  1. Bug: Text formatting in Web App

Side Note: I have a basic account. From everything I've read, it seems that this means I don't have the ability to report bugs. I think you should reconsider that. I understand not wanting to provide customer support to free people as that costs money, but at least make it easy for people to help better your product by alerting you of bugs. A bug reported by a free person helps your paid customers as well. The issue: When editing on the web editor, if you have the font settings all normal (Gotham 14) and you copy/paste a line of text, the pasted text will look fine on your web app, but smaller than the rest of the text on your iPad app. Looking at the inspector in Chrome, the problem seems to be that if you're using the default font size of 14px, all of the span tags actually have no font size declared, but if you paste in text that was 14px, you'll now have a `font-size: 14px;` style on the span. This text actually renders small on the iPad. Maybe this means that the iPad's default font size is more like 16px? I don't know. But, the difference seems to be this extra inline CSS rule. Since there's already a `font-size: 14px;` CSS rule on `#en-note`, this difference is not visible in the web editor. The only fix seems to be highlighting all of your text and re-setting the font size. It's especially annoying when you're wanting to re-order a lot of text in a note.
  3. Why not to accept EPUB as a exchange format? Even more, why not use EPUB as the real format for all system? It is time to assume that Evernote is not an notetaking-App, is a online-white-paper-App. We are who decide if we are writing a short or long text, temporal or permanent, personal or public and son on. In both cases, we will need formatting tools to create this text, this writing. For many, Evernote is the updated version of windows notepad-app for this 21st century, but we need more than that app. Doing this you will have the solution for many questions: - Title, headings, subheadings: great to write more than two lines of text! - Style format (colours, fonts): avoiding untidy notes - Tablet of content/index: navigability trough large and dense notes - Export/import option as EPUB: rather than ENEX format or HTML files - Storage option: any place as one file, that is EPUB - Online minimalist EPUB editor: simply text without see any html code - No printers, no paper: users just need and want digital content So finally, Evernote will be a huge online place where you can start with a minimum note of one line. Then, you can go far adding more text and contents, creating a report, a diary. Even, completing a novel or a thesis by parts or doing all in one place. Then, if someone need further publishing software, there are many applications (Indesing, QuarkPress, etc). All of them ready to create printings and more developed solutions for experts. Nowadays, for real digital life, nobody needs a old fashion formats like DOC or PDF, which are prepared to be "printed" in a paper or in a screen. For many of us, with a Evernote is more than enough. Google knows it. They have GoogleDocs that in fact is an editor of super-html, that is, EPUB. There you can download it in EPUB format (however you cannot upload EPUB to there...). Even Evernote already knows this, because in fact, ENEX format is a kind of compressed html, that is again, a kind of EPUB format.
  4. I wish I could put something besides a check mark in a checkbox. For example, a minus sign, perhaps to indicate "I don't intend to do anything about this right now but I want to keep it alive." Suggested UI: right-click on the checkbox and select from a pop-up list of characters. Besides a minus sign, how about asterisk, and digits 0-9 to indicate priority? Extra credit: add your own characters to the list. Double extra credit: be able to sort notes by the contents of the checkbox (so, for example, all the priority 9 items go to the top of the list).
  5. As much as you can change the default font and size, I think it would add a lot of functionality and customisation potential to the Evernote editor if you could change more defaults. Some that come to mind, Default font type and size for code blocks Default highlighter colour (linked to this idea)
  6. Hey Evernote Team Firstly, Love the app. Have been a fan for years and have done multiple ECL talks to promote the product. I'm invested in your success. More power to you! Now for the feedback: If you compare Evernote to basically every other text editor (Ulysses, Bear, OneNote, Dropbox Paper, Google Docs, Medium) you have an inferior editor experience, as well as, a less-modern UI. As it stands - in terms of note taking - Evernote is only a little better than Apple Notes and the UI feels stale on both macOS and Windows - slow clap for the amazing work that you have done on iOS and Android. The perfect Evernote would be a combination of Ulysses' editor experience, Bear's crispy UI, OneNote's colourful folders (LOVE this), DropBox Paper's/Medium's Image organisation (Oh my goodness it's perfect), Google Doc's team collaboration and the good old search and sync that Evernote is famous for. Please, copy, steal, borrow! Whatever it takes! This is achievable. P.S. the way that Evernote handles PDF's also needs work. The way they sit inside notes is just... off. For example in the iOS app, they sit in this random little rounded rectangle taking up a third of the note. A PDF editor like PDF Expert does a superior job of editing. Yours Truly Jonathan
  7. This extension is much like the Sublime Text one.
  8. The new Code Block feature is great! I use it a lot. Here are a couple things that would make it even greater: Convert smart quotes into straight quotes. I copy code snippets from websites, and when I later try to use them, I'm often told that there are "illegal characters" in the code, which turn out to be smart quotes. AFAIK, programming editors don't deal well with these. I recommend that when creating a code block, any "smart" quotes (and apostrophes) be converted into their plain equivalents. Maybe filter out other non-ASCII characters, or at least flag them so we can deal with them before they cause trouble. A common technique is to display them as a question mark inside a diamond. Allow "in-line" code formatting. Many programmer-oriented websites (like StackOverflow) display any text enclosed by backtick characters (`) with code styling. It would be great if Evernote could do this, too.

  11. Will there ever be a feature that would let us fully format a note? Like an HTML editor alongside the WYSIWYG. I've been trying to get into Evernote for months but always end up backing away because formatting is a pain. I've been using the web version of Evernote to format articles saved using the web clipper. Browser's Element Inspector works surprisingly well for trying to get those elements to line up right and removing whitespaces because you have to admit, almost all (if not all) articles saved using the web clipper ends up having awful whitespaces and misaligned texts. And even that is still a pain. Forget the fact that we have to deal with the Element Inspector. Lots of times the web version would refresh and would save multiple copies of the same article I'm formatting. So yeah, I was wondering if this would ever be a thing?
  12. Heading 1, Heading 2 etc

New premium user here. Realized that standardize formatting headings are missing and was surprised. Makes formatting much easier. I want to think about my content, not remember if I manually made the previous heading a 12, 14, or 18. (Please let me know if I'm missing something!)
  13. Open EN-API

Whats about providing an API, instead of trying to implement only a part of great ideas from your customers. So we can build our own features. Because I think, the community has great ideas, but EN is unable to serve them all. An API would be the best compromiss for creating cool things as (only a glimse from my mind): Inline Tags (similar to Google Keep) Inline Anchors / in connection with an Table of Content "real" tables // the current implementation is really buggy Tables with fixed header / footer Tables with summary (calculating Columns) Tables with column sort Tabled with column filter "real" formatting // the the ideas from Confluence as real headlines Additional meta information to an note like a date range special note types Or mark a note as template Excerpts of a note (using the same Template everywhere and get all updates Macros at all / Maybe a Macro Market? An better search UI (at least under Windows / Android) - bec. the current works, but you need to remember all search terms instead of clicking them together Outlining (collapsable list of information) Checkboxes which inherite the state from child checkboxes Different color for Evernote links in comparison to real links (I know you get green links if you drag a note to another, but this does not work with STRG-K Speaking about links - why should we use 3! different shortcuts to edit a link? Why not only STRG+K as all other Win or Web-Apps work Support for Markdown Allow inline HTML Edititing (for advanced users) Allow Inline Videos - An Note is just an HTML - why not support embedded Objects? Preview of attached Office Documents / Google Documents - there are a plenty of Viewers available Finding attachements based on the extension (this is already implemented, but in a real limited way - so I need to assign extra tags to find my attachements Support of a global CSS to style your notes ....and many many more - thats just a few of my ideas ... but think about the power of the community....! Don't get me wrong: I really love Evernote and I'm a Premium user since years. But I can't see any development to make things really usefull. Yes: EN 6.* for windows was a huge leap in the right direction, but there are sooo many missing features regarding to the editor - I can referate hours about the pros and cons of EN :-)
  14. The editor in the Windows client needs improvement in a number of areas, specifically, the copy-and-paste functionality with rich text and HTML formatted text. When copying text from Evernote into a MS Word document, formatting is usually way off; and, when copying text from a web page into Evernote, the formatting can be equally poor. Compare this to the seamless and typically excellent copy-and-paste to and from MS Word. For the amount of complaining people do about Word, they really got this and many other things right. There are a number of good to great editor components on the market (I'm a long time Windows and web developer) and they provide this functionality and more. Perhaps it is time to give up the in-house editor solution (if you are developing this functionality in-house).
  15. Can no longer drag text in v. 7.8.2

Prior to the recent Android app update to v. 7.8.2, I could select some text in the note editor and then drag it to a new location. I have to cut and paste. The improvements to the editor introduced in 7.8.2 (brought about by using an embedded version of Chrome for Android, according to this post) unfortunately "disimproved" some features (using the Samsung S-pen and highlighting phone numbers as links to put into the dialer). Apparently this is another one. Has anyone else had this experience?
  16. I used to style text like gif1 shown below in Evernote v5 generation, with the help of AHK. In v6(in fact since v5.9.5.9380 with the improving of note editor), however, I tried, but still cannot make it work like before, like gif2 below show...It always add weird newline... Anyone can help me fix this? or have a better way to highlight and change color of text with one click? Here(L537~L557) is the source code. Really need help, headache for so long time. Thanks!!
  17. I would love to see a style feature that one could select the font, font size, color, and style (bold, italic..) and create these things that would be a default for their titles, topics, examples, articles, citations, definitions, relevant information, etc. People would be able to select it easily from a drop-down menu and the selected text would be of that style. Users would be able to create custom styles; Users would be able to apply the style to all notes using it or just the notes created after the changes happened. Why this should be implemented: Improves speed a lot for those who like to keep a pattern of colors and fonts for different things; Reduces rework if someone wants to change their default font, size, or anything for all their notes. Ex: I want the titles to be bold and to remove all uppercase from then, that would apply to all the notes with that style.
  18. Hello friends, I`m using Evernote Plus and got an issue within the last update. My editor fonts are fuzzy just as the screenshot shows. Windows 10 - AMD Ati Radeon 6200 (Video card - last drivers form AMD 15.12) Already tried the DPI fix in compatibility and also have a Dell notebook, with Windows 10 and the same version of Evernote, with no glitches. Thanks in advance
  19. There are folders I always want to sort by date (like invoices) and others I always want to sort by note title (like my literature notes). I would like to be able to save this setting per notebook so that they always come up the way I need them.
  20. I'm on Evernote for Mac Version 6.3 (452832 Direct). Steps to reproduce: Clip this page. Type two dashes and some text at the end of a line of code (pre-formatted text) Watch the pre-formatting go away even in parts of the note I did not touch. I also found the reason. In the original note, code formatting was achieved with a <code> tag. When I typed the dashes, the editor wraps that tag around a <span> tag, which causes HTML rendering engines (both Chrome and the Evernote editor itself) to stop rendering that block of text as pre-formatted. I can see why losing the pre-formatting is necessary when the text is highlighted, because Evernote notes are backed by HTML and HTML doesn’t have a way to display text that's both preformatted and highlighted. But why did editing one place cause all text in other places that's wrapped in the same HTML tag to also change? Perhaps the backend is using an XML/HTML selector that’s selecting too many elements when it should only select one? And then, perhaps there’s an event listener that listens to changes to elements matching that selector and wraps the changed text in a <span> tag? (That seems plausible to me because the new “unified experience" editor is supposedly JavaScript-powered now.) In that case, this wouldn’t just be an obscure bug that’s only triggered when someone types two dashes (or a number and a dot, like "1.") in a code block - it’d be at least a medium-impact bug that’s triggered whenever that event listener is triggered and causes destructive changes that are difficult to notice and difficult to undo if not noticed promptly.
  21. The Evernote Editor

Hey everyone, This is P.J. from the Product Team at Evernote. I wanted to take a moment to tell you about a project that we've been working on for quite a while. Though to date, we have introduced a relatively small number of new features to the editor, we've laid a foundation that will allow us to significantly improve note editing in Evernote. Years of writing the editors of our clients independently of one another has taken a toll on the the consistency and quality of Evernote’s editing experience. We recognize this and we’re fully committed to making it better. We’ve created a dedicated team focused on improving the note editor and we’re hoping you notice the difference. In the coming weeks and months, you’ll start to see the fruits of this labor appear in all of the things you do to create notes in Evernote—typing, bullets and lists, tables, images, copy and pasting are just a few of the things we’ll be working on to start. Bigger improvements will follow. For more on the thinking behind this project, check out this blog post. We can’t promise to get everything right the first time, but we can promise to listen to your feedback and work tirelessly to make every version of Evernote’s editor better than the last. If you have feedback on the editor, we’re here to listen. Feel free to comment on this thread or DM me. Thanks!
  22. I just found this AlterNote Editor Chrome Extension, and it's a better WYSIWYG than the Evernote Web Editor at this time. And it's free. No idea if it's related to Alternote for Mac: Features I like: - does NOT need to be granted access to your Evernote account - as far as I can tell, all processing is done in your browser, without a third party server involved - fairly powerful text editing capabilities (WordPad like) - resize images (and even rotate) - can paste images from clipboard (but they will be lost if you edit the note in Evernote, so I insert images with the paperclip) - inserts file/image at the cursor (not at the end of the note) - view and change source code - handles tables decently well - highlight text - check-boxes and special characters - footnotes - keyboard shortcuts (no more clicking around to insert an attachment) - can change default font and font size - remove all text formatting - add-last-line keyboard shortcut (really useful in long notes) Problems: - you have to be a bit careful, as it's easy to create unwanted new notes or duplicates, especially if you use autosave (I just create new notes in Evernote Web and then edit them with AlterNote; I also have Clicking on AlterNote's toolbar icon when not on Evernote's webpage set to Open Search Page) - it doesn't save searches - you will lose images if you paste them from clipboard (more Evernote's fault, as it just removes them if you edit the note) - there seems to be just one guy developing it. Is it secure? Will development continue? Attached is a quick test, along with the result in Evernote Web:
  23. It would be really awesome if you could take simple notes with quick, quip-like formatting. The current editor is really heavy and slow to use since most of my use cases are simple and quick note taking, not producing heavily formatted Word-like documents. Basic and consistent header formats like H1 H2 H3, etc.
  24. When I search for text within a note, Evernote helpfully tells me how many occurrences of the text it found. But, maddeningly, it doesn't tell me which occurrence is currently highlighted! I wish it behaved like some programs, which highlight all found occurrences in one color, except for the currently selected occurrence, which is highlighted in a different color. Clicking the "forward" and "backward" arrows should highlight the following or preceding occurrence, and change the number appropriately. On the search line, instead of saying just "27 matches", it should say "Match 11 of 27". It is very frustrating to see a found occurrence and have no idea whether it is near the beginning or the end of the note (and yes, I know the scroll bar gives some indication, but you can do better). I'm aware that many other programs behave the same way that Evernote currently does. But this is an annoyance wherever it occurs!
  25. Simplifying formatting bug?

I am obsessed with the function "simplify formatting." However, after updating to 6.0.6, I don't know why it split each line by ":,)" automatically. Here is the link showing the example before and after simplifying formatting. I have known that, for solving the problem, I can paste it to text editor than paste it back to evernote. However, it is very inconvenient. And it happened since current update. Hope to receive any solution or good news.
