  1. With a Premium subscription, I have access to Note History. Today I tried restoring previous versions of a note in the Windows desktop program. It's supposed to import it into the Imported Notes notebook. I tried more than one version of more than one note, and nothing ever imported (even after syncing). However, when I went to the Web beta and looked at Note History there, I was able to use the Restore function to recover an earlier version of a note into my default notebook. So it looks like the function is working in a slightly newer way in the Web beta (there's also an Export to .enex option there), but no longer working in the Windows program for me. Is anyone else with a Premium subscription having problems with it?
  2. Heya, I use Evernote personally and professionally with a premium plan. I'd love the ability to select which notebooks/stacks can be synced/viewed per client so that my work computer will never have access to personal notes. My biggest fear is needing to search for a note in a work notebook for work and have private notes in the search results. I present my screen multiple times per week and opposed to my coworkers seeing how I use Evernote, they don't even know it's installed. It's not ideal for me, and definitely hurts any prospective word-of-mouth advertising that Evernote could benefit from. This seems like it would be an easy implementation. During install, offer to select which notebooks to sync to this local install, and offer the ability to edit the selection in the Synchronization options. Bandwidth and sync operations would also benefit. I use tags extensively and keep notebooks very broadly so would perfectly for my use-case. It also aligns with the existing use-cases for notebooks, since sharing is done per-notebook, so I suspect it would benefit many others too.
  3. Today we released Windows 6.25 GA. It's available here! What’s in 6.25 GA? Fixed: Some users experienced issues with switching Google accounts once authenticated on non-Chrome browsers Issues with note history import Security update
  4. I'm on Windows 7 with EN version below. This issue also occurs on a Windows 10 machine I work with. Both machines are up to date with Windows Update. EN regularly becomes unresponsive for 30 seconds to several minutes at a time. When I look at the Activity Log, the error below corresponds with the unresponsive period. I've searched the forums, but can't find a similar issue or a solution that works for me. I use a HOSTS file to block known malware and advertising IPs, which I thought might be causing the error. However, the error occurs even when I revert to the default Windows-installed HOSTS file. The error also occurs across several different ISPs (i.e. wherever I happen to be with my laptop). Notes sync as expected. The issue persists through several clean installs of both of EN and Windows. [EDIT] The issue has also persisted through several EN versions. Anyone have a guess as to what else might be causing this? 5. Since one of the latest EN for iOS updates, I regularly experience that notes created and looking perfectly fine on my iPad show on my PC with various font sizes. This behaviour seems truly erroneous, I can't detect any regularity. As an example, compare the first bullet-point in note attached: as created on iPad and as synced to Windows.
  6. In Evernote for Windows 5, if I press the Escape key when a note is open in its own window, the note window is closed. This behavior is unexpected -- no other windows application I know of uses the Escape key to close a window. This has bitten me a few times. The only shortcut keys that make sense are ALT+F4 and CTRL+F4. The Escape key should only be used to stop or cancel a task. From the Microsoft Windows UX Design Guidelines: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa511331.aspx#keyboard Don't assign different meanings to well-known shortcut keys. Because they are memorized, inconsistent meanings for well-known shortcuts are frustrating and error prone. For the well-known shortcut keys used by Windows programs, see Windows Keyboard Shortcut Keys. And also: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms971323.aspx#atg_keyboardshortcuts_windows_shortcut_keys Windows Shortcut Keys As noted in the Designing the Keyboard UI section, it is important for applications to be consistent with other applications when using shortcut keys. This section introduces a series of shortcut keys that are used in Windows. To be consistent with other Windows-based applications, it is recommended that you map shortcut keys in a similar way. For more information, see General Shortcut Keys for Applications. -David
  7. I'm using the web clipper, not the downloaded Evernote application. I often clip multiple items on the same topic, and I'd like to clip them to the same note. At the moment they all appear in different notes. Is there some convenient way to combine them all? When I press Clip I'd like it to give me the option of adding it to an existing note. Btw I sent in a support ticket I think 10 days ago and still havent gotten a response. I sent in another one but that was more recent. Is evernote that bad with support or was I supposed to login somewhere to see their response? I dont have premium.
  8. The drag and drop function of Evernote is in version 6.11.2.7027 (307027) Public (CE Build ce-43.0.4829) still not repaired or re-added. This is a critical missing feature since drag and dropping PDFs is central in our workflow (and used based on access to the correct files using the great search functionality in EN in 3600 notes). I don't see the advantage of the new PDF viewer: it is less intuitive user interface and more load on the user because of the back frame (changing per note). Therefore a repeated requests to restore this functionality. Updating to newer builds are not possible do this critical change.
  9. Yes, it happened again. And this time it really screwed things up for me. I was going to a concert. Had bought ticket online in advance. HAd ticket as a Note in Evernote. Coming to the entrance to show my ticket from my iPhone and… zas! The note is there but its content is something completely different. Anotehre note is showing. No ticket!! Restart Evernote. Restart iPhone. Nothing helps. The concert will start anytime….. I bought another ticket. And lost my reserved place. And my dining table. Aaaaaaarrrrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! When are you guys going to fix this damn thing once and for all? PS: Back home, I deleted the app and loaded up a new one. Logged in again. Notes (more than 5,000 of them) began upholding. This was a few days ago. They are still uploading…. /DS
  10. When I joined Evernote customer club many years ago, it was unique and innovative. And during these years you managed to maintain highest level of user satisfaction. So what's wrong now? Why to remove the tool, actively used by many - smart and rational? Obviously, keeping Atlas doesn't involve too additional level of effort. Fellow Evernote users, I urge you to support this actively, as Evernote got big enough to listen to few users opinion.
  11. Today we released Windows 6.24 GA. It's available here! What’s in 6.24 GA? Fixed: Some users experienced errors when connecting Evernote to Google Drive The app would not restart after changing language settings When clicking on a notebook, the app would not always load the first note in that notebook The confirmation window when exiting the app was not always visible “Synchronizing notes” progress bar was not appearing
  12. Just got a wireless full-size keyboard to use in place of my laptop keyboard. I'm stumped by a basic keyboard combination. What is the key combination to select the entire line? Shift + Control + Right Key selects an entire word Shift + Control + Home Key selects everything above Shift + Control + End Key selects everything below
  13. So this is a long standing issue which does not seem to attract the attention of Evernote dev team so I'm trying to see how many others still have this issue too, and what may we do about it. Basically, I think any user of the desktop version (not the new beta) would agree that the web version (classic or new) is much more crippled in comparison. You cannot edit attachments (e.g., to annotate PDFs), merge notes, etc. There are two 'outstanding' bugs. The first is that the button "Copy Internal Link" does not do what Ctrl + Alt + L does, despite labelling the latter as a shortcut of the former. If you use the button in the Context Menu, it yields a "https://www.evernote.com/shard/" link, which does not open in browser, unless you paste that in another Evernote note (and then copy that again). As other users have pointed out, this is a great impediment to users' workflows which incorporate other apps, like OneNote, Todoist, etc. Internal links (a la evernote:///view/) can only be generated by clicking Ctrl + Alt + L. evernote:///view/ (Of course, one may argue that this is "by design", because "internal" doesn't mean "desktop" and can include an https link. Well...) Relatedly, the second issue is opening https links in the desktop app. Contrary to some forum users' claims that this is by design, this used to be a feature, until the development team took away the enAppInstalled cookie, perhaps with a view to forcing users to open links in the web-app instead of the desktop app. (The development team, in my collection and I would be happy to be corrected, has not explained why the cookie was removed.) I think supposedly, another Chrome/Chromium extension can be written which automatically parses and converts https:// links to evernote:// links (the two links use similar elements). But, of course, if there can be an official solution, this would not be necessary.
  14. How do you switch Google Drive accounts? When I click on the Google Drive icon, it shows files from my personal Google Drive. Sometimes I would like to access files from my work Google Drive account.
  15. How to make my work computer to open evernote links in Chrome with Evernote desktop application? Long story below: I'm using the same Chrome user both at home and at work. All my extensions and settings are identical and synced. I have Evernote web clipper plugin in both. Home computer uses Win 8.1 and is doing what I want, work computer has Win 7 and doesn't do it. I want that when I open a link like this: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s3/nl/237001/232d6d1e-11b5-40f3-aa53-f278f070f5a7, my computer would open it in browser and then suddenly change to my desktop application. That's the behaviour I expect and that's how my home computer does the job (I'm using https://calendar.sunrise.am/ , where I can just click "View on evernote"). Tried playing with the file: C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Local State and adding: "protocol_handler": { "excluded_schemes": { <...> "evernote": false,At my home computer it's like the above, at work computer there was no "evernote" line at all. Tried setting it false, true, removing - no difference. So, I know that it's possible, because it's working from the home computer.
  16. I was trying to open the windows Beta version and it gives me a blank page. Checking for updates didn't work. I downloaded what I found to be the latest update on the forums but it wouldn't install because "it's already installed" so I uninstalled and tried again after restarting, still cannot install. I contacted support I was advised to "Enable Beta ..." in Tools > Options > General and then recheck for updates (in the regular evernote), no updates still. I have now uninstalled Beta and only have the regular Evernote.
  17. Just submitted a support request, but I thought the assembled brains here might have some experience to share - I'm seeing a 'tidying up the notes in your account' banner in Evernote for Windows 6.24.2 ever since I used the extended help menu a few days ago. Quick background - I went through the 50K notes barrier a month or so ago (actually now 50,607 total) since when the app tends to freeze for 30 seconds or longer at random times... usually just after I start to use it for something. I've got the complete fix-list of recreating databases / fiddling with settings / increasing available memory / SSD's / firewalling the server etc (though it's disk activity that goes wild, not internet traffic), but I also have a few things I need to get done, so I wanted to try the optimise options in Help first. Scarily I can't remember whether I used Optimize Database or Recreate Full Text Search Index option, but ever since I have this blue banner on screen which starts at 0% and winds up to around 50% during the day. I shut down my laptop each night to make sure that everything is closed, because I never know whether I'll be working on this laptop the next day - I need some apps (including Evernote) to be synced and available to unlock from elsewhere if necessary. When I open up again, we're back at 0%. I don't know if that means we're starting again from scratch, or that this is a measure of the notes left to process - which means that in a few days the banner should get to 100% quite quickly and disappear. If need be I can leave the laptop running and close everything else down. So if anyone has any clues as to how this works I'd be grateful for pointers... Thanks in advance for any help! 🙂 (If it's relevant the OS is Windows 10 1709 - this laptop is steam-powered!)
  18. ☀️ Good afternoon! I use Evernote to collect and organize research from books that resemble epic tomes. It is difficult to stop and type out all of my notes, so I prefer using speech recognition software. I was previously using Evernote on iOS only, and used speech recognition that comes native with iPhone keyboards. However iOS speech recognition is inferior to the Windows 10 native speech recognition feature. However, when I attempted to use that on the Windows 10 app version, I can get out exactly one sentence before the speech recognition bar informs me that "Dictation is not fully supported in this app." Typing takes 3x longer than using speech recognition features (no hyperbole there). Without smooth usage of this native feature, it feels like the app is broken for purposes of use like mine. Right now, I have to take notes in Google Docs and copy/paste it into Evernote. I feel like this is sort of a shame for a subscription based premium service, and I'd love to work exclusively in Evernote to avoid even needing to juggle any of it. If there is a trick to getting this to work properly with Evernote that I'm not aware of, I'd appreciate counsel. It works as intended in every other software, apps and browsers that I have tested it in. This leads me to believe this isn't a settings problem, but I'm aware that there are sometimes specific needs and work-arounds with applications still in development. I would be grateful for serious consideration of full support for Windows 10 speech recognition features. Thank you for your time! Nicole
  19. Is there any way to change the background color of the interface from white to something else? I was very excited to see the Evernote Clearly interface because you could click the lamp and change background of the page! However when I realized the page could not be saved that way in Evernote, I was very disappointed. As we may all know the intense white background on most interfaces is a doozey on our vision, so anything to assist in improving that would be a huge plus. Maybe the ability to change the white background to light grey or dark grey background with black text, or black background with white text, etc... On the upside I rely on Evernote HEAVILY for work, home, everything, in short this app RULES! Thanks in advance for any input or responses...
  20. I wish that when I select a font color that same font color remains as my favorite at least available for all my notes. Perhaps if I can make it default under the tools, options menu. Thanks for listening.
  21. I would really like to have a hotkey that would delete a note. What I would like is to make the letter 'd' a hotkey that deletes a note. It would really speed up workflow, as I already have my left hand on the keyboard and if I could delete notes by hitting 'd' on the keyboard it would be really useful for me. What are the possible ways I can do this? It sure would be quicker than right clicking, or reaching for the delete key..... If Autohotkey is the only way to do this, I would need the script to insert... Appreciate any help!
  22. Hello. This might sound a little stupid, but I really believe it could help some people. I suggest that a small arrow or whatever kind of notification appear somewhere in the note (lower left corner, for example) IF the note has text in it below the observable area. I know, I know, you can just scroll. But, if you are a user like me, that writes long notes, that require a lot of scrolling to go through, and you delete a whole section that could end up leaving a huge blank space, it would save a lot of time and sorrow (because you delete the note after a while thinking you have no more text in it). Just a small icon or something that would just let you know, by just seeing it "Hey, if I am here that means you have more text below". Thanks!
  23. Hi, It would be great if we can increase/decrease selected text font size with plus/minus button. I always looking for this button when editing content. Thanks
  24. You know, the "Bold, Italic, Underline, Font, Size, Bulleted List, Number List, etc." buttons ... They are gone from my client interface? I cannot find a way to bring them back. EVERnooooote. What Have You done? *taps foot and looks at Evernote over his glasses*
  25. UPDATED Monday, October 22, 2018: There's been a slight change in the Evernote.com code, which rendered the previous version of this fix unusable. The version in this message (message #1) will now work with newer versions of Evernote (6.16.2 and later), as well as older ones, going back to September 2017). You must have Swiss File Knife (SFK), a free program, to make this patch; see below for how to get it. WOOHOO! As of September 19, 2017, forum member Ashetty has got this working again! Get a copy of Swiss File Knife here, then see this comment for instructions and kiss those glaring white note backgroungs goodbye! THANK YOU, ASHETTY! If you've used versions of my patch before, here's the tl;dr: after backing up your Evernote.exe file and closing Evernote, this command will do the trick; feel free to substitute a different hex color string for #b2b1b3, which is a shade of gray (I'm partial to #c0dcc0 myself, which is a pale green), leaving the semicolon and two spaces before the slash intact; whatever hex color you specify will appear as the background color for your notes: sfk rep Evernote.exe -firsthit -text "/-webkit-touch-callout: text;/background-color: #b2b1b3; /" -yes sfk rep Evernote.exe -firsthit -text "/-webkit-touch-callout:text;/background-color:#b2b1b3; /" -yes You may require administrator privileges to make this work. As of Evernote for Windows 6.6.1.5097 Prerelease, which came out on or about 21 May 2017, a new editor is used for the Evernote desktop client. The technique described below NO LONGER WORKS WITH THIS NEW EDITOR. All the more reason for Evernote itself to finally give us proper dark theme! NOTE: April 2016: This technique also works fine with the new Evernote for Windows 6.0 client. I find the glaring-white background of the Windows Evernote client impossible to use for extended periods. I solved the problem for the Web version by writing a custom style sheet, which you can get here: https://userstyles.org/styles/110978/evernote-with-less-eyestrain But I really needed a solution for the Windows client, the entreaties of many users for a dark/nighttime theme having fallen on deaf ears at Evernote for years now: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/45681-please-dark-theme/ And so I went spelunking and found where Evernote.exe actually codes for the white background in the display of notes. This doesn't affect the actual content of the note (if you export it, the .enex file is identical to what it would have been before you made this change), or how other people see your notes (they'll still see them with a white background). It only affects the display of notes on your own computer. However, this ONLY changes the display IF you have the following checked in your Windows Evernote client: Tools | Options | General | Enable beta features and updates The attached batch file will automate the entire process of making the change, but you'll need Stahlwork's free Swiss File Knife to run the file, or, if you're savvy with a hex editor, just read the comments in the batch file to make the changes by hand: http://sourceforge.net/projects/swissfileknife/files/ I've attached the batch file as EN-color.txt, but you'll need to rename it to EN-color.bat before running it (the forum software here doesn't allow uploading with files with the extension. bat). Look over its contents with any text-file viewer so you can see precisely what it's going to do. You'll have to re-run this batch file each time you install an Evernote update (which is why I automated the process), but it only takes a second to run. The net result will be as in the photo attached: a light-gray background for notes against a darker gray workspace (you can adjust the colors to other values by editing the batch file, if you wish). I've tested this on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit and Windows XP Pro 32-bit. Before running it, you will need to edit the batch file to have the proper pathing for your files. And you need to quit Evernote before applying the patch (exit the Evernote program, then right-click on the Evernote tray icon and select "Quit Evernote"). Note: if you have trouble applying the patch (you get error messages when the batch file runs), do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Windows Task Manager and close all Evernote processes, which might include Evernote.exe, EvernoteClipper.exe, and EvernoteTray.exe, then try the patch again. All best wishes! Rob EN-COLOR.TXT
