to both the web and Windows versions. Reordering lists as priority changes are crucial to my system. Having to copy out of EN into a text editor (notepad++ for me) just so I can CTRL+SHIFT a row up and down and then having to copy it back so that I can view the changes on my other devices leaves me at risk of losing my changes. I copy out, reorder and forget to copy back. For me, checkboxes don't work. If I'm done with a ToDo, I want it out of my view. CTRL+SHIFT+D should delete the current row in the list. If I'm scanning down through my list and I see items that need to be done before the one at the top of the list, I want to be able to move them to the top. Clicking on that line or highlighting any part of any line and pressing CTRL+SHIFT+UP should move the selected rows up one row, CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+UP should move it up all the way. Alternatively, you could drag and drop them.
  14. I've been using Evernote for years to make outlines. Early on, it was kind of clunky. Strange things would happen when I tried to delete, cut, and paste. In the last couple of years it seemed to get smoother, but now I'm getting weird behavior again. For example, if I'm working with a numbered outline (ordered list) with several levels of indentation and I cut a line, I will frequently (but not always) see a new line with a new number created at the first level of indentation just above where I cut. And sometimes when I cut multiple lines, the numbers of the lines I cut will not disappear. The text will be cut, but not the lines or the numbers. Weird. My question is, did Evernote do something with the code that is causing this to happen? As I said, I don't recall having this problem all the way through 2015 and most of 2016. But just recently it feels like it's getting buggy again.
  15. I use Evernote for academic purposes and I'm often selecting several bits of text to add to the same note via the Mac services "Add to Evernote". At the moment, Mac service Evernote create a new note for each addition. I would like an option that is "Add to existing/selected note" and 'Add to new note"
  16. Hello, The Evernote User Experience Research team would like your input! 17. After a certain 6.x beta update a week or two back - I don't recall which, and I was expecting another update would fix it, but the original update appears to have caused an actual change in the order of the ENML tags for bulleted lists in the content of all? most? of my notes so the lists are all effectively upside down now. D C B A Four Three Two One It's not what I'd classify as serious, though when combined with the usual issues with bullets, which seem to be worse now, I'd definitely tag it with ^Major PITA Apart from the usual issues with bullets, and the issue with numbered lists, I haven't seen a thread addressing this problem specifically. If there is one, then I'll happily delete this and move there instead. EDIT: this comment / sub-thread addresses it insofar as to say if you took the risk of using beta versions then there's nothing that can be done and you're on your own. I'll leave this topic here as a top-level reference to that comment, and the follow-up.
  18. Hi, I want to create numbered lists with extra information under each item. Please see the attached file for an example of what I want. Can lists like these be created with Evernote for Mac? Thanks!

    Reordered Lists

Is it possible to have a simple sorting/reordering option for lists? For example, when I create a bulleted list it would be ideal to be able to sort it ascending or descending either numerically or alphabetically. That would mean I can work within Evernote much more rather than switch between Word, Google Docs, and Evernote.
