  1. Hello all, I used EN off and on for years for simple typed notes at work, and have just started using it for cataloging various internet content. I have been very pleased with the functionality in MacOS Safari, but am frustrated with the options on iOS. If I try to send something to EN via the Evernote icon on the "share" menu in Safari or the youtube app, the result is essentially garbage. It wouldn't be so bad if it was simply the full webpage, but the formatting is so messed up it's not usable. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I've included screenshots of notes viewed on the PC version that were created on iPhone. The first two screenshots are of an article I clipped on iOS. You can see that the entire first few pages are a bunch of unformatted ads, some stuck in an overlay that I can't remove or alter. This ad overlay goes right over the article text, and I can't see how to remove it. Full clipped pages clipped on desktop don't do this. The third screenshot is of a clipped youtube video. Unlike the nice photo and link you get when clipping on desktop, it again has a big ad overlaid that I can't remove. This is totally useless....is there a better way to do it? Thanks for your help.
  2. Im new to Evernote. Want to use it to clip stuff for a long term project. I have a subscription to the Financial Times. (UK) So I read it on the app on my phone. If I clip an article it just displays a notice suggesting getting a subscription in Evernote. Is this normal with paywalled content? Even though I am accessing it legally. Is there a workaround? Without copying and pasting!
  3. I find it frustrating that local files cannot be clipped using the evernote browser clipping tool. I appreciate it is presumably for security reasons but I think the message that appears when you try to do it does not suggest a recommended work round ie download the file and then import it into evernote for example. Despite knowing the issue I keep stumbling on this and would appreciate if the wording at least could be made more user friendly.
  4. Hi there. One of the things I really want to do with Evernote is save the details of items I buy from EBay or gumtree - the listing reference number ID, listing title, the description, price, seller and all the photos. If I try to export / share from eBay app or gumtree app all I get is the title. Am I missing something obvious or is no one else wanting to capture this kind of thing? I read a post about eBay clippings that have text and thumbnails and ENML but I’m not even sure they were talking about the same thing that I’m trying to figure out. Any help or even a point in the right direction would be awesome.
  5. Is it possible to prevent Evernote App to clip a page that is already clipped? A rival app does have this feature and I hope Evernote can add this useful function to prevent multiple clippings of the same page
  6. The default selection for clipping an article starts at the top and stops somewhere below, sometimes not to the end. That often happens with forum discussions, only the first post is selected (example). The +- buttons expand the selection right/left, not down up. So, is there an existing solution, or should it be a feature request?
  7. I use a large format iPad for much of my reading on the internet. The web clipper as it stands clips the entire page, not well, and makes it difficult, if not impossible, to get back to the webpages from the page in Evernote, as no bookmark/web address is accessible. The formatting is unacceptable/nonexistent. As a result, I have stopped clipping from my iPad. What we need is a clipper like we use on the desktop, which gives us the option of saving an article (with good formatting) or a bookmark, allowing us to return to the page. The bookmark is especially useful for reading lists, shopping pages, etc. If the mobile platform is the way of the future, then the features we have on the desktop need to be available on the mobile device.
  8. I'm using the latest release of Evernote for Windows, but this bug has been around since about 4/20/2017 (coincidence? I clip a lot of guitar chord songs and write poetry, where the spacing among characters is *very* important, since it denotes timing. I use Courier New since it is a Monospaced font. In the last couple of versions, this spacing is no longer maintained in either web clipping (or even just plain copy/paste). Even more important for me is that it is not retained in HTML export (which I then use to create eBooks). These new notes are worthless to me, even after spending way too much time manually putting the spaces back in place. Here's an example original : Am G D/F# So that I can feel ... the rain Clipped, copied or exported: Am G D/F# So that I can feel ... the rain Pretty easy to see the problem here. Please, please, please fix this back to how it used to work? Even in non-music/poetry note spacing can be extremely important (I can't be the only one who has noticed this? All I found in the forum search was about line spacing.) Thank you, John P.S. I tried to Report a bug at https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=176617 several times, but it never gave me a form to fill out
  9. Hello fellow note takers, I could need some input on my note taking strategy. This is what I usually do: See/read something Copy the link and make it the "headline" of a section in a note about a topic – if really important add printed PDF or web clipping Copy important parts of the note as plain text into the note Add my own comments or additional information about THAT section (note: not the whole article, but maybe a paragraph, sentence or particular information) Split with <hr> if closely related The result might look something like this: The thing is: On the one side I don't want notes that look like a flick carpet of fonts and colors* – on the other hand I'd like to be better able to discern between my own notes and the excerpt from the source. What I'm missing would be something like an indented quote formatting. * also this often wouldn't help but look especially strange, if the source is set in Arial/sans-serif, maybe with a different line height etc. This would make the note even more unreadable for my eyes. Currently I use italics. Because it is the fastest way via *Command + I*, for a while I used a mono space font for the source, but this takes quite long (and I always forgot which font I used). Writing directly in the clipping isn't an option for me either 1) because it feels to messy for me (and my experience with the web clipper in general is often horrifying) and more importantly 2) because I really just want the most important highlights of the source in my main note to be able to skim it quickly. Does someone have an idea how I could enhance my strategy here? Is there a, for example, a way to add own formats via hotkeys? I would appreciate any ideas!
  10. I can't seem to find much on this topic, so I apologize if this has been addressed in recent versions. I run in Windows 10 on a lenovo laptop. I'm using 6.6.3.5484 (305494) Prerelease. When I clip a page from the web, frequently it is at total mess. I'm seeing cases where images are lost, formatting might get squashed into one column at the left, links aren't visible--as I said-a total mess. I tried clipping "Article"--bad; I tried clipping "Full page"--bad; I tried clipping "selection" after highlighting--bad. I can use "Simplified article" but I see a lot of cases where that misses content. Any tips here? Two side by side (note, page) screen captures attached.
  11. I often use the Evernote clipper to take a screen clip of part of my screen so I can send it to clients. I open the resulting clip and try to paste into Outlook. When I do that, It shows up as a .png attachment. To embed it in an email message, I have to right click the image and open it in mspaint, then select all and copy it that way. Then I can paste it as an embedded message. Is there a simpler way to do this?
  12. I just selected and clipped some text in my browser. A note was generated in my Evernote for Windows desktop, but something odd happened: the body of the note has zero text, but I can see what I clipped in the thumbnail in List View (snippet or card). I tried the obvious: checked to see if somehow the text was the same color as the background, closed and opened Evernote, synched to my phone app (same issue there), but the problem persists. How would Evernote be sourcing the text information such that it would show in the thumbnail preview but not in the note, even across platforms? And how can I recover the note text in a usable form? I've attached a screen shot for clarity. Thanks...
  13. Hi, With respect to clipping on via the IOS share sheet, I would like the option to just clip the title and URL of a webpage, instead of the whole page. I'm trying to accomplish something similar to the "bookmark" option available on the EN web clipper. Additionally, if it would be possible to also have the option of selecting a snippet of text from the page to be included in the clip, that would be a most welcome bonus. I use EN for my bookmarks so this is something that would be very useful for me, clipping just the title and URL instead of the whole page. Hopefully, this feature is something that would be useful for others as well, so that EN will take it under consideration. Thanks, -- Wolf
  14. Hello, Wouldn't it be great if Evernote could recognise bookmarks and clippings you've already tagged and made notes on?! Also via the Firefox addon button - let's say I'm on a webpage and I've added it as a bookmark to Evernote - but I've forgotten to add a few extra notes after viewing the rest of the webpage. Now, if I click the Firefox button again, it won't recognise that I've already clipped/tagged it and I can't see what I just entered, and can't make any quick amendments to it. So so frustrating... When I click the add-on again, I'd like to be able to make a few more additional notes real quickly, instead of having to go into Evernote and find the note, to make additional notes on that clipping. What else is possible..?! Thanks!
  15. Use Case: As a person looking for a job I wish to clip job postings from Linkedin so that I can capture and share job opportunities. Background: Evernote could be a useful tool capturing and sharing job searches. Today evernote is limited as it does not support clipped from Linkedin job postings. The current functionality is limited only to contact information/user profiles. This limitation is counter intuitive. You expect the function to work across the site. It creates the impression that Linkedin integration does not work as properly.
  16. Is there an easy way to save an article that's been spread across many pages (see Cracked.com, for instance) into a single cohesive note? I can obviously save each page and combine the notes later, but there's no way when you combine notes to specify the order the notes are combined in, so that's even worse, and it's time-consuming. Sites used to have buttons for "view on one page" or "print friendly version" that put everything together, but no one seems to do that anymore. I'm a premium user, Windows 7 & 10, Android phone & tablet. Any ideas appreciated. Miss Bert
  17. Apparently my Ever Note has been updated. I don't think the software engineers at Ever Note understand the difference between an improvement and an impediment. Some of use use Ever Note to clip articles we are simply interested in rather than for some obscure or arcane business purpose. Yesterday when I attempted to clip an article from the NY Times a popup appeared. "You must sign in using the Clip to Ever Note toolbar button before you can make clips." Where the heck is the "Clip to Evernote toolbar button"? Of course "heck" is not the word I would ordinarily use. TO THE SOFTWARE ENGINEERS: For God's sake cut me some slack! If you are going to "improve" your software tell me how to use what you consider the improvements. At age 74 I can barely keep up. When I first began using Evernote eight or nine years ago it was very different i.e. easy to use. I understand that you are now trying to satisfy a different demographic but there are still some of the original users around who long for the older relative simplicity. If you detect a sense of anger in this post, I have succeeded. To Group Users: What does this new message mean and where is the toolbar button they are talking about? THANKS!
  18. Hello, I'd like to have clipping functionality from Postbox. I have seen some posts about it and the instructions which didn't help me get it working. I don't know if it was something that used to be available and isn't any longer? Anyone have a link with helpful instructions? Or care to share the steps on how to get it working? I'm working on Windows 10 x64. Cheers
  19. I have updated the latest version of Evernote, but now when I use the hot key "Win+PrtSc" I only get a screen capture and not the "crosshairs" to select what I want to capture on the screen. I know I can still do this by cicking on the Evernote Helper on the system tray, but why isn't there a hot key for it anymore??? I used this ALL THE TIME and now I can't (except to get a full screen capture.) Very frustrating. Is there any way to assign a hot key for this function now??? Or can this hot key be brought back in a future update maybe??? I love Evernote and use it all the time, and I just don't want to forever lose one of my most frequently used hot keys.
  20. I want to be able to clip/save articles to Evernote while working in Chrome (Windows). I set up the Evernote Web App from the Google Store (what I used to call an extension), but it doesn't show when I'm browsing the web. I simply can't figure out how to tell Chrome to save a given article to my Evernote. It shows in my list of Google Apps, but how do I get it to work from within Chrome? This is very easy to do from my iPhone.
  21. looking to add new tags while clipping with the Evernote Clipper on mobile
  22. When running the latest version of Evernote for Windows desktop version (using Windows 8.1 but I hate the "app" version made just for this OS, so went back to using regular Evernote), I'm seeing a change in regards to the program and the Web Clipper. The WebClipper loads when Windows opens as usual, as I want it to do (I do a lot of clipping from the web). Then, I open Evernote, and use it normally. However, when I then close the program, I get the error message in the subject line. I do not want the WebClipper/clipping functionality to cease just because the program itself is not running. I've always been able to clip without having the program open in the past. If I click OK on that pop up message, the Web Clipper/background clipping operation does indeed close and I can no longer clip anything until I re-open Evernote. If I click Cancel, however, Evernote closes normally BUT the icon in the status tray and the clipper remain open and working. The message is very confusing. Is there a way to disable it? Gayze
  23. Save to Evernote keeps crashing in Outlook
  24. Trying to figure out how to easily clip articles that are segmented into galleries. For example, I want to clip an article for the "Ten Best Cheesecake Recipes" and that article requires that I click on "Next" to move forward through ten slides. Is there a way to clip all ten as part of one article at one time, or do I have to do 10 screenshots and string them together?
  25. Hi folks, I just checked for updates on 4.6.2015 and evernote offered a new update. After trying to download the new update, there was a pop up box that told me that the update might not install correctly and gave me 2 options - to either disable clipping or install a version that was more compatible to my operating system. I do not want to disable clipping - I like clipping - Please tell me what to do here - should I update the program or not? My operating system is win 7 home premium, running ie 11 and firefox 37.0.1. and my current Evernote version is 5.8.5.7193 (275193) Public. What is the story with clipping and the latest update? Thanks, Rob
