  1. Over the weekend I filled my Evernote account with some paper stuff, invoices etc. After I've finished, my Evernote Mac client showed some strange behavior: - Whenever I tried to do a search within all notebooks, it didn't filter anything but still showed all notes. But it didn't highlight any text found. - More serious, I wasn't able to reset the search. - And I wasn't able to select any other notebook. The effect is similar to what has been posted here. The only way to revive Evernote was to restart the application Took me a complete reinstall of Evernote on several Macs, a complete reload of the database from the Evernote server, trashing all preferences etc. - which all didn't help - until I found the culprit by isolating each note into a separate notebook and doing a search just within this notebook. I had imported 7 invoices from T-Mobile Germany as PDFs, which I've downloaded from the web (not scanned), into Evernote. Whenever I do a search on a notebook, that contains one of these notes, Evernote enters this coma state. Interestingly the IPhone and the webclient have not problems wit these PDFs. Didn't test on windows. I can't post these invoices publicly, because they contain private data, but I can move them to a shared notebook and share it with Evernote support, so you can have a look into the structure of these PDFs. 2. I'm looking for a standard separator to replace all my previous uses of "@" as a keyword marker. I tried *, &, $, _ and they are all also treated as whitespace. Suggestions? Is this style of defining search keywords deprecated in Evernote? Thanks!
  3. Getting the following annoying message even though we are logged in To view this page, you must log in to this area on secure.my name.com:443: Then a name and password box where we enter our evernote user name and password again and again with no results. The work around is we have to hit cancel over and over while syncing to get at our notes We have multiple macs adding content on the same network Thanks
  4. I have the new Scansnap S1300 and I am using it with the Scansnap Manager software on the Mac. My question is about using the supplied OCR software that came with the Fujitsu. Compared to the last 300m model this comes with ABBYY Fine Reader OCR. I am scanning with the Fujitsu software manager and it is going directly to Evernote. (cool!) 1) Should I run this OCR every time with each scan? It takes longer though because it is processing the OCR and then sending the OCR file to Evernote. 2) OR, should I just scan as PDF and send to Evernote and let Evernote process the OCR? (This is quicker) 3) What is the difference technically, do you think? Is Evernote running superior OCR? Will Evernote return that OCR'd PDF to my local client? I do not mind paying the premium membership if this is somehow a better work flow. I am just beginning my home scanning and I want to start the right work flow. Thanks for any help! Wayne
  5. When you select the tags in the tags field of a note to copy/paste that exact tag combination to another not, the changed date of the the source note is updated to the current time, although nothing has really changed. This is somewhat annoying, as copy/paste a tag combination from one note to another is currently the only way to apply a fixed combination of tags to a note. Pete
  6. Hi all, I am a premium user and I have attached some archive files (tar.gz) as well as some PDFs and .doc files to my notes. However, when I view the note, I see just a blue lego block with ? in place of the attachments and I cannot open the attachments. Any ide what is happening and how to rectify it?
  7. Hi, My endnote files on my mac became corrupted and would not sync with the endnote cloud. I disabled syncing for this mac and exported all my files to the desktop as I had some files that I was sure were different on this mac. Today evernote would not load at all. I decided that I would start with a clean slate and moved all my evernote files out of the library and started endnote from scratch. Now I would like to import my 'local' data back into evernote and then sync to the could so that any changes will be moved there. This is the way I have solved sync problems with other mac programs (safari bookmarks, calendar, address boook). How do I import my database back into evernote. It looks like I can only do one evernote exported files at a time and some can't be imported as they are dark? That is going to take a while for hundreds of notes...How do I ensure that notes on the cloud will be saved and only the ones that are different on this mac will be saved? Is there a merge option? I have seen the threads about Evernote not having a 'real' export and import ability but I felt that this was a sufficiently different thread Thanks David
  8. I was trying to understand why my Evernote database size was getting so big. I looked inside the "Evernote/data" folder and find that for every text note, Evernote seems to be storing a PNG file with an image of that note several times times bigger than the source (see attachment). Is this needed just for the "icon" view? Any way this can be turned off (I never use this view anyway)? 80% of my storage size is just these PNG files? Thanks!
  9. I'm new to EN. I want to keep only simple notes and want them listed alphabetically, the notes not tags. All i see is first or last in sorting. Is alphabetical listing possible??
  10. Hi all, Just starting to try out Evernote to see if it will suit me. A major problem I have run into is that the Chrome clipping extension seems to ignore CSS styling when clipping a web page. The result is a pretty ugly mess on many sites that makes it hard to read stored content. I have tried printing as PDF to Evernote, but that seems to ignore CSS too. Even if the PDF did properly render CSS I would still not have live links, which would be another big issue. Is this something I am doing wrong, or a known bug with the chrome clipper? Anybody else run into this problem? Other than this I am loving Evernote so far. If I can just get past this issue then it might be viable. I guess if I have to switch to Safari (I guess the clipper is more mature for safari) then I would be willing to do that, but I would rather stick with Chrome if possible. Thanks for your help. Tom
  11. When I am typing in a word into the Search field, each extra character I type should narrow the search results. This is how incremental search should behave. More selection criteria, tighter results. Evernote does NOT do this. Instead, it only puts things into the search results when the complete word matches. Worse, this also means that if I search for "candidate", Evernote will completely exclude a note that has "candidates". And, when I am typing incrementally, "candidate" shows 0 results, but when I type that extra "s" I suddenly see 20 results. This is not intuitive, and makes it much easier to miss stuff I actually have saved. Please, can the search be made a bit more sane on this front? Is that even feasible? Thanks EDIT: I tested the above with an advanced tag search "tag:candidate" vs. "tag:candidates", and it behaved badly as above. A normal text search of content seems to behave more reasonably, so the problem may be limited to search-field based tag searches.
  12. In the latest build of EN for Mac, we still seem to have the problem of pasted text not using the default as set. In Preferences, I have Note Text set to default to Comic Sans at size 14 (ok, ok, I know... ) But I just pasted two articles from a couple of newsgroups, on Usenet, out of Thunderbird. In T'Bird, they show as plain text, as is the Usenet protocol. However, when pasted into Evernote on the Mac, they remained as Courier, instead of defaulting to Comic Sans. Is that the way it is supposed to happen? Or should pasted text change to the default font? It would be great if the default font applied to ANY text pasted into EN - which is what I assume "Default" to mean.
  13. Do this: - Select an entire Notebook --> shows (say) 100 items - Select a Saved Search --> shows (say) 10 items - De-Select that Saved Search (Cmd-Click) --> still shows 10 items The criteria for the saved search does not get reset when that saved search is deselected. Can also be seen by "View Search Explanation". Ouch. I am getting a bit concerned by these glitches. Thanks!
  14. I just downloaded Evernote for my Mac OS X 10.5.8 It worked at first, but then I copied some text into a new note. It crashed immediately and now every time I try to open it, it crashes within 10 seconds. I tried reinstalling it, and rebooting my computer. No luck. How can I get it to stop crashing so I can actually use Evernote?
  15. I'm wondering if there is any way to create a local shortcut to a specific note? Ideally, I'd like to be able to just drag the note to the desktop to create a link. I'm used to being able to do this with Journler, and have made most of use of it by dragging notes into the "Notes" field of a task in Things.
  16. Hi, It would be great to be able to assign custom keyboard shortcuts to saved searches. Or at least to be able to access them through some previously established keyboard shortcut keys like cmd+alt+1, cmd+alt+2, etc. I feel that every time I have to move between contexts I have to think about navigation, look for the correct search in the left pane and click it. An application like Evernote would have a lot to gain in having well sorted out keyboard shortcuts for all its features. Nuno
  17. I'm not having any problems with Evernote. Frankly, I love it! But I noticed that when I save web pages as PDF into Evernote, the temporary PDF files created in /var/folders/yQ//-Tmp-/ are not getting cleaned up. Small issue, but it would be nice if they got cleaned up. Thanks.
  18. Having developed a few AppleScripts for Evernote at this point, I have tried to keep track of both my own issues and those of my fellow scripters who post here. I thought I'd make a new post where I'd share a few observations to perhaps identify places where the implementation needs help and also to (hopefully) generate interest and good ideas for the future! [*:1e69hvlq]Fixes. As I've recently discovered, "Get Every Note in Notebook" also returns notes that are in the Trash (a.k.a., "Inactive Notes") -- but only active notes are returned if using the "find notes" query. It would probably make sense to make the "every note" command work the same way as "find notes" but, if there is a reason not to do that, could we at least have an "active" modifier made available through AS so that we can avoid the trashed notes? [*:1e69hvlq]Selected Note / Selected Notebook. If these were detectable via AS, we could really do some fun stuff with keyboard shortcuts and use Evernote's interface to select which notes we wanted to run our scripts on. [*:1e69hvlq]More note elements "scriptable". Currently, note text (or even the raw XML) isn't visible through AppleScript. For example -- if I wanted to script a "find and replace" function, I would have to export the notes that I wanted to parse, run a script on them that does the find-and-replace of the exported files, and then I'd have to reimport the changed notes (while attempting to preserve the other data in situ). Seems like it would be easier if we could do something like: set EVText to the body text of selected note Is that dreaming the impossible dream? [*:1e69hvlq]Tags and Attachments. Tags and Attachments are currently only "GET" enabled, not "SET" enabled. As a result, I currently have to create a whole new note if I want to change a note's tag via Applescript. I know that the "many to many" relationship between tags and notes is an issue, but it would be nice to have it editable on a per-note basis, a la: set tag of (note X) to "y" Adding deeper access to attachments would be nice as well... can we get a direct, scriptable link to the attachment? [*:1e69hvlq]URI Links to Notes In Evernote. If I export a note from Evernote to another app, it would be nice to have a link back to it available, a la Apple Mail, DEVONthink, OmniFocus, or Yojimbo's URI links. [*:1e69hvlq]Author. Author property needs to be writable. [*:1e69hvlq]Append / Prepend / Note Merge. I think we should be able to do this to our notes via script as well. Anyone else have any thoughts?
  19. hi all, links are not always formatted correctly, please see the attached images. i bounced all those mails to my EN-mail-account, so there is no way for me to change anything inside the mail. i think, this one is ok? p.s. i had to censor some information, but i cut out only 0-9, a-z, A-Z. no special chars.
  20. - True hierarchical tagging system with auto-population of parent tags. - Applying predefined tag-sets to notes. - Folders to group notebooks. Are these in the pipeline? Any ETA? Pete
  21. I use Evernote to sync notes from my mac to my Droid phone. From my mac, I would like to push most categories (notebooks) on my mac Evernote to Evernote's 'cloud.' But I do not want all of them to be transferred to my Droid phone, as this would take too much of its memory. To do this (with my limited knowledge of Evernote) I have assigned only one notebook (named "Droid") as a "Synchronized Notebook," so it will be pushed automatically from my mac-to Evernote's cloud-to my Droid. All my other notebooks have been assigned as "Local Notebooks," which, of course, sadly cannot be pushed to Evernote's cloud. This is an unsatisfactory solution, for while I'm able to sync specified notes from my mac to my Droid via a "Synchronized (Droid) Notebook," all my other notebooks are "local" & unable to be pushed to Evernote's cloud, so that they will be synced with my Droid. A satisfactory solution would be to have all my Notebooks pushed to Evernote's cloud, but allow only a few of them to be synced to my Droid. Is there a satisfactory solution? Steve.
  22. Hi, Several times I am writing in two or more notes stored in different notebooks. Everytime I switch between them I am forced to browse or search for it. It would be much simpler if I had a pair of back/forward buttons like finder and all browsers have. Even better if they'd use the standard macbook three-finger gesture to move back and forward between the notes I'm working on. Can this be done today? If not, it woud be a great feature. Thanks, Nuno
  23. After the recent update released, Version 1.7.2 (76128), all my local notebooks have been removed. Anyone have any ideas? This is a very serious WTH moment.
  24. hi all, please see the video and tell me, if you can reproduce the freezing :-) copying only the data works. copying the whole worksheet will freeze evernote. http://screencast.com/t/NDNhNTcy cheers,
  25. Try the following. Make 5 text notes: 1.) Text: New York, Tag: city 2.) Text: San Francisco, Tag: city 3.) Text: New York, Tag: none 4.) Text: San Francisco, Tag: none 5.) Text: Las Vegas, Tag: city Type the following search string into the search field: tag:city any: "New York" "San Francisco" I would have expected this finds only 1. and 2. (notes tagged with city and text either "New York" or "San Francisco"). In fact it finds all 5. (notes either tagged with city or text "New York" or "San Francisco"). Something wrong with the any: search or something wrong with my understanding, how the any: search in Evernote should work? Pete
