  1. I found the manual for EN2.2, which lists keyboard shortcuts, e.g. for bulleted lists, but many formatting shortcuts don't seem to work in the Mac OS version. E.g. Ctrl-M for indent. (Even when I substitute Cmd for Ctrl.) Am I missing something? Is there a manual for 3.0 or for the Mac edition? Thanks!
  2. A while back, I created a note entitled "favorite acoustic-guitar sample," and today I needed to find that note. So, I searched on the word "guitar" -- but nothing came up. I knew it was there, so this left me quite confused. Finally, I thought of another word that was likely to be in the note, searched on that word, and found the note. This suggested that Evernote may not have been recognizing the word "guitar," since it was preceeded by a hyphen. So, I removed the hypen and performed the search again, which worked as expected. However, after replacing the hyphen, I expected the note would, once again, not be found when I searched on the word "guitar." But to my surprise, the note is in fact now being found (even with the hyphen). I'd have felt better if this were a consistent, easily-reproduceable bug. But this inconsistent behavior is more disturbing. :-) I wonder what caused the note not to be found at first, and I'm nervous about what other searches might return incomplete results, due to similar anomalies.
  3. I've been using Evernote for a couple of weeks now, and would love to use it exclusively, but the inability to link notes together in a "wiki" like structure is killing me. I've seen other posts mentioning that this feature may have existed in the windows client at some point, and that it's on the todo list, but is there any approximate release date? You've got me signed up for a year of service the day it happens but until then I guess I'm sticking with VoodooPad.
  4. I couldn't find any information regarding having multiple users for the desktop client. Here's my situation and question: Both my wife and I use Evernote, and for the next two weeks, I'll be using her machine as mine's in the shop. Her Desktop App is set up to sync with her account. I couldn't find a way to log out and log in with my user name. I toyed with the idea of changing the sync info, but got scared that it would send out her notebooks to my account and possibly overwrite my info, or add her notes to my notes. Neither of which I want to happen. I don't mind using the web version of EN, but I've become so used to the convenience of the desktop version, I'd much rather use it. So is there a way to switch users shy of uninstalling and reinstalling the app? Thanks! Matt
  5. I use Evernote for organizing my note and writings that are written in two languages, English and Persian. But I have a hard time adding text that is written in Persian to Evernote. Persian, like Arabic and Hebrew, is a Right-to-Left Language. The problem is that when I add the text to Evernote it keeps re-formating it as a left-to-right text. Even when I change the direction and save it it automatically changes the direction to left-to-right. It would be great to fix this bug so it can be used for Right-to-Left Languages.
  6. I just discovered that Evernote has cut most pdfs with many pages. These pdfs just end on a half-rendered page. I really hope there is an easy fix for this. If these pdfs are broken, I do not know what to do. The amount of important information that will be gone is just to painful to think about. Does anyone else have this problem?
  7. I wanted to share how I use a scanner to scan directly into Evernote using a Mac. To scan I used a program called 'Image Capture' that comes standard with OS X (/Applications/Image Capture). This app automatically detected my scanner as a capture device (it supports most common scanners and cameras). In essence all you have to is set Evernote as the 'Automatic Task' as well as some reasonable defaults for the quality of the scan (as you can see on the screenshot). Some notes: using 1-bit PNG files makes the files very small, but the quality is not really good. I would probably suggest to experiment with some different settings to see what quality suits your purposes. Another point worth mentioning is that if you use PDF as a format – Еvernote doesn't currently make them searchable. To leverage the image-recognition use JPEG or PNG. Hope this helps someone. I currently use this setup myself and it is working pretty well. In the near future I also plan to make some Automator/AppleScript actions to automate this even further. Best, -Alex
  8. If you want to set up an auto-import folder for the Mac Evernote client, here's what you need to do: - First up, you want to create the auto-import folder in the Finder. For this guide, we'll create a folder on the Desktop called "Evernote Auto-Import". - The next step is to enable Folder Actions. Right click on the auto-import folder and choose "Enable Folder Actions": - Now, we want to make a script. Create the script using Script Editor and save it in "Library/Scripts/Folder Action Scripts" Our script will look like this: -- -- Folder Action script to add items to Evernote when they appear in a folder -- -- after clipping, we'll move files into here property done_foldername : "Clip Successful" -- if the clip fails, we'll move files into here property failed_foldername : "Clip Failed" on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items try -- iterate of files added repeat with i from 1 to number of items in these_items set this_item to item i of these_items tell application "Evernote" -- clip it! create note from file this_item title "Auto Import " & this_item end tell tell application "Finder" -- make sure our 'success' destination folder exists if not (exists folder done_foldername of this_folder) then make new folder at this_folder with properties {name:done_foldername} end if set done_folder to folder done_foldername of this_folder -- move the file we just clipped into our success folder move this_item to done_folder with replacing -- all done end tell end repeat on error e -- uh oh. bad things happened. tell application "Finder" -- make sure our 'failed' folder exists if not (exists folder failed_foldername of this_folder) then make new folder at this_folder with properties {name:failed_foldername} end if set failed_folder to folder failed_foldername of this_folder -- move the failed file into the failed folder move this_item to failed_folder with replacing -- display the error message display dialog e buttons {"Cancel"} default button 1 giving up after 120 end tell end try end adding folder items to - Finally, link up the folder and the script by right-clicking on the auto-import folder and choosing "Attach a Folder Action..." from the menu: Now choose the script we just created, and that's it! Yer ready to go. Drag an image or file into the folder to try it out. If the clip is successful, the file gets moved into a sub-folder called "Clip Successful", and if it fails, it goes into a sub-folder called "Clip Failed" and the Finder will display the error message.
  9. Evernote inserts 5 spaces when tab is pressed, rather than a tab stop. How can I make it actually insert a tab? Cheers, Gavin.
  10. Okay, now this may sound stupid, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. How do I make a To-Do list? I keep seeing everyone mentioning To-Do lists, but the closest thing I can find is making a regular Notebook titled "To-Do", or making a label like that. I understand that it may be a simple question, but a simple answer is all I need!
  11. Hi, I just began using Evernote and I quickly ran into a bug... If I start typing a new tag and there is one already existing, starting with the same letter but a different case, it won't let me put a different case to the first letter. Here's an example: - In a note, type the new tag "skill", and validate - Now try adding the new tag "SDL". When you type 'S', it will autocomplete to "skill". When you type the "D", it will cancel the autocomplete, and you're left with "sD" instead of "SD". - I even tried hitting the left arrow key to go back and try changing the 's' to 'S' but it validated the tag as "D" when I hitted backspace :/ I hope it'll get fixed some time. But right now, anyone know of a workaround to have my tag with the correct case ? Thanks.
  12. Hi, I've been a user of Evernote on the Mac since the beta. One of the joys of using a Mac for me is using Quicksilver, which is a launcher/data management helper app that incredibly extensible. If you've never used Quicksilver, I encourage you to go to http://www.blacktree.com/ and have a look, or look at Lifehacker's extension coverage of Quicksilver at http://lifehacker.com/software/quicksilver/. My question is: are there any plans to integrate Evernote with Quicksilver, through a plug-in of some sort? The interaction could be as simple as "create a new note", or "show me all notes that have the following tags", or "search for notes containing the following text". If anyone's familiar with Quicksilver, I would encourage you to have a look at the Stikkit plug-in for ideas of functionality, as it's very well implemented. I've seen on the board that an API is in the works. This will probably help a lot in developing a Quicksilver plug-in. I believe that Quicksilver has recently gone open-source, and if the Evernote API is free for anyone to use, then anyone with the technical know-how would be able to develop an Evernote Quicksilver plug-in. I was just wondering if anyone on the Evernote team uses Quicksilver, and if there any any plans or intentions to develop an official plug-in for Evernote access. Thanks for the great software!
  13. Does anyone know how I would go about finding all of the individual notes/web-clippings in all of my various notebooks that currently do not have any tags applied to them (so that I could then do a little housekeeping and begin tagging these items)? Thanks!
  14. I recently erased and rebuilt the Spotlight index on my Mac. After reindexing was finished, the Evernote data that had been there before was now missing. Spotlight found content from all the other document types, but not from Evernotes as it had before. Then I noticed that if I modified a note, it reappeared in the index and Spotlight found the note again. I looked in the Evernote preferences for a command to force a reindex for all of my notes, but didn't find any. Finally, I decided to go through all my notes, one by one, and make a minor modification to each. I only had a couple dozen notes, so this wasn't an unreasonable effort. If I'd have hundreds or even more, it would be a nightmare taking hours or days to complete. Also the trick isn't perfect, because it messes the modification time for each note. It looks like Evernote doesn't expose the database contents when Spotlight crawler is performing a rescan. I think this a major flaw and should be fixed. Alternatively, there should be a command in the client to force a Spotlight reindex.
  15. I have a .SQL file (which is basically just plain text) and I can't seem to drag and drop it onto a notebook to import it. I renamed the file to add a .TXT extension, and then it worked. Is there a way to make the drag and drop import support a bit more robust? I can rename files, but it's a hassle ... Thanks!
  16. Hi Guys, first let me say Evernote is awesome. Truly awesome. If it stayed exactly as it is today I would be happy however I wanted to make some suggestions. Please, please don't take this as negative criticisms. It is not meant that way. From my perspective the big weakness of the mac app at the moment is the text editing functionality. Although it does the basics it does have some problems. Whether it is just me or whether it is a broader problem but I find the editor buggy to say the least. Formatting is often changed, fonts randomly alter and if I make something bold or italic I cannot change it back. You are also missing basic features like... 1. Links 2. Headings, sub headings etc 3. Bullets 4. Tables I recognise that building a text editor cannot be easier but are there not any off the shelf solutions you could just plugin? Would it be possible just to plug a wysiwyg HTML editor in. That would do nicely. Okay, I will stop now. I am just demonstrating my ignorance of application development. Keep up the good work and dont let us nit pickers get you down. Just wanted to make sure you knew what I wanted so you can put all your efforts into designing the world around me and my needs
  17. Is there a method to add a link to individual Evernote 'notes' within documents in Apple Pages and TextEdit. I'm working on a document which in some cases references a note in an Evernote Notebook. I want to put a link to that note in my document so that clicking on it will open the specific document in Evernote. This is just for my personal use, so that while working on my Pages or TextEdit document I can review my Evernote material immediately, and without having to do a Search in Evernote. Is this possible? Thanks.
  18. I scan handwritten notes on a weekly basis into a directory on my computer. Is there a way to automatically import only the new notes into Evernote automatically? I suspect that I could write an automator action that uses an "open -a" terminal command to do it myself, but before doing so I'm hoping someone else already has or that this feature is on the short term roadmap for en. Any luck? T
  19. Any plans to implement image rotation or support for exif rotation data? I dragged a photo I had taken in the "wide" position from my iPhone, I corrected it in Preview but Evernote doesn't appear to respect the rotation data set by the application.
  20. Hi there, Love Evernote - even when it isn't working for me, which latterly seems to be rather frequently. (I am using the latest version.) Here is the issue: When I create a note, I can't select it, or indeed any other notes that I have made. Sometimes, they are visible in the list, sometimes they are not. The only way I can get the new notes to come up is if I quit and relaunch. I recently created a snapshot, which worked just fine - and only appeared after I quit and relaunched. In addition, switching between notebooks is inconsistent. When I select a notebook, I do not always get its contents, and have to click around for a couple of minutes to get what I want. Below are the last few references to activities in Evernote, as they appear in the Console. Any ideas what could be wrong? 2008.07.01 14:04:15 Evernote[2397] *** -[NSCFBoolean caseInsensitiveCompare:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa08ff400 2008.07.01 14:04:22 Evernote[2397] *** -[NSCFBoolean caseInsensitiveCompare:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa08ff400 2008.07.01 14:04:22 Evernote[2397] *** -[NSCFBoolean caseInsensitiveCompare:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa08ff400 2008.07.01 14:04:30 Evernote[2397] *** -[NSCFBoolean caseInsensitiveCompare:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa08ff400 2008.07.01 14:04:30 Evernote[2397] *** -[NSCFBoolean caseInsensitiveCompare:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa08ff400 2008.07.01 14:05:59 Evernote[2397] *** -[NSCFBoolean caseInsensitiveCompare:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa08ff400 2008.07.01 14:05:59 Evernote[2397] *** -[NSCFBoolean caseInsensitiveCompare:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa08ff400 Cheers, Joss :?
  21. I've read some discussion about conflicting changes and why it appears, but I wonder if there is a way to remove it from my list of Notebooks in Evernote for Mac. I've deleted the one note that was in there but when I tried to delete the notebook I received the dialogue asking if I really wanted to, I said yes - and nothing happened. Restarted - empty Conflicting Changes notebook is still there.
  22. While I'm editing a note, the Sync fires up (which is fine!) and then jumps my cursor to the top. This is really annoying when I'm working on a really long note. I guess I can turn off Synching or deactivate my internet connection or something, but that seems drastic. Any one have any other suggestions? Maybe I should submit, "Remember where the cursor/scroll is and return there if I am editing a note and a Synch starts" as a feature request? -d
  23. I'm sure this is addressed someplace but I couldn't find anything... Is there anyway to put reminders or alarms on individual notes? If not are there plans to do so? This would be a great feature! RBSplat "This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as when the baby gets hold of a hammer." ~Will Rogers
