  1. I have been a premium customer for years but never ran into this problem: evernote caps the number of folders-at 250. While in theory a limit is not unreasonable, what I find very objectionable is that I, a premium customer who pays $70/year, has the same limit as a person who opens a free account. In fact I think this may be the only major feature that does not upgrade as you go from free to plus to premium. I really think it is ridiculous and would expect to have a limit of at least 500 or 1000. Better yet would be no limit as this is kind of stupid anyway for paying customers. We should be given flexibility, not constraints when paying for a service.
  2. Two strong caveats: Don't get your hopes up. This is a Beta we're talking about, and one I've not used in anger yet, so I could be very wrong. But Evernote just introduced a new Business beta with a feature called 'Spaces'. Where previously you had Stacks, containing Notebooks, containing Notes, you can now have Spaces.. containing Notebooks, containing Notes. What's the difference? (I hear you ask). You can apparently share spaces. So far this is between members of the same business account, and Spaces are not (yet, and AFAIK) shareable to other accounts. But between partners, and within small businesses, it seems to me Evernote Business just got a whole lot more interesting. (Remember though that the Business client requires somewhat more admin than a personal account!) Don't know where Evernote is going with this, and I don't mean to hijack the official threads. But I don't usually look at the Business stuff that comes across my screen - I'm not a user, am happy with the accounts I have (premium plus a couple of basics) and didn't need the extra learning curve in my timeline without a very good reason to change. I hadn't heard of Spaces until it was trailed in a recent Mac update, but on first glance it does seem to have some very useful applications when sharing (to colleagues), and possibly also in project management and GTD - see the video in the first link above. I shall be making the switch soon... There may also be hierarchy implications - it's easy to make new spaces and add notebooks, and I don't yet know whether that makes things more flexible or not; but I'm keen to find out. I wanted to post this in the General thread so other Business post skippers will see the item, but if you do have any reactions after using the Business client, please post them in the appropriate thread (see the home page). Edited for accuracy. Another edit to include this link...
  3. Hi there, I browsed a little bit through this forum to find an answer regarding protecting a folder within my evernote account. Maybe I’m blind or stupid - but I found nothing regarding this feature. My Idea was to create a folder like "passbox" with important information like passwords or bank account. Would be great to get a feedback - btw - is there a link or email address available for suggestions? Kind Regards
  4. Currently, folder sort view is managed by a global setting that affects all notebooks. So if you sort one notebook by alpha, then all notebooks are sorted by alpha. I propose making this global setting a checkbox in preferences. The default is this setting is "checked," meaning one global rule for sorting all notebooks (the way things are now). But if you "uncheck" the box, then each folder could have its own sorting parameter. For example, you might sort an inbox folder by date, but you'd sort a folder of favorite recipes by alpha. What happens when you uncheck the box in preferences? All folders would have a default initial sort parameter equal to the one that existed immediately before the unchecking of the box. That is, if you're on the global setting and sorting by alpha, then if you uncheck the box, all folders would have an initial parameter of alpha sort. But then you could subsequently change this in each folder by choosing a new sort parameter (which would then obviously be remembered on a folder specific basis).
  5. While I know Evernote has a Desktop application, I would like one feature to be incorporated into Evernote (not sure if it already exists). It is a feature that will automatically upload to Evernote any file that I download to a particular folder on my Desktop. This is a feature that services like Dropbox and Flickr have. Recently, Google Drive incorporated it. Though I know that Google Drive can be accessed via Evernote, I am primarily an Evernote user, and I don't use Google Drive to store and organize my stuff. If it's already available in some form, kindly point me to it. Or else, I would be grateful, if this simple feature can be included in Evernote. Thanks and regards, Pradeep
  6. Hi. Intermittently, EN displays the wrong folder name. What happens is that I have been looking in a particular folder, click on the folder name and select a different folder. EN pauses and then displays the selected folder, but the displayed name of the folder does not change. One problem from this is, for example, that I am looking at notes in my !Inbox folder, and I can't merge them because (it seems) EN still thinks that it is looking in the Trash folder. I get an option to restore the notes (again!) but no option to merge them. What gives? This happens even after rebooting the computer, too, BTW. Thanks!
  7. I created a Shared Notebook, and I used the Tools | Import Folders feature to link folders on my file system that I want included into a shared index. Unfortunately, every time I edit an Excel file in one of those folders, Evernote is importing TWO "new" files. One of these is the original Excel file, and the second one is the automatically-created backup of this file. I edit some of these files 30 times a day. If I am doing a long edit I am constantly saving updates to the file system, and there Evernote goes and uploads these as new files. This is a real disaster because I end up with 60 new files that are all actually duplicates from the standpoint of people using the Notebook. If this is EverNote's idea of version control, it is not a useful implementation of the idea. This behavior makes the feature nearly unusable for actively maintained folders. Plan A: I looked for a way to turn off the automatic updating on a per-folder basis. I don't see that as an option! That isn't a good design. How can Evernote not see that actively maintained folders are going to generate lots of updates that create duplicate files? Plan B: Is there a way to alter this behavior globally? At this point, I would be okay with leaving the automatic updates turned off in some global option, and then once a week I do the update manually. Plan C: Assuming none of the above are possible, then would I be able to at least delete the entries in the Import folder function, and ever week when I want to do the update I would re-establish those entries and then when the update is finished I delete the entries again? Something tells me that if I do this, when I re-establish the Import Folder to the same files, I will end up with the entire Notebook duplicated. Plan D: Assuming nothing about this feature actually works for this application, then I am left with the possibility that I have to create the Notebook, import the folders, then immediately delete the Import Folder links. Once a week, I then have to delete the entire Notebook, recreate it from scratch, and resend invitations to Share the Notebook. That could get old fast, for both the content creator and the content users. This is pretty frustrating.
  8. I am new to Evernote and do not understand it very well yet. I have an application that I want to know if any version of Evernote can solve. I have hundreds of test reports created as PDF files, and these exist in a nested tree of folders at a specific folder on my local hard drive. What I want to have happen is for Evernote to *automatically* sync with that folder, so that any time I add a new file or folder to the local folders on my file system, this automatically uploads and is indexed into the Evernote notebook. The idea here is for Evernote to be able to create a full-text index for these files so that multiple people can search easily on any specific word found in any of those PDF files. It would be extremely time consuming and cumbersome if I had to manually sync the local folder and the Evernote notebook. So finding a way to have things just synchronize in the background and automatically is important. It is also important that changes made to the Evernote notebook do not affect the master files. If someone accidentally deleted files in the notebook, those actions should not result in deleting files on my file system. How close can Evernote get to this functionality, and which versions of the product do I need for that?
  9. Sorry if this has been asked or is obvious but I couldn't find the answer. How to sync, or if that is not possible, upload entire folders to Evernote? Evernote Web, Linux Mint 18.1 OS, Cinnamon 3.2.7 DE Thank you.
  10. There is value of being able to use a product with ease, to be able to navigate it easily, in a "native" way if you will. By making an alternative view, where users can view a notebook as a folder instead, I think would make evernote more user-friendly and appealing to many people. I know I would be able to get the folder-view instead, for a nice overview of the notes which feels intuitive, and then double-click it if I want to edit it
  11. most system setup have in average a folder depth of 5 to 7 folders Evernote has only the ability to import only 3 levels and leaving out the rest Example structlre like 1st level expenses 2nd level --years -2015 3rd level ----Quarters-- Q1 4th level -- Months----- Jan 5th level ------purpose---------- Private 5th Level -----purpose---------- Business there are many other ways that always go beyond the 3 levels limitiation or Evernote please increase the folder import and sync to 5 or 7 levels to imported
  12. Hi, I am using Evernote from last 4 months to save my notes. I opted chrome as my default browser as it syncs all my data (bookmarks, passwords, history) to cloud. But chrome doesn't provide any tagging feature for bookmarks (I need both folder and tagging facility) After half-day investigation (through browsers, add-ons, 3rd party software), I found firefox is providing both tagging and folder structure. I also investigated Evernote. But, I found out Notebooks cannot contain sub-Notebooks and Stack can contain only Notebooks (Max 2 level). Hence, I found it difficult to replicate the traditional nested folder bookmark structure (of chrome) using evernote. I also came across nested tagging. But, we can't have same name in different hierarchies. For example, I have a "parties" folder in both "work" and "family" parent folders. How cannot replicate it using evernote tags (I can't create work->parties and family->parties hierarchy). Am I missing something here ? If I can replicate the bookmark structure of chrome using Evernote, kindly let me know how ? I also wonder why people are moving from firefox to web clipper (for bookmarks) when firefox can handle both tags and folders.
  13. I have set up a folder to import into Evernote. The folder contains text files. I made a change to one of the text files and Evernote imported it as a new note. Is there any way around this? Thanks! Bruce
  14. Hi I've been using EVN quite happily for some years now but am new to sharing. The problem is: A friend of mine wanted to share a notebook with me, so I got the email on my Iphone and I clicked. And then I got the new shared notebook in my list on the phone... full with all the 3400 notes I created from the beginning, but with no trace of my friend's own notes! No trace either of the supposedly shared notebook on my computer or even by online access, in spite of repeated sync'ing. Anxious not to have me passing out (half of my notes are my diary), my friend was kind enough – at least he told me so – to delete the fateful notebook. He also told me none of my notes ever appeared on his device (an Ipad I think). Can someone tell me what happened? A harmless bug on my device or...? And how to make it not happen again? Thanks Fil
  15. I imported a folder from a usb to evernote by dragging it into a newly created Notebook. The folder, subfolders and files were imported but in a zip file. Now everytime I want to access them I hv to uncompress. Is there a way to import without turning them into zip files? Also now when I can not open these zip files in my ipad and iphone,
  16. Hi there folks, I am suddenly experiencing a problem with sending a mail to the evernote folder destination. The mail does arrive at the "all notes" section in Evernote, but even though I am doing exactly what I need to do (@notebook etc. as instructed in the knowledge base), I cannot get it to the destination folder of my choice This is such a cool feature and I really want to use it. Thanks Dan
  17. I really want to use evernote to hold emails and organize them better. every so often i need to forward an email to some one from my evernote. my issue is i cant go back and look to see if i actually sent it or not, and this produces and uneasy feeling in me that i notice. i would appreciate it if i evernote would create a "Sent" Folder within the activity showing just things that we have sent out from our ever note. i would especially appreciate an option when sending an item to have evernote autosend an item to my own email address by checking a box along with sending it to the person i am trying to write to.
  18. <3 am I just being %&) in not being able to find an option to save images in a different folder other than the default images folder for the camera? Ever time I take a picture in evernote, it is saved in the default phone images folder, which is completely frustrating and makes for importing/exporting images a pain in the bleep. Hopefully one of you can just tell how to change it at the price of me being called a complete nab
  19. Hello Joe and Evernote crew, thank you for helping me with this: Skitch does not sync to Evernote. I get prompted to the Evernote login window when I hit the "Save to notebook" button. (see screenshot) Both programs used to interact with one another before I decided to rename the skitch notebook in Evernote. Does that have anything to do with skitch not being able to sync? Why is there no destination folder defined despite the fact that I am apparantly logged in to Evernote? My versions: Mac OXS 10.6.8 Evernote 5.0.7 (400995) Skitch 1.0.12 Thanks Nip
  20. On Evernote for Windows, you can import a folder of files into a notebook as seperate notes. How do you do this on mac?
  21. love evernote, use it everyday. But the more I use it the more I need to trust that what I put in it is safe and easily accessible but at the moment the folder architecture where MY DATA is saved is very unfriendly, and seems like it is designed to be only accessed by the program and not by users... It still is very unpractical that there is no "show in finder" option anywhere on evernote. I requested many times this essential option. I assume that all the data of one note is stored in one folder within evernote. The user-friendly thing would be to be able to right-click show in finder on a note to be taken to this folder, and to do the same on an image or any file added to the note to be taken to that very file. I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW HELPFUL THAT WOULD BE . For instance, in some notes, I have added many many photos that I often need to access in their original file format without having to copy them individually and pasting them into folders, for example to show them in a preview slideshow. Knowing where my original data is stored is so crucial... I am sure as developers you understand that. The smart way to do it would be like the Itunes configuration where every song (note) is stored in a folder of that same name, in an album folder ( notebook) which in turn could be stored in a pile of notebooks (artist) folder, so that the architecture of the notes we SEE mirrors the folder architecture, instead of this intentionally obscure architecture. So why defy all logic and user friendliness? There is always some agenda in obscure program architecture... I would like to see evernote become it's best product possible because I really like it and can see myself using it for a very very long time, that being if I sense that the developers have my best interest at heart. In hopes that these constructive criticism will be heard this time. also, I still do not understand why we can not create a pile of notebooks within a pile of notebooks. That is very unpractical when things need to be ordered within subcategories
