  1. Hi. I'd like to be able to filter out notes based on tags. For example if I tagged notes I've read with "#read" it would be nice to filter out those to see which notes I haven't read. Thanks!
  2. Huge fan of Evernote. I use it as my personal filing system for all of my scanned documents. Embracing the "true way" of Evernote, I have only 8 notebooks, meaning each notebook has hundreds of notes, but I make thorough use of tags. There are many files that I need to access offline (especially for traveling), such as my ID, passport, medical licenses, insurance card, etc. Right now, I have to make my entire "Personal Documents" notebook available offline, meaning there are hundreds of unnecessary notes taking up space on my phone. I would love the ability to select a tag for offline availability, or to anoint individual notes for offline, a la Dropbox.
  3. Hi, Today I finally installed EN5 to see whether the initial issues I read about in this forum have been resolved. On EN4 I can nest tags created by someone else, in a notebook they shared with me, into a main category (called, for example, NOT MY TAGS). Doing so keeps their tags out of my visual field, and they don't disrupt my workflow with my own tag hierarchy. On EN5, however, I could only nest the tags I'd created myself, not the ones from a shared notebook. Those tags appeared flat, on a hierarchical level identical to my personal tags' main level. Every single one of them was followed by the email address of the notebook owner. I like knowing whose tag it is (especially when it's something long and too detailed like "bread_suppliers_benjamin_franklin_stone_bakery_2013_may"), but for me the final effect of not being able to nest them is that of EVC: Extreme Visual Clutter. I also couldn't find a way to make those tags disappear by selecting only my own notebooks. For me, having other people's tags in my face all the time is a dealbreaker. Someone shares a notebook with me, and their tags are more important than my own? Perhaps pertinent distinctions: Was running EN5 on an XP computer; EN4 on Windows 7; Was running EN5 on a free account; EN4 on a premium. Does this happen with premium accounts on Windows 7? If so, is it by design or is it a bug? Thanks, Lena
  4. The old version of EvernoteWeb could help in search when I wanted to search with more tags and words. I have a lot of tag, and I miss the tag autocomplete function. It is very annoying that I have to type everything (and correctly!) each time, like: tag:bar tag:"multiple words tag" foo text Please (re)add autocomplete function when I type "tag:" in the search field to help and speed up searching.
  5. Using Tags as Pseudo Notebooks (pNB) [Note: At the urging of another user, I have started a new topic for this subject. I posted the below originally in Jan 2016. I am in the process of rewriting, fine-tuning this article, but for now the below is a copy of my original post at Using Tags as Pseudo Notebooks . The basic design of pNB has not changed.] My knowledge of how to use Tags continues to evolve. This has been largely due to limitations Evernote has placed on Notebooks. So, the question is: How does one make the best use of the tool they have? Notebooks (NB) are limited to 250. Tags are virtually unlimited at 100,000. Tags can have a hierarchical structure of Parent Tag / Child Tag, much like the folders that you see on your computer. So, if we can model NBs as Tags, then we can effectively have unlimited NBs and sub-NBs. One of the most appealing features of Notebooks (and folders) is how they visually appear. But what if we can do the same visual layout with Tags? Stay tuned to learn how. I use tags in two fundamentally different ways: Pseudo Notebooks -- use in place of where you would normally use a notebook. This includes sub-notebooks. Note Categorization -- traditional use of tags to categorize the entity, which can have multiple tags. Can be used across Notebooks, or in this case, across pseudo NBs. Using Tags as Pseudo Notebooks Tags can be organized in hierarchies (meaning Parent-Child relationship). So we can achieve the appearance of Notebooks and sub-notebooks, Without going into a lot of detail at this point, I have created a number of Tags which serve as pseudo Notebooks. Note that all of the pseudo NBs, actually tags, all have a prefix of ".NB.", which makes it easy to identify which tags are pseudo NBs, and will cause them to appear at the top of the Tag list. You can, of course, use any prefix that works for you. One great advantage of using tags as pseudo NBs, is that you can assign multiple pseudo NBs to the same Note. Can't do that with actual NBs. Each Note can belong to only one NB. So this allows me, for example, to assign multiple pseudo NBs of .NB.IT, .NB.Business, and .NB.Personal to the same Note, which is the asset record for a new Mac, used in both business and personal activities. Now when I search or filter on any of the 3 pseudo NBs it will find the asset record of my Mac. I now have all of my pseudo NBs that appear at the top of my Tag list, and the pseudo NBs can, and do, have sub-pseudo NBs. Here's an example: As a result, I now have a need for ONLY 3 main Notebooks, plus any Notebooks needed for sharing or mobile offline use: Please feel free to post any questions or comments. EDIT: Mon, Feb 29, 2016 at 12:36:27 PM CST For more discussion on pseudo notebooks, see Using Tags as Pseudo Notebooks (original post) Do you find lots of notebooks or notebook stacks useful?
  6. Many of us work primarily from a tablet, I work from iPad. There are many usability features missing from iOS that makes using Evernote extremely inconvenient. On iOS though we can see our tags, we cannot rename nor delete them. On iOS there is not a way to export our notes to a .enex On iOS there is not a way to import a .enex Those three missing feature are a tablet user’s Evernote deal breaker. Being able to work around them we must get to a computer. Many road warriors gave up on desktop computers, and as their laptops give up the ghost they are moving to tablets. I know some that gave away their laptops preferring the convenience of a tablet. Evernote’s web UI is abysmal, sorely lacking in features. Come-on Evernote, you need to put much more effort for us tablet users. Be aware, Bear and OneNote now have extremely good Evernote .enex import ability.
  7. Hello When I started with evernote, I didn't study well how to organize notebooks and tags. So i did it a little bit spontaneous, as much people do. As a result, i have a lot of unusefull tags and i have notebooks who should be tags. After a few months i understand I have to reorganize my notebooks and tags. I have a lott of notes and a lot of tags, when i must do this, note by note and tag by tag this is impossible for me. For the notebooks, it is not a problem since it is easy to take all the notes in a notebook and put it in another notebook.in one action. But for the tags it is a big problem. It should be possible to give a same tag to many notes in one action and not note by note. It should also be usefull to delete many tags with one move or to give many tags the same name in one move. It should be a great help for me if someone has tips for me, how to do this, thanks for answering, Tony
  8. I often use a lot of tags with my notes, and I'd love a way to be able to view all tags on a given note at a glance (no scrolling). I recognize this could be a real estate problem for the browser view, but it seems reasonable for the Information popup -- I want it to be more informative! This request would be for all platforms.
  9. A wish list, I guess. I clip a lot of stories, articles, reviews – for research, or the basis for further work. This involves subsequent organization into overlapping and constantly developing areas of interest. I find myself wanting to be able to do two things: 1. Highlight and annotate text in notes. I know you can do this with pdfs, but I wish I could highlight text selections or add comments to things in notes – much in the way I might use a highlighter in a physical book or notebook, or scribble some comment in the margin. 2. Add the same new tag to multiple notes. My areas of interest overlap. I notice a connection between tag A and tag B. They're separate things, but there's an overarching relationship, so I want to add a tag C. Instead of opening all the notes with tag and tag B singly, and adding the new tag to each of them, I wish I could do this with a single action. Or two actions. Search for notes with tag A, add tag C to every note on the whole list of results. Same with tag B.
  10. Hi everyone! Here's what went into last night's release. We understand it's not the full feature yet, but hopefully this will make the client easier to use for those who have hierarchical tags. Please continue to report any bugs and issues you run into. - Nancy New FeaturesView Hierarchical Tags - For users who have hierarchical tags, you will now be able to see the tags in the relationships that you've previously set. Unfortunately, we have not yet implemented the functionality to change or create new hierarchies. For now, please use the old client or a Desktop client to create or edit the hierarchy of a tag. You can continue to create new tags using the feature located at the top of notes.Shortcut Tags - For users that want easy access to certain tags, you can now add these tags to your shortcuts list. Hover over the tag & click on the Shortcuts icon, the star. Bug FixesDate formatting - For users who are outside of the US and have their Evernote preferences set to English, we will now show dates in DD/MM/YYYY format based off of your browser's language settings or if your preferred browser supports it, your OS setting. For example, users who have Chrome set to "English (United Kingdom)" as their first choice we will now see the date format as DD/MM/YYYY.Change Language Settings in Chrome BrowserChange Language Settings in Firefox BrowserLanguage Support - We've received a lot of reports that certain characters do not show up correctly in Turkish, Vietnamese, and Finnish. 11. Hey there! I want to select multiple Notes and add a certain tag to them. And deleting tags in a batch would be also nice. Kind regards, Alex
  12. The company i work for develops a note/research management system which provides an option to the clients to sync their notes to Evernote and vice versa. Hence, the system relies heavily on the Evernote api. So when the user syncs for the first time, we fetch all his notes, save them into our system and store the time at which this sync was done. In the following iterations, we fetch all the notes updated/created by the user after the last sync time stored in our system, using the NoteFilter provided by Evernote. In the existing architecture of Evernote, suppose the user adds tags to a note without modifying the content of the note, in this case we are unable to fetch this particular note using the note filter since the updated for this note isnt modified (Since, Updated for a note doesnt get modified on addition of tags to a note) . Any solutions/ work arounds for this particular problem will be appreciated. Thanks!
  13. Greg Brodsky Jan 26, 09:24 PST Hi team, I wanted to give you feedback that the way you have modified search is actually slowing me down within Evernote. When I enter search terms, the search box it now defaults to a search within that note book. notebook: (notebook:Finance will only search for notes within the 'Finance' notebook.) . However it really slows me down because I often use search to navigate, and now I have to delete the notebook before I can search for what I want. (also sometimes I think a note is gone, when really it just isnt in that notebook). I appreciate what you were trying to do defaulting a search to within a notebook, but it is really ***** a lot of us up. If search were slow, then we would want to search within a default notebook, but its not slow. So please provide an easier way to turn that default notebook on or off within the settings. thanks Greg Brodsky (premium plan and long time user) gregbrodsky@gmail.com
  14. This may not be news to power users, but I just discovered that Evernote will add tags from my search to a new note! If I put this into my search box: tag:MyTag The results show all notes tagged MyTag. If I do not clear the search box, but immediately click the New Note icon, Evernote opens a new, blank note in my default notebook. The MyTag tag is added! Is there a list of other neat tricks like this? I wonder what other time-savers I've never seen. Cheers, Mitch
  15. hi id like a shorcut to create notes with predefined tags . For example id like a shortcut from my work pc to always create notes tagged as WORK . I found the shorcut to create notes Evernote.exe /Newnote but cannot add tags like Evernote.exe /Newnote /t:WRK ..any idea ?
  16. Dear all, I have a very simple request: To switch from the title of the note to the tags field by using <tab> Right now both <tab> and <enter> take you from the title to the body of the note, skipping the tags field on the windows or mac client. I know that the shortcut <ctrl>+<alt>+<T> does bring up the tags but as a pop up field.
  17. Dear Community: I have spent HOURS trying to find an answer for this so PLEASE don't flame me if I missed it. I really tried! I have been using Evernote Premium on a Mac Retina 5k for a little over a year now and have noticed that recently it is auto-tagging one particular web-clipping. Not any others, just this one. I clip a lot of news articles, and for some reason, whenever I clip from the Washington Post, it auto-tags it for me! Which is AWESOME. But I can't figure out how to replicate it! I don't even know how it started! Can anyone tell me? THANK YOU! ~ Annie
  18. Can't add tags while using web Given the "not responding" problems using the Windows app, I'm exploring using Evernote on the web. Help https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208314388 says "At the top right of the note, click inside the 'New tag...' field at the top of the note, then enter your tag(s), or select an existing tag." However, when I click "New tag ..." nothing happens. Screenshot below. Any ideas?
  19. Problem Scenario A: I am editing tags on notes. I accidentally delete the tag from the note I’m editing… it’s the one from the search filter, So pOofff! the note disappears. I don't remember the titles if it was multiple notes. The same happens when I remove a word from a note, when having a search filter active for that word. Problem Scenario B: I restore a note from the trash: it disappears from the Trash can screen: I have to search for it again. -> it also does not show up in ‘recent notes’ in the sidebar! -> ‘Undo’ does not undo the action! (like many actions that I would like to be able to undo, in Evernote.) Or at least create a way to keep the ‘disappeared' note available in the screen, like in a mall popup on the side. Please please please, let ‘Undo’ just undo this. Related request: make the ‘recent notes’ list more sensitive, so it really lists all notes that were touched. Including the ones I only removed an innocent tag from. The way it is now, I have to kiss a note and stroke its hair before it shows up there. And please provide the option to let that list get as long as I want it. Hell, give me access to the full memory of the notes edited or clicked in any way. Thanks you vary mutch
  20. Hi, does anyone know how to make tags show up in the snippets (note previews) that show up on the right side of the screen? I'm able to see them on my ipad, but when I use evernote web in my browser, the tags do not show up. This means I have to click on each individual note to see the associated tag. Any ideas?
  21. While at meetings I like to hand write my notes and then scan them into Evernote via taking pictures on my phone app. I've recently found myself wanting Evernote to automatically add tags to the note based on what I write in my notebook. Here is an example. I keep a tag for most people I encounter in my daily life. If they are in a meeting with me, I'll tag them in the note when I create it so I can quickly find what I've collaborated with them on. I would like this to be an automatic process for all hashtag markings i.e. If I write something to the effect of #Joe_Smith or #Confidential on my paper, when I scan it into Evernote it would automatically put the tag "Joe Smith" and "Confidential" on the note. The # is just a relatable example, but could be any identifiable marking, possibly even user determined. I guess before I put this up as a feature request I should if this is already possible and I'm just not aware of how to implement it? Thanks
  22. Greetings, Within Evernote Windows or Chromebook, can I combine two tags and make them into one or have them all in one of the existing tags? More than two tags and make them into one or into one of the tags? Thank you! Tom
  23. Greetings, Is it possible to print a listing of my all tags (the names I use for tags in alphabetical order)? I want a printed out list to edit and rethink how I use tags. But I can't figure out how to print such a listing. Thank you. Tom
  24. I'm trying to sort all my When tags so that when I enter a tag starting with '!', I get the following sort in the dropdown list: !!Daily !1-Now !2-Next !3-Soon !4-Later !5-Someday !6-Waiting !9-Completed !Recur !z_Annually !z_Monthly !z_Quarterly !z_Weekly You'll see that I used 'z' to get the periodicity tags to the bottom of the sort. Is there a special character that would sort below letters? I.e., a character that I could replace 'z' with and still have my desired sort order?
  25. When editing tags for selected notes wait until I click away to re-filter the search results. (Mac)
