  1. Hello, I was wondering if there is a way of taking an existing stack consisting of 9 notebooks, and throwing all the contents of those notebooks into a new notebook. I realized to late that you can't share a stack, and its necessary that my partner and I can access the contents of the stack I created. If it is possible, could someone clearly spell out the steps involved. I'm technologically challenged.
  2. Say I already have two notebooks, one called Decorating, and another called Household. I now want to consolidate those by dragging Decorating into Household, so that Decorating becomes a sub-folder of Household. (Or, in Evernote terminology, there would now be a stack named Household containing a notebook named Decorating.) That is what I expect to happen, based on experience with every other computer folder system I've ever used (e.g. Windows, my email provider...). But that's not what happens. When I drag Decorating into Household, I end up with a new, unnamed stack that contains both Decorating AND Household. The problem is that Household IS the highest level. There is nothing that I want "Household" to be a member of, and yet that is what Evernote forces me to do. I understand that it's not impossible to repair this situation in order to get what I want in the end. But fixing it up manually seems quite cumbersome, compared to it working as expected in the first place.
  3. Greetings, This is a request for wisdom in organizing Evernote. Are there good rules of thumb as to how many notebooks one should have? Tags? Stacks? I have 2,000+ notes and growing every day, about two hundred tags and I just started using multiple notebooks. I have not used stacks. I am overwhelmed organizationally with EN right now. Since I speak and teach a lot, I am constantly saving articles, blog posts, etc. on a multitude of topics but also use it for members issues, administrative needs, personal items, etc. Even as I see myself using EN more and more, I also want the organization process within EN itself to be as efficient as possible. Thank you for any advice provided. I realize there have probably been quite a few posts on this before so feel free to point me to those posts. Tom. T. Ps. One particular problem I have it I forget the name I used for my tags when there can be multiple titles for the tag (e.g., an article on youth--should it be tagged children, family, adolescence, babies, child rearing, youth, etc.? ) . Thoughts on this too?
  4. Is there a way to organize notebooks by stacks on the ipad? On the Mac, notebook stacks are so helpful in organizing my work, but the stacks are lost on ipad. Wading through all the notebooks is difficult and time consuming. Am I missing something? If stacks are not available on the ipad, what have any of you found to help w/ organizing notebooks on the ipad? Thank you, Joe
  5. I know that Evernote is designed around the use of tags as your means to search through notes or notebooks, but I like to use notebook stacks as a way to keep notes seperated within a notebook. And obviously at this moment a user managing their own business notebooks can create a stack of business notebooks but this is where the problem comes in. My first problem is color. When I create a business stack, it doesn't keep its grey color, it changes to brown which is the color of our personal notebooks AND arranges it alphbetically with my personal notebooks and not my business notebooks. This is extremely annoying, and currently my only way to overcome this is to add a prefix to all my business stacks to help keep them organized together...this sucks. My second problem is sharing stacked notebooks to the business library. With the above mentioned idea of creating business stacks to help better manage notes, we would also like to publish this to the library. Because our notes/notebooks/stacks need to be accessed to every potential user within the company it would be very important for us to have organized stacks with appropriately labeled notebooks within. To give you an idea of our business environment, we are a Residential General Contractor. We would LIKE to impliment Evernote as a way for Project Managers, Site Supervisors, as well as office admin and upper level management to stay in sync with project folders as well as company documents. Currently we use Dropbox as a way to access our files but I personally feel that Evernote creates a more elegant way of storing documents as well as a more intuitive way to search, create, edit, delete, manage any and all content. However, I can't present my case until I can proove it and stand behind its capabilites. So over the last 6 or more months I have been using Evernote exclusively as a way to manage project's but because of these few limitations I have restrained from trying to impliment it company wide. So help me out, hopefully this can become part of the future releases. I love all the changes that have been made to Evernote thus far, lets make this another to cheer about!
  6. Hi All, Just like everyone on here I love evernote but it'd be great to see 2 basic features on upcoming upgrades. 1. The capability to zoom in into your notes - some of us have sensitive eyes and need to see everything BIG. Trackpad zoom in/out functionality would be a dream come true! 2. If stacks of notes could actually be arranged in a tree structure- filing a lot of notes in a stacks mode is not always ideal as you can't create child folders. I know tagging is helpful but it's not enough. Thoughts on this? Anyone feels these two basic functions would be useful?
  7. Just downloaded EN and am completely confused. Would someone please help? I am trying to set up files as they are in my paper file cabinet, such as: Banking Checking Savings Insurance Disability MinnMurual Xyz Life MassMutual American Is it possible to do it this way? Many thanks! Jude
  8. Dear all, I am a little confused with how to arrange Notebooks within Evernote. This is to do with Stacks and Notebooks. Let me give you an example. I had a Notebook called "Food and Recipes". I had another Notebook called "Health" and another Notebook called "Diabetes". What would you do to place all of these notebooks in the one stack? What is the umbrella name you would give to this overall Notebook stack? Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Regards, Shiraz
  9. I'm having trouble creating a stack. Can't seem to find any specific instructions on this subject. Any thoughts?
  10. VERY FUNNY guys, but that was a mean trick you played and I want to be able to make notebook stacks directly in the Windows 7 desktop client! When I first opened Evernote from my desktop right after the software update that included the notebook stack option, the first time I had right-clicked a note, the stacking option appeared in the window, but at the time I had no clue as to what the stacking option did, as I didn't know anything about it until a little after the update was installed. I had clicked on something else in the window, and a second later it finally registered that hey, there's a new option there that wasn't there the last time I used this! So I went to right-click the note again and BOOM! The "new stack" option disappeared from the Evernote Windows 7 desktop client. No matter what I tried, and still try, I cannot get that option to make a new stack directly in the desktop app. I finally got around to seeing if it was available in the web app, made myself a handful of notebook stacks, and synced them up just fine with the desktop app, but even though I now have stacks appearing just fine in the desktop app, I STILL can't make a new one! Now, I KNOW that I wasn't imagining seeing the "new stack" option IN my WINDOWS APP, so I'm wondering if this option is just not available specifically in the Windows 7 app, or perhaps there's a bug on my end? I looked up stacks under Evernote Windows in the FAQ, and it explains how to make new stacks there, but I don't have the option to do so. What's going on? Is it me or is it just not there for all Windows 7 desktop app users? It's REALLY confusing me because I KNOW I saw that option there for the split second it was on my screen, before I even knew what they were and what they're used for! The thing is, I really, really enjoy and appreciate the feature, but it's a bit cumbersome to have the option only in the web app, when I primarily use the desktop app. Should I uninstall the software and reinstall it? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!
  11. To create a stack in the old version, you dragged one notebook on top of the other. Doesn't seem to function that way in V5. Any ideas how to accomplish this?
  12. Hello. When I open Evernote in Android, the notebook stacks are all expanded by default. I would prefer to have them all collapsed. Is there any option to change this, or is this default behavior going to change in the upcoming versions? Stacks are meant to hide sub-categories and give an hierarchic view of your notes. Having them all shown as expanded by default gets in the way of that purpose. It makes more sense to have them all collapsed, the browsing is a lot easier. That is the purpose of "folders" and "stacks" and "categories", isn't it? When I open any file explorer in any operating system, none of them show all the folders "expanded by default". One selects the "stack" or "folder" that contains what is needed, and browses the sub-folders or categories. Thank you for your help.
  13. I think I have encountered a bug. I want to search within a stack using multiple tags. I click on a stack, and then click on a tag. Immediately, the left panel scroll bar starts flickering up and down. Technically the search worked: I see the appropriate notes come up. However, I can't scroll down in the left panel to view other tags (I can for a moment, but then the scroll bar snaps to the top and starts flickering again). I also cannot select multiple tags (using ctrl click). When I try, nothing changes. I also cannot select a different tag. The flickering just continues. Please note, I CAN perform this type of search in a stack using syntax (e.g. stack:tasks tag:@work tag:project-A) and even save the search, but this is not very useful to me because I often need to move back and forth between different tags inside the same stack very quickly. Clicking is much easier and what I need. I am using Evernote 4.6.1.7860 (free, public version) for Win 7 32 bit.
  14. Hello everyone, My apologies if this is already in the wish list, but I couldn't find it. In the Shortcuts area, when you want to alternate a stack's state (collapsed or expanded), you have to right click and select the option you want. Would it be possible to enable double click as a way to alternate between both states? That would be much easier. Thanks a lot.
  15. I would like to see a highlighting / commenting system like in Google Drive. Collaborators can highlight a selection of text and leave a comment that shows up in a side panel. They have a Resolved button that deletes the comment or you can add more to the comment. Of course Google's system only works on the web version and doesn't carry over to mobile so it's useless. I would also like to see a unified text editor across all devices. Currently some options are only supported in web, mobile or desktop. For instance if I want to add Quoted text, I can't do it on the web. Have to go to mobile or desktop. And lastly, it would be helpful to be able to share an entire Stack of Notebooks. Right now I have a stack I want to share with colleagues and all I can do is share each notebook. Every time I create a new notebook in that stack I have to share it with them.
  16. Hi there, I've always found it annoying that web clipper show's me a flat list of notebooks rather than nesting them in their stacks as they are in the app. I have a lot of notebooks and it really harms the usability of the clipper for me. Is there a way around this??? Cheers
  17. Hi, When I open the Evernote app (Mac, iOS), all i see are my 633 notes right there in the middle of the screen. The notebooks and stacks are organized on the left navigation bar. I'd love to open the App and see my notebooks and then, select the one I want to open. Same with stacks. And, would be great to assign a cover to each notebook and stack, kind of a theme for each. I'm looking for a way to easily and visually classify all of my notes in their notebooks and stacks. Can I do all this? Thanks!
  18. On the new 4.0.4 Evernote for Android, how the heck do you move a notebook into a stack?? Or, how do you create your new notebook under a stack?? I've run into this a couple of times. Driving me crazy. I'd swear I could do this on the older version, but, I have slept since then. i did the "Google Site Search" and have Googled this and I guess I'm not asking the question right. Thanks in advance!
  19. I'm unable to create a new notebook stack and am trying to figure out what to do. Any help would be appreciated. - I've searched online and it makes it seem like you just need to click and drag, but that doesn't work. - I've downloaded the latest editions of Evernote as well as just installed Lion as my OS. Any ideas what's going on?
