  1. Hi All, When I import from MS OneNote, sometimes I can edit the text within the note in EN, and other times I cannot....there seems to be no consistency. Can anyone advise how I can set it so all imported notes are editable? Thanks Charlie
  2. I am trying to import my OneNote notebook into Evernote but the importer won't let me navigate to the file. The "Select notebook you would like to import:" dropdown in blank. Is this an Evernote issue or do I need to do something different? Thanks
  3. I have been using MS OneNote for over a year and have compiled an extensive collection of notes. I was just recently introduced to EverNote, and would like to give it a try, but I will need a way to transfer/import/migrate all my notes from OneNote. There are loads of methods to go the other direction. Has anybody got a tool/method to import notes into EverNote??

  5. I've been comparing Evernote with OneNote for the first time and would love to see a few enhancements to Evernote. The latest OneNote for Mac (a free app) is interesting, but also frustrating in many cases. It lags behind the Windows version. It even lags behind the iOS version! For example, there is no draw feature, while the iPad and Windows version let you annotate and add more things. Also, even though OneNote has these nice "containers" you can move around, and generally much better formatting and image views than Evernote, you can't do simple things on the Mac, such as shift containers down to make space, which you can do in the Windows version. One question I had is it really true you can't resize images in Evernote? At least make them bigger? I added an iPhone screenshot to a note, but it was so tiny I could barely see it. And the little blue ball at the bottom didn't help at all when I tried sliding it. If I want to draw something I can do it in OneNote on my iPad and then see it sync in the note I'm editing on my Mac, but still... I think there is some way to do draw annotations in Evernote but I've never gotten it to work. One advantage of OneNote for iOS is that you can keep all your synced notes offline for free, while that is a premium feature of Evernote. And there are no upload limits. On the other hand, I am a premium user of Evernote, so that makes no difference for me. The OneNote "copy text from a picture" feature is cool. It would be nice if Evernote added that. There is also no really good way of importing your notes from Evernote to OneNote on the Mac. There is a 3rd party solution for this for Windows called "evernote2onenote". I tried it and it works, but then the syncing of the imported notes doesn't work well after that. So I gave up on that. I'm not sure what to use OneNote for. It seems maybe better than EverNote for things like preparing class notes to project because of the containers, better formatting, and the ability to resize images. It doesn't have a true presentation mode like Evernote does, but the actual formatting of the notes is nicer. I would really love to see better formatting in Evernote. In Evernote you can't even use tabs to align columns, which has always been a nuisance. In OneNote tabs automatically create tables, which is nice. But I'm not sure it can replace Evernote as my catch-all free-form database, where I keep thousands of scraps of info I don't want to keep in my head. Just sharing some thoughts, doug
  6. Hi Everyone, I would first like to say that I love Evernote. Everything about it has been super helpful for my life, my work and my family. I am totally paperless and Evernote has allowed me to clear my head and focus. I would also like to say that I am currently a beta tester for all things Evernote, including Mac, Windows, iOS and Scannable. Lately, I have been reading plenty of articles talking about how Evernote is going down the tubes and is a horrible experience. (http://chambersdaily.com/bradleychambers/2015/10/18/learning-to-leave-evernote) People are leaving Evernote for services like OneNote and Apple Notes. With everybody talking bad about Evernote and all of the recent changes within the company structure (new CEO & a ton of layoffs) I have been worrying about the future of my Evernote and my lifestyle therefore I have been trying out all of Evernote's competitors just in case we hear one day soon that the service will be shutting down. I understand from a lot of the outward facing people at Evernote that they are hard at work re-building a lot of the infrastructure and trying to focus the product. I would really like some sort of sign that the company and my life's workflow won't suddenly end in the future. What are your thoughts? Are we all in the same boat? Thanks Nick
  7. There's an elephant in the room and I'm going to describe it. I've been using Evernote religiously for about 3 years and do all my notes, reminders, todo's etc with it. The main reason I'm so into it is because I switch devices and platforms ALOT. But you know what? Honestly, I feel like Evernote SUCKS compared to OneNote in terms of actual usability. I used OneNote a long time ago. I don't remember what version it was maybe 2003 or 2007... all I remember is that it was the BEES KNEES! I could add anything to anywhere. I could click on a point and just start typing, I could do all these different fonts quickly, I could make all types of lists. I could shove in media, and link things to other things. I could make any note look just how I wanted. When I switched to EverNote, everything was a struggle. I couldn't put stuff where I wanted. Tables and lists, were a struggle and felt so limited. Taking notes in University was HARD. When the instructor would diagram stuff it was a computer science challenge to get it to look similar in my EverNote note. So before everyone comes to the EverNote defence here. I'm not saying EverNote is no good as a product. I can get a lot done. And I understand a lot of people have specific uses and don't need a lot of features that OneNote would beat EverNote at. BUT, I feel like EverNote has known about OneNote for such a long time, EverNote has been almost king of the hill for such a long time. Why can't you just duplicate the best of OneNote so we can do all the same things? Please. Why do people even have to make the EverNote vs. OneNote comparison anymore? Just jack their best features and blow them out of the water...
  8. I'm an Evernote Premium user since years and it's probably my favorite app ! Thanks to the Evernote Team for the job and the help to organise my projects ! But after years I see I'm Everlost in Evernote. And yesterday I discover Onenote for mac. Today I dream to see 3 Onenote features in Evernote: - Tabs - Pages and Subpages - Type anywhere: like request in the mac category of this forum here 3 keys to stop being ever lost in my notes Maybe I'm not the only one ?
  9. Hi, I use Evernote extensively in work I do with 3 local charities and generally I find it good. The biggest pain for me is the way Evernote does not display a pdf within a note on my iPad, you have to click on the note to launch the PDF. I have found a way around this by inserting my document into a note in OneNote and choosing the option Insert Printout, I can then copy and paste the document into Evernote and when displayed in IOS it is open in the note and does not need the click on it to launch the PDF. Am I missing something here, is this possible already in Evernote or am I correct in thinking this is not possible? What are the chances of Evernote including a feature such as this? Is there some technical reason it cannot be done in Evernote? Thanks in advance.
  10. OneNote Binder Tailored for Academic Researchers and Writers I just ran across this blog about using OneNote for research, and thought I'd share it here since so many users post questions here about Evernote vs OneNote. I can say that after having read the blog and watched the video that it is quite impressive. I learned that OneNote has more features than I previously knew. From the blog: Here's a few OneNote features that I found very interesting: Notebook sharing and real-time collaboration [NOT available in EN] with othersDeep searching across notebooks, in one notebook, or in one section (including Boolean searching [NOT available in EN] and use of quotation marks to search for exact wording)Searching for words in audio and video notes/content [NOT available in EN]Nesting of notebook sections groups [NOT available in EN]Page templates [NOT available in EN]Automatic versioning of OneNote pages [NOT available in EN]Syncs across all devices [just like EN]Nesting of Notebook Sections, subpages under pages, with the ability to collapse and expand subpages [NOT available in EN]Password protecting of tabs and sections [NOT available in EN]AFAIK, the only areas where Evernote is clearly superior to OneNote are: Easy sync across more devicesMuch better Web Page capture with EN Clipper and EN Clearly [i believe OneNote can capture web pages ONLY as a picture, NOT as HTML text like EN]There are probably other areas where EN is better, and I'm sure my friends here will be quick to point these out.
  11. I know the features comparison between EN and OneNote came up in this forum multiple times. I couldn't help but going back to OneNote many times when it comes to plain note taking. More importantly, Microsoft improved the OneNote experience across devices tremendously in the last few months. I consider OneNote note taking experience superior to EN for many reasons. - I can click anywhere in the note and starts typing. This makes organizing the note easier. I can also move/place the block of texts easily. - Overall editor is very fluid and stable. Especially when you have lots of formatting (lists, tables, and other content) I was wondering if EN can give the feature of organizing the note by clicking anywhere in the editor.
  12. +1 For two way linking/integration between Evernote notes and Outlook items (also through an Exchange Server), similar to OneNote.
  13. Hiya- I was wondering if there is any way to open MS OneNote docs in Evernote. Every time I try, it just comes up as an attachment in evernote that wants to open up in onenote (wihich this computer doesn't have). I'm trying to download my OneNote notebook from DropBox to my boyfriend's computer which doesn't have OneNote. Help please?
  14. I am having issues copying and pasting from Office 2013 to Evernote. The only options seem to be screenshot or plain text. It used to work much better than this. OneNoteWhen I try to paste from OneNote (Either using Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V, or using hotkey Win+A) it just gives me a screen clipping of whatever I highlighted. Example… In OneNote it looks like this: It's pasted as a screen cap in Evernote, not as formatted text and image. I can right click on it and get plain text, but I don't want plain text. I want formatted text with the image. WordIn Word, all I get is the plain text option. In Word it looks like this: In Evernote it ends up looking like this... Inside Process (Less than 5) • • If 5 Seats or less… o After purchase transaction goes through ...no images, no formatting. Experimenting a little further, I've discovered that it DOES preserve formatting between Word and Evernote except when there is an image. The thing is, Evernote used to be able to work wonderfully between OneNote and Word. Then at one point, it started doing the screencap thing with OneNote. So I would have to paste from OneNote to Word, and then to Evernote if I wanted to preserve formatting. But now it won't even work coming from Word. What gives? Is there a way to preserve formatting and images? Thanks.
  15. Hi, How do I limit saved searches to tags and not keywords. I have tag names that are also contained as a word in a document. Some of my documents may contain words similar to many of my tags but I do not want these included in a saved search, I only want the search for documents having the assigned tags... I hope this is not some sort of limitation of tagging otherwise this would be another argument to add the ability to create notebooks, with pages and pages containing notes (similar to OneNote and Zoho NoteBook) instead of notebooks containing just notes (see my other post). Thanks
  16. Using Outlook in Office Professional 2010. Prior to upgrade I had comms add-in for Evernote and OneNote [MS]. Now the Evernote ol.dll is not recognised on the Trusted source list, blocking the connector! I have deselected OneNote [although they sat nicely together before- to avoid conflict issues] but still can not get it to connect. Anyone know how to add to the Trusted Source list....going round in circles at the moment?
  17. im a onenote convert who used the tagging feature alot. i miss being able to tag a word or group of words in a note, and later being able to bring up that tag and only see those items tagged. for instance, i use evernote in my aircraft maintenance business. i'll have a note for each open job, which i can update via iPad, android, web, you get the idea. included in the note would be parts i need to order to complete a job. lets say i need to order a specific tire. i would love to be able tag the tire part number with the tag 'parts to order'. then when i bring up that tag, a list of all my parts i need to order, including the tire, is displayed in front of me. once ordered i can change the tag to 'parts ordered'. i admit im new to evernote, so this may be something that the program is capable of now, but from my experience the tagging feature brings up the whole note, not the tagged contents. maybe a third party app?
  18. hi, i just got a mac and was sad to discover that microsoft office for mac doesn't include one note - until i found evernote, which is awesome. however, i would really like to convert my one note files to evernote so i could continue to use them. all of the forums i've read on this topic involve having evernote AND one note on the same computer, or running windows and mac parallel to one another - i can do neither. is there any way to even read my files so i can just copy and paste them into evernote? thanks so much!
  19. I'm in college and I used OneNote all of last year and one thing I really liked about it was that I could "print" out my powerpoint slides and insert them to my note. Then I could set it as the background and type notes directly on top of it. I am trying to switch to Evernote, but I am not able to find out if it has a similar feature. When I attach my document in Evernote, it only shows up as something I can scroll through but not integrate with my notes. Please help!
