  1. I was using Evernote to store passwords. Then my docment became 3 documents - conflicting changes, and 2 versions of the original. So I don't know which has the latest passwords and with 2 docs with the same name I have updated more than one. Then when I try to search for a keyword, it finds nothing. Sometimes after much shuffling about I find little yellow markers, but I had to scroll there myself. On the phone the software simply stalls and typing is mega slow across wi-fi. I did try to stich together the 3 docs but it was too much work. I left it as an archive and switched to Google Keep. Honestly, as a text editor with a simple find function it failed miserably. It's too bloated and too slow.
  2. I use well above 3.000 notes for academic purposes. Unfortunately, if you have a lot of notes, the standard search feature performs really bad (I am aware of th eadvanced search capabilities). At the moment it looks like it only checks notes for the search word and ranks them according to the last edit. This is not sufficient. When I create a note, for instance, I often link other notes to that note. When I search for the title of the note, I get all those notes where I added the link first, because that was the last edit. It would be great if there were better ranking functionalities like giving more weight to linked notes or keywords that appear in the title. Additionally I would highly appreciate if a search for "topics" would also come up with a note titled "topic". From a technical side: At the moment it looks like a simple boolean retrieval algorithm is implemented with a ranking by "last edit" It would be great if the title would receive a higher weight. Documents with higher term frequencies should also receive a higher weight. The same accounts for linked notes. One could make use of the hyperlink strucuter using "Hypertext-Induced Topic Search" or something similar to "PageRank". Search words are not lemmatized. If I have a note titled "topic" there is no way to find it using search word "topics". Some kind of context search functionality like "Latent Semantic Indexing" might also be useful .
  3. Search Search Search When you have a moment, can you let me know if "search' for Phrases in "Quotes" is something that is recognized as needing a MAC update? For example: I'm involved in writing a multiyear book project and have been using EVERNOTE (for years) for all my heavy lifting and research and writing for that matter. So, when I need to find something I tend to search across thousands of notes. I generally will look for a specific phrase like: "Quotes with words." Evernote does not recognize the quotes properly. 1) "Phrase in quotes" searching will more often than not, bring up notes that DO NOT even contain that precise phrase. 2) "Phrase in quotes" searching does not include the main titles of notes (???) shouldn't the note TITLE actually be the most important in every search? P1 3) "Phrase in quotes" searching will often bring up simple connecting words ONLY (not the phrase) i see this happening a lot in images with words in them... This should be a P1 BUG. So if I need to find the phrase "OF THE NAME" Evernote will attempt to find the phrase, but will also present and highlight SINGLE word INSTANCES: "of" "the" "and" This should not be the case. It should ONLY present the precise phrase allowing me to jump from phrase to phrase. Does this make sense. This is a huge issue, I'm now unable to find my work. 4) Often when I am able to find the exact phrase, Evernote will not easily allow a simple press of the return key in order to jump from found phrase to the next instance of the found phrase, in the same note, I'm required to choose 'command F' to then continue my search inside each note I choose. It's not an affective or efficient way to work.
  4. Would you it possible to have an option for evernote not scan the picture had a search? as this will not utils me and sometimes false research because it is me notes that have nothing to do with the search and view scanned images of the same does not have the word search ... I would like to settle evernote for he is not looking in the pictures ... français : Serais t'il possible d'avoir une option pour que evernote ne scan pas les image durent une recherche ? car celà ne m'est pas utils et fausse parfois les recherches car il me trouve des notes qui n'ont rien a voir avec les recherche et voir même des images scanné qui ne présente pas le mot rechercher... j'aimerait pouvoir regler evernote pour qu'il ne cherche pas dans les images...
  5. What Does the "Jump To Selection" Do in EN Mac Find? (Evernote 6.6.1 (453372) on OSX 10.10.5) Does anyone know what this is supposed to do, and how you use it? When I select it, nothing seems to happen. I'm trying to find text in the note, select that text, and then process it, all using a Keyboard Maestro macro. Unfortunately, it seems that EN Mac is using a very non-standard UI for Find. Screenshot:
  6. Firstly, I go to the following page: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/cth/HCA/2014/36.html Secondly, I do a select all (from Chrome) and then copy and paste into a note Thirdly, I press Command-F then do a search for "Defects Liability Period" (including the double quotes). Evernote reports "Not found" The term however, is in the document as can be verified by searching the original page. Why is Evernote not finding the search term when I use the 'Find within Note' function? I'm using version 6.0.6
  7. In older versions, if I used a command f search, and the term I was searching for wasn't present in the particular note I was searching, evernote would automatically search other notes for that term. Now it seems that I can ONLY search for a particular term in the note that I have open, and it is impossible to term search for particular terms within notebooks, or across notebooks. This severely depletes my ability to use the app, and to find terms in my extensive stack of notes. Or maybe I am just doing this wrong. Does anyone have a solution?
  8. Unless there's a reason (there might be) it's counterintuitive to keep the text from the previous Find Within Note in the search box. CTRL-F should present a clear field so the user can immediately start typing a fresh search term. Current workaround: CTRL-F / CTRL-A
  9. Let's say I start Evernote 5.6.4.4632 (272632) on Windows 7, fully patched. I type Cntl-f to be able to enter a search string. I enter the string I'm looking for in the box at the bottom on the screen. This works fine, and I close the box by clicking on the 'x' at the left hand side of the box. I then click Cntl-F again to search for another string. I see the string I searched for before, but it's in a completely different font - one that looks quite ugly. Plus, my cursor is positioned at the front of the string. To search for a new string, I have to move the cursor to the end of the string and remove the previous search text in the window. When I do this, and enter the new string, the string is displayed in the nice font that was used before when I entered the search the first time. There are 3 things that should change: 1) The font in the search window should always be the same. 2) The cursor should be positioned at the end of the previous search string. 3) There should be a single control sequence to clear the search window Cordially, Jon Forrest P.S. I reported this to Evernote as a bug but they blew me off saying to post it here. I don't understand why.
  10. I submitted this to support as a minor bug, but the ticket was ignored and was automatically closed. The bot recommended that I submit this here, but I'm not sure what good that would do, unless they are going to open-source Evernote or something. I need to use the Evernote for Windows application because the Android app "Find within Note" feature is so pathetic. The Evernote for Windows "Find within Note - Ctrl-F" feature is good, but is not quite right. On the second search, the application do leave the prior search term in the field, which is right, but does not pre-select/highlight the field, and place the cursor at the beginning of the field, instead of the end. This makes using the feature difficult since most commonly, one will want a different search term, or to use the right arrow to add to the field text already there. Instead, almost every time, one just starts typing expecting the selected text to be replaced with the new search term, but instead it gets place in front of the current text, so one has to use the arrow and backspace keys to fix it. So very clumsy. To see how this should properly work, try almost any windows application such as the Firefox browser, or the lowly Windows Notepad.
  11. Pressing CTRL+F will start search in current note, and the previous key words are there which is convinient if search again. BUT if the previous key words are in selected state will be better to easily change to other key words, also OK if user don't want to change. I remember the old version was like this, is it a new bug?
  13. I frequently use the [CTRL]F 'find' dialog in the reading panel of Evernote 5.5.3. Once I find the text I want, I press ESCape to dismiss the 'find' dialog box. When I subsequently press [CTRL]F to search for something else, my last query remains. This is a pain, as I have to manually delete what's in the dialog box, rather than typing my query. This behavior is different from almost all other Windows applications, so it isn't intuitive for most users. Can we clear the dialog box after dismissing it?
  14. At one time I was marking portion of text in a note with symbols. I was able (I think) to search for those symbols. However, I no longer can. For example, I'd like to mark unresolved questions with a double question mark (i.e., "??"), then use a saved search to retrive these items. Or, mark a follow-up item with a double ampersat symbol (i.e., "@@"). Is this possible? Thanks.
  15. When I want to run a new search, I use the "Find in Evernote" feature (Win + Shift + F). It used to be very powerful in version 4.7. Regardless of what program I was using, it would jump over to Evernote, clear past search terms from the search area, select all notebooks, and position my icon in the search area. But now, when I use "Find in Evernote", a new drop-down screen appears and blocks the view of my notes. http://www.evernote.com/shard/s2/sh/dcf4b3d4-8ca7-40cc-9553-53f08efe923e/e59a76b0c82efe5c32c3a3099da92e67 Is there a way to turn this new feature off? (not temporarily, but permanently) Using version 5.1.02217 (270217) Public
  16. i visited other posts on this topic, and there were many solutions - none of which worked for me. however, after much frustration, my files were found in the trash. if you're having this problem, try this!!!!!!!
  17. I have EN 4.6.7.8394 (just installed this morning) and noticed it isn't consistently finding (or showing rather), text in a note when you press CTRL-F to find it. In one note that is just an email, pressing CTRL-F then the search term works as expected - it highlights the word and scrolls to the first occurrence. In another note that is a bullet point list created within Evernote (years ago, it just gets appended to manually), it finds the search term and highlights, but does not scroll to it.You have to manually scroll. I know the prev. version worked fine because I use this note multiple times a week to look up GL codes. If you need me to export the note and send it somewhere, I can.
  18. If I know the note link, is there any way in Evernote to find that note? I could paste it in Excel as a URL or some other way, but it would seem to me I should be able to search in Evernote and find it. This is on Windows.
  19. I've created an Applescript to export all the PDFs I have in an EN notebook to an archive folder on my Mac. I've got it working for all the existing notes I have, but as I add new ones, I want it to archive those as well with an Applescript that would run once a day. The problem is in determining what notes are new. I can't simply archive everything with today or yesterdays creation date since I modify the creation date of notes I add (eg when I add a receipt, I change the creation date of the note to match the one on the receipt). A few things I considered include: Having the script add an "Archived" tag to each note after it exports the PDF, but then finding new notes would require the ability to search for all notes that DON'T have the "Archived" tag, and I can't see how to do that. If I used the "Archived" tag option, I also considered finding every note in the notebook, then finding every note with the "Archived" tag, then comparing the two lists and returning the differences, which should be every note that doesn't have the "Archived" tag, but my Applescript skills don't seem to be up to the task (I'm a "copy and paste" programmer, but learning). I could of course manually add a tag to every note I create, and then have the script remove it after an export, but that leaves too much room for user error. Anyone have suggestions on how to accomplish my task?
  20. I have the new 5.0 Evernote for Mac and there is a bug that is absolutely maddening to me. When I am in a note and I hit "command-f" to "find within the note itself" it works fine. Focus is brought to the search/find box and I can type a phrase and the search will happen. I can keep hitting enter to go to the next place within the actual note that the search phrase is found. Now - If I have found the proper spot in my note by searching and I click within the note itself to type, copy, paste, scroll, review, etc....the search/find box looses focus (as one would expect). Here is where things go terribly wrong. Now if I want to search again for another phrase and I hit "command-f" nothing happens! I am still in the note. Focus will not return to the search/find box. I have to manually click on the search/find box to re-search. This is something that has changed with the 5.0 version. Previously whenever you hit command-f it would immediately return focus to the find/search box no matter what. This functionality is something I use quite frequently as I have huge notes for studying and frequently bounce around within a specific note. Can this be fixed?
