  1. I've shared a note via work chat with a few colleagues. Is there a way for them save that note into their notes section instead of having to go through the chat to get to it?
  2. I love to use Evernote Premium to organize my personal life. Is there a way to disable the Work Chat feature? My usage model does not always want collaboration. In most cases I just want to share a note or notebook with a friend or family member. It is really confusing now. I just want to send a simple email for the notebook or note to a recipient. But the Work Chat dialogue seems to be the default now. Since I'm not using Evernote in a "Work" environment, I hate associating my notes and notebooks with a "Work Chat".
  3. I've read dozens of posts and articles about sharing but can't find an answer to a simple question. I want to 'share' a note with another Evernote user (ideally with all of my Tags). Once they receive it I want it to be theirs, not tied back to me. I want them to be able to edit it, tag it and move it to another notebook just like any note they created. I've tried sharing via Work Chat. The other party receives the chat, but the shared notes are imprisioned in a walled off area and can't be moved to other notebooks etc. This seems so basic. Please tell me what I am missing Many Thanks Ken
  4. Hi, I feel that EN has become too focussed on the business user and on the social networking frenzy. For me, a person running all my business and projects from EN as a one woman show, sharing through emailing a note is crucial. In the latest redesign of EN you have hidden that function deeply into a drop down menu in preference for sharing things on facebook and twitter (really???) or the business chat. I urge you to please bring back emailing a note to the simple sharing menu at the top of the note for us grown ups. It just feels as if you are not catering for people like me anymore. I never share things on facebook and twitter. I run projects! I understand that some people do but surely that is not the most important sharing tool and function of EN. I understand the chat thing is useful for teams of creators so that is not an issue but as I said if we can only have a limited number of options in the simple drop down menu, please prioritise email over facebook and twitter. Anyone else have thoughts on this? Thanks Hanna
  5. Morning All, I am using the Evernote Client for Windows and was super excited to hear about the work chat feature. I am testing with a free ever note account. I have two accounts set up for testing -- my main evernote account and another account set up on another computer. When I send work chat messages to the other account messages are delayed. I witnessed that those messages can take any where from 5 seconds to 1 minute to arrive at the other side. Does any one know why this happens? I also tested with on Evermpte fpr IOS devices to computer(using different accounts for each). And It appears that from computer to IOS work chat messages arrive real time. While from IOS to computer messages are delayed. Does any one have any ideas of why this is happening or what can I do so that messages arrive at the computer realtime? Thanks
  6. The work chat is nice, but it wastes space (and thus my time). Consecutive lines by the same author should be grouped. One letter/profile photos per many consecutive lines. Thanks.
7. I'm revisiting sharing notebooks, something I've done sparingly up until now. Of course it's all changed and it's all Work Chat now. I can remember when it was all fields. My scenario is to share a notebook from my premium account to a non-premium colleague. To test this I tried sharing the notebook from a Windows client using my home premium personal address to another email address - my Exchange one at work. I right-clicked on the notebook name, selected Share Notebook, and entered my work email address. This appeared to go ok although some of the terminology strikes me as a little odd; I don't want to chat, I want to share. But I guess that's just semantics. I checked my email account at work and found an email saying: Dougie Nisbet shared a notebook with you Dougie Nisbet is using chat to share work with you. Click below to read and reply to this chat. Reply in Evernote This was all looking quite promising so I clicked on the link and, as expected, had to create a new Free EN account. However, after doing that I could find no sign of the shared notebook. I tried repeating the process but that got a little messy and confusing and it wasn't at all clear if anything was being sent. I'd enter the email address again and click on Send and nothing would happen. So on a hunch I decided to try with a different (new) email address. I repeated the process, this time sharing the notebook with a gmail address I have. Same thing, got the email, clicked on the link, opened up a browser, created a new free EN account. And that worked just fine. I could see the notebook. So .... some sort of problem with the first (Exchange) email address then? Perhaps I'd mistyped or got something wrong that I was unaware off. I tried to repeat Sharing the notebook to the Exchange address but nothing would happen. No useful feedback, diagnostics, or activity I clicked on Send. (attachment 1) So I had a look at the Modify Sharing options. This doesn't recognise my exchange address, but does see my gmail address. (attachment 2) I tried Sending Reminder by clicking on the incongruous 'User Name' entry (it ticks itself) (attachment 3) only to get the slightly strange error that User Name is not an email address (attachment 4) Ok so I'm guessing at some sort of EN bug here. I switch if off and on again (I do work in tech support) but that doesn't fix it, so I'm out of ideas. Perhaps it's the platform? I try sharing it on my Mac - the OSX seems a bit cleaner and looks promising, but no email appears. On a hunch I log into my account on the web interface and try sharing the notebook from there. This gets a bit interesting when I enter the email address, producing the error "You have entered an invalid email address". (attachment 5). I'm not sure what's going on here but I suspect there's some corruption somewhere in my account in its treatment of the storage of the exchange email address. I've done some more tests with a couple of other accounts, setting up new free EN accounts and they're fine. As a final test I've just repeated the whole thing with a fresh Exchange address, tested it, and that's working fine! Right, (forgive me for showing the unreconstructed workings of my head but this has been driving me nuts all day and I'm trying to work through it all again methodically to reproduce it ...) So back to the original dodgy exchange address. (The one I want to work). I'm unable to reshare the notebook to it. Logging in to that account shows it can't see the notebook. In summary, I seem to have an email address that EN thinks is in the twilight zone. Can I delete it and start again? Thanks Dougie
  8. I have an iPhone 4 and I'm still using iOS 6 because of several problems with the updated software. The old evernote app doesn't support work chats and so I don't get notifications when someone posts something in a work chat. Is there anyway I could get a notification via email or sms or something when someone replies to my chat?
  9. I noticed that Work Chat is very slow when I try to type in a contact with whom to share a note. Is there a reason for this?
  10. In the Windows version (5.8.1.6061) it appears that CTRL ALT N triggers the Work chat function. I would like to disable this hot key, as I use the same combination for other purposes in my computer; however, this is not listed in the "hot keys" tab in the Options panel. Any suggestions on how to deactivate the function would be most welcome.
  11. When I first launch work chat to share, and when I type in names of contacts to share with, I get a spinning beachball for about 10-20 seconds, slowing down my workflow when sharing with people. Is there a reason for this? Can this be fixed to eliminate this problem?
  12. I run a development team and we've tried a few different project tracking systems. Currently we're using evernote. Actually it's just me using evernote to track our projects, assign tasks, and keep a handle on the dev schedule. We need to expand this so that our entire team is able to communicate and work within the system. Evernote works for keeping a queue of my projects, updating major enhancements, testing results, posting details, etc.. However, it doesn't provide a good way for daily communication about a project to get archived. We were considering a possible Evernote/HipChat/Zapier solution but it's still a little lacking. The plan is to... 1. Create project in Evernote, type in all the details, scope, team members, arvhice the spec. 2. Create a room in HipChat for the project. 3. Share this Note out to everyone, read only 4. All communication about this project form this point on happens in the HipChat Room 5 Create a Zapier that updates our Evernote with all hipChat messages (this works great) 6. When a project is completed we archive the HipChat room and move our Note to the Completed Projects Notebook So this is a decent plan but we have a lot of small projects and it will take a lot of work for me to keep a system like this up and running. It needs to be really simple for the project team and nothing is simpler than hipchat interface and simple updating/file sharing right in there. But the set up of each and every project is where I'm having a problem. I was hoping when I created a new EN Note with a specific Tag (Project) that I could use that as a Zapier trigger to create a new HipChat room. There is no HipChat action in Zapier (or IFTTT) that allow you to create a New room, only add messages to an existing room or update a Room Topic. Also there are no triggers to close a room when I change a Note tag or change a Note tag when I Archive a room. So while my system will work it's very manual. I tried looking at Work Chat but the problem with work chat is that it's a huge all or nothing chat window. I need a stand alone communication sandbox for each project. So I would need a chat thread for each project. Work Chat is one giant thread. I can't have a huge chat thread where all projects are being communicated about at once. I can't just share out the notes because EN doesn't really fit our scheme that way either. I can share out a Notebook but not a specific Note, or even better a specific Tag. I wish when I entered a developers tag to a Note it was then shared to him. But the only way to do that is share it through Work Chat and then every time he wants to edit he has to go through his giant Work chat thread and find it to click on it and update. So the system kind of works but I'm missing a few automated connections in Zapier/IFTTT that would make this really work for me and Work Chat, while I'm sure it's useful for many people, doesn't really give me the granular support I need for in-project communication. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Tools that would allow me to attach some kind of ongoing chat tool/app to each Note/Project and arvhive it in the Note when done. Or a client that allows actions to set up a Room type area for communication from a Zapier/IFTTT trigger?
  13. My coworkers have changed there email accounts. Its very confusing because EN keeps prompting their old email address when im trying to send notes in work chat. How can I delete old email contacts in EN. I've tried deleting the old info in my gmail contacts but EN still remembers their old email. Any ideas? Im new to Evernote but im obsessed with it!!! Also, any simple ideas on how to structure notebook, stacks and tags for home office?
  14. Hello I have been using EN for about 3 months. I have liked it so much, I have shared it with others I want to collaborate with, the problem being... I have never been able to initiate a notebook or note sharing process from my account. I can receive shared notebooks or notes from others (those I asked to sign up), I can even go into their accounts (they live with me), set up EN on their computers and initiate sharing from their accounts and it comes to my account no problem. I just updated EN on my netbook running Win 7 and verified it is up to date, and still nothing. I just checked my EN app on IOS and do not see that sharing is an option there. I have tried many times, verified email addresses, etc. This is frustrating given this is the main reason I came to EN, to collaborate and initiate sharing. Can anyone suggest why it is only my EN that is unable to initiate sharing?
  15. My team battle-tested Evernote's Work Chat feature last night. It worked great as long as one person edited the note at a time. What I'd love is the ability to have multiple people edit a note simultaneously (like taking meeting notes, for example), with the different users' edits in different colors — much like track changes in Word or even the things that Google Docs can do. The swirling "I am editing this" avatars are far too subtle. A "you are editing" bar at the top of the note would be better. If we cannot ever edit simultaneously (potential technical limitations, I get it), how about a button to request access, so that we don't have to keep jumping from the note to the chat window to request access? A "there have been changes made to this note, click this to see those changes" button/link/indicator, to let the others know about the new stuff.Thank you very much for you time.
  16. Good afternoon, I have shared notebooks with colleagues who are using Evernote using the Windows version, but they are not able to see the contents, only the title. They click on 'sync' and on the title of the notebook, but no notes appear. Previously, we were sharing notebooks without using the Work Chat feature, but now that we are sending links this way, it's no longer working. Do I need to change a setting on my account to enable Work Chat sharing of notebooks? Better yet, is there a workaround so that I can share notebooks as we were before (i.e. without the Work Chat)? Thanks very much, - Emily
  17. Every email you place, none is sent to the recipient. I sent 7 documents, only discovered four weeks to find out that none were receiving. workchat today never worked. And who has not evernote, did not receive any warning that your email has been shown to display a document.
  18. Sharing a note in Evernote used to be simple and awesome. Now with Work Chat, when I try to email a note, it goes through Chat. My recipients, who used to get a beautiful note, now get error messages that say: ""Can't open note. Either you need permission to access or the note was moved," Why is Evernote forcing me to use the unwanted Work Chat? And why cannot I not email notes anymore??
  19. Hi, in the Windows Client (and maybe anywhere else) the "delete" button beside the "info" is replaced with "workchat" menu. Because I don't use workchat I want my delete button back. How may I manage this? TIA, Regards, Carsten from Germany.
  20. Hi, just started using Workchat. I managed to start several chats with one, two and four members. Sharing a single note to an existing chat seems to be a problem: I cannot drag and drop (if I open the notes directory the chats close) except if i make the note a favorite. And if I use the share button within the note I can choose between the chats with just one other member but not the group chats. Any idea how to manage that? Thank you Klaus
  21. I wonder, does anyone know how it might be to use work chat to give comments and discuss with students in their shared notebooks? I am a premium user and have shared class notebooks with my classes, then shared another with editing rights with each of my students, and I have wanted to be able to just hit "like" or say "great, go ahead" or more, when I see they have uploaded something or are on their way with an assignment. Is Work chat my answer? I am testing it out with a few already but am not sure how it works, really. Anyone else tried this? I also wonder WHY Evernote does not automatically find the person I am sharing the note with as I click 'share' and choose email or, as of lately, 'chat' - wouldn't that person be the obvious default choice? Instead, unless the person's address is in my contact list (and honestly I'm not sure which one of my contact databases it is the program accesses...I am on my work computer, but it seems to be my google contacts) - I have to type in the address from memory or look it up. Just slightly annoying as is seems a simple thing to offer - maybe it isn't.
  22. Hi, I had a couple of work chats in the Mac version to try the feature out. I deleted them, but they are still showing up in the Web Beta, and there seems to be no way of deleting them there. Am I missing something? Thanks!
  23. I loaded up the new Evernote Update, interested to see what the new chat feature was like. What I expected is a chat capability that would automatically include people from my Evernote Business account. That was not there. Not only was it not there, there was no option to populate in accordance with the EB account. On top of that, there was no option to start a chat from the EB roster under our business tab. Am I missing something? This doesn't make sense, especially since Evernote has been advertizing this feature as "work chat." This makes even less sense to me given what Evernote chat does have. Evernote chat has ever-present options to connect Evernote chat to Outlook and Gmail (not EB contacts). I'm sorry, but Evernote does not need access to my business' Outlook or Gmail contacts. There is a LOT more information in Outlook than just email addresses for chat. I'm not comfortable with that option at all. Making matters worse, as the admin for our business's EB account, I can't disable Evernote chat (or that Outlook import option) so that our employees are unable to grant EB access to our business Outlook. I would like to see Evernote chat recognize our own EB users (that just makes sense), and I want more admin control over what access EB has to other programs with contacts. Thanks.
  24. I haven't seen anything significant posted on the new Work Chat upgrade. It could be that many of the regular forum contributors don't immediately have a willing/ enthusiastic subject to test it out with (my case). So... any curious soul is welcome to mail me with your email address. Also, if anyone could suggest note content of some sort that one could collaborate on... One suggestion would be a Tic-Tac-Toe game (using Skitch tools) by annotating a blank image.
  25. Sharing a single note in the iOS work chat works fine - a little icon is in the chat with the name of the note. I thought I could share in the same way a notebook: first select a notebook, than the chat icon - but nothing happens, only the "normal" text message without any icon appears
