  1. Hey all, I'm working for a client who disallows utilization of any service which forces cloud syncing through any server other than their own. I'm an avid Evernote user but without the ability to limit syncing to Evernote's servers I'm forced to find another solution. Is there any discussion ongoing about adding the ability to limit Cloud syncing within the iOS application so I can use my iPad Pro with my Apple Pencil to keep my notes secure within the device while not exposing confidential client information to Evernote's servers? It seems that Evernote would have thought about this by now given how awesome their application would be for enterprise users but thus far I can't find mention of client or customer security concerns within their archives or forums. Am I missing something?
  2. Did you ever think of setting up or using an existing data centre in Europe? It could help to bring people to Evernote who don't use it because they don't like their private data to be stored in the US.
  3. Now when I do a Google search the results include some of my Evernote notes on the right side of the browser page. Is the webclipper sharing this info with Google, or is there some way my browser can display this without Google getting a look at it?
  4. I like to use Evernote but i feel nude with it. As asked severals years before : still not cypher feature for data saved on hard drive. (Apple cypher iphone backups on hd). Not ability to choose a datacenter in another location. And also ability to use a private datacenter. (some will answer : use a not synchro, or local notebook, but we loose lots of interest of Evernote). Also ?? no cypher of customers data in Evernote datacenter ? And now there is a suggestion feature in the search tool - That send all request to Microsoft. Does Evernote Team have some little care about the privacy of their customers ? Is there a plan to make it better ? I hope everyone have understood that all data going on internet without cypher are stored and read by States Agency... I don't understand why other users of Evernote don't ask strongly to get Real privacy. And now I show you arguments : Page : https://blog.evernote.com/blog/2008/04/15/evernote-privacy-and-security/ Extract with no cut : ---------------------- "Your data is only transmitted to the servers in encrypted form over SSL, and your passwords are not directly stored on any of our systems. We also offer enhanced privacy options that would not be available from services like email: If you have sensitive text that you would like to remember (passwords, PINs, credit card numbers), you can encrypt that text in our Windows and Mac clients using a passphrase that is never transmitted to Evernote. This encrypted text can only be decrypted and read on one of your computers after you’ve re-entered the encryption passphrase. The sensitive text is not readable on our servers or on your computer by anyone who does not know the passphrase." ---------------- So data transmit with SSL : ok, but no cypher on Evernote Datacenter. If we use feature "encrypt with passphrase" : text isn't readable on servers,,, Why not encrypt everything ? and what is the level of this Cypher ?
  5. Thank God there's a way to turn off the new Context feature. Evernote--I don't want you scanning my notes for any reason. I love the product but I value my privacy over the ability to access my data from any device. If you can't offer me privacy then I'll use something else.
  6. Can anyone tell me where privacy settings are in Evernote for iPad?
  7. Hi all, when I export all my Evernote notebooks to an .enex file and want another user to import these into his Evernote, will there be any user data visible? Meaning: does the new user see which account the data was connected to? Thanks, rochi
  8. Hi - I just started using Evernote and really love it so far, but I am having trouble with finding a way to share notes/notebooks privately. Is all note/notebook sharing public where as long as someone has the link they can see it (I hope not)? Is there a feature in which I can share notes privately. I installed the iOS and see a "private link" option there, but not in the Windows client. Does this require a premium account? All your help is really appreciated!
  9. Hi all, I've been trying to scour this forum and the web for info regarding how permissions work for the EWC on Safari. I know that in Chrome, it must have access to all web browsing, tabs, etc. because of the way Chrome permissions are designed (all or nothing). I'm wondering if Safari is different. It seems like I should be able to grant permission to Evernote to access pages I ask it to clip, without needing to share my entire browsing history at all times. So, the question is as to whether ( a ) the clipper has permission to access all my browsing at all times, ( b ) whether it actually does, and ( c ) I'd like to know this information for Firefox as well. I'm looking for a way to use Evernote such that it doesn't access data about everything I do on the Internet, which it doesn't need (it's enough that Google has all this info - esp. for those of us who use Chrome). I appreciate any clarification of this. Thank you! Sfam
  10. I have a question regarding the sharing of notes. I use my Evernote professionally, privately, and to keep notes of my online presence. Sometimes I'd like to share notes with friends, family, co-workers etc. I don't mind they know who I am. But... I'd also like to be able to share my notes to some of my online friends and acquaintances, but I'm not as much interested in giving away my full name, private email address or anything like this for such purposes. If I share a note with someone, is there anyway they can discover either of those? I've tried opening a shared note, without being able to discern any such thing, but I'm really bad at computers so I figured I'd ask someone who probably knew! Sorry if I seem a bit paranoid, but I've had uncomfortable experiences in the past I'd really prefer not to repeat, so I tend to err on the side of caution.
  11. Hi I've been using EVN quite happily for some years now but am new to sharing. The problem is: A friend of mine wanted to share a notebook with me, so I got the email on my Iphone and I clicked. And then I got the new shared notebook in my list on the phone... full with all the 3400 notes I created from the beginning, but with no trace of my friend's own notes! No trace either of the supposedly shared notebook on my computer or even by online access, in spite of repeated sync'ing. Anxious not to have me passing out (half of my notes are my diary), my friend was kind enough – at least he told me so – to delete the fateful notebook. He also told me none of my notes ever appeared on his device (an Ipad I think). Can someone tell me what happened? A harmless bug on my device or...? And how to make it not happen again? Thanks Fil
  12. Hi, I have Evernote on all of my computers and wanted to add it to my Nook through the Google Play Store. Why does the app say that Evernote needs access to "Hardware controls, record audio, take pictures and video"? I did not install Firefox on the Nook because you have to give permission for Firefox to record audio and take pictures and video with your device without your further consent. This is not exactly what the Evernote permission states you are doing, but I want to be clear that I am not giving permission for any company to record anything from my device. The Nook doesn't have a camera so that is not an issue, but I do not want to give permission to record audio, either. Is this permission needed only for the use of the app, in that it gives permission for ME to record myself and store it on Evernote, or is it giving Evernote permission to randomly record whatever may be happening near my device? Thanks - I won't install the app until I understand what I am agreeing to!
  13. It just dawned on me that my notes may potentially reveal my geographic location/location history when we share them. In testing the public links, location isn't shown within the browser, but what if we were to "Save to Evernote"? Does anyone have knowledge on this?
  14. Evernote will become a 100 year company. This is what Phil Libin said multiple times. EN didn't accept various offers from big software companies. This is a very important philosophy for a company that relies on user trust. If EN really wants to become an external brain it must: 1. build the trust that the data belongs to the customer. 2. make sure that the data remains private. So it should be a business modell that doesn't make its money with user data and ads. 3. exist for a very long time so that the user can always access his information. This is what EN is and plans. The acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook shows once more how important this philosophy is. WhatsApp always said and confirmed that they don't want to earn its money with user data. That's why they didn't sell the company. Until now. WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook, a company that earns its money with ads and user data. Please EN: Keep your 100 year philosophy forever! Never get acquired!!!
  15. I use a work laptop running Windows 7; I've always used a personal laptop as well, but now I'm interested in minimizing my backpack poundage and want to run Evernote on my work PC. If I download Evernote to my work PC, is there any way to exclude it from my employer's daily backups to the server? My employer is progressive and I don't think they're interested in my Evernote data, but I do want to keep it private.
  16. I'm new to Evernote; I installed the windows setup file on my stand-alone desktop at home- no Evernote, I don't remember what the fail was. I've registered from my laptop using the wifi at the library this morning, but I didn't get a registration number, so I don't expect that I have anything more tangible to give it to begin its functionality. Reading these forums and the EN site, I could impute that it wants to connect to the internet to register me/activate the software, but perhaps someone can explicitly tell me that's the case, or if not, what else might be going wrong. Is it possible to register the system at the library and copy a registration key from EN's folder on my laptop to my offline desktop? I'm at the library now, so I'll take any suggestions that gather here home to try. Thanks.
  17. Hi Folks, I am new to Evernote and want to access my photos for a presentation. I cannot find the privacy settings anywhere on the app to permit the use of my photos. Where is it? I have logged in via a web browser and found a setting to change, but nothing has happened on my ipad. Any thoughts?
  18. Hi I noticed that Evernote shows my localization when i click on the "i" button. It also happens when i share a notebook and i don't want all readers to know my town. Is there a way to disable localization function on evernote ? I've googled it but nothing came up to me :/ Thanks to all
  19. I was just reading through the thread about Evernote building a datacenter in China and it got me thinking about the current news about the NSA PRISM program. I would like to understand the position of Evernote with regards to FISA requests. I'm an American citizen living abroad (for the past 12 years) so these developments concern me. If Evernote is receiving FISA requests, will the Evernote community be informed? Would you publish some type of transparency report? I would appreciate an official response on Evernotes position on the subject of data privacy. And yes, I have read your privacy which is very general (like most cloud providers). It would be nice to have clarification on your position in light of these developments. The fact that EN doesn't provide HTTPS to non-paying customers (however I believe this applies to desktop users) is simply stupid (I am a paying user FWIW). The whole discussion about the Chinese data center bugs me because no one mentioned to users that unless they are paying, their communication could be intercepted. It says to me that EN doesn't care too much (or don't understand) about data security. With all due respect to EN evangelists, please, I would prefer an official statement and not your opinion (esp., using the argument that if I am doing nothing wrong then I should not be worried).
  20. I rely on Evernote at work to capture every thought that goes through my head. Some of these thoughts are not related to work, and some are not necessarily compliant material. I believe my cached notes are being saved in my C drive. It is a normal practice at organizations to warn employees that, for example, corporate communications such as e-mail, are not private, and every message is able to be read if necessary. I use my own Evernote account at work, as opposed as a corporate account. (Working in web development, I have some liberties as to what I can install in my work conputer.) The way Evernote is built, is there a possibility that the organization could peek into my notes or otherwise access them? Sincerely G
  21. Hi, I have a premium account of Evernote in which I have everything I need to remember. I used it for personal and professional needs. I used it at home only because I don't want to have all my personal stuff inside my business computer. In order to use it at work, I created a free account and I shared my professional notebooks with my free account. Occasionally, I'm limited by free accounts limitations. It's a little bit frustrating as I have a premium account. I could use TrueCrypt based solutions to have my whole account protected on my business computer but I'm not a big fan of that kind of solution as I change regularly the computer and it implies to authenticate every morning. I prefer to have only my business stuff locally. Is there a way to handle this situation without buying a new premium access ? Maybe by linking my premium and free accounts ? Maybe by allowing partial synchronization of my premium account ? Thanks.
  22. I wonder if there is a possibility to start Evernote discretely or in a private modus on Windows. So that it opens without showing a note yet. Sometimes I've opened my pc on a big screen with others in a meeting and I want to look for something I posted in Evernote. So I have to start Evernote, but I don't want others to see notes that I've taken in other sessions because of the privacy aspect. Thanks for any help.
  23. I'd love to use Web Clipper, but when I try to install the extension (in Chrome), it says that Web Clipper needs access to: - my data on all websites - my tabs and browsing history. I'm not comfortable with that. I understand that in order to work, Evernote must be able to capture the things I ask it to capture. But can anyone tell me specifically what else Evernote captures, and how that's used? Why would it need to see my browsing history, for example? Or any tab other than the one I happen to be on?
  24. I use Evernote everywhere (except on my cheesy android phone-crashes). I had a light-bulb moment to use it for documentation of behavior and EC compliance. My principal was concerned that as a cloud based service, there might be privacy issues. (FERPA). Any thoughts?
  25. I'm sorry to say that, but it is true, EverNote's ONLY ADVANTAGE for Chinese users against all the knockoffs in China is that you DO NOT have a data center in China, so we could protect our privacy against Chinese Gov. The people in China who do not mind the privacy are using the knockoffs of evernote provided by Chinese local company. Those knockoffs, they have almost all the advantages, such as localization, lower price, local government support....I am confident when I say I could speak for most of Chinese evernote users that the ONLY reason we use your service instead of so many knockoffs in China is your data center is out of china's government's reach. After all things I've said, if you guys still insist on building data center in China, please notify us ahead and give us time to export our data and purge the data from your server permanently. Thanks!
