  1. I wrote this AutoHotKey script to help me solve a need to create an inventory. Feel free to change this to fit your specific needs. I needed the following: A way to store the inventory data so I wouldn't have to worry about data loss. Access to the data from my computer, phone, or a remote web site. Availability of the data in other programs - like a spreadsheet - so I could perform calculations on the data or to have the ability to format a list of items. The ability to enter data through use of a form - this forces the information saved to be more consistent and very quick to enter. Fully customizable. Using Evernote was the easy part. I have used it for a long time and it has never let me down. It just needs a little help to be more useful for this type of task. In a nutshell, here is what I came up with. I use an AutoHotKey script on my computer to launch a Windows form (AutoHotKey calls this a GUI). I enter all of the info for a given inventory item then click the "Enter" button. This will format the data and paste it into a new note in Evernote. After that, It will reformat the data into a comma delimited format, and append the data to a local backup text file. This automatically backs up the form data. It also allows the data to be opened in something like Excel so the data can be manipulated and looked at differently. The Cancel button closes the form with no action being taken. The Open File button opens the backup text file, which resides in the same location as the script. As far as finding items in Evernote, I keep everything in a notebook named "Inventory". To narrow down the search, I preface my search with notebook:inventory . That limits the search to only those notes in that notebook. Before I show you my solution, understand I am not an AutoHotKey expert. I looked around the web and found bits and pieces that I threw together to get this script. I have used this script for about a year and it works very well for my purposes. Your mileage may vary. Here is the script: ; ; AutoHotkey Version: 1.x ; Language: English ; Platform: Win9x/NT ; Author: A.N.Other <myemail@nowhere.com> ; ; Script Function: ; Template script (you can customize this template by editing "ShellNew\Template.ahk" in your Windows folder) ; ; Here's the basic hotkey syntax - reference. ; #n::Run Notepad ; this means the Win+n ; !n::Run Notepad ; this means Alt+n ; ^n::Run Notepad ; this means Ctrl+n ; F6::Run Notepad ; F6 ; ^F6::Run Notepad ; Ctrl+F6 ; ^!n::Run Notepad ; Ctrl+Alt+n ; NumLock & n:: ; Numlock+n #NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases. I never found a way to paste data into a specific notebook. After the script is running, by default, ALT-I will open the blank form anytime you want to create a new inventory entry. It takes a few seconds to complete the script when you click the "Enter" button. I use a Basic account so there has been no testing on a Premium or Business account. Feel free to ask questions - I will answer to the best of my abilities (there are probably way easier ways to accomplish this). If you make improvements, put your code up here for everyone to enjoy.
  2. With this script you can press Control + Shift + 1 through 9, and it will set user defined custom styles to your selected note text. If I haven't made any parts of this tutorial easy to follow, please let me know. I use a lot of AutoHotKey scripts to automate Evernote, and I thought I'd share some of them. AutoHotKey is an incredible bit of (free) software that can automate anything that you can physically do with your computer. If you don't have a copy, you'll need to install it for this to work. To make sure your script is running every time you start Windows, do this. I work on a lot of documentation in Evernote, and I wanted a way to easily set standard heading and paragraph styles. I created a little script that let's me send Ctrl + Shift + 1 through 9 to set various styles that I have defined. Here's the script, and then I'll explain how it works: #IfWinActive, ahk_exe evernote.exe ^1::SetFontStyle("bold", 18) ^2::SetFontStyle("italic", 16) ^3::SetFontStyle("bold", 14) ^Space::SetFontStyle("regular", 12) #IfWinActive SetFontStyle(weight, size) { currentSendMode := A_SendMode ; Get the current Send Mode SendMode Event ; Event mode works better in the Font dialog Send {Home}+{End} ; Select the current line Send ^d ; Open the Font dialog box WinWait Font, , 5 Sleep 200 Send !y%weight% ; Style Send !s%size% ; Size Send {Enter} SendMode %currentSendMode% } The first hotkey Control + Shift + 1 sets the font to be 18pt bold. The second hotkey Control + Shift + 2 sets the font to be 16pt italic. If you want to change the settings to suit yourself, just edit the lines in the middle that are marked. You can make yourself as many hotkeys as you like, here's the format for doing them: https://autohotkey.com/docs/Hotkeys.htm Here's the explanation: First off is the #IfWinActive command. This means the hotkeys will only be active if the Evernote window is in the foreground. The next lines call a function named SetFontStyle when you press a hotkey. "^+1::" means if Control (^), Shift (+) and the number 1 key are pressed at the same time, it knows to run the function with a font style of "bold" and a font size of "18". In the SetFontStyle function, "Send ^d" sends the keystroke Control + D, to bring up the font dialog box. We then wait for the Font dialog window to pop up. Next line tabs to the font style part of the box and sets it as bold, then tabs to the font size and sets it as 18 points. We then hit enter and exit the dialog. Simple! Hope this helps someone. --- If you have another language than English, please follow these instructions to make it work with your language: You'll need to modify the name of the Font dialog. Change the word "Font" to be whatever your one is: WinWait Font, , 5 And then on these two lines: Send !y%weight% ; StyleSend !s%size% ; Size You'll need to make sure the keyboard shortcuts still work in your language. Here is my Font dialog. Notice how there is an underline under the 'y' of 'Style', and under the 'S' of 'Size'. That is the shortcut key. Have a look in your one and find out what letter it is, and then change the two lines of the script to match. I've highlighted in red the two letters in the snippet of code above. Save it and reload, and it should work for you!
  3. I use the "Copy Note Link" under my GTD - like system and use the "Copy Link Note" on many notes. It would be helpful to have a keyboard shortcut for the "Copy Note Link" and avoid the right-click then scroll down menu process.
  4. It worked yesterday. Suddenly, it isn't. I haven't deliberately changed anything, and it still works with other software, just not Evernote, which is where I used it most. Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix it? Thanks.
  5. I have only recently downloaded AHK, does anyone have experience with the code that would allow me to insert an entire template? TIA.
  6. Hello, I am new with AHK and I've seen there are lots of AHK experts here. Thank you in advance for your feedback. I would like to do a very simple thing... To open a dedicated note in my Evernote desktop application (if possible, in the current w10 virtual desktop). I cannot find where is this note! Notes are not in individual files???? I tried to select a .enx file but it was not efficient. Now I open Evernote and I look up manually my note . Thank you for your feedback. 7. In an AutoHotKey script, what would you write so that the script runs one of those EN functions you find by right-clicking in the Windows system tray on the icon for Evernote? (See attachment) These functions include "Quit Evernote", "Configure Hot Keys" (in the submenu "Options"), "Open Evernote", "Find in Evernote", etc.
  8. Hi, This is a little script I wrote in response on this topic : https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/85914-paste-from-anywhere/ It could be useful to clip multiple selections in a text and then paste them in a new note, or append them in an opened one (if it is already opened in his own window). /* ClipStackctrl-space : add content to the clipboardctrl-alt-space : paste content in the single view note, even if minified (create new one if none is open)ctrl-q : close the script*/#Warn ; Enable warnings to assist with detecting common errors.SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.#NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory.#singleInstance;DetectHiddenText, On; -----------------------------------------------------------------------------global compil:=""^Space::clipboard:=""send ^cclipwait, 1compil := compil clipboard "`n"sleep 100return^!Space::clipboard := compilclipwait, 1PasteToEN()send, ^vsleep 100compil:=""return^q::ExitAppPasteToEN(){ IfWinNotExist ahk_class ENSingleNoteView { Send, ^!n WinWaitActive, ahk_class ENSingleNoteView } else { WinActivate, ahk_class ENSingleNoteView } ControlFocus, WebViewHost2 send, ^{end} {enter} return}
  9. I am really new to autohotkey, but I can already see a multitude of ways it could be used to make Evernote easier and more powerful to use. For instance, I could see it being used to create a GUI for advanced searches, or a GUI form-like box to add notes according to certain parameters or templates. Or hot keys for font headings/styles, etc. If you have an AHK script you have found particularly useful, please share the script here and describe what it does. I would love for this thread to be a collection of the best autohotkey scripts for Evernote out there. Then maybe we can vote on which ones are the best. Do we have any contenders out there?
  10. I hope this is the right forum. Lately I've been experimenting with Autohotkey. I went a little overboard and automated everything. I thought some of you might find the ones I wrote up for Evernote useful. Especially the following: Tag Search: Highlight any text and search for it as a tag. This way you can link to tags inside notes. Search in Google: Highlight any text and search for it on google. Change Link Color: This one is a bit complicated (and a bit dangerous, don't move or click while it runs) but once you run it it'll allow you to change the link color. It's automatically set to gray, which is what I use, but you can highlight the link, change the color, and it'll change. It works because I discovered links made internally can change their color, but not those copied/pasted (at least on the windows client). Basically it relinks the link. User Switching: Obviously not as good as Evernote's built in switch for users and obviously a security risk (your username/password has to be entered into the script) but for those of you who share computers and don't mind the slight security risk, it works. Full List of Hotkeys Basically it's optimized so that you can keep your left hand to the left and your right on your mouse and easily edit/format things. Note that it disables the Capslock key (it produces a horizontal rule instead). The full script I use (and further notes) can be found here. It has a few extra Evernote related hotkeys. Code for Evernote Section Below. Capslock + 1 Changes to 1st User (set in variables/options). Capslock + 2 Changes to 2nd User (set in variables/options). Capslock + 3 Changes to 3rd User (set in variables/options). Capslock + Alt Changes the Link Color. Set the mouse cursor right at the end of the link then run. Don't move/click while it runs. You've been warned. Right Click + Left Click Searches for selected text as a tag so you can add # Tags to notes then searching them by highlighting Tag and Right Click + Left Click. Right Click + Scroll Wheel Up Increases Text Size Right Click + Scroll Wheel Down Decreases Text Size FORMATTING Right Click + Ctrl Bold Right Click + Shift Italics Right Click + Capslock Highlight Right Click + Alt To-Do Checkbox Right Click + Windows Bullets Right Click + Space Create Link Right Click + Tab Toggles Center/Left Paragraph. It's two shortcuts in one key so holding right click and hitting tab will alternate between the two. Middle Click Hides Left (Notebook) Panel Capslock Horizontal Rule. I have this because I tend to use it a lot to separate clipped text/ideas. Capslock + Middle Click Toggles Note Info and Editing Toolbar. See Note Below. Capslock + Right Click Increase Indent Capslock + Left Click Decrease Indent Updates Fixed it not working in the note view and also simplified some of the scripts.
