  1. Hey everyone, So I'm using Skitch as part of my OS X script that basically does the following: upon pressing the hotkey it lets you select an area of the screen (or takes the whole screen, depending on the hotkey), then it opens up Skitch to let you edit it and then it uploads the edited image to Imgur and gives you the direct image link. All in 1 hotkey. I've found Skitch to be the best lightweight image editor out there for OS X but there are a couple of issues right now that are bugging me. I would gladly fix them myself if it was possible to edit the source code. The issues are: 1. When saving (or rather, exporting) the image Skitch always replaces slashes in the image name (example "image_1_01/01/2016") with underscores (becomes "image_1_01_01_2016"). I find it annoying because I always have to click the exact image I've been editing to make Skitch save it with slashes, not underscores. I don't really get why do this if I'm opening the OS-compliant named image with Skitch in the first place. Would it be possible to fix this? 2. When doing an export and pressing 'Enter' to save the image Skitch always asks if I want to replace the image (if I'm saving the edited image with the same name). I wonder if it would be possible to make a checked option if I want to just replace automatically every time I choose the same image name or if I at least could use arrows on the keyboard to move the button focus from 'Cancel' to 'Replace'. I'm sure Skitch developers out there would understand why I want to use keys as much as possible instead of trackpad.
  2. Hi There are a few tools around already to help send email messages into Evernote. The basic idea is simple; if you are using Evernote as your GTD or task tracking system, you want an easy way to throw emails into Evernote and get rid of them from your Inbox. Many of these tools require a third party application in order to set the shortcut key. I've written an Automator action for Mac that runs as a "service", which in normal peoples terms means you can easily set a shortcut cut for this in System Preferences. Here's a link to my documentation about it: http://goo.gl/WIXG3x This Automator action is very specific (but can be easily changed if you know Applescript), it will: Use the currently selected emails in Mail.app to... Create evernote notes for each selected email and then... Move each selected email to the "Archive" folder of the appropriate Mail.app account, finally setting it's background to blue (so you know it was moved into Evernote)It's simple, but super effective - and one cool idea is that the Evernote note retain a link back to the original email message. You can download the Automator action, and install this by following the instructions here. Happy Evernote'ing! -- John Clayton
  3. How to Extract Annotation Comments from PDF File in EN Mac Over the years, there have been requests for a feature/tool to extract annotation comments from a PDF file that is attached to an Evernote Mac Note. In fact, I too have been looking/searching for such a tool to use with PDFs in general. But I found no good solution. Turns out the solution has been right here under my nose all the time: Mac Automator So I am posting link to the Automator workflow (saved as a "service") that I have created that all can use: [PDF] Extract PDF Comments.workflow.zip I use Adobe Acrobat Pro to view/annotate my PDF files. If you use another app to EDIT/annotate your PDF files, you will probably need to change: the Automator workflow to use that app. the AppleScript in the workflow to use that app, as in: tell application "<YourPDFAppName>" Save this file to your Services folder: ~/Library/Services and then unzip the file by double-clicking on it. You may then delete the zip file if you wish. If you wish to set a keyboard shortcut for this service, goto Mac > System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services How to Use: Double-click on the PDF file header in your EN Mac Note This opens the PDF in your default app Press the shortcut you set above, or goto [AppName] > Services > [PDF] Extract PDF Comments in the Apple menu bar. The PDF Comments will be extracted and put on the Clipboard Paste into your EN Mac Note, or wherever you'd like. BTW, this will work with any PDF file you have open, even if it does NOT come from Evernote. Disclaimer: This Automator workflow should work on any PDF that has annotation comments created according to the Adobe specification. I have tested ONLY with Adobe Acrobat. I do not know if it will work with PDF annotations created by the EN Mac annotation tool. Here's what it looks like: The AppleScript script simply gets the file alias of the frontmost, active document open in Adobe Acrobat Pro. on run {input, parameters} tell application "Adobe Acrobat Pro" tell its active doc set fileAlias to file alias end tell end tell return fileAlias end run
  4. For whatever reason and as far as I know, Evernote does not yet offer an import folder, such as it does on the other platform. I came across a easy-to-follow How-To video that explains the process: The Automator code is here: http://www.documentsnap.com/evernote-mac-import-folder/ It works flawlessly. Just drop anything into your designated Evernote Import folder, and it gets added automatically as an Evernote note. However, I have a special need. I have been using iNotepad for many years. Although it is not supported any longer, it still works with 10.10., and i have been using it for very important notes, information and documentations. I would like to have certain notes imported automatically using the SymLink feature of the OS. iNotepad saves into a proprietary folder which can be opened with Show Packages and I can symbolic link each .rtf file into my designated Evernote Import folder. But of course it won't update, because of the missing Automator code. If you have more experience than I have, would you help me to have the contents of the Import folder to be sent to Evernote automatically once a SymLink file changes? Or even better, when I make changes in Evernote that they reflect back to iNotepad. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am virtually sure that there are other programs where people have stored notes and information that they would like to have automatically updated in Evernote. If there are other ways to accomplish this, I would like to know that as well. Thank y'all very kindly.
  5. Hi Everyone - so, I'm looking archive all of my old posts on my site into my Evernote notebook. The purpose obviously is to have an archive I can readily search. I read through the posts in the Forum and came across SiteSucker.com. It's a useful app in that I now have an HTML version of ever post since 2009. The challenge now is how do I replicate this but only send the text and not the HTML file as an attachment? I appreciate the tips, suggestions, etc. Thanks!
  6. Hello, First time poster, long time lurker. I am an avid user of Evernote in my business life and while i take a ton of notes with the program i create even more tasks while taking these notes. My question is, "how can i automate the process of moving the task into outlook 2010 task list?" Example notes notes notesnotes notes notesnotes notes notes notes notes notesnotes notes notes notes notes notesnotes notes notesnotes notes notes (checkbox) Send price list to Joe Blow by COB tomorrow notes notes notesnotes notes notesnotes notes notes notes notes notesnotes notes notes notes notes notesnotes notes notesnotes notes notes The task is usually located in the middle of an hour long set of notes and i thought maybe i could use Automator or a thrid party to sync that note to Outlook. Any help is appreciated Thank you
  7. Is it posible to create a new evernote note from a folder on you mac. I know you can just drag everything form a folder to a note but i like to do it smarter like with automator for mac you can create a 'right click on the folder' action Im not the best coder so i dont know where to start and was hoping the Evernote community has some tips and tricks on this! See attached file what a typical folder looks like for me
  8. I want to create an automator folder action that appends an existing note with an image that is placed into a folder with folder action. I.e. I have an already existing note called "DoneToday" in the notebook called "Done". When I place a new image to the folder called "Export" I want it to automagically appear at the end of the note "DoneToday". If it would be possible to add to the note the date and time when the image was created, that would be even more amazing but I can live without it. The hardest part for me is to figure out how to tell Evernote that the image needs to be added to "DoneToday" (instead of creating a new note). Does anyone know how to do this? I thank you in advance!
  9. Automator + Evernote Mavens, Do you have, and would you be willing to post, a Mac OS X Automator Script that addresses the following use-case (story card)? As a Mac Mail User, while viewing a specific Email, I would like to have the ability to click on a button in the Mac Mail Toolbar which automatically creates a "Forward" Email to send the selected Email to my Evernote Account . . . AND strips out of the "Forward" my signature block . . . THEN sends the Email via Mac Mail to EN. Your thoughts? FYI: The next Automator script I work on...will be my first, ever (note; ha!). Many, many thanks! Plane Wrtyer
