  1. If I make a bulleted list in Evernote then try to copy and paste it into Microsoft Word the formatting goes all wonky. The bullets lose their hierarchy in Word (they all appear left justified) though they still maintain their style. There is no simple way to remedy this. This undermines Evernote's role in Office-related workflows. Add onto this the recent dramatic loss of privacy which allows Evernote employees to read my notes and it may be time to just switch to OneNote. Even if you paste it as unformatted text it still includes hyphens at the start of every line. Any way to get a bulleted list to be formatted correctly when pasting into Microsoft Word and other MS products?
  2. Since a couple weeks, I've experienced getting a blank Notes list, but if you click in the white space, Notes appear, so they are definitely there - just not showing. I've encountered it mainly in lists of Notes that are a result of a search. Anyone else having this issue? I got Version 7.0.3. I'll post a screenshot the next time it happens again.
  3. Hello Evernote developers, Can you add multi-level aka nested lists? If there's one formatting feature that must be added ASAP, it's this one. Hope to hear from Evernote as to whether this feature is going to be added. Best regards, Kitezh47
  4. Ever since the newest update to Evernote, all of my dashes ("-") are changing to bullet point lists. I DESPISE THIS. Using dashes in my lists has just been something that I've done my whole life, and this makes it incredibly annoying to have to use bullet points or double dashes just to make a list. If I wanted bullet points, I would simply select them in the formatting section. I imagine my one complaint will not make this change, but I need to make my grievances clear.
  5. Is there a way to make a simple list of my Notebooks? Highlight and copy doesn't work and I don't find any other buttons to push.
  6. Hey y'all, I'm running Evernote on Mac and was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut to move the focus to the list while in list view? I searched this forum and the help documents but couldn't find anything (so please excuse if I was just too dim to find it ;-) Thanks!
  7. I am a list maker. And a note taker. I truly love EverNote and think of it first when I think of making lists, but it is not truly set up for just that. Any attempt within EverNote is trying to take it's abilities aimed at good notation for another purpose. I would like to see a free standing EverList program or LISTable like Scanable. Simple fare with a right swipe to complete and a left sweep to archive. Searchable, sharable, and perhaps with a community template component for common Items like grocery, etc. That second part (community templates) could make it very industry desirable. I'm a REALTOR and could see a Real Estate template setup for taking listings, staging check lists, etc. Oh the branding opportunities....
  8. Reinstatement of Card View - Evernote Version 8 Lacks Retrieval Cues of Version 7 Evernote's aspiration has always been ambitious in seeking to provide users with a kind of external super-brain, capable of remembering everything, forever, in an organized, ubiquitously available way, with effortless capture and recall. However, for this virtual repository to come close to being an annexe of one's own brain, a basic grasp of neurology and emulation of the processes by which memory works would be helpful ie. in terms of encoding, consolidating, retaining and retrieving. Neurologists seem to agree that memories are not retrieved by means of a simple pathway, but through a complex web of interconnecting neural networks working together. For this reason the abadonment of the elaborate card-view in Version 7 of Evernote is a big mistake since by drastically reducing the number of retrieval cues, access to stored information has now become much more limited and difficult. In Version 8, browsing through notes, especially those where audio, sketch or attached files are included but hidden, is a dispiriting experience since there is no easy way of knowing where things are, without quite a bit of guesswork and selecting each note preview individually. There is only a single, very lengthy column to look through and no way to skim a large number of detailed previews quickly, as there was in Version 7. The search bar is of little help in recalling important stuff uploaded but forgotten about. Notes may still be stored on Evernote servers, but they are no longer readily accessible. The design of the app may appear less cluttered and the app possibly performs faster but it's at the expense of it's basic function. It's as if one's house has been tidied up when out and all essential belongings unexpectedly stashed away in the dark recesses of a vast store with only a small door to get in and no light. Personally, I have invested a huge amount of extremely important information, from every area of my life into Evernote and it's crucial I stay in touch with it on a daily basis. Having placed my faith and trust in the system, I need it to work reliably. I am sorry to be critical, but it's a serious matter for me and it seems I'm not alone in my criticism of the latest update. I wouldn't like to see Evernote become Nevernote, redundant and unloved. Reverting back to the comprehensive card view is a no-brainer and would be a positive step in sorting out some of the current issues.
  9. I just installed the Evernote app for Mac and was setting up the screen layout to my preferences. First I switched the view to "Top List View," then I started resizing the columns so I could read everything. Unfortunately, when I resized the "Title" column by double clicking on the right edge of the "Title" column header (similar to what I do in Excel to auto-resize a column to fit to contents), it resized that column to take up the entire screen, and now I cannot resize it to be any smaller! When I put my cursor over the right edge of the column, instead of resizing the column it wants to resize the overall app window, since the column now stretches to the edge of the app. Any ideas for how to resize a column when I can't access the edge of the column?? I've already tried: Removing the Title column from the view and adding it back. The old sizing is remembered and it takes up the whole screen as soon as I add it back. Re-ordering the columns so that the Title column is between two others. It doesn't make a difference - Title still takes up the whole window and I can't view the other columns. Toggling between view modes (i.e., Side List View, Top List View, Card View, etc.). Changing settings in the other view modes does not seem to affect the Top List View settings. I'm willing to uninstall and reinstall the app if needed, but wondered if there is an easier way to fix this. Thanks!
  10. For example, currently clipping a list like item 1 item 2 item 3 from item 2, would save a note like item 2 item 3 But it would be nice if the clipper could instead save item 2 item 3 Where the first item starts with number 2. This can be achieved with the start attribute on the ordered list (ol) element. (Worth bearing in mind there are probably lists on the web, where the start attribute is already set, and the list starts at item 1290...)
  12. I've searched for this but cannot find anyone else talking about it, so starting a new thread. First of all I really do love Evernote! I' currently using Evernote in combination with Apple workflow. In this case I'm importing a text file including several lists (The list do have captions) The imported file includes several lists and the items of these lists should be formatted as a list with checkboxes. However it is a bit of a hazzel to do this manually. Is there any way that Evernote will identify these items as checkbox already? When I'm creating a list manually and using [ ] it will be converted to a checkbox. Now I'm looking for a way to have the same function for imported text files. I do apologise for my engllish in advance. Have a great day Christof
  13. Please add the ability to toggle collapse lists. This feature is common to all text editors when dealing with code blocks. It would be very helpful when dealing with long lists to be able to collapse child nodes.
  14. Hi everybody, I have a suggestion for Evernote to implement, imitating the concurrent Dropbox, in the creation of task lists. Give your opinions, please. Open link with the question: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s138/sh/06596e19-8f45-489b-91e1-18359829a9ba/16ae4cc44c77bee6
  15. I am using the latest windows desktop version: 5.9.1.8742 and the latest android version of evernote. I use many tags with two words, for example “Europe France” and “Europe Germany”. When i try to tag a note with “France”, the tag list doesn’t show “Europe France” tag. Facing the same problem on evernote android app but on evernote website its working perfectly ! I am missing something? or the desktop and android version doesn’t support this? Please help.
  16. In the latest update for IPAD/IPOD, the CARD VIEW is gone, in favour for the LIST VIEW. This is very strange to me, from a workflow perspective, as you can have an overview of twice the amount of notes on a screen with card view than with list view. In list view you also use half the screen to access the note, so as enabling you to edit it whilst still seeing the list of notes. Now, this workflow may work for many, but I'd reckon there is a significant amount of people that like to edit their notes full screen ( using screen space for what is relevant at the moment ) , and so would go full screen anyway when editing notes. Is there an official statement to why CARD VIEW is gone ? I just can not seem to find a logical reason to defend it being gone from a workflow point of view..
  17. In the latest update of Evernote, on the Ipad, you have to press the "list" icon, and then specify from a sub-meny what kind of list you want, whereas in the previous version you had access to list-type directly from the top of the keyboard. There is plenty of room there for icons ( now it's just white space where the icons used to be, ) so I see no reason for making it a 2-click operation to make a specific list, when you could just selct list-type directly. This also accounts for the "tab-level" functions as well. I am writing because I take a lot of notes during meetings, and this new hierarchy of list-functions really slowed down my workflow
  18. I've noticed, that soft-return shortcut had been recently changed from "shift + enter" (usual shortcut in all software and OS) to uncommon "ctrl + enter" on mac desktop version (I'm using it). This annoys me a lot, because this is a common normal shortcut and I expect it to act the same in all text editors, including Evernote. How can I change it back to the usual one?
  19. Is there a workaround to getting a tag list? Is using SQL on a copy of the .exb file possible? I've noticed a number of posts on the forum about obtaining a tag list. They seem to dwell on 1) you cannot export or print a tag list in EN and/or 2) it would be a nice feature to have and will you please make it immediately or yesterday. It appears that none of these posts has yielded a definitive answer about a workaround. I have about 3,000 tags. That number is rapidly growing. I access EN two ways: EN for Windows and online in Chrome. I curate the tags in a hierarchy. I am aware that the prevailing consensus seems to be that tags are a superior way to organize one's EN content than notebooks, at least beyond some threshold volume of notes. But it has become tough to organize tags. My tags and their hierarchy are in continual flux as I add notes. I have about 35,000 notes. I continue to add tags and to delete and rearrange them. I am experimenting with the use of "special characters," ie., punctuation characters, to establish various categories. By "curation" I mean inspecting how the tags are organized (naming conventions and hierarchical arrangement) to be sure there is internal consistency. Part of the difficulty in doing so is that: a) there are so many; I can only see a small subset of them at a time; c) lacking an overview, I tend to have several curation and re-organization efforts going on concurrently and/or only partially implemented. d) these curation and re-organization efforts can be in conflict. The whole effort has become analogous to examining an entire landscape sequentially by examining parts of it through the narrow aperture of a drinking straw. But examining things sequentially can never replace simultaneous examination. I want to see all the tags. I need an overview, and to see their hierarchical organization at a glance. I am aware that there is no feature in EN to either print or export tags. Can I extract the tags using SQL? Doing so would not change the actual working file. I could use a copy of my .exb file (Windows platform), perhaps renaming it to a .db, and obtain from that renamed file a list of all of my tags. I recognize it is not good to go into the original backend database file with SQL tools. I would never touch that. It would be helpful to get even just a tag list, regardless of the hierarchical level of each tag. Getting the tags in their hierarchy would be good, though it's not strictly necessary. If you believe that it is infeasible to access the tags in a read-only manner via SQL, please let me know if you are aware of some other option. For example, alternately, is there some third-party software, perhaps analogous to VB for Office, or some macro-like utility of some kind, that would enable me to copy the tags successively, whether from within EN for Windows or EN in my browser, and paste them into MS Word? I am confident that it will be infinitely easier to manage them, once I have them in a word-processing document. I will be able to see the tags and their hierarchical position all at once rapidly, to grok relationships among them, disparities; similar, duplicative labels, etc. Changes to them in a Word doc can then be easily made in the original EN file. I would welcome any suggestions. That said, I do not imagine it would be helpful to question, why do you have so many tags? If you are thinking in those terms, please realize that you may be using EN for entirely different purposes and/or not have as much content. I have about 35,000 notes. Consider that the interrelationships among notes increase enormously as you add new topical areas. I want to track these with the tagging system. Nor do I imagine it would be helpful to ask, how can you use so many notes? Consider that, for the value that I wish to create, I do not need to use them all. Nor is it possible at the moment that I clip them to determine either exactly how I might use them or the likelihood that I will do so. Please realize that the process of capture with EN is often done intuitively, rather than with extensive planning aforethought. In that respect, EN is (or should be) not only a way of managing information. It is also (or should be) a way of managing how to allocate one's limited attention. Likewise, scrolling through a very lengthy tag list in EN for Windows does not support human cognitive strengths and inherent limitations.
  20. Hi, I attach lots of files in my notes like pdf with hundreds of pages and its not practical to have to scroll down all the pages to reach the next file. I think it would be more practical if there were a possibility to see a list of all the attached files. Or simply the possibility to collapse/develop the documents. Same idea for the photos, it would be more practical if there were the posibility to see miniatures of them. Thanks a lot if you can do something for that.
  21. Hi, is there a way to export all tags to a txt-file (or into a EN-Note)? Kind regards Olli
  22. Hi One of the things I really need (and use) across all my devices is a good list making app (that's synced). But the ability to make really good lists doesn't seem to be a feature that's well covered by Evernote. A couple of suggestions: 1) The (free) app I currently use for my lists (not Evernote btw) is one where there is a tick box so I can 'tick' the items that have been completed, and then (the really clever bit) the 'ticked' items get moved automatically to the bottom of the page. This is such a great feature, as I can see clearly what tasks still remain, but I can also refer to those that are completed - without them being all muddled together. Such a simple, yet effective idea. The lack of this feature is major reason why I don't use Evernote that much, why I have chosen not to keep my Evernote premium subscription, and why I'm not that bothered that I can only use Evernote across two devices with the basic Evernote offering. I would like to be able to keep my lists all within the same place. 2) I've been looking into the concept of the Bullet Journal (http://bulletjournal.com) I love the idea, but would prefer a synced version I can use across my devices. So Evernote, what about some sort of Bullet Journal* Template or Notebook that would fulfil this purpose? (*obviously set up in a way to avoid any copyright issues). It would be great to be able to create a custom template that I could re-use time and time again. 3) It would also be great to be able to create my own list making template. I usually divide a handwritten list for the week into 4 sections like this: IN - do IN - phone, email, text OUT - buy OUT - do I tried to set up a template to do this in Evernote, but it was too complicated, long winded and didn't work. If anyone could point out if I've missed something that could help me do these things in Evernote, I would really appreciate it. Thanks
  23. Hi, I have a feature request to be able to add an email list to send a note or list to when created. This way when a user creates a note they can add a list of emails to send the note to when they are ready to send the note. You can import/link individual or all contacts into Evernote from Google or Microsoft Live or any of the other services that come to mind that keep contacts in their services. Then a user can choose which emails from the list of contacts to send the note or list too. I believe this will enhance the user experience and will broaden the scope and marketing of Evernote by giving all the recipients of the note or list an option within the email to subscribe to Evernote. It doesn't need to just be a feature for paid users only, either, because Evernote will be improving their marketing because all recipients will have a link to purchase a subscription or sign up to Evernote.
  24. I use the Android app to, among other things, making actionable lists. I use the bullets and numbers as well, but most of my notes contain the checkmark boxes and I really like them. Recently, I've started noticing that creating lists using checkmarks accidentally deletes checkmarks if you use the spelling/auto-correct feature (e.g. typing 'bana' and then hitting the word 'bananas' deletes the checkmark on the beginning of the line). I'm not sure if this is a bug, or I'm using Evernote incorrectly, but I've never noticed this behavior before. Can someone give me an idea of what is going on here?
  25. problem I just upgraded to version 5.9.9.9915 (277915) Public and noticed a strange behavior that concerns formatting lists (orderer or unordered). When you select part of a list entry (e.g. the first word) and change its font color, the font color will apply to the whole line now instead of just your selection. This only happens with the font color as far as I can tell. When you change the font weight to bold, for instance, only the selection will become bold but not the rest of the line. This problem occurs only at the default font size (15 for me). reproduction I'm attaching screenshots for convenience. In the screenshot I mark only the word "sample" red, yet the color is applied to the whole line inadvertently. create a new empty note create a list and type a couple of words select one of the words and change its font color (e.g. to red) the whole line's text is now colored red, instead of just the selection current work arounds Copy the text whose color you want to change to a new line, change the color there and then paste it back into the original list. change the font size of the list Any help would be appreciated. I use font coloring extensively in lists and I feel very comfortable with my current font size for reading on screen and printing.
