  2. Hello, I am a new user of Evernote Premium and have a somewhat generic question about saving images. I am creating Evernote notes that include various images of hand written notes, photos, typed documents, and clipped web pages. I am trying the various Evernote tools to capture these images. Probably the most common is my iPhone using the Evernote app. When capturing images I am able to "save as" Photo, Document, Color Document, Post-It Note, or Business card. Post-It Note and Business card are self explanatory but it's not clear to me when and why I would select Photo or Document. If I take a picture of something that doesn't have text should I select photo? When something has text should I select document? Is it that simple? Thank you,
  3. Aloha, This is referring to the little teeny-tiny icon that appears next to the file name field when you're ready to SEND or SAVE a scanned image. It would be helpful if this icon were changed (by color preferably) so it's easier to distinguish the file type at a glance. Mahalo & Aloha!
  4. Aloha, Over the past few days, I've been using scannable A LOT. Long ago, I selected PDF as the default scan option in settings. Yesterday and today, it seems like it's automatically reverting back to AUTO. And then, as a result, it is then choosing PNG as the file format... Of course, I'm not noticing this until after I've saved the file to Google Drive and see it's PNG instead of PDF; resulting in my needing to re-do the whole thing again. I go back to settings and change it back to PDF and it sticks for a while, then it reverts to AUTO again. It seems to happen when I close the APP and start fresh with a new session (But not always.) I'm on version 2.2 - Running IOS 10.1.1 (Haven't upgraded to 10.1.2 yet) Mahalo & Aloha,
  5. I've been a Premium user for years. I vaguely remember contacting Evernote support early on about the unreasonable number of false "words" that Evernote's OCR finds in images. I think the response was along the lines of "Yeah, OCR isn't perfect." I begged for a way to turn off this horrid feature until OCR got better. Not possible except by stopping being a Premium member. I turned to tags for searching Evernote, but I didn't like them and still don't. Typing out the syntax is a pain when you have an impaired hand (especially if the tag is more than one word), and if Evernote and I ever part ways, I'm not sure how I'd make use of these tags. Anyway, has this OCR issue been addressed? I'm about to scan a mess of paper, and am trying to decide when to go PDF and when to go JPG. Maybe it doesn't matter, and these artifacts are simply unavoidable in anything Evernote ingests? Should I just drop Premium? In case you don't understand my problem, here's an example. I have a notebook full of landscaping ideas, mostly images. If I search for any random word in that notebook, say the word "tax," the "word" is highlighted in tree trunks, grass, clouds, etc. Examples attached. A search full of false positives isn't much of a search. So I have to search by tag to avoid getting overwhelmed by garbage results. I have 162 notes in that landscaping notebook. The word tax was found correctly in one image. It was found incorrectly in the images of 14 notes. That's a 9% false positive rate. That seems really high to me. Or, to put it another way, 14 out of 15 ( 93%) of my text search results were garbage. I can't be the only one with this problem, but I couldn't find anything on this topic in a cursory search of these forums. This does remind me of the days when "subliminal" advertising was suspected by conspiracy theorists (or maybe it was real!) You know, the word "*****" embedded in every advertising image. In my case, "tax" is everywhere! Talk about unavoidable
  6. I've been using free Evernote (MacOS) to mainly clip recipes, primarily with the Opera web clipper extension, although i also sometimes use Chrome and Safari. This month i finally upgraded to a paid account. I was excited to clip in a lot of new recipes without running out of space for the month : ) But when i clip webpages into Evernote now, images do not appear inline as they used to. They are all appearing as attachments, and the attachments are .webp format so they don't display inline. I have searched on the forum and i understand that Evernote will only show .lpg images inline. But i still don't understand what's going on because: The source images are all .jpg format. The attached images in Notes are named "xxxxxx.jpg.webp". It looks like Evernote is appending the .webp extension. Why? If i right-click and rename the attached image by deleting ".webp" so they now end with ".jpg", nothing changes. Even if i restart Evernote and re-sync, the image is still an attachment, not viewed inline. This problem is consistent whether i view notes in the MacOS app or on Evernote Web. The behavior is identical whether i use webclipper through Opera, Chrome, or Safari. Any ideas about how i can fix this? I'm annoyed that this problem seems to have started the moment that i paid for Evernote! I am clipping from the same websites that i used before, can't think of anything else i'm doing differently. Thanks for your ideas!
  7. I have noticed that sometimes the scan is a .jpg and sometimes it is a .pdf, why is this? Also can it be set to only make PDF's? Thank you
  8. When annotating multiple jpg or png images, EN crashes and restarts my iPad. Is there a limit to the number or size of images EN can comfortably handle? I'd use pdfs but need to have the images displayed (as in MacOS) rather than presented as placeholder icons. Also as others have said, it would help to have the option to turn off the annotation summary in iOS. (It's tedious to revert to MacOS to turn that feature for a number of images.)
  9. I converted my Springpad to Evernote, since they are shutting down. My only problem, so far, is that the attachments in my notes won't show up........ "Image Can't be Loaded" .....................in my android device (Samsung Note 3). They do show up in my Windows version. So far, it's only jpg and it's saying I don't have a program to open it, which I know I do. Does anyone have a solution for this?
  10. Hi All, I am a huge fan of evernote and I am keen to go completerly paperless by scanning to a file any paper I do get. However I am struggling to find an optimal DPI and image format to scan and upload my bills / important papers to evernote. So far I have tried JPG and PNG at 600dpi with file sizes 1-10 and 10-40mb respectively using irfanview because I can specify where to scan each file and they are autonumbered. My problem is if evernote is to be used effectively everything should be stored in evernote - to increase the power of its search. Can anyone suggest a better option as I am only on a free account and uploading even the JPG files will use my 60mb upload limit very very quickly! Any help much appreciated. Josh.
  11. Hello. I've always tried to use the best possible quality file for all screenshots, in-case I need to edit images later, etc. I've notice though that there's differences in file-formats, depending on which "sharing option" is selected. Example: 1. I want to use PNG, and to post the image to Basecamp, so by default I'm working with a PNG: 2. If I select SHARE & COPY URL, the image that's uploaded is a PNG file (the screenshot below in-fact), but it's ONLY a PNG if the option is set to "NOTE URL" 3. If under the Options, if the selection is DIRECT IMAGE URL, the output is JPG— NOT PNG. I thought maybe this was done to save bandwidth in the end (by using a compressed JPG instead of a PNG), but the file-size is exactly the same for both versions of the image. Thanks. 12. As I am trying to go paperless, I was wondering what format would it be best to scan in. At first, I was scanning to PDF, but then realized that I when viewed on the web, I do not see the document. Instead I must open a new window to view the PDF. Also Evernote's OCR only does PDFs if you are a paid member. So I choose to scan my files into image format so that I can see the file on the web without opening a new window. I choose the PNG file format for its lower file size compared to the JPG. Recently, I learned about searchable PDF's which have a hidden text layer within the PDF which makes them searchable without Evernote's OCR. I can make these, but it takes more time and steps then just simply scanning the file. So, which should I scan my documents into: PDF, image, or searchable PDF? Thank you.
