  1. hi everyone, i need some advise, i would like to take memos fore several books i'm reading and i want to make myself some note per page, and every note to give tags what would be the most elegant way to do it i think opening a new memo for every note is not so useful...
  2. I've been enjoying the Mac Evernote's ability to view PDFs as inline images (right click a PDF in a note and choose view inline instead of view as attachment). The problem I'm having with Evernote is that when I do a keyword search to find a note most of my results are all the PDF books I've added to my collection. As far as I can tell there is no way to have Evernote skip these notes in my search results. God forbid you add a dictionary PDF to your collection! Is there any way to tell Evernote to skip specific notes, notebooks or filetypes? Any way of filtering out results using keywords? If not please consider adding a feature request for: Note Setting that has a checkmark to EXCLUDE this note from keyword searches beyond the note title. For now I'm going to delete the PDF books I've added. ;( thanks, Stephen
  3. I have an Evernote Notebook called Books to Read. Every time I learn about a book I want to read via a book review on the Internet, I save the review page into the notebook with the Evernote web clipper. When I read the book, I want to mark the book/note as "done," so I don't see it in the Notebook when I look for a new book to read. (I don't want to delete the note because I may want to see which books I've finished later.) This seems like one of the top user scenarios for Evernote, and yet I don't see any way to do this simple task. Am I missing something? How do other people do this? -Hank
  4. I would like to use the Evernote camera to scan in handwritten notes. When it works, it is great, but I have lots of problems. It is extremely sensitive to camera shake and flatness of the image. I am scanning a Moleskin type notebook and the pages are not perfectly flat. It sometimes takes several minutes of fussing to capture a page. And sometimes, it just won't capture it at all. There is no problem just taking a picture, but that doesn't keep the pages in the same notebook or trim them to their edges (and I'm not sure if the OCR works either). I've tried putting them under glass, but this just seems to fool the focus even further. Oh, and the phone camera scanning sucks battery life unbelievably. In just a few minutes of scanning, it drained half of my my battery! Any suggestions?
  5. I'm interested in cataloging all the books in my personal library (well over a thousand books) and keeping that list in Evernote somehow. What would be an easy way to get all those titles into Evernote? Is there a decent barcode scanner that would sync well with Evernote to make the job easier? How do you manage your personal library? Can you recommend a great app that might work with Kindle?
  6. I am new to evernote and so far I am ecstatic about the way I can organize my resources. One of the things I was hoping to do with Evernote was to be able to create a reference library for books. Part of my job is training and providing resources for a number of topics such as; racial reconciliation, team building, leadership, mentorship, poverty, etc. A lot of resources that I have are books. Is there anyway, besides making a new note with just the title and author in it, (it just seems like there should be a more efficient or intuitive way) to put books into Evernote and then tag them with my topics? If yes, how would I do this? If this topic already exists I apologize. I tried to search for it but couldn't find anything. Thank you.
  7. Wouldn't be great have your books uploaded as linked and tagged notes that are accessible when you need them? Well, to me, it would be great!. Without noticing, I have created my "homegrown solution", if I have a PDF of a book or a hard copy, I read it and at the same time I'm creating notes of the book, I tag them, and keep the notes at hand, sometimes I open evernote and quickly browse this notes, and I notice that the knowledge sticks in my mind more.I think that if I invest effort and time in reading a book, other than just enjoying the book, I also want that at least the knowledge is kept in my brain (or in evernote) to be used when I need it. I want to give the book I read more chances to become my reality. I think I'm not alone on this. So I wonder if you guys at Evernote have consider the option of engaging authors and publishers into not only digitalizing the books, but tagging them ans sell them for Evernote users. I imagine a future where I could buy a book as a series of evernote books, and I quickly browse into them, reading and tagging and making my own additional notes.
  8. Instead of using the best workflow app for uploading text to Evernote (Premium), being in a hurry I used my iPhone camera to capture pages from book, and NOW I am trying to figure out the quickest way to get my text (pages from book/research) uploaded to Evernote?? I) Email each page to my Evernote email account, 2) Create new Evernote note and use camera feature within note to upload text to new note...OR....??? I am also wondering which method allows OCR to be done on text uploading? Will a photo of text be treated as a image or will it be processed as text via Evernote Premium OCR upload process? Also, WHICH apps are best for taking photos of text from a book to upload into our research notebooks? Scanning apps that OCR before uploading to Evernote?? I need quick fix to get this project material uploaded to my Evernote Research Notebook. And also to retrieve the other mounds of research I did using my iPhone camera app, photos of book pages I need to also upload to Evernote to include in my other research notebooks. I am definitely trying to establish a much better workflow for uploading research camera text photos into Evernote. Greatly appreciate the help on this!!
  9. I have about 40 cookbooks in PDF/MOBI/EPUB formats and I would like to have the information from each book in Evernote in a formal to which I can input keywords and the actual result in Evernote is a page from the cookbook I have uploaded. The goal would be I could look up for example "lamb" and the results would be pages from all of my cookbooks where lamb is a part of the recipe. I am thinking I need to convert each individual page to JPG format and then upload. Is this the only solution? In addition, if the only solution is a JPG file for each page of the book, can anyone recommend a program to automatically handle this conversion? To me, this is the kind of second brain kind of work I am looking for from Evernote. Many thanks for anyone that can help me turn this dream into reality! ; )
  10. Hello, It's quite a while since I've not used Evernote. Main reason is that I really have a huge ammount of stuff to read for a PhD research, and Evernote did not seem so efficient to record bibliographical data (authors, page, titles, tags and topics...). I heard that some kind of plugins exist for these specific needs. However, I did not find any. I may not have the right keywords on Google as I find much more books about Evernote, than taking notes about books... Would you have some plugins names to share with me? Thanks!
  11. Hello! I am looking for Evernote book recommendations as well as any suggestions/insight/thoughts and other resources that might be useful to an Evernote hoarder who's ready to make a change.Just when had given up on becoming an organized and productive member of society, Evernote came into my life and renewed my hope. I'm so close . . . ... and yet so far! Truth be told, I'm starting to flounder and I need an intervention before my bad habits take over and ruin what could have been a beautiful relationship. The notebooks are piling up. It's starting to feel like a special edition of Hoarders. My episode of Evernote: Buried Alive deals with several issues. I constantly create new notebooks because I've forgotten about the old and don't know how to consolidate. Should I stack? Is stacking a notebook akin to creating "sections" of the same notebook (like OneNote)? I'm hanging on by my tags right now since they allow me to find past treasures buried deep in my hoard; however, I'm afraid that as helpful as they are, the tags are enabling me to continue living in squalor because they create the illusion of having my act together just because the place isn't condemned. I dig tagging and try to tag everything, but I'm inconsistent about naming tags, which just adds to the pile. I also question my clipping techniques - what's best? URL? Article? Full Page? Selection?? These are just a few of the million questions I have. I'm excited by all the tools and features in Evernote and I want to learn more about what's in the trunk, Skitch, and all these other programs. I love how you can share notebooks with anyone (even if they don't have Evernote) and I am eager to start collaborating with my clients and editors, but that requires me to get my act together first. I feel like I need to establish a working system before I fully dive in. I know that there's a million helpful resources here and elsewhere online, but that's part of my problem. Information overload! I believe that I really need a book where everything is organized in one cohesive unit for easy reference. I'm thrilled that there's so many Evernote books available, but now I'm faced with another dilemma - which one(s)?? I have read some reviews on Amazon, but I'd really appreciate any recommendations/insight/resources that people out there would be willing to offer. Despite my organizational challenges, I'm a pretty fast learner so I don't want to go too basic - I'd like to find a book or books that delve into the using Evernote with other applications. Since I'm already imposing, I might as well go full tilt and give you my Evernote book/resource wish list. Hopefully others out there can also benefit from any feedback this post generates. 12. I recently downloaded your food / hello apps. Seemed to me another app that would be ++ useful would be an app that allowed me to photograph a book cover and bar code and have that registered with Evernote for my wish list. You could do the usual call out to amazon etc and add that to note automatically. THis has the advantage that you could get similar book titles right back on your device in seconds that you might also like to look for in shop or online later. Sometimes I come across a good book that I want to remember to buy / read later. TO be able to do what you do with Food app but with Books ( or any other doodad I might want to buy ) would be very nice.
  13. I would like to be able to mark / copy text and be able to share the marked quote to Evernote. Is there any possibility of being able to do this in future updates? Thanks all!
