  1. I don't understand why in the latest update of the Evernote desktop client you have statically changed the hotkeys. I want to be able to set my own hotkeys. I also want to be able to determine what things get autoformatted in a note. I do want asterisks to change into bullet points, but I don't want a sequence of dashes to change into a horizontal rule. These options should be opened up so the user can customize, just like in Adobe Photoshop. I love setting my own hotkeys and using them in Photoshop, it makes me so much more productive. If you did this it would make Evernote much more pleasurable to use.
  2. With this script you can press Control + Shift + 1 through 9, and it will set user defined custom styles to your selected note text. If I haven't made any parts of this tutorial easy to follow, please let me know. I use a lot of AutoHotKey scripts to automate Evernote, and I thought I'd share some of them. AutoHotKey is an incredible bit of (free) software that can automate anything that you can physically do with your computer. If you don't have a copy, you'll need to install it for this to work. To make sure your script is running every time you start Windows, do this. I work on a lot of documentation in Evernote, and I wanted a way to easily set standard heading and paragraph styles. I created a little script that let's me send Ctrl + Shift + 1 through 9 to set various styles that I have defined. Here's the script, and then I'll explain how it works: #IfWinActive, ahk_exe evernote.exe ^1::SetFontStyle("bold", 18) ^2::SetFontStyle("italic", 16) ^3::SetFontStyle("bold", 14) ^Space::SetFontStyle("regular", 12) #IfWinActive SetFontStyle(weight, size) { currentSendMode := A_SendMode ; Get the current Send Mode SendMode Event ; Event mode works better in the Font dialog Send {Home}+{End} ; Select the current line Send ^d ; Open the Font dialog box WinWait Font, , 5 Sleep 200 Send !y%weight% ; Style Send !s%size% ; Size Send {Enter} SendMode %currentSendMode% } The first hotkey Control + Shift + 1 sets the font to be 18pt bold. The second hotkey Control + Shift + 2 sets the font to be 16pt italic. If you want to change the settings to suit yourself, just edit the lines in the middle that are marked. You can make yourself as many hotkeys as you like, here's the format for doing them: https://autohotkey.com/docs/Hotkeys.htm Here's the explanation: First off is the #IfWinActive command. This means the hotkeys will only be active if the Evernote window is in the foreground. The next lines call a function named SetFontStyle when you press a hotkey. "^+1::" means if Control (^), Shift (+) and the number 1 key are pressed at the same time, it knows to run the function with a font style of "bold" and a font size of "18". In the SetFontStyle function, "Send ^d" sends the keystroke Control + D, to bring up the font dialog box. We then wait for the Font dialog window to pop up. Next line tabs to the font style part of the box and sets it as bold, then tabs to the font size and sets it as 18 points. We then hit enter and exit the dialog. Simple! Hope this helps someone. --- If you have another language than English, please follow these instructions to make it work with your language: You'll need to modify the name of the Font dialog. Change the word "Font" to be whatever your one is: WinWait Font, , 5 And then on these two lines: Send !y%weight% ; StyleSend !s%size% ; Size You'll need to make sure the keyboard shortcuts still work in your language. Here is my Font dialog. Notice how there is an underline under the 'y' of 'Style', and under the 'S' of 'Size'. That is the shortcut key. Have a look in your one and find out what letter it is, and then change the two lines of the script to match. I've highlighted in red the two letters in the snippet of code above. Save it and reload, and it should work for you!
  3. After a bit of Googling, I am unable to find any official documentation regarding hotkeys or any other sort of convenient formatting for the new web product. Mainly what I'm looking for is an easy way to use Header styles for organization without having to manually change font-size, font-color, or any other manual change that would have to be remembered to keep it consistent across notes and time. Whether this is through something like Markdown or some in-house method doesn't matter: so long as it's possible. This is in part a bit of a revival of a past request from the old product forums:
  4. One of Evernote's primary strengths the workflow provided by its keyboard-friendly UI, which allows you to accomplish many things in a fraction of the time required to point and click. Reminders have been without keystroke support for a long time, and it's a major workflow disruption. Please consider a quick fix, which could be accomplished without dedicating an official "Keyboard Shortcut," by simply adding a keystroke sequence that lets you move through the File menu: Just as Copy Note Link is available mouse-free (Alt, N, L) , Add Reminder could be accessible via Alt, N, R (currently unused)
  5. What do we usually do to bring order to our notes? - CMD + L. Change the title - CMD + ‘. Add tags. - CMD + CTRL + M. Move to another notebook. - CMD + SHIFT + F. Clear format to get rid of visual garbage. 4 different patterns for 4 most common operations aimed at the same goal. Seriously?? If Evernote is indeed for proffesionals, there should be the option to change shortcuts. Not only those called "global" - all of them! Thank you.
  6. I hope this is the right forum. Lately I've been experimenting with Autohotkey. I went a little overboard and automated everything. I thought some of you might find the ones I wrote up for Evernote useful. Especially the following: Tag Search: Highlight any text and search for it as a tag. This way you can link to tags inside notes. Search in Google: Highlight any text and search for it on google. Change Link Color: This one is a bit complicated (and a bit dangerous, don't move or click while it runs) but once you run it it'll allow you to change the link color. It's automatically set to gray, which is what I use, but you can highlight the link, change the color, and it'll change. It works because I discovered links made internally can change their color, but not those copied/pasted (at least on the windows client). Basically it relinks the link. User Switching: Obviously not as good as Evernote's built in switch for users and obviously a security risk (your username/password has to be entered into the script) but for those of you who share computers and don't mind the slight security risk, it works. Full List of Hotkeys Basically it's optimized so that you can keep your left hand to the left and your right on your mouse and easily edit/format things. Note that it disables the Capslock key (it produces a horizontal rule instead). The full script I use (and further notes) can be found here. It has a few extra Evernote related hotkeys. Code for Evernote Section Below. Capslock + 1 Changes to 1st User (set in variables/options). Capslock + 2 Changes to 2nd User (set in variables/options). Capslock + 3 Changes to 3rd User (set in variables/options). Capslock + Alt Changes the Link Color. Set the mouse cursor right at the end of the link then run. Don't move/click while it runs. You've been warned. Right Click + Left Click Searches for selected text as a tag so you can add # Tags to notes then searching them by highlighting Tag and Right Click + Left Click. Right Click + Scroll Wheel Up Increases Text Size Right Click + Scroll Wheel Down Decreases Text Size FORMATTING Right Click + Ctrl Bold Right Click + Shift Italics Right Click + Capslock Highlight Right Click + Alt To-Do Checkbox Right Click + Windows Bullets Right Click + Space Create Link Right Click + Tab Toggles Center/Left Paragraph. It's two shortcuts in one key so holding right click and hitting tab will alternate between the two. Middle Click Hides Left (Notebook) Panel Capslock Horizontal Rule. I have this because I tend to use it a lot to separate clipped text/ideas. Capslock + Middle Click Toggles Note Info and Editing Toolbar. See Note Below. Capslock + Right Click Increase Indent Capslock + Left Click Decrease Indent Updates Fixed it not working in the note view and also simplified some of the scripts. 7. I've been meaning to post something about this since the UI revamp on the windows client. I love Evernote because I can CTRL+ALT+N and start typing a new note. However, I really like to be able to rename the title to something useful. Try this: CTRL+ALT+N F2 (to change the title) "New Title" TAB (This takes you to the created date for some reason) TAB (This looks like it takes you to the body of the note, but it lies like a dog.) At this point you have a blinking cursor in the body of the note, and typing does nothing. You can't even tab out of this state to another field. I have to then click on something. Other than that, thanks for an awesome product!
  8. Hello, I have a conflict between Evernote Capture Screen global Hotkey, and my ScreenShot Captor. They both use Shift + PrntScreen to grab a selected region of the clipboard. I would like to assign Evernote's feature to a different hotkey combination, such as LeftShift + PrntScreen. I saw that the global hotkeys were defined as registry keys in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Clip selection]@="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Evernote\\Evernote\\\\EvernoteIERes\\Clip.html?clipAction=3""Contexts"=dword:00000010 If I delete these keys, the hotkey seems to be not working anymore. So it looks like it is the right registry key to change. However, I do not know to which value to set it, in order to have LeftShift+PrntScreen (or any other shortcut) to work. Is it possible? How do you define this value? Is there a table or a formula to get the right value? Thanks, François-Xavier
  9. I wanted a faster way to tag, so wrote the following script. It allows quick tagging of notes using control and the number keys. For example pressing control and 1 will tag a note with 1.Now Steps:1. Install Auto key (more info @ http://lifehacker.com/316589/turn-any-action-into-a-keyboard-shortcut)2. Create a new script in Autokey3. Copy the following text in the script and save the autokey file: GroupAdd, EN_Windows, ahk_class ENMainFrameGroupAdd, EN_Windows, ahk_class ENSingleNoteView#IfWinActive, ahk_group EN_Windows^1::Send {F3}Send 1.NowSend {return}return^2::Send {F3}Send 2.NextSend {return}return^3::Send {F3}Send 3. SomedaySend {return}return^4::Send {F3}Send 4. WaitingSend {return}return^5::Send {F3}Send @computerSend {return}Return^6::Send {F3}Send @computerSend {return}Send {F3}Send 1.NowSend {return}return^0::Send {F3}Send 0.RockSend {return}Return 4. Double click on the autokey file (if it is running correctly it will appear as an icon in the task bar – if not it will tell you what line the error is on)5. Test the script – open Evernote and start a new note then press control 1 and the tag 1.Now will appear6. Click on start/all program and right click on Startup and select open7. Copy the script to the folder8. You can then edit the script and change my tags to your need (e.g. replace 1.Now or add a shortcut for control 7) Note:You can configure other hot keys in the script control is ^ Alt is ! and shift is +. (e.g you could configure a tag if you press control alt and 2 = ^!2):: tells the script to assign your command to this keyControl 6 assigns 2 tags
  10. Hi, I use the keyboard a lot and prefer to use hotkeys for navigation as much as possible. There appears to be reference to the ctrl+enter link navigation as an alternative function in the following kb article: http://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#/article/23168552 but I cannot ctrl+enter on either note references or web links. Is this still possible?
  11. 1. Why can't I change the hot keys for my notes on the desktop client? 2. Why can't I assign hot keys to all of my notes on the desktop client.
