  1. There appears to be a bug in Searching for Attachments in EN Mac 3.2.0 Beta 2. When I use the UI to search for attachments (Attributes > Contains > Attachments) it returns 152 Notes. When I use the Search expression "resource:application/pdf" it returns 250 Notes. How can this be? Prior to both searches I clicked on "All Notes" to ensure that no other filters were active. EDIT: This appears to be a general Search engine issue. I get the same results when I search using the EN Web client.
  2. Evernote Mac: Ver 3.3.0 vs Ver 5.x I have been using both versions since the initial release of Ver 5.0.0 on Nov 15, 2012: Ver 3.3.0 on my main production MacBook Air (Lion) Ver 5.x on my test MacBook Air (Lion and Mt. Lion) Based on the Ver 5 Betas I knew I did NOT want to use Ver 5 on my main production Mac, but I did want to test it out. So, after over 2 months of use of both, I wanted to report on my experience. Here are my main conclusions: Ver 3 has contined to serve me very well I have not found any new features in Ver 5 that I really wish I had in Ver 3. I have not found any compelling reason to upgrade my main production Mac to Ver 5. Even after using it for 2 months, I find Ver 5 harder to use than Ver 3 I have not seen any benefits to the new UI of Ver 5 In spite of Evernote's claim that Ver 5 is "cleaner and less cluttered", I do not see that I find the UI of Ver 3 much more user-friendly and it actually makes my workflow much easier than Ver 5 Each release of Ver 5 has had a large number of bugs, many more that with the Ver 3 and prior releases. In summary, I much prefer Ver 3 even though I have been using Ver 5 daily for over 2 months. Based on the large number of users with a wide variety of workflows and computer skill that have strongly complained about Ver 5, I would guess there are a large percentage of users who also prefer Ver 3 over Ver 5. The negative Ver 5 posts in these forums have come from both long-time forum members, but also many, many users who are very new to the forum. IMO, when you get a large number of first-time posters who go to all the trouble to subscribe to this forum in order to post negative posts about Ver 5 you should be very concerned.
  3. About a week ago, Evernote announced new versions of EN Mac and EN Win with new sharing features: Evernote Sharing Improvements: New Design, Permissions and Re-sharing I still don't see any updates available when I go to Evernote > Check for Updates. I'm currently running EN Mac 3.3.0. When will this new version (3.3.1 ?) be available?
  4. BUG: EN Mac 3.3.0 inTitle Search Fails When I enter "intitle:gold intitle:silver" (without the quotes) into the Search block, it CHANGES what I typed to "intitle:gold in title:silver". In case you didn't notice, Evernote ADDED a SPACE after "in" in the second "intitle:" operator. I tried this several times, and it is very repeatable. I wasted about 30 minutes trying to figure out why the search was failing. I knew I had many matching notes, but it was returning none. The SMALL space between "in" and "title" is NOT very noticeable on the EN Mac screen. Of course this causes the search to fail. This is a MAJOR issue. Don't you guys test your code anymore??? This is a very OBVIOUS BUG. It is getting to the point that I no longer trust Evernote. Please put this bug fix at the TOP of your priority list for the next version. In addition, searching has now become very, very slow due to the incremental search that runs the search after every character I type. This is just stupid. Please, please, give us an option to turn OFF incremental searching. Environment: EN Mac 3.3.0 Mac OS X 10.7.4
  5. There appears to be a bug in the "Save Attachments" feature. It does NOT Save All Attachments. Steps to reproduce bug: Click "All Notes" to remove all filters Using the UI, click Attributes > Contains > Attachments 152 Notes are found [*]Click "Save Attachments" on the Multi-Note UI displayed in the Note contents panel [*]Select folder and click OK [*]Select this folder in the Mac Finder ONLY 64 files are found. Obviously, I expected to find at least as many files as I had Notes that contained attachments (152). In the above steps I had sorted the Notes by Created Date (ascending), which resulted in 64 files in my Mac folder. I repeated these steps, but sorted by Created Date (descending) prior to saving. This resulted in 72 files in my Mac folder, which were largely different files. EDIT: Add my environment: EN Mac 3.2.0 Beta 2 Mac OS X 10.7.4 MacBook Air 13-in 2011
  6. On Friday, June 1, 2012, Apple started enforcing the Sandboxing requirement on all new and significantly updated apps submitted to the Apple Mac App Store. What is the impact of this on EN Mac? Here are a couple of articles that explain/address Sandboxing: Sandboxing strengthens the case for buying direct Sandboxing deadline arrives: What it means for Apple, developers, and you Developers (like Evernote) will now have to make a choice of selling their apps direct (via their own web site) or through the Apple Mac Store. Quote from the first article:
  7. Evidently the Evernote EMail process does NOT properly use the Note font, or the default Note font, when sending the Note via EMail. When I send a Note via EMail where the Note text uses my default Note font (Verdana, 14pt), the EMail is sent using Arial 12 pt. I suspect that the underlying HTML for my note does NOT specify a font or size. When displayed in Evernote, it uses CSS or equivalent to display the text using my default font/size. However, when sent via email the HTML does NOT include the font/size, so some other default is used (maybe the recipients email app). What I expect to happen is for Evernote to embed my default font/size in the email so that everyone who receives the email will receive it with the same font/size I view in Evernote Mac.
  8. I am unable to assign more than one Tag to a multiple selection in EN Mac Version 3.1.1 (248775). First, could you please post detailed instructions on how to assign multiple tags using the Multi-Select UI. I expect that it would work just like assigning tags in the Note Tags field, but it does not. When I start typing the first tag, it behaves like the normal assign tags, with EN providing an autocomplete, drop-down list of matching tags. After I hit ENTER to select/assign the tag and I start typing the 2nd tag, it starts behaving badly: No autocomplete No dropdown list Each character I type is shown twice Questions about Assigning Tags via the Multi-select UI What tags are initially displayed? How do I unassign tags to the selection? After I start typing/assigning tags, how do I cancel? I really don't like the way the Multi-select Assign Tags works. I much prefer the original method provided in En Win via the Assign Tags dialog (CTR+ALT+T) Sorry to say I told you so, but after all this effort on the Multi-Select UI that is a duplicate of right-click, it still doesn't work and is still draining resources. IMO it would have been much better to simply implement the EN Win Assign Tags dialog since you already had the design and implementation details. All you needed to do is adapt it to the Mac.
  9. The AutoComplete behavior of the Tag dropdown on the Favorites Bar in EN Mac 3.0.7 Beta 5 is unexpected, not helpful, and inconsistent with the AutoComplete in the Tags section on the Note. The AutoComplete on the Fav Bar searches for the first occurrence of a Tag that CONTAINS the characters that are typed. The AutoComplete on the Note searches for the first occurrence of a Tag the BEGINS with the characters that are typed. For Example, suppose I have the following Tags: Announcement Evernote EN.Mac EN.Win When I am adding Tags to a Note, and I type "en" it displays a dropdown list starting with "EN.Mac", which is exactly what I would expect. But when I type "en" into the Fav Bar Tag filter, it first selects "Announcement", which is unexpected. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: As I type into the Tag filter on the Fav Bar, it will search/select the first Tag that BEGINS with the characters that I type. While this would be only a minor inconvenience if you have a few tags, when you have more than about 20 (I have around 200), it is a major problem since you may not even be able to see the Tag of interest without scrolling. I think it is fair to say that very few people would be looking for a Tag by typing character in the middle of the Tag name. IMO, the most intuitive behavior is the same that is used on the Note Tags field. I'm not sure if the same issue exists in EN Win. But if it does, please change both EN Mac and EN Win to behave as I describe above under "Expected Behavior". Thanks.
