  1. Nice to haves for keyboarding mavens: An application-wide shortcut for toggling display of reminders in the views that support them (Snippet, Card, Thumbnail). This should expand or retract the reminder list at the top view lists. Ctrl+Alt+R anyone? Editor shortcuts to Add, Clear, Mark as Done, Add/Change Reminder Date. Anyone's guess which specific shortcut keys are available. Cheers!
  2. This morning I tried to look at the note history of a note, and I discovered, to my horror, that the note histories in all my many notebooks have disappeared (even though I have been a Premium subscriber for many years). Is this the result of some obvious blunder on my part? I certainly have used note histories in the past.
  3. Hello, I think of this behavior as a bug: When clicking a note link, the note list changes from "all notes" to the notebook where the target note is located. I think expected behavior is to stay in "all notes". This of course is a problem when running a search and not realizing one is not searching all notebooks. 6:22.1 beta
  4. Hello, New to Business Evernote, I also have the basic evernote for my personal use which I switch between with business. I just signed up, and am starting to organize information. I created some notes and somehow they all got duplicated. I tried to delete/remove the duplicate notebooks but the remove/delete are grayed out on all of them. Even the default notebook I'm unable to delete. Help!
  5. I might be a little late to the spell check discussion party, but I just noticed F7 doesn't work at all, in spite of being mentioned in the help page as calling the spell checker. Yes, I am aware a different help page says the following: "There's no spell check feature built into Evernote for Windows. However, you can right-click a word to see spelling correction suggestions based on your operating system's capabilities." However, I was trying to see if I could disable automatic spell checking and just use F7 as needed. I guess something that obvious is not possible, huh.
  6. I recently did a full-blown Evernote Windows reinstall. My screen captures are now trying to add tags automatically. The smart feature is not very smart and assigns non-related tags. I want to be the decision maker. Is there a way to completely turn off this auto-tagging?
  7. Today we released Windows 6.21 GA. It's available here! What’s in 6.21 GA? Fixed: - If you opened a notebook by double-tapping your touchscreen, all the notes in it would be duplicated. Admittedly this was a bit of an overreaction, so we fixed it. - The app was changing some characters in your hyperlinks, which meant they wouldn’t work on other Evernote clients. But it should be smooth surfing now. - In Work Chat, names with Japanese and Korean characters would sometimes be changed to Kanji or question marks. That was no help to anyone, but thankfully it’s a thing of the past. - We took care of a few other issues that were causing the app to crash.
  8. I am working on converting some AH scripts for EN into EXE files, so far so good, except EN displays a message every single time: "You are about to open executable file "some-file.exe". Are you sure you want to open this file?" A forum search suggests stopping this is not currently supported, so now it is a request.
  9. Just curious about this phrase I keep seeing, Evernote "notebook kingdom". Seems an odd way to refer to the notebook list. I did a forum search and a google search, it seems to be used exclusively during beta discussions (Windows & Mac specifically). Even the help pages don't seem to use it. Which means this might be the first topic outside the beta discussions using it.
  10. I want to install on my SSD, D:\, not my NVME, C:\. How can I do this? Thanks!
  11. Question: Is it possible to retrieve a classic note link ("evernote:///...") to a note directly from the user interface? Background: RClick on a note only offers "Copy Internal Link (Ctrl-Alt-L)" which ends in a "https://..."-URL to be inserted in other documents (like Excel, Word, ...) On a MAC someone tolds me to press an "option button" after RClick to find the command - but on Windows, I've neither an Option-Button available nor does CTRL work :-( My current workaround is to paste the internal link to a (new, temp.) note text then RClick on this new inserted text and "Edit..." the link. Within the small dialog, I can Cut&Paste the internal syntax string... But this is time wasting and complicated...
  12. I have a small question about tables. I've done some experiments with them, because I want to provide a non-white background to my text notes. I created a single-cell table with a satisfactory color in Word, pasted it into Evernote, and did some minor tweaking. At that point I had a pleasant-looking table that I could add to the list of standard templates. But then I discovered there was a serious problem with resizing the tables. If I make the table fairly narrow, it looks good on my phone but rather awkward on my computer screen; if I make the table wider, then it works better on my computer than on my phone (where text starts to run off the right edge of the screen). I gather that the tables created in Evernote do not automatically enlarge or contract according to the size of the screen. I'm under the impression that this question may have been discussed before on this forum. Has anyone come up with a solution?
  13. Today we released Windows 6.20 GA. It's available here! New: *Improved automated file splitting Fixed: *Links to Google Drive documents created in Evernote Windows 6.19 now work in Evernote Web *Attachments created through notes in a separate window now save properly *Images copied from Chrome via "Copy image" paste as broken attachment
  14. Copying a large amount of plain text from Evernote into Windows Notepad will remove all hard returns, rendering the text a huge jumbled mess, particularly if the text was encrypted,. This apparently doesn't happen with a smaller amount of text. It is repeatable, though not always consistent. it seems to happen most consistently with encryption. I am using 6.20 beta 1, it was present in previous version, don't know how far back. I use Notepad to check for formatting problems from copied text, before pasting it into other programs.
  15. I have reported corruption of encrypted data before, but I didn't know the cause, now I do: When double clicking on encrypted text, if the mouse moves slightly, resulting in accidentally dragging the encrypted icon, the icon will become permanent and the encrypted data will be lost, decryption will no longer be accesible. This is repeatable, and I believe it is not version dependent since I have seen it before, though I have the latest version. This is a big problem for those of us who don't have note history (Plus & free accounts).
  16. Could not locate this topic while searching, so here is my suggestion: Clicking on the arrow on the right side of a tag in a note shows you all the notes with that same tag, but if you want to add that tag to shortcuts, you have to locate it first in the tag list. It would be helpful to be able to do it from the note (or even from the notelist), maybe as one of the menu options when you right click on the tag .
  17. Today we released Windows 6.19 GA. It's available here! What’s in 6.19 GA? New: * Automated file splitting on export of enex files. We are making it easier to backup and import files, especially on file systems that do not support large files or systems with low memory... * Security update Fixed: * Fixed an error in export option when selecting all notes (Ctrl + A) * Cursor jumps to beginning of note body during sync while editing note in shared notebook * Fixed an issue with changing Evernote DB location
  18. Is there a straightforward way of organizing by date in Evernote? I'm creating a large bibliography and need to be able to move frequently back and forth between sorting by author's name (which I can easily do when sorting on Title) and by date of publication. I've experimented with putting the date at the beginning of the title line (e.g. "2009-10-28 — [surname] — [abbreviated title]"), and that works well enough, but it means that I can no longer sort by author's name. (And it looks a bit clunky.) I wonder if it would be possible to modify the date in the "Created" column for this purpose? I sometimes need to identify the most recently modified ("Updated") notes, but I almost never need to sort them by date of creation. Hence the loss of the creation date wouldn't particularly bother me. However, I'm not sure that any of the attributes such as Updated and Created can even be modified. Can they? I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
  19. Just a rant - I know what the final solution will be. The infamous uninstall and reinstall of my 30,000 notes. Me: A couple of weeks ago, I upgraded my Evernote Windows to version 6.18.4.849 (308489) Public. Me: The program would randomly shut down with no warning and no error message a few times during the week. Evernote would not start up again unless I rebooted. Me: So I submitted a support ticket and requested that Evernote tech review my activity log first, before I resorted to the standard Evernote response (a complete uninstall / reinstall / resync). ES: Support responded with 4 bullet points, but no comment about my activity log * Sign out your Evernote account * Clear cache * Perform to reboot * Log back in ES: If you're unsuccessful, please attach the screen recording detailing the issue. ES: You can provide a screen recording using Jing, a free third-party application. Me: Alarm bells going off in my head. Did he read and understand my support request? I did tell him this was a random occurrence. And I noticed there is a warning on Jing's home page. "NOTE: Jing’s current video format (.swf) will no longer be supported by web browsers soon. You can still capture images with Jing, but if you need an all-in-one solution for image and video capture, we recommend trying Snagit." Me: Sounded fishy to me. I wondered if English was his native language. So I asked him what he meant by "Perform to reboot". (Was he using Google Translator to create his replies?) Me: He did not explain, but went in a different direction. ES: Glad you replied back, and sorry for the confusion it has caused you. ES: Can you confirm if you recently created a note with attachment? Me: He asked me to copy the content of each note into a new note, delete the original note, empty the trash and sync Evernote. Me: During the month of May, I created 218 notes. 159 of those notes have attachments. I asked him if he wants me to make copies of the 159 notes, and delete the 159 originals. Me: There has been no Evernote Support response yet.
  20. OCR result is showing, but the yellow highlight is solid: Any way I can fix this? Thanks! Just as a side note, very impressed with OCR. Improved dramatically since I last used it a year or two ago.
  21. Today we released Windows 6.18 GA. Its available here! Whats in 6.18? New: You don’t have time to hunt through menus, so we added some new shortcuts, like: - FindInEvernote: Ctrl+Shift+F - CaptureScreen: Ctrl+Alt+S - CopySelection: Ctrl+Shift+Alt+A Fixed: - Printing a note with a PDF in it no longer prints a blank page first. Take that, "Big Paper”! - We embiggened the “Save as template” icon, so it’s easier to see on HiDPI (that’s really high resolution) screens. Yay, buzzwords! - Files you drag into Evernote will now stay where you put them. Seems obvious, right? We thought so too.
  22. How do you create a saved search for a note that uses unsearchable characters for the title? I suppose I could create a tag for just such a note to use as a saved search, but I was hoping for some way of using the note link. Barring that, I guess a special tag is currently the best available option. Changing the title and using special keywords in the body are a bit impractical for my use case in frequently changing notes. I currently use shortcuts for this, but I tend to use saved searches to save space on the shortcut bar, and during particularly heavy sessions I remove all shortcuts except the ones I am currently working with, hence the additional need to backup and restore my regular shortcuts as saved searches. It's an organizing issue, not really a big deal, just hoping for clues other than what I already mentioned. (Yes, I do use Dashboards notes with links, and table of contents, just hoping to work with saved searches.) (Platform options include Windows, Android & iOS, if that matters).
  23. Hi This morning got this message on EN for PC (Win 10 64bit): Could not open Evernote database in "C:\Users\xxxx\Evernote\Databases\XXXXX.exb Error: CANT_OPEN_DATABASE Please verify that the path is accessible and try again I've uninstalled and tried reinstalling twice but still get the same error. and I can't even move / rename / delete the .exb file as it says: EN is Installed on Samsung SSD , SMART tests all ok. Tried stopping all processes, multiple restarts doesn't help. Will try to chdsk now? [On a side-note: I've been using the Windows Experimental preview v.1.2.296 (that i had installed but had to update) as a back up but unfortunately it's missing several features that make life easier for me and that i'm used to.] How to fix / delete / rename / move / redownload the .exb file please? Please advise urgently as I have a severe case of notetaking OCD and need things up and running asap please. Thank you
  24. Many of us use special characters at the beginning of tags to sort them and easily call groups of tags, but some of them which work in tags, have no effect whatsoever in sorting. It would be more convenient if they did sort since they are more conveniently located in the keyboard than others which could replace them, and their small size is more appealing than larger characters. So far they are the following: " ' - there maybe others.
  25. Hello, I have a stacked hierarchy of tags on the left panel which I keep displayed during the week, but on weekends I hide most of them under another stack so I can focus on other things, then on Mondays I right click on each hidden stack and click "Move to Top Level" so that I can have my usual hierarchy for the work week. The problem is that "Move to Top Level" is dangerously close to "Unassign from All Notes". One wrong click and I lose the tags for thousands of notes without warning (even Note History would be no help in such a scenario) Since Unassign is a necessary function, I am asking for a confirmation step before taking action, preferably with a check box in Options for those who do not require this. Either that, or at least assign "Move to Top Level" to a different, safer location in the right click menu. It makes sense to me that anything involving the mass altering of thousands of notes should have a confirmation warning, when deleting or removing them at least.
