  1. I have an .html attachment and when I click on the file opens in what appears to be a EN default display. But it does not give an option to do an "open in" to another application. Is there a way to open .html file attachments in another application?
  2. i recently imported a folder of html files into evernote. The files all came in ok, but with character encoding issues; lots of question marks in black diamonds replacing em and en dashes, curly quotes, etc. i have several hundred files so cleaning them up with find/replace is not an option -- is there a way to change the character encoding used by evernote? The html files had been batch converted from ms word 2010 files; i am unsure what character encoding was used, but the meta tags in the header are: <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Word 14 (filtered)"> Any help for a newbie is be much appreciated!
  3. The Web Clipper 'simplified article' format does a great job of extracting the essentials of a web page without unnecessary clutter. However, it should NOT in my opinion remove the <blockquote> tag. Here's why. The left-margin indent created by this tag marks the beginning and end of text from a specific source. Removing this indent will often destroy the meaning of the article by making it impossible to figure out who said what. Here is a typical example: http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/gary-johnson-offers-measured-support-nsa-whistleblower-gary-johnson Read this piece without the indents and it becomes impossible to tell for sure where one person's remarks end and another begins!
  4. One of my notes exists specifically to store common HTML tags so I can copy/paste them when I'm on mobile. Recently, mobile has decided to read the HTML automatically and use it to format the note itself. Ie, instead of showing <i>Italics text</i> it just shows "Italics text". It converts the code to rich text as soon as I save the note. Is there a way to turn this off, so I can copy/paste code snippets from the app again?
  5. There is a BUG in either the Evernote Export to HTML, or in the HTML Import to MS Word. To test out the process of moving a Note from Evernote to Word, I did the following: Create a simple EN Note by typing. Export this Note to HTML Attempt to Open this HTML file from Word Get Word Error Msg -- cannot open XML fileHas anyone else seen this? The BUG seems to be in the Evernote HTML export, because I was able to successfully import into Word a HTML file saved using FireFox of a web page. I got this error msg: Here is the contents of the HTML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/><meta name="exporter-version" content="Evernote Mac 5.5.1 (402628)"/><meta name="altitude" content="27"/><meta name="author" content="My Name"/><meta name="created" content="2014-04-26 16:22:55 +0000"/><meta name="latitude" content="30.10863745999999"/><meta name="longitude" content="-95.39710333499997"/><meta name="updated" content="2014-04-26 16:23:51 +0000"/><title>TEST Note to Export to HTML to Word</title></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;">This is a simple test Note to test the process of:<div><ul><li>Export from EN as HTML</li><li>Import HTML file into Word</li></ul><div><br/></div></div></body></html>
  6. Hello all Evernote lovers, I am just curious if anyone would be interested in an offline application to export and backup all your notes from Evernote to HTML/PDF. No monthly fee, no complex process, no need to share your password with anyone. Just a simple application to export your data in one click. I wrote a very simple tool for my personal needs and I will be happy to share a first beta version and add a few features if needed. Pleae let me know if you are interested Cheers, Jerome
  7. Hi, Evernote has recently been updated to remove paragraph formatting styles. I was using this feature a lot and it made my notes visually meaningful very quickly. It was rather inconsistent between platforms, I agree, but still, at least it was practical. Now, to accomplish the same thing, I need to select the text I want formatted, select a font, select a size, select a style (italicized, bold or underlined) and hope I'll remember it on the next heading. I hate that! It slows me down and takes me away from writing the note to formatting it. So I've turned to the next best thing: markdown. Markdown is actually very good in helping format my thoughts while I'm writing them, which is the whole point. Now the problem is, Evernote doesn't render markdown, so I need to take my note to a third party app to convert it, and then paste it where I need to use it (like back in Evernote!). Very dumb process. I think I'm not the only one missing paragraph formatting styles and/or markdown support, here. I saw other threads talking about alternative (and sometimes complicated) work-around to this issue. I just don't see why this could be so hard to integrate. Thanks for listening. François
  8. An advanced option that might allow for a note to be right-clicked and have the option to "Edit HTML" of that particular note. I know and have done my own searching to edit some notes where occasionally some code made it over to the note and throws off how things appear, but it would be a welcome option to quickly edit some of the HTML in a note if so desired.
  9. I have exported several notes that contain text and pictures to HTML format so I could easily share them with non Evernote users on a network drive or via email. When I open the files, I see all of the pictures. However, when another user opens the file, they get all of the text, but none of the pictures, just a small icon depicting the place for the pictures. How do I fix this?
  10. I have premium, and have not done a personal local backup of any of my files. Just to Try, I exported three files as html, then tried to open them. The notes opened but without being able to edit, the link was not able to be viewed at all. I do not want to save the files as evernote files, but want to be able to pass them to another person who does not have evernote and uses onedrive (yuck!). What's the solution? Any assistance will be very appreciated! Thanks!
  11. I am not sure where this question fits, so I am happy to be guided, or pointed at the right place within the forum. I use Evernote relentlessly for productivity. It would be nice to think "Getting Things Done on Steroids". I keep notes for every action. I regular make lists of notes, and lists of lists etc... for which Evernote is a perfect tool. Because of the way I work, maintaining an overview, and summarising my position is useful. Making a dashboard report out of the various Evernote parameters would be ideal. i.e. How many Notes are there in Notebook_A, how many notes are there tagged with both #TagA and #TagB. Therefore my question is as follows. Is there a way to access these parameters from any useful reporting front-end. This could be either Excel, Access, from within Wordpress, perhaps with shortcodes, or even straight HTML? Has anyone come across, or built any simple reporting application which uses Evernote Parameters to generate summary output that can then be manipulated? Many thanks, Karl.
  12. Hi All, I have searched the forum but didn't find an answer yet. I want to export an evernote note via HTML on Android device. I want to parse the exported content in my app and provide additional functionality above it. Technically it can be done by copying HTML content into clipboard or sending a custom intent. Any resources/tips in this direction would be helpful.
  13. Is there any chance of markdown support as defined here http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax It would add a lot of value to the export html feature. I would also like to be able to directly publish into wordpress. regards Sailesh
  14. Howdy, I am new to Evernote and have found it really useful, particularly for things like keeping web clippings handy while putting together a new computer. There is one bit of functionality that I haven't yet quite figured out. I can't figure out how to manually add links. I can paste in the URL it will make a clickable link that will open that web page, but I cannot find a way to create an HTML style link. What I get is links that look like "http://discussion.evernote.com/" rather than what I want which is a link that looks like "Evernote Forum" and goes to that URL. I have used the web clipper stuff to paste in a few links but when I try to add to the list I am having some trouble. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  15. It is my first time to post a question here. I have been using evernote for about six months and really love it. Today when I tried to import some html files to EN, I encoutered this strange problem: It seems that EN does not work with earlier version of html file. I have these HTML files from my Windows Live Messenger Chat Log long while ago. They can be opened with any browser without problems. However, when I put them in the import folder of EN, their contents show up a blank in EN. Please check a sample HTML file in the attachment. I tried the most recently saved HTM files however, they work with the import folder just fine, which leads to my speculation that there is something to do with the older version of html file or there are something specific about html from MSN Chat Log, but how do I make them work? Thanks in advance! DS hgquan@hotmail.com.html
  16. while composing a brief postach.io post on my iPad this evening using markdown, I noticed that a URL will always be auto-detected. This even occurs when the note is simplified or converted to plain text. The issue is that when using markdown, the detected URL messes with the rendering and breaks the link. This means that if you wanted to do this: [evernote's official website](http://evernote.com)the desired HTML output sent to Postach.io would be: <a href="http://evernote.com">Evernote's official website</a>Instead, since evernote auto-detects the URL on iOS, the markdown translation doesn't work and the link is broken, meaning you are unable to use markdown to create linked text. Now I just realized you MAY get away with using HTML directly, but I haven't tried using hTML containing an autodeteced URL. Does anyone know how to get around this? Anyone know how to de-link the URL on iOS? Any markdown or HTML workarounds?
  17. Hey, Long story short, I exported by whole Evernote library as HTML files a few months ago (I know, should have used ENEX). Most of my notes had attachments, so I also have corresponding .resources folders along with the HTML files. Is there an easy way to import all of those back into Evernote, along with the attachments? Currently, I have to drag HTML files one-by-one, open the note, drag the contents of the .resources folder to the note, and rince&repeat. As my folder contains many hundreds of notes, this would literally take me days. Anyone know of any AppleScripts or web services that could help?
  18. I would love to be able to add embed code for items like Youtube videos, Google Maps, Tweets, etc. This would allow me to create much richer pages, keeping the experience in context vs. having to link people out to multiple web sites.
  19. Hello.. Is there any function either using the application (Windows or Mac) or the mobile apps, that allows you to remove the html formatting from a web clip? There are times that I have a site or article clip and there are some items I can't remove whether it is a bullet or ordered list. I can't select the last one to remove it from the clipped article. Was wondering if there is a way to see the HTML or remove it all together. Thanks I have attached two screen shots of items I can't get rid of now matter how I select them or try and delete them.
  20. Is there a way for me to show the "invisibles" or the "document source" while I am editing the body of a note? Given that some notes may have some incumbent formatting (imported from OneNote, copied in from an HTML doc, etc) it is not clear what the document formatting for a particular line, character space, etc is -- I would love to be able to see, control, and troubleshoot why a section of content is not formatting properly. I have tried to use the "SIMPLIFY FORMATTING" but for several cases, it did not work. EG: take a note that exists in EN that has formatted HTML on it. Try to paste in some text (flattened in TEXTEDIT or TEXTWRANGLER) at the top of the note and I would expect that "plain text" would flow across the width of the open window. It does not. it appears to flow within a cell of a table that is about 100px wide. It's like there is a hidden table there. Now, I can scroll to the bottom of the same doc, paste in the same text, and it will flow as expected across the whole screen. Copy and paste that text to the top of the screen again gives the constrained column effect. So, If I was in MSWD, TEXTWRANGLER, BBEDIT, etc -- I can see the "hidden" characters. If I was in a browser, I could select "show source" and get the insight on what coding was behind the scenes so that I could see where certain formatting was happening. Is this possible in the text editor section of EN (mac)? TIA .. Giant Mike
  21. Hi guys and Evernote Developers, I am a proud user of Evernote for its ease of use and its many practicalities. I have also tried many (and most) other outliner programs on mac, windows and web platforms to see how Evernote matches up and how it could be improved. While Evernote still comes out on top, I find it hard for it to compete with web programs in the area of data collection. I also find it lacking in some areas where it could be drawing new users. This is why I propose that Evernote take the transition into a program which lets users create and own their own personal internets. I say this as some programs like voodoo pad which I admire, let the user create their own personal wikis with automated creation of links as you type to pages with that name. I think this should be implemented into Evernote as a cool way to structure and organise your notes, but it could go further. Evernote could be the first outliner program to fully support the creation and modification of web pages internally. That is, full support of javascript, flash and all the other things that make the web work so that when an article is clipped from the internet, it works exactly the same in Evernote (some features to block the ads would be good though). I have heard users ask this before, so why not go all the way. Evernote should not only be able to run pages natively, but browse the web as well. This would be extremely useful for data collection if you could have the internet and the outliner in the same window! Also, to go with this would have to be a large search bar up the top (of course), bookmarks (of web pages and notes), a startup page (how about the new Evernote pin-up board acting also as a web quick start page) and the ability to assign a note or web page to be your startup page, viewing history and if possible extensions or the ability to use chrome extensions of something. Also, for the developers, some tools to modify the scripts on the page (including note xml) would be useful, like the tools bar and editor at the bottom of the chrome and safari web browsers. All these features can be implemented by using code from the open source Chromium browser. To appeal to the web developers, it would be great also if Evernote was a bit more like Coda - a great and very simple web coding program. Note XML and page HTML could be opened up in a page like this in a new tab if people choose, from a button in the developer tools at the bottom. Adding the variety of different languages which Coda supports could be left to 3rd party developers. I also love the buttons at the top to switch between modes. In Evernote it could be web page, source code, outliner, markup. About the last one - markup. This is something which I think Evernote lacks as a quick note tool. Some of the tools from Skitch should be implemented right into Evernote as well as more ability to manipulate images like resize them. Some simple mind mapping tools would also be very good. A feature which has been asked for by many users before is tabs. This would become a must in a web and wiki program. My suggestion is using Opera style tabs which enable the sorting of tabs into groups which stack on top of each other then expand sideways when clicked. This could be done automatically in groups accordion to the notebooks that notes are sorted in and the web pages just as normal tabs (people can sort these into groups themselves as they browse). This image also demonstrates Opera's quick look feature. I also like that feature in IE which lets you see a layout of all your open tabs in one window (but I won't open that can of worms) One final, final feature which I suggest would be useful (even though i'm sure there are countless others) is the ability to grab a tab or page and drag it to a section on the screen to divide the page into two like your can do on the desktop on a windows computer. This would just make comparing, referring to and collecting data from things a lot simpler even on windows than resizing the whole screen. I know the was a lot to take in, and I congratulate anyone who even read it all, but that is the way I think Evernote should progress in the future. You may have a conflicting vision or an idea to improve this one. If so, I would very much like to hear it.
  22. Is there a way to store html pages in Evernote? We'd like to collaborate on HTML documents and be able to view both the HTML and Preview Pages as they would be viewed in the browser. i.e. code view and browser view. If not, that would be really nice...
  23. I tries to create a html document using applescript that uses the <figure> tag, but evernote seems to ignore it. It appears the same thing happens when I copy-paste a webpage with this tag. If this is true, is it by design or a bug? If bug will it be fixed? Thanks for a great product!
  24. In my daily business, I am always tinkering with my websites or have ideas to keep track of. I have a "Techie Stuff" where I keep all those random clips. Whether its code or oher techie articles I find I need to reference later. Do you all use Evernote this way? What's your idea?
