  1. Barry's 10.1.4 post & the update reveals no coming change for tags. EV needs a Tag Window that allows for comprehensive Tag Editing. I'd love to hear that a better Tag editing system is being given serious attention. Better yet, I'd enjoy knowing it is tasked for a coming update. Step 1 Return to a tag window with functions as it was in 7.14. Step 2 Merge multiple tags Move multiple tags Rename multiple tags Step 2 Section 2 Add these tag editing functions in the Tag pop-up menu accessed through a notes Tag-bar at the bottom of a note. IMPORTANT: Most all new tags are created in the Notes Tag-bar. I use a Tag Hierarchy system. I will have to go to the Tag-tab in order to "Move" this new tag. Thus all 10 of the newly Add +Tags with people's names from the Boston 2020 meeting will have to be "Move tag..." one at a time from the Tag-Tab. This is just painful. I create unnecessary tags due to the lack of a full listing of all tags containing the search characters. Example: Type - " wri " Get = write, writing, written criticism. The pop-up List is missing the existing tag = Hemingway writing. I create unnecessary tag ie = Writing Hemingway. [This next part is fiction hoping to become fact] Realizing my error and while still in the notes Tag-bar menu pop-up, I choose "Merge", and the note is now in Hemingway writing and Writing Hemingway is deleted in a few clicks, no window changes. Obviously, I can easily do a similar action from the Tag-bar, but I'd like to do the Merge (Combine) Tag and TAGS from the Tag Window, as part of a comprehensive Tag Editor. Will I soon see any progress this way?
  2. Please make it possible to select more than one tag at a time so that I can take action on the group and not just one tag. (Same with Notebooks) Thus I'd be able to: Move; Delete; Go Top-level; Remove from short-cuts; Create sub-tag in; and Combine; 10 tags in one click. ALSO Merge tags (combine all notes from a tag or group of tags to one target tag) A batch tag Rename editor. EV programming team, you can do this. It is long overdue. A part of a comprehensive tag editing system. Example: 34 tags are named for the participants of the Boston meeting 2020. 28 of them were originally set-up with the word Boston at the start so they'd all be together. [ie "Boston - Mary Adams"] I want to "Move" (stack) all 34 under the tag Boston Meeting 2020 [thus selecting more than one at a time]. I want to Batch Rename 28 of them eliminating "Boston - " from the beginning of the tags name as that's now unnecessary given the Tag Stack their in. A more comprehensive robust tag editing system would allow this. Do you want to encourage a greater appreciation for the new EV 10, over the nay sayers? Give them some things the legacy system will never have. And also give them a fun and proven way to randomly explore the vast note library many of us have. REQUESTING: 1) A Comprehensive Tag Editing system in the Tag window. And also accessed through the Tag bar at the bottom of a note. 2) A Finder style window in the Tag window. Using tags like folders in the finder. Tags that expands to the right, not to bottom. Select a tag from a more left pane and the right expands to all tags nested (stacked, moved) there in. And if at the note level, expands to a pane with all notes sorted by my choice of: Alpha, date, size, ascending and descending. Let me drag and drop, multi selections. Exploring the contents of my Notes via a Tag Window that displays like a Path Finder Folder Explorer window will let me see notes I'd likely never see again otherwise. But, to get the ball rolling, the next EV release must let me select multiple tags. I've over 4,000 and I expect most seasoned EV users have a lot. I've been seeing a request for a comprehensive tag editing system since at least 2015. [Also that release could let me select multiple notebooks, as did 7.14.]
  3. Hi guys, Just a quick query, I know you can create Note Links, but is there any way or if not any plans to allow Notebook links. Let me explain Our EN structure is a Notebook for each project/lead (I know the arguments about Notebooks vs Tags but it works for us ). In each notebook there is a Main Project/Lead note listing all the details of the projects/lead. We also have a Master Note that lists all the projects, leads etc and it is like an index so we can see at a glance where we are up to. At the moment in the Master Note, we have note links to the Main project/lead note, but it would be great if we could link to the Notebook not just to the Main Note, so that when we clicked on it it goes straight to the notebook. I hope this makes sense Thanks in advance, Debbie
  4. ... tomorrow afternoon? Why does this take so long? Why does it seem to be of apparently such a low priority? Is ist too difficult to implement, is there too little development capacity, or is there really too little public interest in this features? Strangely, every new iOS version (and to a certain degree also OSX version) brings other "cloudy" surprises: first a grey on grey tag cloud, and now, even "cloudier", different colors for weighing my tags, i guess to tell me how often I use each one of them. Seems as if my iPhone wants to tell me: "Don't read, just look at those nice colors - you do not remember your tags anyway". Second thought: this must be a contest! "Look, this tag is veeery dark green. You really made it to write this tag 12 times with the same letters on each of your notes. Congrats, pal". Tag, tag, tag, where do you go from here. Back on earth, what really bothers me now (apart from the meaning of life): Can one honestly keep a clear view after years in evernote, without a good sorted tag structure? - I'd like not only to search and find a note, I want to review my notes. - When my contexts are changing, my brain is changing. Fragments are changing place. Tags have to change. I must have an overview of my tags. Without hierarchy, my tags are in a black hole. - I do sort my notes hierarchically in windows, in the web, and with some more troubles even on the mac. Why not on the iPad. What I'd like to see is well organized content. What I see is stylish design with nice clouds, attracting people to throw notes at and forget about 100% everything. I heard there is a evernote version called "for business"...?
  5. Please increase tags functionality for iOS devices: 1) We need *simple* multi-tag search. 2) We need auto-populate of tag names. 3) We need the tag library to reflect our desktop organization (e.g. order, nesting, etc), just as with Notebooks. The iOS apps are horridly crippled without these functions in place. Without them, you have only a few options: 1) Do without multi-tag filtering... Do you have something tagged for a person AND as an agenda item (something to talk about next time you see that person)? Too bad, you can only pull up EVERYTHING for that person, which may include years of emails, mtg notes, etc. OR you can pull up EVERYTHING tagged as "agenda", thus including large numbers of items irrelevant to who you are actually standing with. Insert your own example of useful multi-characteristic filtering, then accept that you can't accomplish them. 2) Utilize saved searches... This works perfectly, but causes, as it has caused with my Evernote, your Shortcut list to become monstrously long defeating to some degree the idea of a "shortcut list". In the end, you choose a few definitely needed multi-tag searches and resign yourself to option #1 above for most things. 3) Attempt to use complicated boolean search strings... This works in a highly non-intuitive way AND requires you to remember the exact wording of your desired tags, often difficult in situations where you are looking for a person for instance and don't remember if you listed them as Dan or Daniel. If you utilize an extensive tag list (a strength of the desktop Evernote applications) this works almost never, thus you resort to a few items under option #2, and mostly surrender to option #1. It seems quite strange that this is an unavailable functionality, especially because of how many people tell me it WAS available prior to 2011/2012. It's a very frustrating situation which is crippling the usability of the iOS apps for easy daily use. Please fix, or at least give us some idea of why this oft asked for functionality is still unavailable. Thank you!
  6. Dear Evernote iOS development team, Please include nested tags / hierarchy into the iOS version! I finally made the move to become a premium user after discovering the the usefulness of tag nesting / hierarchy in organising notes on the Mac Evernote. Just about to port all my notes into evernote, then I realised the iOS version can't see the nested / heirarchy structure !! aagh and I've just paid for a whole year subscription ...bummer~ I understand there are tonnes of requests out there, but this seems to be a crucial notes organisation feature to be considered for inclusion? Please add this feature in line with the desktop apps please? My setup: Mac Evernote (on iMac) - for work at home iOS 8 Evernote (on iPad + keyboard) - for taking notes during work and conferences.
  7. : When I search Tags, now it suggests ones only those strictly the same in the name. It is hard when I do not remember the title completely. : I want to a list of All tags have a character in a certain manner like Alphabetically or Chronologically. Thanks!
  8. please fix this ASAP for the Mac application too (latest built 5.07). The shift and command do the same thing ie select individual tags but does not allow you to select a range of tags say for example under a nested tag list.
  9. Hi all! Afaik, Evernote search supports either boolean AND (just concatenate search terms) or boolean OR (use "any: ..."). Is there any way available now or planned for future releases to support full boolean search, that is: combine both methods. Real life example: I use Evernote to keep track of my tax records and for my yearly tax declaration. For this I have tagged all relevant notes with tags "tax", "<year>" (e.g. "2013") and "tax-longterm". Tag combinations like "tax 2013" mean "this is a document relevant for 2013 tax declaration". But there are also older documents I need each year, like rental agreement contract from 2005. For this I use the additional tag "tax-longterm". Any document tagged with "tax-longterm" means: "this is relevant for this year's tax declaration, regardless of the year with which it is tagged". So my rental agreement is tagged with "2005 tax tax-longterm". When I want to create ONE Evernote search that gives me all relevant documents for 2013 tax declaration, I'd like to search for something like "any: (tag:tax tag:2013) tag:tax-longterm" meaning: "give me all documents that are tagged with 'tax 2013' OR 'tax-longterm'". But unfortunately, Evernote search doesn't support bracketed searches or any other kind of combining search terms with AND or OR as of now. Does anybody know a trick, hack to make this work? Hacks like combining tags "tax" and "2013" into one tag "tax2013" are no good since I use the year tag for lots of other purposes and don't want to end up with a gazillion combined tags like "house2013" and "income2013". The way I do it now is to use two separate searches "tax 2013" and "tax-longterm", but this becomes tiresome when you have to switch back and forth between both. Thanks for your help! Ax
  10. Good evening, As a researcher I deal with large amounts of texts using dedicated apps like Nvivo or Atlas.ti, or for lit Qiqqa. the principle of theses QADQAS or ref manager is the same: tagging portions of texts with nodes/tags/categories so then you can do a transversal reading of all your data by category or topic. I would love to have this feature in Evernote, which I use mainly to type in and archive my field notes and web article clips. So far you can tag an entire note, but you cannot assign a particular bit of text to a tag, this is really too bad in my opinion. Other note taking software allow this feature (Microsoft couterpart) and many of my colleagues have now either started or migrated to that other software partly because they do support tagging datum/particuler selections of text. But overall I love Evernote so I wish we could have this feature in a near future. This is a long shot, but if you are a user who would also like this feature please do not hesitate to reply to this post to show your support to this request. Thanks
  11. Hi everyone, straight to the question: can I add or create a tag directly in a note text or in its title? Maybe trough a symbol like @ or #?
  12. Please help I accidentally deleted a tab with maybe another 50 sub-tabs. Which means there are around 500-600 notes that I need to re-tag, it's going to take forever! So as i recognized what I had done, I unplugged my internet to prevent it from syncing. The good news is that I checked my online account and in that version all the tabs are still there. My idea was to uninstall evernote on the PC, and then re-install it, in the hopes that it would download the old version of my database off the web. However I tried that, but when I re-installed evernote, it did not download anything. It already had all my notes there already, with the deleted tags still missing. So somehow uninstalling EN did'nt get rid on my local database. What do I do? so that I can get my online database to overwrite my local one?
  13. Hi, I have a hierarchical tag structure. But when I click on the primary/top level tag, I can't see the notes containing the sub tags, only notes with primary tags are show. I remember this feature used to be there. Couldn't find a way to do it through preferences also. Please suggest a way.
  14. Hey guys, So I think I have to review how folks use tags versus notesbook and I am now starting to get it somewhat. Lesson: Focus on less notebooks, more tags. Use tags to organize and label. Idea: When going to a notebook, be able to scroll through all tags used in that notebook Why?: Provides an insight into what all may be in that notebook and you can re-discover content you may have missed or mislabeled or misplaced Caveats: I have a notebook called "File Cabinet" and in it I store everything I collect from the series of tubes (i.e the interwebs). News articles, inspirational stories etc. This one would definitely need a scrollable list of tags used and that would be immensely helpful. Ask from other users: Please direct me to posts that you have found helpful in organizing yourself or feel free to DM.
  15. Hi, is it possible to share all items under a tag? I use tags for organization, not notebooks. Ive only shared notes, but would love to share all notes under a tag sorted by creation date. Thanks, Sebastian
  16. Hi All Quick one - for some reason can't find the shortcut to quickly toggle to the add tag box. I.e. to quickly add a tag when you're typing in a note without having to use the mouse to move the cursor up to the tags box. What is it? (see attached screenshot for example...!) Can't seem to find it here https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208313358-Keyboard-shortcuts-in-Evernote-for-Mac... Best Charlie
  17. I would like the ability to copy all the tags from one note and paste them into another note. Here is how I imagine this functionality working: Right-click a note in the Note List. Select Copy Tags from the menu. Right-click a different note in the Note List. Select Paste Tags. Both notes now contain the same tags.
  18. I find very often that lots of new notes in a notebook will use the same tags as the first note in the notebook when I am paying statements and create the notes by sharing to Evernote from a pdf... It would be so fast and easy to be able to copy the tags from the first note and paste (or share) the tags to the subsequent notes as they are created and added to the folder. Please add this feature!
  19. Add optional color-coding for tags in Evernote for Mac, so that a note with the tag "Needs work" could appear highlighted in red in my notebook, while a note with the tag "Done" could appear highlighted in green, for example. This functionality already exists, as I understand it, for Windows, but it has yet to be added to the Mac side.
  20. How exactly do tags work in shared notebooks? I am working collaboratively quite often with new users (Who I often make download and use Evernote). Suffice to say I am ussually doing most of the organisation of notes for them, to have some kind of order... The setting are users can: view and edit. I know I can tag notebooks any way I like... 1) Do they see/have access to my tags? Or Am I only one who can see the things I tag? 2) Can they add tags on a shared notebook? And if they add tags on my shared notebooks... Is it only for their eyes? Or do we all have the shared tags they decide to add? Thanks. Need to know this before I give advice for them on using tags to help me organise things systematically...
  21. I'd like to be able to use commas in tags. This is useful for creating a tag with someone's name. I'd like to be able to do "Last, First". But the prohibition on the use of the comma prevents this.
  22. Could not locate this topic while searching, so here is my suggestion: Clicking on the arrow on the right side of a tag in a note shows you all the notes with that same tag, but if you want to add that tag to shortcuts, you have to locate it first in the tag list. It would be helpful to be able to do it from the note (or even from the notelist), maybe as one of the menu options when you right click on the tag .
  23. I want also to put one note into multiple notebooks. I have reviewed previous discussion on this, and the general advice is to use tags. Getting beyond the multiple issues associated with tags (taxonomy gets really complicated with multiple tags over a period of time), having one note in multiple notebooks simplifies sharing, such as a public notebook and a private one. Hope you can consider doing this, just as photo sharing sites allow one pix to be associated with multiple albums!! Nick
  24. http://www.harmonenterprises.com/blog/organize-evernote-notebooks Thought I'd throw some chum in the water for the relentless notebook sharks. I'm one of those taggers who uses very few notebooks, based on access (local, synchronized, shared, offline), not content, but I have to admit that Harmon makes a compelling argument, especially since tag organization cannot currently be viewed on all platforms.
  25. Hi, I'm sorry, been using Evernote for ages but can't find the tags on my iPhone Evernote for IOS. I've been told this is the way to go now "Tags" and not Notebooks but for some reason can't find them in Evernote IOS for iPhone
