  1. Hello Everyone, for some weeks now, since around the time Evernote changed it's business model and had basic users choose two devices, my Evernote is behaving oddly. Both of my devices (Win7 machine and iPad) are correctly listed as connected, but sync on the PC is only working sporadically (red !) and I recieve lots of unwanted status notes (see image). Do you have any ideas on how to solve that problem? Kind regards Christian
  2. I gave a friend viewing and editing permissions on a notebook because we are trying to work on a project together. she is using the web version of evernote, and I am using the desktop version. at first, it seemed like her edits were overriding my previous ones, but then we came to realize my notes on my computer and what she can view in the browser are not syncing up two notes that she edited were placed in the "conflicting changes" tab on my end. I deleted them, but said project partner still can't see my changes to notes in her browser. when I log onto the web version of evernote, none of my changes made on my desktop app are reflected. the sync icon in my version of desktop evernote is continuously spinning, suggesting my changes aren't being synced, even when I manually use the sync shortcut I don't want to lose my work and I can't figure out how to allow us both to have matching syncs, as well as stopping whatever is blocking evernote on my desktop from syncing with the web version
  3. Hello - Here is my scenario... I have project notes in evernote with time estimates attached to individual tasks (see attached). I have manually added these to get the total time for each projects. I have a weekly time budget in excel (see attached) Here is what I want to accomplish... I want to be able to update total project times in EN, and then have the "Updated Time" column in excel automatically update to reflect the amount of time remaining in the project. So... What must I do or change to accomplish this? Thanks! Will Sample Weekly Budget.xlsx
  4. I started to rely heavily on tagging after seeing what good it could do. I had long refrained from tagging notes because I knew how unreliable syncing was when it came to tagging. I realized this 2-3 years ago. Now I'm back to tagging notes and see that the problem remains and hasn't been fixed. I see tens of tags not syncing in my account. Why does Evernote do nothing about it?? I don't even bother to ask customer support, because I know it won't solve any problems. Yet my curiosity remains. Why does Evernote not fix it? I'm a user from Korea. Is this particularly a regional issue? Then what is the Korea team doing about it? I've turned from an Evernote advocate to an advocate of not even starting Evernote because it's such a bug-laden elephant still. Why is Evernote complacent about its major bug with tagging? Can someone answer? I'm not complaining for the sake of complaining. I'm REALLY curious and I think I deserve an answer as a longtime premium member.
  5. On my laptop and my iPhone i use Evernote to keep my notes in sync. Today I took some notes from my iPhone and went to the laptop later wanting to sync, but hit a backspace on top of the note on the laptop prior to hitting sync, and perhaps Evernote thought I wanted to delete the new content, and subsequently the new content disappeared from my phone. How do I get the new content back? It contains some valuable information and this isn't the first time it's happened. Please help. Thank you.
  6. I've just figured out how to highlight PDFs, i.e. specifically to use the drawing tool to highlight academic readings. But now I can't work out why I can't see the highlights I've done on a Mac desktop over on my iPhone or iPad. What am I missing? Any suggestions?
  7. I have a new installation of Evernote on iPad (iOS 9.3) and it only syncs recent and new notes. All my other installations of Evernote (Mac OS X, Android) perform full sync. Any ideas what could be wrong with Evernote on iPad? thanks!
  8. Hi all, I've had an issue recently with my tags appearing on my Windows laptop, but not making it over to the web version or onto my Mac. It's a bit alarming when you realise a load of your tags aren't there. Thanks to other members on this forum I found a workaround/fix which I'd like to share for others who might be having the same problem. I asked Evernote for help some 5 days ago but have received nothing from them... The first thing to do is not panic - your notes should ALL be there on your devices, just not some of the tags you've assigned to them. Evernote's main 'bible' record of your data can be found on the web version - so sign in there to see what they have and haven't got as compared to your own home machine. I found my Windows laptop had all the correct tags, but online and on my Mac the tags were not syncing this content through. This is what you do to get the Evernote mainframe to recognise your tags properly - from there it should filter out to your other devices when you sync them. Be ready to work on the computer where all your tags are present and correct Also sign into the Evernote web version to check your progress Identify the discrepancies with the tags between the web version and your home computer In the Windows version of Evernote (which I'll assume you're using) select the tag you want to get Evernote to register In the middle column, under "All Notes" right click on the tag and rename it. The way I did this was by simply adding the number 1 to it, eg "Project:Finance" I renamed "Project: Finance1" All this is doing is adding a placeholder for now Sync it and you'll see the tag appear on the left menu and the tag will now be assigned to all of the notes Now go through all the notes that made up your original tag and add the original tag (eg "Project: Finance") back to each of them Sync as you go You'll now have a placeholder tag and your intended tag with all the relevant notes within both Check over to the web version and as long as you've been syncing regularly you'll notice your intended tag and placeholder tag now appear with the correct notes Progress can be a little delayed, so wait until all your stuff appears in both tags on the web version Now go back to your home machine and delete the placeholder tag, and sync On the web version you should see your intended tag with all correct notes apportioned to it, and placeholder tag gone From there things should sync automatically to your other devices.Good luck with it all. It's a bit annoying to have to do this, especially when the whole raison d'etre of Evernote is the automatic synchronising of content across several digital media. I'm debating where to go from here, as now whenever I create a tag on my Windows machine I'd be in doubt whether it would make it to the main servers. Evernote - sort this issue out please - your service and product otherwise are amazing and remain my favourite organization tool!
  9. Paid user for past year or so. I am a chronic note taker. Prior to consolidating my "thoughts and ideas" into one single note, I would create a note for every single flash thought it cool thing I read. No issues at that time. Should note, I run Evernote on my iPhone and iPad predominately but do also have the desktop software on my work PC and home MacBook Pro (although I rarely open the desktop software on either computer). My challenge is this, I consolidated the bulk of these disparate notes down to one single LONG note and now said note does not sync correctly. It only becomes larger and larger as it attempts to sync itself doubling in size. Evernote on my iPad won't even stay open. It just closes as soon as the background syncing initiates. You can tell that it basically says, no thanks and closes. This has been going on for two years now at least and I have tried copying my note from Evernote over to a Microsoft word doc so that I can then go and purge all of the redundant content. I then create a new note and start all over and save it, and sync it. The problem is, I do this on my desktop and my Evernote account looks clean and it looks like I have remedied the problem. But then the changes that I made, erasing the original compilation note, adding the content back as a new note, is not reflected across all my devices. I have artifact notes reflecting the old previously erased note on my iPad for example. I'm on the verge of giving up. It's just too unwieldy to deal with and I don't like the fact that when I add content to this one long compilation note, I can't trust that it will be reflected on my other devices. I actually have many instances where I've added content to this long compilation note via my iPad and it has never shown up on my iPhone. My question, what do I do? Has anybody else had this problem?
  10. I use OS 8.3 on my ipad, cannot get it to fully sync all notebooks after delete and reinstall of app. I see my most recent work synced across devices and on the evernote.com site. However, I can't seem to get the ipad to fully sync. It shows notebooks from older work, with "0 notes" (though I know there are quite a few notes in them, and can see them on other devices.). Suggestions?
  11. Hi, Hope someone can help me with this. I am trying backup / sync notes from my Android (Motorola) smartphone to my PC, as I plan to reset the phone shortly. While I have activated the sync from my phone, when I open the Evernote Web site I cannot see any of the notes. I plan to return the notes to the phone once it has been reset. Any assistance would be appreciated.
  12. Hi folks, I'm interested in learning more about encryption in Evernote. I've downloaded the OS X client and figured out how to go about encrypting some text within a note, but I'm concerned about the fact that Evernote uses insecure HTTP to transfer the contents of any given note from my local machine to your servers. First off, that's just plain bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. Shame on you. You need to get with the program and use SSL/TLS *everywhere*. No exceptions. This makes you look amateur. So my questions are: If my note syncs in-between the time that I type the string that I'd like to encrypt and the time that I complete the encryption, then the string of text would be transmitted to your servers over insecure HTTP? In one of your help docs I read in the comments that you only offer this to your premium clients. Is that correct, or has that changed? The reason that was given for only offering SSL to premium clients is that it's "too expensive" to offer this as a default feature. That's bullshit. And you know it. I'm okay with the idea that you just hold it back for premium clients, but the idea that it's going to burn so much more infrastructure that you couldn't possibly afford it because it would be a huge cost to your bottom-line is both greedy and economically impossible. It also creates the unnecessary intonation that SSL is some sort of luxury, which is detrimental to the on-going process of locking down the internet in general. As a major app, you should have a better policy in this regard. You're in a position to lead and educate your massive user base, instead you're making it out like SSL is unnecessary and expensive. And you know better. I guess that last one isn't much of a question, but it's hugely disappointing to find out that you're so careless with how data is transmitted and that you're using cost as an excuse for a rotten security philosophy.
  13. As amazing as the Evernote concept is, it's turning out to be more frustration than it's even worth. It's sync issue after sync issue it seems. I'm on a wifi connection at work right now, and when I try typing in the web version, it's trying to sync as I'm typing. I guess it can't keep up with what I'm doing or something, because it starts creating multiple copies of the note that I have open. Then I have to figure out which one I need to delete. Then I type a few more words only to find that it has created yet another copy....and so it continues. So I figured I'd just use the desktop version to finish my data entry and then sync later, right? Well once I open it, it gets stuck in a super-long sync process. And once it appears to be finished syncing, I attempt to start typing. And that's when a message opens on the screen telling me that once the snyc is finished that I can then edit the note. So I exit Evernote and try it again...with the same results. The wifi connection is just fine. But Evernote can't seem to do it's thing. Bottom line is that I've been battling with sync issues for most of the month that I've been using Evernote, and I'm to the point where I'm looking for a completely alternative (non-Evernote) way of doing things. I really don't even care if it's a little more work. I just want reliability, and Evernote doesn't seem to provide that. Has anyone found suitable alternatives that work more reliably?
  14. Dear fellow Evernote Users, I have trawled these pages looking for suggestions and i have found. However, nothing worked. Below is the message i sent to the Evernote support. I have a ticket and a number. I sent it on Jan 2, and haven't heard a "dickey bird" I have tried the "Poodle suggestions", i have tried the force syncing, i have tried taking out the *** & the <<< >>> from any notes that i can find, and i have tried uninstalling and re-installing etc. Nothing worked. I have been using the web version (Beta) since the 1st, but today because its taking so long to solve have had to revert to the previous web version. This is definitely affecting my workflow, and very hard to keep my GTD going (I Don't need any comments about using Evernote with GTD, i'm very happy with my system) "On Jan 1st afternoon my desktop version kept failing when syncing. I have the Web Version, this is up to date with no issues. I also have the Ipad and Iphone version, these two devices have no syncing issues. I have been onto the Evernote Forums and i followed some advice regarding changing Internet Options, un-checking SSL 2.0 & 3.0 and checking the TS ones. I also tried the force syncing. This actually did sync some additional things, but still not in line with the web version. I also saw where there were some conflicting issues, and i deleted those notes, I also deleted within any of my notes the symbols <<< >>> *** Today the problem still exists. So i followed the official evernote knowledge based support to re-install. I saved the file to back up, though i don't believe i have any LOCAL notebooks. (On that point, its very difficult to know which ones are LOCAL, and which ones are synced.) I have re-installed, and the syncing is still failing. Of course, i can still work off the web version, but i would appreciate your help in rectifying this problem I believe that as i have recently updated to "Premium" version, that the support will be quicker. I look forward to your help. I have attached 2 Activity Log files. The file Jan 02 is before re-installing The other file with same date is after re-installing. I have put this in the file name. I look forward to hearing from you. Since i sent the above, i have also been in contact with @evernotehelps. They tweeted me a couple of times, but since yesterday morning my time (South East Asia) it's all dried up. Since i tweeted them i have started to get some notebooks syncing but not the notes within the NB. Also, i got a stray email came into my inbox, but not every email. I am linked to Gneo, and the tasks that i put in there also synced. I deleted stuff from my inbox (web version) - that synced OK. I will copy and paste the last part of my activity log, i'm not sure how to read it but i imagine one or two of you out there might be able to . 15. Hello, About two weeks ago I wrote on here stating that I could not get my third device to sync. Since writing that post I have since discovered that the time and date were not correct on my Surface. I thought that may have been the problem but it turns out its not. Anyway my situation is this. I have Evernote on my phone, my laptop and my Surface Pro. I can get my phone and laptop to Sync but the surface pro is not syncing at all. All it says is "synchronisation failed". I still don't know what the problem is. Any ideas?
  16. Is anyone else experiencing technical difficulties since updating to the latest version? My notes are a mess, especially those with checkboxes. There are gigantic gaps between items, which makes scrolling thru a list nearly impossible now. I've had to just turn off the checkboxes altogether. I've also been having ongoing syncing issues with Evernote, but now with these style issues too, I can't even look at these lists and see what I'm looking at. I am so disappointed. What can we do about these issues? Are developers working on it, or can we go back to the old version?
  17. Premium user of Evernote, Author and college students has for the past three or four weeks been unable to login vie windows desktop: "can't connect to server, please try again later." I've reinstalled, change pass word, and successfully renewed connection to Google. What suggestions or recommendation do you have in order to reconnect. Thank you in advance. Sky
  18. When I have my windows version open and i click on sync it doesn't work, the circle spins but it doesn't sync with my web version
  19. Does syncing via Penultimate or the Livescribe pen/moleskin combo get counted towards your monthly upload limit? I'm hoping the answer is no.
  20. I have my default note type as "To-Do," however all tasks from Evernote are going into those folders as "Normal." I have all my settings correct as far as I know. Am I missing something? thanks
  21. I am running my evernote account on two devices iphone and PC. I will add content (written) to the same note at different times from either device. Content that I add from either device has vanished. Sometimes I add content to a note on a device but forget to sync or assume a sync takes place automatically. I may then add content to the same note on the other device and then hit the sync button. Would this then result in an overwrite on the other device? I am looking into sync settings and don't see how to configure this not to happen. I assumed that like most cloud service Evernote automatically syncs or saves any newly inputted data regardless of the device. Was very shocked when a long piece of written material was missing from a note. Please help. Thanks
  22. Hi! I am a kindergarten teacher who is exploring different ways that I can use Evernote to organize my notes and observations of my students. I know that on my PC I can create local notebooks that will not sync with other devices so my students cannot see them, but I cannot figure out how to do this on my iPad. Is it possible? Thanks!
  23. Mac OSX 109.9.3 EN 5.5.1 Direct Support Ticket# 586391 I have submitted a Ticket on this issue, however, I wanted to ask if anyone else is experiencing the same or has ever experienced same. When I opened my Mac EN Client today, it started it's normal Sync as always when opening the client. It finished the sync then continued to start another sync, then another, then another. While it was syncing, it was multiplying the Note Count as well as using up the Data Upload. The interesting thing about it, it is NOT duplicating any of my Notes. It is simply multiplying my Note count from 900+ files to over 9000 files. It has used over 2 gb of Upload Data as well. I have not added any new Notes to my account. I did a total un-install using MacKeeper, cleaning the computer well. I re-installed the EN Client from the EN Website and it continued to add to the Note Count and continued it's Syncing Cycles. I will post Support's Findings here when they get back with me. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you recall the fix? Thanks!
  24. my most used/edited note doesn't show up on my acct at Evernote.com, or on iphone. i use the desktop app, and this note is my main "to do" list. I edit it hourly (or more) all day long. other newer and older notes do show up in my Evernote.com (internet) and on the iphone...so syncing is working. just not that 1 pesky note.
  25. Hello Evernoters: I'm experiencing a problem that evidently occurred last year as well. I'm a premium member with EN on a Win 7 Pro laptop, and iPad and an iPhone 4s. Things had been going fine until the latest EN update for Win 7. Coincidentally, Microsoft released a bunch of windows updates as well so these may be related. Anyway, I can synch between all devices except Outbound from my desktop. I get an error message saying syncing failed due to problem at client. Notes entered in my other devices sync OK to the desktop. I have an open ticket with EN and have followed exactly the suggested steps of uninstall / reinstall (alas, a common "solution" for windows sufferers ... I mean users.) I thought I had found the perfect solution finally with EN, but now there's a hitch. I am in a Microsoft shop so the laptop is essential. But so are my mobile devices. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I'm thinking there's a conflict with another app somewhere (but nothing shows up in the windows error log that would suggest this,) Or, maybe it's a firewall / trusted connection issue. I'm still waiting for a follow up from EN tech support but thought I would try the board for some feedback. I am falling behind in my TSW organization ... Thanks all.
