  1. Help! My cat loves sitting on my laptop when im not around. He managed to select a large portion of the note and clicked random keys thus deleting a huge chunk. Problem is, I didnt realise that was my huge note until after I had closed and re-opened evernote the next day. So undo is not an option. If i sign up to premium, will i have access to View History for notes edited prior to signing up?? I have been working on this note for close to a month so its possible that previously saved versions exist - maybe? (I tried finding an older version in Finder in the folder entitled com.evernote.Evernote but it only opened the same 90% deleted version)
  2. Hi, I'm just starting with Evernote and, in 3 hours, I've been facing several bugs. Last one, quite confusing, is about losing the content of a note just after writing it on my iPhone! The content of this note that I wrote was erased, just magically, by the content of a note that I "clipped" earlier with Evernote Web Clipper. Here is what happen : First, I created my note "A" on my Windows Desktop Evernote. The sync went well. 15 minutes later I continued to edit this note "A" on my smartphone. When I was over, I closed the note "A". Still on my smartphone, I was seeing the main interface containing the list of all my notes including, in the first position, the one I had just edited. A few seconds later, I've got a new idea that I wanted to add to my note "A". So, I edited the note ... And, the content of the note "A" was not at all what I had just edited! The content of the note "A" was erased by the content of a note "B" that I added by Evernote Web Clipper an hour earlier ! I couldn't believe it... So, I closed the note, seeing again the main interface containing the list of all my notes including, still in the first position, the one I had just edited. The title was correct and the preview (first two sentences) was also correct. But when I opened it again, the content was not the one that I just previewed and that I wrote earlier! I closed the note again, but this time, the preview was also updated with the new non-desired content Here are some complementary information perhaps useful for diagnostic / debugging : The note "B" still exists by its own. The two notes were and still are in the same notebook and have the same tag. The titles of the two notes were different and are still different. Only the content of the note "A" has been erased. Neither the title nor the URL source were copied. The pictures from the web page contained in the note "B" were not copied when erasing content of the note "A" The website clipped for note "B" was : https://help.evernote.com/hc/fr/articles/209004767-Comment-capturer-des-idées-avec-votre-smartphone Configuration : Desktop : Windows 10 : Evernote 6.5.4.4720 Web clipped extension installed on Chrome 60.0.3112.90 Smartphone : iPhone 6 with IoS 10.3.2 Can it be related to the problem described since 2014 in this threat (still unresolved!) : PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED before I quit using Evernote... I can not using a product so unstable. Or is it a way perhaps to convince customer to buy the "Premium" option to get the the history feature... Best regards, Alex PS. Hope my English will be understandable...
  3. I usually use an Evernote Basic account from my iPhone, but recently accessed the account from the web (Windows, Chrome). I was having issues loading a particular note (only the first bit of content was present), and on refresh I continued to have the issue. I accessed the note on my phone to see the same issue, and eventually realized that the large majority of my content in this note was completely deleted. In searching the Evernote support pages, the closest help I came across was https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208314448, which requested I "Select 'Report data loss' in the 'What can we help with?' field on the support ticket form," an option which doesn't exist. It and other pages suggested getting an Activity Log, which I was unfortunately unable to figure out from the web platform, or checking the version history, which I do not have access to as a Evernote Basic user. Can anyone recommend a path forward? The content I lost is one of the most important running documents I have (started last April) and I would be seriously set back by losing all of this information.
  4. I've been bringing my iPad with my Evernote app to meetings these past few weeks, but I'm encountering a serious issue in which none of my notes appear to be saving. Steps to reproduce: Hit the + symbol on the top-right. Type in the note's title + content. Hit Save. The note goes away and does not appear to be saved. When I tried to reproduce this on my iPhone, the note successfully saved. I've even deleted the app from my iPad and reinstalled it, but the same problem still persists. Because of this, notes that I'm entering just disappear into the void. This is a serious data loss issue for me. Any ideas how I might be able to troubleshoot this? I'm using iOS 9.3.3.
  5. Hello I had to have my iPhone replaced due to a problem with the touchscreen. The old phone had to be destroyed to get the new one. On my new device I could not find all my notes anymore. So I followed all the trouble shooting instructions according to the Evernote help website. Still, everything lost! (I could not find any of my files on Evernote web as well). Is there anyone who can help me? Thank you very much in advance!
  6. I just updated my phone to iOS 10 and installed EN v7.17.1. The app works well if I open notes the conventional way through the app. However, when I tried to access a note by 3D pressing the EN icon then through the widget I didn't realize it at the time, but it opened EN's local version of the note. When I synced I had effectively overwritten the latest version of the note that I synced from my mac. To clarify again, I edited a note on my mac, then opened the same note on my phone through deep pressing the app. After syncing the note on my phone, I found that I lost the work I did on my computer. I couldn't figure out how to submit a ticket, I hope this is the right place. Thanks in advance.
  7. Today my note claimed it needed to clear formatting and when i selected that option, my entire note is gone, empty with only the title left? Any idea how I can get the content back? Would upgrading to premium gets my content back? It is hell to try to get into email support and I looked and looked in the android support page which keeps referring me back to the same support page. I only got the support after doing google search and have to be done in my laptop. Why is it so difficult to get hold of support? is it, in a way, discrimination against free users? support ticket #180281
  8. I have been building an EN note containing text and photos for some months. I have just discovered that all but the sentence added this morning is gone. Many photos are still there, but I cannot easily assess whether any have been lost. I cannot find the text in the Trash or in other notes. 1. if my data might only be temporarily lost, are there steps that I can take to prevent their becoming permanently lost? 2. if it might be possible to recover my data, what they are? (I mirrored my HDD using Win 7's resident backup facility a few days ago.) 3. how can I prevent this happening in the future? I would be grateful either for direct answers to any of the above, or for links to answers. Thank you.
  9. Dear Evernote, I like your app, and using it extensively and was about to become premium. so far I was using Penultimate only locally on my iPad. Last week I had to make a backup restore to my iPad and all of my notes in penultimate went blank. I see the circle of notebooks, even all the notes, however with a bank front page and not able to open any of them. I have not sync them into evernote yet, as I just wanted to become a premium member. I tried all potential solutions, several backup restore of my iPad in various ways. I read the before iPad 8.3 it was possible to access the data related to an app. I see on my iPad the 140 MB of documents and data, however it is not working in the app. Please help!
  10. Hi, I have an issue with my web clipper. I was using the web clipper to take notes on a film for a paper I'm writing. In addition to text, these notes also included a lot of screen captures that I made by pausing my film and pressing "Clip rectangle or window" to take a screenshot. All of the screen captures were displayed in the web clipper before I pressed "Save to Evernote." After saving my notes to evernote, I went to reread them on my evernote Mac App. None of the screen captures were displayed: "en_attachment" appeared in their place. The same thing happened on evernote.com: I couldn't view my images. When I clicked 'info' on my note, I realized its size was way over the alotted 4 MB (it is 26KB). Is there any way to get the data back? Can I still get my original note (the way it was before I pressed 'save')? I'd be willing to pay premium membership to access those screen captures. Thanks!
  11. I am having increasing issues with Evernote of late. Tags are lost now and then. Then an important attachment to a post inexplicable vanished. (Fortunately, I had a slightly older copy of it lying around elsewhere. But it did spur me to begin deloading all my documents from Evernote to OneDrive). Then this sync happened. See the attached image comparing the web and Windows desktop version. 1) One post from the "Articles" notebook is inexplicably missing. 2) At least one tag is again missing ("6-Aspirational" from underneath ".1 - Schedule"). Since this isn't the first time a tag has vanished, I suspect this isn't the only one. 3) The order and structure of the notebook arrangement is completely different! Naturally, I have opened a support ticket. But since I've seen numerous complaints of customer service taking a long time to reply back, I would appreciate feedback here as to whether I can do anything about this. I have the latest version and made a copy of the Activity Log. PS. On a more general note: Note that I am, or at least was, a big fan of Evernote. I am a paying subscriber, and I even wrote a blog post about productivity featuring it. But for all its cool features, data integrity and sync must remain the number one, two, and three prioritities. Even as Evernote continues introducing more and more features, many of them of questionable efficacy (anyone actually use work chat?), old requests go unanswered (e.g. custom sorting for notebooks), and far more disturbingly, more and more reports appear of serious data integrity issues - reports the truth of which I have myself begun to encounter in force this past month. There are some things that Evernote does really well and I would not want to lose: The specific system of notebooks, tags, and shortcuts; the powerful search; the web clipping. It would be really hard to find a good replacement that can serve simultaneously as a diary, a GTD infrastructure, a creative space, and a repository for clipped articles and other information. But if things don't turn around for the better, I will be eventually be forced to seek an alternative.
  12. It continues to baffle me that Evernote would allow people to auto-update to the data losing version 6.0 from the App Store. Correct me if I'm wrong but they should be able to reject the bug-ridden binary and revert to a previous version. They have kept it for **ten days** now. Enjoying the one-star reviews so much? Data safety is supposed to be one of Evernote's "Three Laws of Data Protection": http://blog.evernote.com/blog/2011/03/24/three-laws-of-data-protection/ But apparently they don't really mean it?
  13. I teach using Evernote, and two students had the same problem with disappearing notes today in our computer lab. (I've searched the forum for this exact problem, and while there are many disappearing notes posts, none seemed exactly the same.) As far as I can tell, both students did the same thing: At home, they added new notes through a web browser (Firefox for one, Safari for the other). There was no problem, and the auto-syncing of using web notes seemed to work. When they came to class, they logged into their accounts through Internet Explorer in the computer lab on Windows 7 PCs in the lab. They each found that one of their notes (I believe the newest one?) was still there, with the title intact, but with the content erased. When they added a new note in class, the same thing happened again: the previous note's title remained, but its content suddenly disappeared. These were both in folders they had shared with me, so I logged in through both the desktop client (Windows 7) and web client to check, and what I saw echoed what they saw on their screens: notes remaining with missing content. Any advice?
  14. I used to use Evernote on my phone to store entries in my dream journal (to help with lucid dreaming) and I recently had to do a factory reset but thought that my notes would be safe. After I found out that not a single note since February 2013 had been synced. I found that they still seem to be stored on the sd-card in a html-format. Is there any way to get them back into Evernote? I have read a few threads about similar problems but have not found any answers.
  15. There is a bug that causes data loss when editing a note with unsupported formatting. [update on july 27] I believe the bug stems from the first time a note with unsupported formatting gets edited it is being cached on the device. From that point forward it does not get updated when synced even though the "read only" view does get updated. Testing Environment Evernote for Android Build 20, Version 4.1(public) Evernote for Windows 4.5.8.7720 (267728) Evernote Web Client Problem From the Windows client create a note with the word test and a Divider Line below it, then sync. Sync the Android client and open the note. Click Edit the immediately click Done. (Android will say "Note not changed") Edit the note in Windows, add the word test under the divider line, and sync. Sync the Android client and open the note. It shows the most recent version from step 4. Click edit and the original version, from step 1, will pop up for editing. If you don't notice and edit anyway the changes overwrite the note from step 3. I've reproduced the problem using Windows & Android and Web Client & Android. I don't have a Mac but I'm guessing this is purely an Android issue. Until this is fixed there is only one way to proceed: - Use unsafe formatting in notes that will never be edited on Android. - Avoid unsafe formatting for notes that require Android editing. For Android editable notes that avoid data loss stay away from the following "Unsafe to Use" formatting. Unsafe to Use Indented checkboxes Attachments Divider line Tables Hyperlinks Safe to Use Non-indented checkboxes Any text formatting Bullets (indented or not) Audio Special Case Text Aligning Alignment; left, center, right, justify, does not cause the unsupported format issue and shows up correctly when viewing a note on Android. However, the alignment is forced back to Left Justify when editing the note with no way to change it. Hopefully this will help others. It was driving me crazy when trying to track workouts. If you notice anything different than what's described please post. I'll keep this post updated as more information is available.
  16. Hi everyone, Some bad news for me and some of your trying to recover lost notes. I had a days worth of unsynced notes on the my iPhone which were deleted when the password reset was activated. After dealing with premium support for several days this is the message I received today: I'm not happy with this at all and as a paying customer I will be seeking redress. What is clear now is that Evernote for no reason what-so-ever remote wiped Evernote on user's iPhone with no warning or notification to allow users to copy their data. I would not have minded having to copy-paste unsynced notes across before resetting the account but no opportunity was given. I feel extra sorry for those who have never synced their notes... deleting users data is just the worse thing Evernote could have ever done.
  17. I have a note that I use as a workout log. This means that I update the same note many times per week, sometimes from my computer (windows client) other times from my android phone (at the gym). I noticed that the first time I edited the note from the phone, it worked as expected. On subsequent days, after making edits from the windows client, I sync'ed my phone and the note displays correctly (up to date) in read mode. However, once I enter edit mode on the phone it shows me an old version of the note. There is nothing I can do to update it. Worst still, I didn't notice the first time that this happened and I ended up saving the note so that I lost a bunch of data. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there something I can do to update my note in edit mode? Seems like a pretty bad bug since it leads to data loss if not careful.
