  1. Hello, After installing ver 6.0.6.1769 (301769) Public, I was dismayed to find there is apparently no way to search the contents of just my notebooks vs all my notebooks and all notebooks that are shared with me. In earlier versions it was possible to select All Notebooks or My Notebooks when searching - while there may be a way of searching just my notes, I have yet to find it. Can anyone shed light on this? I have searched the forum for posts on this - but perhaps am doing something wrong? Thanks for any help...
  2. Please, Please, Please - I will pay a premium please give me format painter in the editor, why is it not there?
  3. I have a folder that I want to have on my Evernote only on my local computer. I don't want it to sync on-line or to my other devices. I thought I had done it to one of my folders but not sure and don't know how to check.
  4. Hello, all. Since a recent reinstall, my font size is tiny and I can't find where to adjust it. It is not in the Note Panel but in the Left Panel and Note List. Please advise if you can. Thanks
  5. Today we released Windows 6.17 beta 2. It's available here! What’s in 6.17 beta 2? Fixed: - Client crashes on initial downsync - Fixed several crashes that prevented users from merging 2 notes in space view from main menu - Improved Shared with me functionality - Cursor jumps to the beginning of note body during sync while editing a note in a shared notebook - CTRL + N for new note creates a note in default notebook instead of current notebook - Multi select view automatically appears when using "Screenshot" button and CTRL + V
  6. Hi, I've been having an issue with Evernote's Outlook 2016 Clipper for the past week. The tags don't appear to sync from the Outlook Clipper to Evernote. Everthing else appears to sync ok (contents of email, title, notebook), but none of the tags are syncing up. I've made sure that I was signed in correctly. I've reinstalled evernote and the outlook clipper. Still doesn't work. Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions on what can be done?
  7. Evernote urgently needs a way to clear recent search history. I see that people have been asking for this for years, and yet it's still not an option. Where is it even stored? I can't find it in any file, or in the registry. I tried uninstalling Evernote to clear it, and my recent searches came right back after I reinstalled. While trying to find out if this is currently possible, I came across one person who accidentally entered a password in his search history, and another who entered her SSN in the search box to find a PDF, where it is now stuck for anyone to find. Evernote has a serious security problem if its users can't control their own sensitive data.
  8. Today we released Windows 6.17 beta 1. It's available here! What’s in 6.17 beta 1? New: - Now there’s one easy place to find everything that’s been shared with you, including notes and notebooks. It’s a new feature called “Shared with Me,” and it’s in the sidebar below “Notebooks.” We think you’ll love it. Fixed: - Notes go missing if all of them are dragged and dropped from one shared notebook to another shared notebook - User can't remove a tag from a new note after doing a search using the same tag name - Performance issues with note loading - Sharing a notebook with new member of Business account shows as external sharing - Fixed several crashes
  9. Hello, I'd like to report a problem I'm having when copying content from Edge browser and pasting it on a note. If I copy some google maps info, when I try to paste it on a note it takes too long to get the content on the note, and it keeps saying "note responding" while at it.
  10. With windows or mac ,is there any way to use password when open everynote?
  11. Hi there, Running into an issue where Evernote has not synced for days. Activity log says this: 22:33:37 [1700] Client synchronization finished, status: failed22:33:37 [1700] * error: Sync failed due to unexpected problem server side What can I do to resolve this issue? This happens despite multiple restarts.
  12. I'm running Evernote 6.13.12 (Beta 3), but this behavior also occurred in the latest non-beta release. Windows 10 Version 1803 Build 17134.81 ********************** After copying an image from Snagit 2018 to the clipboard, I attempted to paste the image into a note. Regardless of whether I use the shortcut key or the Edit menu paste options, the image does not appear. The cursor moves to the right the width of the image, but then just stays there. The image is not visible. This problem is new, and may be related to Windows 10 Version 1803 because the problem did not exist prior to that. Also, the default hot key for paste (Ctrl-Alt-V) does not paste, but causes a new blank note to be created. If I reassign Ctrl-V to the paste operation, I get the same result: a new note gets created instead of a paste operation occurring. If I save the Snagit image to disk, then drag-drop it to Evernote, that works. But it's annoying that clipboard operations are broken. <rant>I am so annoyed at common things that break whenever an update occurs that I'm thinking of giving up on Evernote altogether.</rant>
  13. I had commented on an previous thread but it had gotten a bit sidetracked and I want to make sure this issue is visible. Since 6.9.6.6729 or the release before that, I'm finding a significant amount of notes appearing blank on the Windows desktop client. The notes are not actually blank, I can see the content when I look at them in the web version. It seems to be affecting notes that I've clipped from the web using the Chrome Evernote Web Clipper extension. I've found notes clipped years ago that are affected as well as recent clips. Perhaps this is a bug with the Chrome Web Clipper somehow but never had this issue (or at least noticed) until this year. I'm inclined to believe the bug is in the Windows Desktop client though given that that notes are fully visible on the web interface. Attaching a screenshot of one example as well as the text pulled from the log. If there is any action I can take to provide further data to resolve this issue please let me know.
  14. UPDATED Monday, October 22, 2018: There's been a slight change in the Evernote.com code, which rendered the previous version of this fix unusable. The version in this message (message #1) will now work with newer versions of Evernote (6.16.2 and later), as well as older ones, going back to September 2017). You must have Swiss File Knife (SFK), a free program, to make this patch; see below for how to get it. WOOHOO! As of September 19, 2017, forum member Ashetty has got this working again! Get a copy of Swiss File Knife here, then see this comment for instructions and kiss those glaring white note backgroungs goodbye! THANK YOU, ASHETTY! If you've used versions of my patch before, here's the tl;dr: after backing up your Evernote.exe file and closing Evernote, this command will do the trick; feel free to substitute a different hex color string for #b2b1b3, which is a shade of gray (I'm partial to #c0dcc0 myself, which is a pale green), leaving the semicolon and two spaces before the slash intact; whatever hex color you specify will appear as the background color for your notes: sfk rep Evernote.exe -firsthit -text "/-webkit-touch-callout: text;/background-color: #b2b1b3; /" -yes sfk rep Evernote.exe -firsthit -text "/-webkit-touch-callout:text;/background-color:#b2b1b3; /" -yes You may require administrator privileges to make this work. As of Evernote for Windows 6.6.1.5097 Prerelease, which came out on or about 21 May 2017, a new editor is used for the Evernote desktop client. The technique described below NO LONGER WORKS WITH THIS NEW EDITOR. All the more reason for Evernote itself to finally give us proper dark theme! NOTE: April 2016: This technique also works fine with the new Evernote for Windows 6.0 client. I find the glaring-white background of the Windows Evernote client impossible to use for extended periods. I solved the problem for the Web version by writing a custom style sheet, which you can get here: https://userstyles.org/styles/110978/evernote-with-less-eyestrain But I really needed a solution for the Windows client, the entreaties of many users for a dark/nighttime theme having fallen on deaf ears at Evernote for years now: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/45681-please-dark-theme/ And so I went spelunking and found where Evernote.exe actually codes for the white background in the display of notes. This doesn't affect the actual content of the note (if you export it, the .enex file is identical to what it would have been before you made this change), or how other people see your notes (they'll still see them with a white background). It only affects the display of notes on your own computer. However, this ONLY changes the display IF you have the following checked in your Windows Evernote client: Tools | Options | General | Enable beta features and updates The attached batch file will automate the entire process of making the change, but you'll need Stahlwork's free Swiss File Knife to run the file, or, if you're savvy with a hex editor, just read the comments in the batch file to make the changes by hand: http://sourceforge.net/projects/swissfileknife/files/ I've attached the batch file as EN-color.txt, but you'll need to rename it to EN-color.bat before running it (the forum software here doesn't allow uploading with files with the extension. bat). Look over its contents with any text-file viewer so you can see precisely what it's going to do. You'll have to re-run this batch file each time you install an Evernote update (which is why I automated the process), but it only takes a second to run. The net result will be as in the photo attached: a light-gray background for notes against a darker gray workspace (you can adjust the colors to other values by editing the batch file, if you wish). I've tested this on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit and Windows XP Pro 32-bit. Before running it, you will need to edit the batch file to have the proper pathing for your files. And you need to quit Evernote before applying the patch (exit the Evernote program, then right-click on the Evernote tray icon and select "Quit Evernote"). Note: if you have trouble applying the patch (you get error messages when the batch file runs), do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Windows Task Manager and close all Evernote processes, which might include Evernote.exe, EvernoteClipper.exe, and EvernoteTray.exe, then try the patch again. All best wishes! Rob EN-COLOR.TXT
  15. In 5.9.9.9915 Windows desktop running Win 8.1 64 bit When I cut a line containing a checkbox at the beginning of the line and then paste it, the checkbox *looks like* it is placed inside another. This appears to be just a visual problem. If I go to another note and come back, the odd visual effect with the "box in box" effect is gone.
  16. As paying subscriber, I have an issue with the upgrade button constantly appearing every time I sync. It is marketing spam, Get rid of that button, People downgraded from Premium to plus for a reason AND we won't be upgrading, I am really annoyed with Evernote lately, the ios Upgrade was a disaster coupled with price increases do not justify the functionality. Sort it out.
  17. I've finally bitten the bullet (and a chewy bullet it is too) and updated to v. 6.15 of the Windows program, skipping over the bugginess of versions 6.8 and following. One thing I knew was that some keyboard shortcuts had changed in the interval, so I just went through the whole set. I found that there are several that are still undocumented in the online Help article on shortcuts. Here are the ones I found: Application-wide: Ctrl + Shift + I = Display Note Info (no longer starts a new Ink note) Application-wide: Shift + Alt + T = Search Tags (not Jump to Tags, as the documentation says, unless that's meant to be the same thing) Editor: Ctrl + Shift + Up Arrow / Down Arrow = Make selected text superscript/subscript (see a post by @emerick here) Editor: Tab at end of table to insert new row (not documented in the Help article on tables either) Left Panel & Note List: use of Tab / Shift + Tab to move among panels Note List: Ctrl + Alt + L = Copy Internal Link to the clipboard Note List: Not really a keyboard shortcut, but really useful info that doesn't seem to be documented anywhere (except this post by @CalS): Right click a note and press Ctrl when selecting Copy Internal Link to copy an external link to the clipboard, that is, a link that will open the note in the Evernote program from elsewhere in Windows (e.g., a desktop shortcut or a link in a document) @Shane D., sorry to flag you down, but I wonder if these could be passed along to whoever works on documentation and help. Evernote has a great set of shortcuts, but undocumented ones aren't too useful.
  18. The lack of this feature is frustrating, and it looks like Mac has it (as usual only the mac version is more complete) Behavior should be CTRL + scroll wheel or CTRL + "+ or -" to zoom in and out in a note. Simple feature, all browsers, all word processing programs and other note taking apps like onenote have it. Even evernote has it, but just for mac? Hope you agree. Regards,
  19. Windows 10, build 1803. When using the Evernote clipper in Edge, it quickly renders the email as if it is going to clip it, then it goes blank and the top of the message where the subject is reverts to "undefined." Then the clipper preview changes to Undefined as well. This is a recent happening as far as I can tell - last week or so.
  20. In the notes list (middle pane), I enter a search term, which filters the displayed notes. I click one of the notes and start editing it. I switch to an app, and then switch back to Evernote. But when I start typing, the insertion pointer either disappears, or moves to the top of note. For example, if I press the down arrow, I expect the blinking cursor to move down one line so I can edit the next line. Instead, the blinking cursor disappears, and the entire note scrolls down as if the note hasn't been clicked in. If I switch apps again and return to Evernote, now the blinking cursor is at the top of the note, instead of where I left it. This seems to only happen when I have a search term entered in the middle pane and when modified notes are synced. Once I remove the search term from the middle pane, then the insertion pointer mostly stays where I left it. The instability of the insertion pointer is very annoying and is driving me to other note taking tools. I have similar insertion pointer problems on Evernote for iOS.
  21. EDIT: FIXED WITH WORK-AROUND. In the interest of cutting to the chase and helping any google-searchers to find the solution many of us are using, I'm posting that work-around here at the top of the thread. To see my original problem and post, read below. The problem of regular freeze-ups while typing, inserting, or modifying notes via the windows client (which seems to present to users with very large databases) is somehow related to the client using the network in the background. The solution is to create a windows firewall rule blocking evernote.exe while you are using evernote (typing, dropping in graphics, moving notes, whatever). This completely eliminated the freezing for me. Then when you are finished creating or modifying content, you can disable the firewall rule and let the client sync. My workaround lets me just click a shortcut to block evernote (and allow me to use the client without freeze ups), and then allow me to unblock it instantly when done, and will even automatically unblock it after a set time (in case I forget). Still hoping Evernote decides to fix this properly someday. Here are the detailed instructions on how I got my Windows client working again: http://www.evernote.com/l/ALrsBe2IrjdFfbGIOZYVpxRJAOUnjFZD2f4/ Hope it helps. Cheers. ---------- ORIGINAL POST: Hello everyone. Looking for some suggestions to speed up my windows client. I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing the same issues I am, and if the community (or support) have any workarounds. Essentially, here's the situation: My windows clients on all machines have become so slow they are virtually impossible to use. Regular tasks like typing multiple sentences, changing notebooks on a note, adding tags to a note, or even scrolling through a list of notes has stops constantly at somewhat random intervals. The gui freezes (and shows not responding) for sometimes 4 to 5 seconds at a time. And this will typically happen every two or three sentences or so, whether the client is currently syncing or not. Before we start, know that the slow speed is universal through all of my windows computers (multiple decent speed desktops 1 to 2 years, surface book i7, surface pro, etc.) and has been the same across all of the last 5+ versions of the windows client. All of my computers have SSDs (with the database, OS, and Windows client installed on the SSD) and reasonable performance. The problem I suspect the problem is linked to the enormous size of my database. Since I run my business with 68+ employees and 6k+ customers off the system, my database is around 65K notes taking up around 40GB. I realize that I am approaching the 100k note limit quickly (perhaps by the end of this year I'll need to remove some anyway), but I'm wondering if there might be a work around to not have to cut down the database and still have the clients workable. The slowness appears to be entirely related to CPU usage. Monitoring my resources, the SSDs have no trouble keeping up under nearly all circumstances. The CPU however is pegged every few seconds while the gui is being used. (Or rather, since the client seems to be single-threaded, one core is pegged.) The application seems not be multi-threaded in any meaningful fashion, and I can only assume that some background table queries are taking place regularly based upon what I am typing. I could certainly understand if searches were slow with a database my size, or even tagging (since the tag table must be loaded in memory each time a tag is typed, to search for a matching tag name). But there seems to be no reason to have this sort of CPU stall out with things as simple as typing or scrolling through notes. And when it stalls my GUI completely stops responding for 1 to 5 seconds. I have disabled all syncing (in case instant sync or background sync or similar was the problem), and this has not helped. I realize that evernote maintains some kind of word token table for searching. Perhaps this word token table is being searched at regular intervals based up words typed, in order to provide the [completely unused by me] context function? Or perhaps the text I am typing right now is being tokenized at intervals (this should be extremely fast) and then inserted appropriately into the token table at the same intervals (which would probably be where the freezing occurs). Even now as I type this very message in a new note in the windows client my cursor routinely freezes and cues up my keystrokes, only to insert them some seconds later. I have very little experience in database driven applications (and am doing a lot of guessing here), but it seems like a simple decoupling of the interface from the background table queries, token insertion, and the like via multi-threading would easily solve this problem. I realize that is likely low on the priority list of things to accomplish for Evernote, so what I'm really looking for here is a work-around. The first and most obvious solution would be for me to remove a large number of notes (and perhaps place them in a second evernote account). This I am prepared to do, but it's not exactly Plan A. This would be a pretty comfortable solution if we were able to have two accounts on Android devices which we could switch between. I'd be happy to pay the money for a second premium account. Then I would simply keep most of my older notes in the second (slower) account, and could access them easily (if more slowly) by switching accounts on either my windows clients (already possible) or my android devices (not possible as far as I can discover). As there doesn't seem to be the ability to switch accounts on an android device (without deleting my 40GB account and re-downloading the other each time) this solution would mean I wouldn't have access to the older notes when I was away from my windows pcs. Does anyone have any suggestions of other work-arounds? Can anyone think of any guesses as to what the background lookups/etc. causing the high CPU usage actually are, and how I might disable that functionality to be able to use the client again? Can I disable context lookup, just in case that helps? I assume if the holdup is the insertion of tokens into the main search table at regular intervals, that is core functionality that I won't be able to disable from the GUI. I thought I would see what you all think before I spend hours and hours developing a plan on what data to make inaccessible on my mobile devices. Thanks in advance for your help, and Happy New Year!
  22. OK before you type search the board, I have and the fixes dont work. A new problem that I am experiencing is that when I forward a message from outlook to Evernote it strips the attachment. If I forward the same email to my gmail account and then forward to evernote then it works. The reason that i forward is that the evernote clipper works 10% of time and only after I have installed a new version of Evernote. I am running outlook 2013 and Evernote for Windows. Bryan
  23. Evernote does not currently support the new "shape writing" on the narrow keyboard in windows 10. It is possible to type one letter at a time but it is not possible to "draw" words, swiftkey/swype style. This works in edge, onenote, etc but does not work in evernote. This is the best way to type when using a windows 10 device as a tablet and supporting this would go some way towards creating a usable tablet experience for evernote. More information on the shape writing keyboard: https://www.windowscentral.com/5-lesser-known-features-coming-windows-10-fall-creators-update https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/06/08/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-16215-pc-build-15222-mobile/
  24. I have a large table (10 columns x 1000 rows) in a LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet. I was hoping to simply copy/paste into EN's new tables, but that doesn't work as all the data is pasted into one cell of the table. Is there a way to accomplish this without doing a cell by cell copy/paste? I'm not looking to merely link from EN to the spreadsheet; I wish to transfer the data from the spreadsheet into an EN table (and delete the spreadsheet once all the data is transferred into EN).
  25. Hi, I've installed Evernote from the Windows App Store on a freshly installed Windows 10 instance. It's all fine except it is not starting on logon despite me having checked "start on windows logon" from the system tray icon options menu (after manually starting Evernote). Is this a known issue (start on logon not working) and is there a work around? I'm using Evernote 6.5.4.4720 (304720) Public Windows 10 Pro, Version 1703, OS Build 15063.483 If I close Evernote the system tray icon remains but it does not appear until I've manually started it. I can see that the log files do not get written too until I manually start Evernote so it does not appear to be stealthily starting up. I can't see a startup item in task manager either (if that is what it normally does). Before I rebuilt my PC I was using the downloaded version and it started up fine. I could go back to that but I'd prefer the Windows App Store version if possible. Thanks.
