  1. I'm getting closer to beginning the substantial project of going paperless using my new ScanSnap scanner and Evernote. Most of the documents I'll be scanning are two-sided black-and-white documents that were highlighted by me. I have some questions on what the optimal ScanSnap settings might be. Looking at ScanSnap Manager... 1) The "Scan to Evernote (Document)" profile seems like it would be the logical starting point, right? What's the difference between this and the "Scan to Evernote (Note)" profile? It seems like the former creates a PDF and the latter creates a JPG? For purposes of Evernote, why would someone ever want to create a JPG instead of a PDF? Are there any advantages? 2) Under "Application > Application Settings..." there is a checkbox for "Convert to Searchable PDF". See...http://d.pr/i/bQumJ6. I assume selecting this option has it so that Evernote performs OCR instead of ScanSnap's software? Is such a setup preferable? (I see a separate "Convert to Searchable PDF" option under "File option > Select OCR". See...http://d.pr/i/ezk4HH. I assume selecting this option has it so that ScanSnap performs OCR instead of Evernote? Or am I just confused here?) 3) ScanSnap allows you to select an "Image saving folder" on your hard drive. See...http://d.pr/i/E7M5tq. If the document is being saved in Evernote, what reason is there to have an additional copy taking up space on your hard drive? Is there any way to turn this off? 4) Anyone have any tips for best practices for "File name format"? Here are the options that are presented...http://d.pr/i/bZ3n3T. 5) What "Image quality" level do folks recommend? Or do folks just go with automatic resolution? Here are the options that are presented...http://d.pr/i/DYiIxr. 6) Given that most of my documents are highlighted, I'm leaning towards setting the "Color mode" to "Color". Will this be okay? It's important to me that the highlighting I did in these documents, in yellow, is captured in these scans. 7) Is there any reason to select the "Reduce bleed-through", "Brightness", "Increase text contrast", or "Deskew by text on document" options? See...http://d.pr/i/NnPIsE. 8) What do folks recommend for "Compression rate"? Given the massive number of documents I'll be scanning, I want to be at least somewhat conscious of space, but I also don't want to have any issues with legibility. See...http://d.pr/i/6YYLqr. 9) Any other key settings that I didn't mention in the above that are worth paying mind to, including any related settings on the Evernote side of things? I'm all ears. Thanks in advance for your guidance and insights!
  2. I'm considering purchasing the Fujitsu iX500 ScanSnap Scanner for the main purpose of integrating it into my Evernote workflow. I'm sure there are many others out there with this setup. I'd be curious to hear about their experience, both the positives and the negatives, as well as any tips they have on which model to purchase, the optimal settings to select, etc.. (Speaking of, does anyone know the difference between the two models currently available on Amazon...https://www.amazon.com/Fujitsu-ScanSnap-Document-Scanner-PA03656-B305/dp/B01G3JYVYM?) Thanks in advance!
  3. Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager for my s1300i has stopped recognizing that Evernote for Mac is installed. It reports that it can't find or install EN, even though it's already running. This happens when I try to select either of the two Evernote icons (pdf or jpg). The other menu items seem to work--e.g., I can still save to Google or to a folder, and it can still save as an OCR-enabled PDF. So I can still drag them to Evernote after scanning to a folder. But those two Evernote icons just stopped working. I emailed EN, and the person replied that they only support the new ScanSnap for Evernote machine, and that I should just try uninstalling and reinstalling Evernote--other than that, sorry, can't help you. This seems to have happened approximately when I upgraded my OS to Mavericks; but I'm not sure it was exactly then. But the problem appeared on two different Macs at almost the same time; so I wonder if it's a problem with the OS. This is disappointing, since I think I've seen a number of people on various blogs complaining about a similar problem. I'd think that if Evernote wants to be seen as working well with a scanner, they'd try to support such a popular one. Also it's frustrating because it DID work, and suddenly stopped. Any suggestions?
  4. Hey Evernote Community, I am looking to go Paperless in the immediate future, and was wondering which portable scanner works best with Evernote. I have done some of my own research and keep being brought back to two options: Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 Doxie GoIf you have a different suggestion, please explain why you choose that specific model and if possible, provide a link. I appreciate everybody's feedback - James R.
  5. Just got a Jujitsu ScanSnap S1100 to use with evernote and wanted to ask a few questions: a) I'm using the "SnapScan Manager v3.2 L10" that came with the scanner - assume this is the best approach re software? b ) is there a way to auto-delete the scanned file (PDF in my case) on my Mac after the Evernote upload is complete? can't seem to see it c) is terms of tagging/folder etc I'm currently just waiting until it uploads into Evernote & then using the Evernote Mac application to set this stuff - is this the best approach? I haven't found any evernote folder/tag defaults or settings in the scapscan manager software... d) is there a way to do auto-mated upload to Evernote? i.e. so you don't have to choose from the "SnapScan Manager" the Evernote PDF upload option each time?
  6. Hi I've been using Evernote for a few years and I'm in the process of really cleaning up my life, which means I'm looking to go 100% paperless. For that I need a documentscanner but unfortunately most of them are two expensive for my current budget so it seems I have narrowed it down to either the Canon P-150M(I'm a Mac user, hence the M version) or the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 - The price is almost identical in my country so thats not an issue. I've read a few reviews on them but none of them are really thorough so the only thing i can conclude at the moment is that the Canon looks better when looking at the specs - Twice the scanning speed, TWAIN compatible, double ADF capacity, can scan a wider range of paperstocks but besides that I can't really figure out which one is the best so any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm curious about the quality of the scans(Both for documents and images), the ease of use, how good the ADF is, the ability to correct crooked scans etc. Especially if there is something that indicates the S1300 to be the right choice - The specs says otherwise but the specs are only part of the truth I've also just noticed the existence of the Epson GT-1500 in the same price range - Anybody have experience with that?
