  1. When we receive greeting cards, I scan them before tossing. I use a descriptive title like "Birthday card to BnF from Wendy 2011" & it goes into the "letters" notebook. As you may have guessed from the name of the notebook, I also do this with letters. The title of the scanned letter would be something like "letter from Alyssa YYYYMMDD" where YYYYMMDD is the date of the letter. If a particular topic is covered, I would add that to the body of the note. If I want to retrieve any of these notes, I go to the "letters" notebook & search on the name of the person. If I want to see all the birthday cards I received last year, the search would be: "to BnF" birthday card 2010 The first part, "to BnF" excludes any cards I've scanned that were from me to someone else. Yeah, I do that too. In that case, the note title would be "Birthday card from BnF to Wendy 2010". I know this sounds a bit obsessive. But I used to save many of the cards & letters we'd received from people. Often, I'd go through them & toss some. But there were many that I sort of wanted to toss, but at the same time, really didn't want to, simply because of the sentimental value. When I really started trying to go paperless ~five years ago, I started scanning them & only keeping the very special ones. It's really nice to be able to read some cards & letters from friends & family who are no longer of this world. It's also nice to not have them taking up space & even nicer to have them much more easily retrieved from Evernote than having to get them out from a box at the bottom of a closet.
  2. Hi everyone! My name is Jamie Todd Rubin. By day I am a software developer and by night I am a science fiction writer and blogger. About a year ago, I decided to go paperless. I started using Evernote to manage digital versions of all of my "paper" and haven't looked back since. Whether it's bank statements, publisher contracts, or minutes from a homeowners meeting, I've got it all in Evernote, making it easy to search and access anywhere. And no more clutter in my office! I'm hoping I can share some tips and tricks about going paperless--as well as learn some new ones. I look forward to hearing your ideas.
  3. Does anyone know if there is a settings somewhere to have it scan each page as a new document? I really wanna drop a pile of pages in there and have it create 50 pdfs in evernote, as opposed to just creating 1 with 50 pages. Feeding 1 in, waiting for it to scan, and then another, is somewhat painful... Thanks!
  4. Do any of you have any advice for me? I’m about to buy a ScanSnap S1300 to use on a Mac Pro running Lion (v10.7.1). I’ve checked on Amazon. They have one with a bundle (for $290 http://amzn.to/pGI6jG) and without a bundle (for $253 http://amzn.to/qb7JNk) Amazon says only the bundle works on a Mac. The one without the bundle works only on PC. I’ve read reviews on Amazon saying that Fujitsu doesn’t offer free upgrades on their software, but you have to buy a new scanner to get new(er) software. Correct? (Sounds terrible to me.) Any advice for setting up this unit for scanning into Evernote? Any links online with tutorials or tips on this?
  5. You know you're a nerd when.... I recently received a bit of cash from my family as it's my birthday. Did I spend the cash on a new golf club or something really exciting? Well, if you ask my family - no. If you ask me though, the Fujitsu 1300 was the best purchase I could have made. Just ordered one through Amazon.ca as I live in Canada and they seemed to have the best price. Hopefully the reviews live up to what I've read on this forum. Can't wait to start going paperless EDIT Just found out the shipping time for Amazon is like 3 weeks so I cancelled my order. Upon doing so I came across some info on the Canon P-150. Any EN users have a preference between these two devices? Edit # 2 Just discovered the Canon comes with 2 USB chords only and the AC adapter is $35 to add later. Fujitsu it is.
  6. I just updated to 4.5.1.5432 and immediately afterward tried to scan to Evernote from the Scan Snap Manager. It came up with an error message so I restarted the scan snap manager and now scan to Evernote is no longer an option. Tried reinstalling the option with the manager using the options menu and Evernote no longer appears. What happened? Is this a problem with the new Evernote version? This is a significant problem for me. Thanks, Kent
  7. Hi, This scanner is listed in the "Trunk". When it's set up correctly it scans directly into Evernote. It's almost really nice. What's missing is the ability to direct the import of of the pdfs to a consistent notebook. The default notebook that normally applies isn't in play. I posted here because it's to a windows client. Does anyone have experience this with this. Regards, Gary
