  1. The following is true for any type of attached files. I will use Excel for my examples... Case 1: Paste ANY.XLS from outside EN two times to a note and rename one of them to NEW.XLS: Bug: Both copies of the file will get the new name NEW.XLS Bug: Name change of the other file will not be seen immediately (ANY.XLS seems to be active...) Case 2: Paste ANY.XLS from outside EN to a note and rename it to NEW.XLS. Then paste ANY.XLS a second time to your note. Bug: Second copy will get the name of the (renamed) first one (both are seen as NEW.XLS) Case 3 ("combination use case"): Cut&Paste an already attached file ANY.XLS within a note, rename one of them to NEW.XLS. Double-click the renamed file NEW.XLS to edit its content. Exit Excel to save the changed file. Bug: EN shows the unchanged file ANY.XLS as NEW.XLS (false) when changed file NEW.XLS is re-imported. Bug: Both files do have the same content. Original content of ANY.XLS is lost.
  2. Hi, feature request of a size option to allow for smaller inline attachment icons. To save vertical space I often like to have them in the same line as the text; it would be nice to be able to maintain the same line height throughout the note to avoid a disjointed note. Attached a crude example of what this might look like scaled down from the current look.
  3. Anyone know how to fix the resolution of the icon when an attachment is set to "View as Attachment"? All other text in Evernote is sharp.
  4. Excel attachments which I could previously edit and then save on my Android phone are now read-only. What has happened here? How may I get read/write access to these attachments? Both OfficeSuite Pro and Microsoft Excel for Android tell me the attachments are read-only and can't be saved. Thanks for any light you can shed on this!
  5. I want Evernote to maintain a search index of my pdfs even when some of them are stored elsewhere. Evernote already makes the pdf searchable; I just want it to keep that information after I save the pdf elsewhere and create a link to it. Why? The windows exb database file gets too large and unwieldy on Windows, and I'm guessing that is partly because it includes all attachments. I don't need all my pdfs to be "in evernote" - in fact I would prefer to leave them in google drive or somewhere else if it could help reduce my database size. I keep them in Evernote because of the search functionality - that is all I need from Evernote. How it might work? In an ideal world, I could point Evernote to a folder where I store all my woodworking pdfs (laptop or google drive), it could create a note for each one with a link to the pdf, and voila - I search for "bunk beds" and Evernote lists all relevant notes, including those that have the link to the attachment. I would be happy even if I had to manually create a note, enter pdf, have evernote do its search indexing, save the pdf elsewhere, add the link to it in the note, then remove the pdf from Evernote. As long as I got to keep the search information. Workarounds? There are workarounds, including using a separate account for the pdfs and sharing a folder, but they are workarounds and come with their own difficulties. But this is a wishlist item, and as such, I wish Evernote could save its search index for attachments I want to keep but don't want to keep within Evernote.

    Renaming Attachments

Hello, I am wondering when we will be able to rename PDF attachments saved inside a note like we can on the desktop version. This would greatly help send or move files on the iPad and phone a lot easier.
  7. Hello, I've got a Basic account (as I'm reminded every day, thanks), and I've a few notes with PDFs inside them. As I work my way through reading them, I highlight the important bits for reference later. I'm very happy with the feature that makes sure that what changes I make in the PDF goes straight back into Evernote, so the attachment is always up-to-date. Except I've now realised that every time I save my progress in Preview, Evernote counts this as re-adding the PDF to the note. This means my data usage has shot up dramatically. And with a scanned PDF of 5mb, every time I hit save I edge closer and closer to my 60mb cap. I'm now at 56.5mb, with a reset due in 26 days. Which means for the next month I have to tread awfully carefully, and completely avoid using Evernote if I highlight PDFs. Surely this is unfair. They're the same attachments, just with a few highlighted sentences here and there.
  8. I like the google drive integration, and can see that it is very useful when one wants to link to files, pictures etc stored in google drive. Sometimes, though, this is not what I want. Sometimes, I just want to insert a copy of a picture etc that I have in google drive, straight into the evernote note. I don't want a link, as I want to really see the image. And I want it to still be there even if I delete the copy from google drive. This is especially true for .png files, which are small anyway, so I don't really mind that this will add to my evernote used space. I have tried dragging the file from drive into the document, but this did not work for me. I would like it as an extra option when I've picked the "drive" icon, to be able to insert a copy of the image into the evernote note. Thank you.
  9. I would like to be able to view images like JPGs as attachments instead of inline. (The option to change the view is only enabled for certain file types.) There is a way to enable this for the Windows verison: http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/20850-showing-photos-as-attachments/. Is there a way to do the same on the Mac?
  10. My workflow: Every couple of weeks, an employee scans a couple dozen graphics-heavy documents, which the scan software (ScanSnap) automatically turns into a PDF and uploads to a company Evernote account. Then I go through and rotate pages on the (many) occasions that the software doesn't correctly detect orientation. I used to just right-click on the PDF, select "Open" which launched Preview, scroll through and occasionally use Cmd-L or Cmd-R to rotate pages, then close the window. Done. Now when I rotate pages, I get a message: "The original document can't be changed, so a duplicate with your changes has been created." Making changes and closing the window no longer affects the PDF stored in Evernote. Is this caused by a change to MacOS (I just upgraded to Sierra), or a change to Evernote? Either way, it's annoying. I can download the PDF, open it in Preview, save it, then delete the PDF in Evernote and replace it with my edited copy, but that's tedious and I'd like a better solution. Any ideas? Thanks.
  11. I am a recent evernote beginner due to my part time job as a personal assistant. My boss has been sharing notebooks with me which up until this point has been very easy and accessible. In our most recent share exchange he shared a notebook with an microsoft excel attachment. He has a macbook and I have a dell pc. I am easily able to access the note and open the excel attachment. Upon opening, I open and after disabling the feature that says enable editing I am able to freely edit within the document. He says that his old assistant (another mac user) was able to edit click save and those changes were saved and translated into evernote. When I do, however, it allows me to make the changes and save; however, once exited, the changes are not reflected in evernote. In fact, once I click save I get a pop up saying "Document Title is read only. To save a copy, click OK, then give the woorkbook a new name in the save as dialog box." I need to forgo. I need to find a solution to make it not merely read only but editable so that I can click and it updates the changes to reflect in the notebook without have to delete the attachment in the notebook and upload a second attachment. Is there any way for me to open one of his shared notes and associated attachment by simply opening, editing, and saving? He does not want me to open, edit, and upload a new and second attachment. Any help/guidance would be beyond greatly appreciated!!!
  12. Hi, after the upgrade a few days ago, I now cannot save attachments to my hard drive by right clicking a note in the list in the middle column (I have mine set up as links, note list, note preview). It goes through the motions like it is going to save it but when you go to the folder and check, it's not there. So, now it's like if I want to download the attachment to say rename it or something, I have to open it first and save it from Adobe. Anyone else have that problem? Should I re install?
  13. As a user, I would like to have the ability to sync a notebook offline, but choose not to sync the attachments to those notes (as the attachments are big and take up space). That being said, if I could in note, choose to sync a certain note's attachment(s), that would be amazing.
  14. I am writing on behalf of a client who loves Evernote and is extremely tech savvy, but is finding some hiccups in his workflow. Thought I could share his feedback in case it will help others as well. He wants to be able to scan photos or documents in bulk, give them all a title and appropriate tags, then have them all saved as individual notes. He does not mind them all having the same title (or he will take the time to adjust the individual titles once they all have the same tags and naming convention. He just does not want to have to scroll in a very long note to find the attachment he wants. This would be in the Evernote app directly or through Scannable or Scan Snap.
  15. I am an Evernote Plus user, using on 3 devices. About 50 of the 200 notes I have on my Windows computer contain a small blue arrow in the top right corner indicating that they have not been synced. See attached photo. I am using the most recent version of Evernote on Windows 7. The unsynced notes are not showing up on any of my other devices or on the server when I just log in through my browser. Some of the notes that are not syncing are just text, some of them are PDF attachments. Here are some of the steps I have taken thus far: I have manually pushed sync multiple times without success. (The sync button also has a red exclamation mark on the icon) Every time I push sync the activity log shows 2 errors. see attached screenshot Is there a way to force the sync of these notes or something that is preventing these notes from syncing regularly?? I am switching laptops soon so need these to sync properly. Thanks,
  16. When I am annotating a pdf file in Evernote for Mac, if I then return to the note in which the pdf is stored to type something, the annotation window for the pdf disappears. If I then want to return to where I was up to in the pdf, I have to scroll down to find it. This means I can't annotate a pdf and type in my note in parallel.
  17. When I drag and drop a new file into a note, if the file is large it is pretty inconvenient to have to scroll all the way back to the top and then right-click to collapse the file ("view as attachment"). I think it would make more sense to automatically view files as attachments, and then have a button that uncollapses the file so it can be viewed in full if desired. I tend to keep a lot of long pdf files (e.g., scientific papers) in single notes as a way of organising literature on a particular topic. This feature would make this process a lot easier! Thanks!
  18. Hi, I logged into Evernote this morning to work on an Excel spread sheet I created only to find this (see attached). Where the heck is my file? ExcelChart.tiff
  19. Hi, I am having some note with extensive (>100 pages) PDF files attached. Whenever I open the notes the Evernote App hangs for 5 to 15 seconds. To me it seems Evernote tries to open the documents and preview them inline in the note. Is there a setting in Evernote Mac that gives me the option to only preview documents of a certain size within the note? Or even disable preview altogether? regards Dietrich
  20. Today I discovered that some PDFs have disappeared from my desktop app (on an iMac). They show up on my laptop, phone, and iPad. I rebooted the computer and the application, but still no attachments. What gives?
  21. Twice in the past week, I've found attachments suddenly missing from notes: First time: Four monthly statements from a single note (PDFs from a bank, with the account number blacked out for security) Second time: JPG in a note that was left open overnight, for me to pick up on where I left off when resuming work this morning Different notes, different notebooks, different attachment types, opened on different days. No connection between the two notes, in any way other than their existence in EN. This scares the heck out of me, giving the number of vital documents saved in EN. Has anyone else run into this since the most recent update? EN version 6.5 (453172 Direct) ... MacBook Air ... Yosemite 10.10.5 ... more than 30% of the drive remains available, so this can't be a storage space issue on the laptop....
  22. I really would like to be able to manage multiple attachments in a single note, moving files between notes and so on, when I'm using Evernote on my iPad or on my Android phone. I guess there are workarounds for this, but it would me amazing to have a flexible system which would let you copy and paste files between notes, or move attachments inside the same note, for instance.
  23. I need hard copies of some of my notes, which have many many attachments. However, when printing, the attachments all get printed separately at the end, as full pages. Is there away to print so that the output is the same as what I see in Evernote?
  24. I use Evernote all day long, every day. It's beyond superlative. It's a requirement for all my employees. So, that said, work chat is very nice and we use it for almost all of our work discussions, but doing so brings about two recurring frustrations: Chat is not easily available. Neither as a separate window, nor as an enlargeable list in the sidebar - this adds clicks and time to my workflow every time chat is needed. When I need to find a chat thread, I have to leave whatever note I'm in, clicking "work chat" to see enough of the chats to find the one I need. Then I need to remember and find where I was in notes afterwards. There is tons of space above my recent chat list to the left in the sidebar. However, this cannot be used to display more chats. One or two is not enough... at all. It doesn't even show the most recent chats as a set number. It seems to only show chats that are actually recent based on a time frame of some sort. Sometimes this is only one chat. It seems like chat is an afterthought that is not expected to be of much use or value the way it's accessible. It should have a more accessible place, as if it was a separate app, because it is. Chat has no attatchments. We resort to messaging every time we need to share a photo (or a file that only needs to be viewed once or saved somewhere). This is like the chat in Evernote is actually broken. It's easier to switch apps rather than create a note, attach a photo or file to it, and then share that note as a weird non-visual link in the chat. If you don't need the note afterwards, this also creates clutter.
  25. I was using the web browser version of evernote and tried uploading a document to a note. I was able to select the file, and the upload successful message was displayed. However, after the message disappears, the attachments does not show up in the note. Tried uploading a few different files, and also using chrome instead of the IE browser, but the problem persists. Only by using the evernote windows app will the attachment display successfully. Please could someone suggest what could be causing this problem?
