  1. Apologies if this was already discussed somewhere, but I can't seem to find it anywhere so here goes: Just recently, my laptop's hard drive crashed, and I attempted to save my system files by copying over my Library to an external drive. Attempting to restore my "current" Evernote onto my new drive (by pasting the old Library) worked out fine, however the long list of notes I had stored in the "quick-note"/clipper (on the toolbar) seems to have disappeared, and I don't know where I can recover it — actually, is there a way to recover what was written in the quick-note/clipper? Was there a backup made somewhere? I've located a file named "quick-note-preserved.obj", but I can't seem to open it with anything. Do I have to import it somewhere? If it helps, I'm a macbook pro user, and the application was downloaded from the "app store" on this laptop. Thanks for your help TT.TT Just any way to view the information will do....
  2. Hello, this is my first time on any forum, but I have a question. Somehow I deleted the text from one of my notes (must have absent mindedly selected it the accidentally hit enter). Of course, it synched (i.e. eliminated!) everywhere! At any rate, I want that text. As I deleted text, not the note, it is not in the trash anywhere. I tried to search/follow other web searches, and "found" the evernote data back up from a day ago (no easy task!!). But even going back in time does not seem to recover the text from that note. Is synch retroactive? Is there no way to restore the state of that note to a prior time when the text was present?? If there is a way, can you give me a step by step broken down for a 3rd grader? Remember, the note still exists, it is just blank. Thank you for any help/insight you can provide. If I am SOL then give me the bad news, and I can start to try to rebuild, however, this really panics me as I have some critical information on some notes that could be catastrophic is I cannot go back in time. (should I go to manual synch?). Help.
  3. Evernote for Mac 7.8 is now available and you can download it here. New: You told us you love Templates, so we’ve made it even easier for you to use them. Now you can view our gallery of templates—plus any you’ve saved—right inside the app. Just click on the “Template” button when you create a new note to see them all. Oh yeah, you know we’re doin’ our happy dance. FYI, they look great with Dark Mode too.
  4. Striking through text is too much of a pain. I am using the latest version of the Mac desktop software.
  5. The windows version of Evernote has the strikethrough option on the main task bar, but on the Mac version the fastest way requires you to click through some menus. This would really speed things up.
  6. If I make a bulleted list in Evernote then try to copy and paste it into Microsoft Word the formatting goes all wonky. The bullets lose their hierarchy in Word (they all appear left justified) though they still maintain their style. There is no simple way to remedy this. This undermines Evernote's role in Office-related workflows. Add onto this the recent dramatic loss of privacy which allows Evernote employees to read my notes and it may be time to just switch to OneNote. Even if you paste it as unformatted text it still includes hyphens at the start of every line. Any way to get a bulleted list to be formatted correctly when pasting into Microsoft Word and other MS products?
  7. Hi, is there a way to copy from either the web or word without pulling across the formatting. Spend a lot of my time copying into notepad then into Evernote. Must be a quicker way.
  8. Recent versions of the Evernote Mac client no longer automatically display tiff image files that are attached to notes. Instead of displaying the image, there is the icon for an attached file with a name like "Pasted Graphic 14.tiff". The web client does not have this problem.
  9. I don't attach a lot of documents to my notes, but I've attached a few pdfs, and they usually show up in the note fulltext, so you can read them without opening them. I dragged a Word document into a note yesterday (a syllabus for one of my classes) and since then, every time I try to quit the program I get an error that says "A file attachment may be currently open in another application." Word is open on my machine, but the file isn't. The attachment shows up in the note as an icon, not the actual text of the document (I can quick-look it, but that's all). I did a forum search and only found one thread from someone who said the error started appearing when he tried to close EN once while the file actually WAS open in another application -- it wasn't clear whether he ever solved the problem. I'd like the stop getting the error, and also to see the document's text in the note. Any ideas?
  10. Improvements: * We’ve cleaned up the More Options menu (“…”) so it’s easier to find the actions you use most. * To make upgrading effortless, we added a button to the toolbar. We promise it won’t bite, but don’t worry, you can always remove it if you’d prefer. * Since we recently changed our appearance (does this color make our sidebar look big?), we tweaked our background colors to match. Fixes: * We fixed a problem where you wouldn’t see a note snippet if the note hadn’t synced properly. * If you had more than one line of text highlighted when you tried to remove a link, all the links in the note would disappear. We’ll admit, that was taking things too far. * Now and then, loading web views would cause a crash, but we fixed that. * Sometimes, annotating a PDF would cause a crash, which was a big fail. * The app would sometimes crash when checking for updates. Since updates are healthy, we put a stop to that. * Pasting into a numbered or bulleted list would remove the list text between any images. This was less than ideal, but on the bright side, we fixed it. * The app was forgetting your Shared with Me column widths after you closed it, which is probably not what you expected. * Shared notebooks weren’t showing up in your Shared with Me list. And notebooks deserve love too. * Triple-clicking one line of copy pasted in front of text on another line would break the list. But that’s a thing of the past. * If you added Japanese characters to a bulleted list, the formatting would look weird, which was unfortunate. * If you had 2-byte characters in a table (for example, Chinese or Japanese characters), adding a bullet point would break the table. And only WWE wrestlers should be allowed to break tables. * Underlining couldn’t be removed from text in a table, which wasn’t helpful. * Turning bold text off then pasting something into a list would turn bold back on. We really like bold, but that’s taking things too far. * If you pasted bulleted lists separated by paragraphs from Word into Evernote, the gaps would disappear. You could say it was a big mess. * Pasting data from Excel into Evernote needed a table upgrade, but there was no way for you to do it. That was an embarrassing oversight on our part. * Pasting text into Evernote from a coding text editor messed up the formatting, but it should be smooth sailing now. * Occasionally, changes you made to a note, including moving it to a different notebook, wouldn’t sync. Things should be back to normal now though. * Occasionally, dragging a note from a space to the trash folder would cause the app to crash, but that’s no more.
  11. After scanning a business card (with ScanSnap Evernote Edition), most of the card data is correctly populated in Evernote. I can do small edits, but cannot figure out how to correct data that was missed. For example, Evernote correctly picked up 2 out of 3 phone numbers, but I cannot seem to add the 3rd one to the Evernote card record. Evernote also missed the URL on the card, and I cannot figure out how to add a URL field (do I need to put that in the notes section?). Is the business card functionality really that immature (alpha? pre-alpha?), or am I just being really dense? both?
  12. The "Tool Size" feature seems to have no effect on the size of stamps. I am trying to markup screenshots of charts and graphs, and since the stamps are set to an obnoxiously large size, it makes it virtually impossible to use them in this way. They would be an awesome tool for what I'm trying to do (e.g., making flashcards with the "?" stamp) but until I can make them a lot smaller it's just not going to happen =/ Is there a way to change the size of stamps? (If not, there definitely ought to be!) Thanks!
  13. Hi there, I know how to change the font of the note in Evernote's Mac client with the mouse, and I have found the keyboard shortcuts for changing the size of the font. My question is: Is there also a keyboard shortcut to change the font type? Alternatively, is it possible to do this with an applescript or something similar? Thanks, Jo

  15. Many times per day, the "Create a Space" window appears when I Command-Tab to switch back to Evernote. It's crazy-making. I click the back button, but it doesn't go away. The only way to get rid of it is to close the entire window and then do "New Window" from the File menu to start over with my normal Evernote window. I wish I could attach the screen shot, but basically it's the entire Evernote screen. Anyone else seeing this? Is it on a bug list? I'd email Evernote support, but for some reason I can't log in on the site to do so due to our Evernote business account using the Okta verification.
  16. Hello folks, Evernote for Mac 7.6 Beta 3 is now available. You can download it here. This release is mainly focused on crashes and dark mode refinements. Please keep the feedback coming our way. Enjoy! 7.6 Beta 3 Improvements and fixes: More Dark Mode refinement in many areas of the application Accessibility fixes Many crash fixes Note canvas enables dark mode automatically based on System Preferences settings, but you still have the option to overwrite it in Evernote's preferences. Now you can export notes again by dragging them out of the note list. Known issues: Spotlight search results are not populating for Mojave users Context hasn't had dark mode applied yet.
  17. Hey Folks, Evernote 7.7 Beta 1 is now available for download. Get it here! Fixed and Improved: Fixed an issue where notes and resources with long titles would fail HTML export Fixed an issue where using macOS's share extension to create a note would create a duplicate note Fixed an issue where business notebooks would remain in the Evernote account after leaving a business Improved performance for larger accounts Fixed an issue exporting local notes Miscellaneous crash fixes including crashes during annotation Miscellaneous UI fixes and improvements. Known issues: Spotlight search is not working for Mojave users. Search highlight doesn't scroll with the note. Text appears fuzzy for non retina displays. Please know we're working on fixing these issues above. Thanks again for your help reporting bugs.
  18. This feature is actually the one thing that I have been searching for on all the different note taking apps - the ability to aggregate all to-do's written in different notes into a single view. The problem that I am solving is that I am in 7-12 hours of meetings per day and in each one I take a significant amount of notes. I would like to continue taking them in Evernote, but in each of those meetings there are to-do's that I write down that I need to action. Generally, I don't have time to switch between the current note that I am in to take notes on the discussion and a different note to jot down a to-do AND if I do that, then I lose the context of the to-do. I know that there is the note filtering feature (todo:false), but that doesn't exactly do what I want. I don't want to see all the notes that I have to-do's in and go through them. What I want is a separate view (maybe an auto-generated note or something) that aggregates all the to-dos that are in all of the different notes into a single list. This way I could see the list of to-do's and action on them in one place. On each of the to-do's on the aggregated list, there should be a note link to the note where the to-do came from so that you can easily go back and get the full context if you need it.
  19. Folks - we're releasing an update to Mac 6.12 with a fix for a persistent crash some users are seeing on quit. Please help us validate and hopefully it'll provide some respite to those encountering the issue while we prep to push this out broadly early next week. You can download the Beta here. Thanks, Chantal and the rest of the Mac team
  20. This featue works when I select a word, or sentence, but it DOES NOT work when I select a paragraph, or the entire note (Select All), which is what I want to do. This is a bug or a feature? Please help. Thanks!
  21. Hi all - I primarily use Evernote for Mac (v6.7.1) and have noticed that there is a code block item under: Highlight Text > Right Click > Format > Code Block. It doesn't seem to do anything though, which makes me sad. I understand that code block formatting was introduced into Evernote web recently and it works great there.. I just tend to use the app more. Does this menu item in the Mac app actually do anything? Am I missing something obvious to be able to format code? AR
  22. In the latest Evernote version there is now a warning about moving notes into a shared folder. As someone that moves notes to a shared folder constantly, the additional click in my workflow is annoying. There should be a way to suppress this warning. Either a field when creating the shared notebook, or possibly just a checkbox on the warning itself "Do not show this warning again." I'm fine with a warning, but just make sure the warning can be suppressed. Thanks!
  23. Hello- I've noticed everynote seems to have a nasty habit of turning all text lines that starts with "-" into an indented bullet point. This feels very "Word" like's drive to make all formatting decisions for the user. This is pretty terrible on a mobile device since the indented bullets take up about 1/2 the screen and is quite frustrating on the Mac client. Is there a way to turn off this auto formatting feature. I know there is in Windows but I can't find it in mac. Thanks!
  24. Hey Folks, Evernote for Mac 7.6 is here, and we're happy to announce Dark Mode moving forward. More information can be read here. Improvements and fixes: Dark Mode Accessibility fixes Many crash fixes Known issues: Spotlight search results are not populating for Mojave users Special thanks to all our Beta testers for helping us catch and squash bugs. Enjoy!
  25. When adding tags to a note on Evernote for Mac, a list of matching tags populate a dropdown that narrow as you type. On the iOS app, all partial matches are shown, whereas on Mac and Web clients, the matching tags are only by start of text match. I would prefer partial match across all clients for consistency and easier tag adding.
