  1. Just wondering - I have a bunch of links in different notes and by default when I click on them they open up in the default browser (in my case, Chrome). However, is it at all possible to specify that some links open in a different browser? So, for example, Link1 to open in Chrome (default) Link2 to open in Firefox I understand that Evernote just passes the URL to the OS to handle, but can I add anything to the URL (via the edit window) to tell the OS to use a different browser? Thx.
  2. It doesn't seem possible (correct me if I'm wrong) and I would like to be able to add a link within a note to a tag, so that if I click (or double-click) on it, it will change the current selection to that tag. You can have links to notes, but not tags as far as I can tell. I have quite a few tags, and for my active projects I have an index page (which I can quickly pull up via a saved search) which contains some basic information about that project and links to key notes. I want to be able to filter against the tag for that project more-or-less directly without having to hunt through my long list of nested tags in the tag selector. My index page for that project is already tagged with that desired tag, and an alternative would be to be able to drag a tag from the tag list of a note into the search box so that that then became the active filter. It's just a speedier way of selecting tags than the current option when you have quite a lengthy nested tag structure. Thanks!
  3. Dear all, Using more and more internal links to interconnect and structure my notes, I wonder what become these links when the pointed-to note is deleted. Are the links let broken? Deleted? Your insight about that question will be valuable. Thanks in advance and kind regards Thierry Chappuis
  4. I can no longer link between notes on my desktop. When I try, I click on the link and it now takes me to my browser rather than the note in my evernote app. Help! What happened! I need this for work...
  5. I'm new to the Evernote forum, so I apologize for adding this in the wrong section. I just started using this app on my iPad mini a few months ago. I love the new ios 7 design, but I'm already confused on a lot of things. First, ever since Evernote updated for ios 7, the adding and customizing hyperlink button at the bottom of the note screen is gone. Sometimes my numbers would also highlight as if they were urls, but they're not. How can I link/unlink urls? Can we customize them anymore? Second, the spell check has been acting up. I have to tap it twice to get the "Replace" option to fix my spelling. Incorrect spelling has also stopped underlining. What am I doing wrong with the new ios 7 Evernote?
  6. Hello everyone, So I've searched for an author's name inside Evernote, and I got back a number of results. These range from quotes, to web clipped articles, to PDFs. It would be unbelievably cool to create links from those matches to some other note. In this case, I have created a note for each author that I'm researching, and I'd love to be able to make those matches into links to that particular note. I know I can do it one by one, but it would rock if there was a way to do this automatically using the search results. Imagine the possibilities Thank you for listening! p.s.: If this is already possible, please let me know how and accept my apologies.
  7. Hey there, It would be a nice additional feature if there was a way to have different colors for internal links (from one note to another) and for external links (from a note to an external web page or file). It's possible to change the color manually, but if this was done automatically, it would make Evernote even more fantastic. Thanks for listening
  8. I like to share but sometimes I need to be more secure! Sharing my data stored in Evernote with those who don't use Evernote sounds useful, however is this funcationality any better than publishing the information on your own blog site and linking to that instead? I know Evernote provides a link which cannot be searched by the likes of Google but is that enough? The link can be circulated to any party without sight of who is accessing it. You could adopt a policy of only sharing data already in public domain. Things that can be done to improve data control. 1. Link expiry. If you no longer wish to share, expire the link. Currently doesn't exist in Evernote Business but should be a straight forward win. 2. Use certicates to encrypt. Present an access log to my data. e.g. Reporting back on certificate use and data decryption, when, where and who. The recipient of the link would follow a simple registeration process, create an account, access the data. Now if I no longer wish to share the data I can revoke the certificate and stop decryption. None of these exist in the Business product yet they would improve the security of the service.
  9. I'm able to create note links through the Windows and Mac clients. The note links also appear on my Android devices and they function correctly. The problem I'm having is - I open a note containing note links on my Samsung Galaxy S4 or my Motorola Xoom Tablet, edit the note (not the link in the note), save the note, and re-sync. That note that I edited loses it's note links on all platforms after the sync. This wasn't happening before. I've tried searching for existing problems regarding note links and Android, but all I've been able to find are discussion threads regarding not being able to create links on Android devices. Of course my issue is different. Can anyone offer any insight or suggestions? Thank you in advance.
  10. Every time I enter a numeral in an Evernote note on my Android phone it appears to be treated as a telephone number, though when synced to my PC version it is not. I find this extremely annoying, being in at my grumpy time of life. I am sure there must be a way to solve this but so far it has alluded me. Can anyone suggest a method please? Gerry
  11. Howdy, I am new to Evernote and have found it really useful, particularly for things like keeping web clippings handy while putting together a new computer. There is one bit of functionality that I haven't yet quite figured out. I can't figure out how to manually add links. I can paste in the URL it will make a clickable link that will open that web page, but I cannot find a way to create an HTML style link. What I get is links that look like "http://discussion.evernote.com/" rather than what I want which is a link that looks like "Evernote Forum" and goes to that URL. I have used the web clipper stuff to paste in a few links but when I try to add to the list I am having some trouble. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  12. Hello, I tried finding a similar request but did not see anything recent. I am looking for note links sent by email to a smartphone (specifically Android) to open in the Evernote App. Currently when I email a note link (not a web url) and try to open in my smart phone I only have options to open in my browser. This does not work and ends up going to a blank web page. I am looking for something similar to how youtube links open in the youtube app and google map links can be opened in maps. This feature would be very helpful, especially as a business user who emails note links to co-workers phones quite often. It would be nice for the links to work on all devices instead of just in windows. Thanks, Jon
  13. It would be great to be able to link notes within eachother on the mobile versions. I use this feature a lot but mobile access is usually the only access I have and I don't like having to create a shared note to get a clickable link in another note. Not only is it a privacy issue, it's messy looking. Also, the ability to copy whole notes on mobile connection would be greatly appreciated. You know what it's like trying to drag a stylus or finger down a long passage of text. Not fun. But seriously, in-note linking would make my Evernote experience much less of a hassle. Thanks!
  14. Here is a handy thing I use frequently: When I am writing books, or copying chapters of other books, I like to have each capter in a separate note. I label them in order: Hamlet 01, Hamlet 02, etc. I use two digits if I have more than 9 chapters so they will stay in order in the list. Then I make a top level note: Hamlet In this I put the over view stuff, then a list of chapter titles each prefaced by the link to it. For each chapter I start the title line with a link back to the top level note, then a space, then two tabs, then the chapter title. The space keeps the green underline of the link from extending with the tab. Now I can go to the top level, jump to the chapter I want, then jump back to work on another one. You can even get carried away and put forward and back links.
  15. How do I include links to files in notes without uploading the file? In a note I wish to keep track of files on my computer that are relevant to the note. I do however not wish to upload the files, keep them locally. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Olaf
  16. Hi everyone, I went through the forum and I think that what I'm looking for is something called "markdown", is that correct? Not sure if it is, so here's my question. I use Evernote for lots of things, as many of you do, I'm sure, and one one my favorite things is to use it to take notes when I'm reading books and I want to take some notes about, let's say Socrates. So I start writing about his life, the way he thinks and, along the way, always comes a new word that I don't know the meaning. So, what I do is (previously created a Notebook for this) go to my Dictionary notebook and create a new note inside it, use that new word as the title, type the meaning bellow and, after that, right click the note, select Copy Note Link, go back to the note about Socrates, select the new word, hold down Cmd+K and paste the link. There, a wiki-like note is created. And I'm quite happy with it, except I think it would be much easier if all the steps in between could be skipped. Right? So, any of you fellow advanced Evernote users know of a quicker way to do this? Is the Evernote team looking at all at making this possible? Would it be awfully difficult to add the "Link to New Note" option from the contextual menu where the "Link/Add ..." already exists? From what I understand, and believe me it's not too much, about the whole "markdown" thing, is that it would take quite a rewrite of Evernote's way of working, but that's for much more advanced features than the one I'm looking for, right? The only thing I would like to see is basically something that is already possible, although it takes several steps. Hope someone can provide a workaround, or that the Evernote team is thinking of implementing such a feature Thank you so much for reading. Best, Rui
  17. Hi I have kept notes in Evernote for part of Master project I now need to include all the notes in there un-doctered format as an appendix. How do I convert or incorporate them into a word document? In fact Is it possible? I have exported to my mac (am using office for mac) but when I open this returns to my Evernote account doesn't keep a copy as such, fine for me but I need to submit to college. I can't seem to transfer the exported version into the document. At this moment I'm thinking I will have to print the notes and then scan them all, just seems a bit longwinded All help much appreciated
  18. I have created a table of contents (list of links to note URLs) for the notes I use most often. On my pc, it works great. On my cell phone, when I click on a link, the file opens with a green bar across the top. I cannot edit any file with the green bar. If I go to the Evernote directory and open the same file, it opens without the green bar and I can edit the note. The phone is a Droid Bionic running android 4.1.2. What is the difference between a note with a green bar across the top and a the same note with a white bar. That seems to be the difference. White bars I can edit the note, green bars are I cannot edit. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
  19. EN, We are using EN Business as a platform to communicate with virtual team members. I have one notebook that is an online manual call HOWTOs with several procedures documented using clarify-it.com. During our business process, the following occurs SETUP I created a procedure called "HOWTO: Post project steps" to close out a project. I send the shared link for the above HOWTO: to Dustin who updates his daily check list.PROCESS A project completes Dustin send email with to Lorrie. It has the shared link. Lorrie clicks on the link. Lorrie completes the steps. Lorrie emails Dustin that she is done. Dustin updates the project tracker. Project complete and closed.PROBLEM The shared link doesn't work. Not sure what happens.. It seems to work now... https://www.evernote.com/shard/s270/sh/7596fd5c-acd6-4cdf-9416-a8662d9a9099/f357642f37b35c8effd6e1d719daa034. But in a few weeks it will not work.
  20. We can use SNS as our own memo of web sites. It's easy and fast to do. to use web clipping of Evernote is too. Which way is better to store info of web sites in the long term?
  21. I'd like to build a genealogical timeline in Excel and link back to the notes behind the information I put into the spreadsheet. I can set up the link in Excel 2011 on the Mac, but if I click on it Excel says it cannot open the file. I also see that Excel has put "file://localhost in front of the evernote link. Has anyone figured out a way around this?
  22. Hi people, How come Evernote forces us to begin all links in the CMD+K popup with "http://" otherwise it will simply not add it as a link, as the "OK" button to insert the link never becomes active? I don't understand why Evernote supports "notelinks" to allow other apps to link directly to Evernote notes, when Evernote itself doesn't allow linking out to other apps. One great example is linking to e-mail messages in Mail.app, like if you have a note and you want to link to a specific e-mail for more information, you can put a "message://" link on it, but no, Evernote doesn't allow it. Can this please be fixed? Thanks!
  23. On a Note, if you highlight a phone number, copy the number, then do Hyperlink, Add... and enter "tel:nnn-nnn-nnnn" (or really any number following the tel:) if you bring up the note on a mobile device, you can click on the number to have the phone dial it (or at least on Android phones, but I image other phones will follow the tel: type). It makes it much easier and safer to dial a number from Evernote while driving, then the current way of trying to select the number, copy and paste it into the phone app. I would like to suggest as an enhancement request that Evernote looks at the selected text, and if it is numbers, -, (, ) or spaces, the Hyperlink context menu also displays "Add Phone link...". and automatically puts the tel: in front of the phone number text.
  24. Decided to place this in the general forum since it's not platform specific... Ok - I have an article I captured into Evernote. That article has links to other articles, all of which were captured into Evernote. Since the source URL for a note is captured in the note metadata, I would like Evernote to check and see if the link in a note points to a URL that was captured and instead of opening the link in the browser, open the note that was created from that link URL. Can that be done? If so, that would be awesome. That way I don't have to ever hit the web when I have multiple notes all related by links. See the attached pic for a potential better visual explanation.
  25. Hi All, I help run a club, and when I make notes about events I usually link the names of key people who attended to various other notes in the club notebook. Currently, this is fairly time consuming, as I have to find the note, copy the link, go back to the event note, find the insert location, paste (or highlight text and paste) etc. I would much prefer it if I could use the "Add Link" dialog that comes up when you hit Ctrl-K to search for a note title (which would provide an automatic filter of available notes in the same notebook), then arrow down to, or click on, the right note if more than one note matches the filter, then hit enter and the link gets inserted at the current cursor position. Is there any chance this functionality could be added to the desktop versions of Evernote sometime soon? What if I said please? Thanks for giving this some thought! pt
