  1. I am new to evernote and can't work out if it is possible to view stacks on the iPad side bar. I can only see notes and notebooks with no option to view stacks.
  2. Hi all, After the latest update when I restart my Evernote all of the stacks are expanded by default. Since I have a lot of stacks and notebooks this is really a pet peeve of mine. Did anyone have similar experience or maybe has some info regarding some default stacks settings or so? Thaks in advance and cheers.
  3. Hi I have started using Stacks. I have 11 notesbooks in a stack which are all visable on iPad, however when viewing on MacBook, only 3 notebooks are displayed? Is this a known bug? Many thanks
  4. Sorry to ask a simple question here but: I can for the life of me figure out how to next a notebook into a stack. And now that I'm looking, I don't see where you create stacks either. One other unrelated note: Many of my notes are saved URLs, and I find the location of the "jump to link" very difficult from a ux perspective. Thanks!
  5. I want to inform the team that I am opting out of BETA after using it since it started. Overall i have been fairly ok with the new design, however... managing my notes is not really at the forefront with BETA. When I found that I could not create a new notebook and move it into an already existing stack ... well I had to change to old style. Utility and functionality is what sets Evernote apart from other note systems, I use it to group notes together my list of notebooks is substantial and putting them into stacks helps alot. That is a fundamental issue for me, so I am now out of the BETA. Thank you.
  6. I'm transitioning most of my workload from PC to Mac and am frustrated by number of inconsistencies and certain feature loss. For one thing, I really miss having the ability to set up a watched folder. I used to be able to print to a PDF file, save it to the folder that Evernote would watch, it would go into my default Evernote notebook. More frustrating is my inability to pull notebooks into existing stacks or, it seems, to create a new stack by dragging one notebook over another. Am I missing something? Can't believe that this wouldn't work on Mac version.
  7. I clicked on Notebook Stack in the Sidebar and created a new notebook; then I draged three notebooks to Notebook Stack and drop each notebook on to the new notebook. I expected a Notebook Stack containing three notebooks but that did not happen. The four notebooks are shown in the Notebook Stack section on the Sidebar. Can someone tell me what prevented a Notebook Stack from being formed?
  8. How do I remove a notebook from a stack without moving it into another stack? I just want the notebook to stand alone.
  9. I have a complicated notebook structure that I want to use for various accounts. So as an alternative to manually create these notebooks (and stacks also if possible), it would be really nice if some kind of script could accomplish that. Then I don't have to worry about spelling errors or other typos. Have thought about autohotkey, but anyone who has ideas on how to do this and which tool to use? Have searched for scripts but haven't come across anyone. Thanks.
  10. I am fairly new to Evernote and I have watched videos on HOW TO use Evernote and it have seen what appears to be subfolders/notebooks. I have tried to make a subfolder of a Notebook but Evernote just makes a new Notebook and not a sub Notebook/folder. If I want to have a main folder such as Home Repairs then have subfolders say expenses, labor, etc. How do I make one of these sub folders of the main folder?
  11. I am a huge fan of ever note. I have been using it for business and personal stuff. I decided that instead of sharing all my inbox stuff with my office staff. I would like to have a separate account and put all my life stuff into that account which of course includes the last few years of stuff already organized in stake located under a personal tree. Also : Just say someone who has everything on Evernote like me : Perhaps from there kids 1rst grade assignments though the 12th grade. That kid wants to have his own account and would like a organized copy to take along with him which might have car info , licenses, insurance, banking, etc etc . There should be a way to easily duplicate or move all together those notes. Its a great hook for Evernote...Yet to my dismay, Not available not as a easy move the whole stack option. I cannot believe the limitation that other than exporting single notes ( I am still not sure if it is even searchable without tags... Ouch! Yes...I learned by a Evernote tech guy that it cannot be done except for moving individual notes! I had such promise that this was going to be my lives keepsake for everything paper!! Someone will copy this concept enough and make it forward thinking . One other of a 100 's of examples I could think of, that would make this useful. We have a small business I have personal and my business all in stacks organized for taxes etc as well as personal. Say I want to sell the business ? And I want to break out last 5 years of all business receipts exedra and give new owner in an organize way... Everything without giving up my copy? I could go on and on ... Frustrated in az!! ( Shame on Evernote!
  12. Still stumbling around with Evernote. It seems that the 'file tree' is limited to the Stack and the Notebooks within the Stack. Is there a way to do a Stack within a Stack. i.e. a more complex file structure? Thanks, cjamt
  13. I hate to open a old topic but it really is needed. I would really like to add sub-stacks (2 level hierarchy of stacks) Even if its not a Stack at the high level it’s a Group that I can put a stack or a few stacks under. Right now it’s a long list of Stacks, when I could get it down to a small list of 7 or 8 Each of the stack. Example Top Level MyBizs -> Accounting (stack) -> Taxes(Stack) ->Notes MyBizs -> Accounting (stack) -> Payroll(Stack) ->Notes MyBizs -> technology (stack) -> WebsiteInfo(Stack) ->Notes MyBizs -> technology (stack) -> Networking (Stack) ->Notes MyBizs -> Sales (Stack) ->Products (Stack-> notes MyBizs -> Sales (Stack) ->Services(Stack) -> notes Personal -> Home (Stack) -> projects(stack) -> notes Personal -> Money(stack) -> Budget (Stack) -> notes School -> KidsSchool (Stack) -> Davy (Stack) -> notes School -> KidsSchool (Stack) -> Jenny (Stack) -> notes Toys-> CAR (Stack) -> jeep (Stack) -> notes Toys-> CAR (Stack) -> Ion (Stack) -> notes Toys-> Bike(Stack) -> JimsDirtbike (Stack) -> notes
  14. Good day all, First off, let me say that there is a lot that I like about Evernote. It has a nice interface, it's easy to use, and syncs extremely well. I sync Evernote on 4 devices and it has only had a few syncing issues, and most of the time when a sync issue comes up, I can see the Conflicting Changes that have occurred. However, I do have 2 gripes with the application so far. I just signed up for Evernote Premium. I'm interested in trying out the premium features, but really liked the idea of having multiple notebooks. I wanted to create multiple notebooks so I didn't clog up 1 account. Let me start with my first gripe. My first gripe is that I think you should be able to create an endless amount of sub-folders or stacks in Evernote. I can't begin to tell you how many times I wish I could separate something out into several different sub-stacks. I really wish Evernote had this option. Secondly, I find that switching between different user accounts to access other notebooks is rather simple. But, it only shows the last notebook you accessed. I want to be able to see all of the notebooks I have synced up to all of my different email accounts. I don't even necessarily think that one should need a separate email address to make a separate notebook in Evernote, but alas, I'll work with it. There are many different facets to my life that are unrelated to one another. I think these different facets would be organized best by having separate notebooks that I can access. I really wish I could just select File at the top of the menu, and see a list of all of the Evernote notebooks I have. Can't this data be cached on the local PC and store all email accounts that have logged into Evernote from that PC? I don't want to sound like I'm bashing, because I'm not. I really like Evernote. I just wanted to point out some of the frustrations that I've encountered and wanted to express them on this forum with the hopes that it will spur some change or at least, start a discussion pointing out the logistics and flaws of my frustrations. I'd appreciate any feedback. Sincerely, Speck
  15. I accidentally combine 2 notebooks into a stack. How do I seperate them and put them back to 2 notebooks.
  16. I want to have the following: Buyers Notebook ---Adams Notebook (10 Notes) ---Jones Notebook (9 Notes) Sellers Notebook ---Smith (10 Notes) ---Wilson (9 Notes) And I want this to Synch to all devices. I don’t want to co-mingle Adams Notes with Jones Notes into one Buyers Notebook and use Tags. I just want one more layer of organization. What happens is that once I do a "Notebook within a Notebook", it automatically creates a Stack and the Synch function is disabled. Is there a series of steps I can do to make sure the Synch remains constant? Surely I am not the only one trying to accomplish this. And no I have not exceeded my 250 notebook limit. Thanks in advance for your help.
  17. I'm a frequent Evernote user, on multiple platforms. I depend on it, and I desperately want to like it. But it frustrates me every single time I interact with it. I write this in the hopes that I'm just missing something. To me, the most transformative benefit that came with storing things digitally was the availability of an arbitrarily deep hierarchy. No longer did I have to limit myself to a sheaf of notes stapled together inside a manila folder inside a file drawer. I could create a lush hierarchy that let me quickly navigate to my current area of focus, and brought complete freedom to subdivide that focus, or not, as deep or shallow as I chose.* Here's the key: When I add a note, I may not remember how I've organized things in this "region" of my brain precisely. I want to see that organization explicitly, so I can decide where the new information belongs. If there's already a note on this topic I may want to add to it rather than force myself to look in two places for it. If there are related ones that are diverging into multiple clusters I may want to split them. Throwing my new note into an unsorted pile and hoping search can find it later feels like throwing it away to me. Evernote is a big step backward from files stored in filesystem folders in this respect. I acnowledge all the powerful data entry tools that come with EN -- that's why I use it. But in terms of organization we're all the way back to manila folders (Stacks) containing sheaves of paper stapled together. Why? What's so hard about putting notes in a folder hierarchy? Is there some downside to this that I can't see? -J * I fully recognize that tags are in one sense more general than a folder hierarchy in that they allow a single item to be associated with multiple organizational nodes. But that strength is also their weakness -- they don't allow you to rediscover the hierarchy as you navigate it.
  18. Hello, I love the "outline view" in Pages and Microsoft Word. I find seeting up a page with heading, subheading, and point form notes very cumbersome in Evernote, to the point that I thought it might be easier to make an outline in a word processor, and import it in. A different suggestion is for the viewing mode. I know you can have drop down menus in the left bar, but it would be helpful if you could see all the levels at once: Stacks, Notebooks, and Individual notes all in one flow. There does not appear to be an option for that, and there is lots of room for it, even on my little macpro 13" screen. I hope this is helpful!
  19. Yesterday I created a stack for the first time by combining two notebooks and naming the stack "Genealogy". After creating the stack, I moved some of the notes from one notebook to the other. Today when I started to work with the stack, I found that there are actually three notebooks--the main one named Genealogy and the other two. I then found that the Genealogy notebook, which I thought was just the name of the stack, had all the notes in it. So I started deleting notes while making sure they were in one of the two "sub" notebooks. Then I discovered that I was deleting the notes from all the notebooks. So I had to undelete the notes and be sure they were in the correct notebook. Please help me figure out how to manage this. I've searched the forum, as well as my Kindle version of "Evernote for Dummies" without finding an answer. Why are the notes in more than one notebook and how do I get rid of them in the Genealogy "notebook." TIA. Laurie
  20. We realize that the current method of displaying all notebooks together has been causing some confusion amongst some of our users. Our development team wanted to let you know that we've been listening, and to offer you a temporary solution while we evaluate all the feedback we've been getting. If you're comfortable with editing your Windows Registry, they have created a Registry Key that only affects the display of your Business notebooks. It does not do anything else to your account, nor will it change the display on any other devices you may have. This key will only affect Evernote, and nothing else on your computer. Make sure Evernote is completely closed (File->Quit) before you make this change, and that you backup your registry before making any changes. Here is an article from Microsoft explaining how to access the system Registry: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/136393 The entry you are looking for is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Evernote/Evernote/NavPaneBusinessNotebookStack By default, this entry has an empty Value. Whatever the value of this entry, all business notebooks that don't have a stack currently assigned will be shown under this stack name. For example, if you enter “- Business” or “ACME Corp." there, you will create a stack with that name. Note that this does not actually set the stack on those business notebooks’ objects, the grouping is only visual. No actual stack will sync to your other devices. After this has been done, you can then add business notebooks to stacks within this "virtual" stack.
  21. I'm using David Allen's GTD for Evernote setup, but the latest update breaks it a little bit. Now when I click the dropdown list on a note to select the notebook it should be in, the stacks all appear expanded and I have to scroll down a long list of notebooks for the one I want. Previously I could just click the stack which opened the list of notebooks within it. This is easier when you have a lot of notebooks and are using stacks to keep them in order. This update seems to rob stacks of some of their value, at least in terms of filtering the dropdown list. Don't suppose there's an option I'm missing to enable the old behavior?
  22. I did not know stacks even existed, but now I have several notebooks that I would like to remove from some stacks. One of them has a lot of notes that I don't want to lose Brwzr THANKS
  23. I like the stacks feature of organizing notebooks. I can stack my notebooks and my joined notebooks. Here is where the problem comes in. I am unable to stack my joined notebooks in the Android version, I can stack my own. This might have been answered in another thread but I was unable to find it. Thanks in advance Michael
  24. Hello, Hoped people might have some ideas on this.... If I want to create a saved search with a specific stack, and also use “any:” before a following list of tags, something funny happens. I type the search in and results appear as expected, but once the search is saved it places the “any:” before the stack part of the query. Normally it adds several (i.e. “any:any:any”) for seemingly no reason. Since I’m a scrap merchant and I’m always searching for “old iron”, i thought it was adding the preceding “any:any:any” automatically, but it seems to do it with any search. The search still works once saved, but the grammar seems all jumbled up. NB: Another thing I’ve just found out: The saved searches I’m talking about here don’t work on iOS - seems to disregard the stack part of the search altogether. The problem mainly seems to be when stacks are involved, it's ok with notebooks. My saved search, as I see it I my head, should look like this. This, to me, is meant to return all notes with any of the listed tags, across all notebooks in the "Personal" stack. stack:Personal any: tag:"0 - Now" tag:"1 - Now" tag:"2 - Next" On Mac Evernote, this works as I'd think, with the slight anomaly that once the search is saved, it pops up looking something like this below, and it's beyond my control to change once it's saved. It just keeps reverting back. any:any:any: stack:Personal tag:"0 - Now" tag:"1 - Now" tag:"2 - Next" It still works, and sometimes it's two "any:"s, sometimes three. The same thing happens with notebook search, only it seems to stuff it's arbitrary number of "any:"s before the tags, the search still works as expected. i.e... notebook:Personal any:any:any: tag:"0 - Now" tag:"1 - Now" tag:"2 - Next" Despite the jumble, both saved searches work on my Mac. However, only the notebook search works on iOS. iOS seems to disregard the stack part of the search altogether, but ONLY if I have following tags with a preceding "any:". I can use stack search on its own on iOS no problem. This is driving me insane. I hope I'm missing something obvious. Any ideas? Cheers, A
  25. Hello, Can you add substacks as a feature? Currently I can stack notebooks so I have a stack of notebooks but I think it would be cool to have substacks so folders inside of a stacked notebook.
