I recently was able to get a decent scanner (snapscan s3100i) however for most of the 2nd half of 2013 I have had to use a Kaiser Baas KBA3034 Scanner. Although not new to evernote, I only really started using it seriously this year for business. I was disappointed to find that scanning with the kaiser baas scanner to PDF and importing to evernote resulted in notes that were unable to be searched on - even though I have a premium membership. If you are using this KB scanner and want to import into evernote, use JPG format on about 300dpi or a little lower. when imported into evernote scanned jpg files are able to be searched on. I

I owned the scanner for a week and I'm, so far, shocked by the dismal experience with my P-215. The software for Mac is a joke, shows all the telltale signs of "aftethought development" and is very buggy. I haven't been able, so far, to make the Evernote integration work properly and Canon's support website is itself a joke. I also read that the scanner should be able to work with only one cable when using USB 3, but it's not the case with my MacBook Pro Retina. I tried to register my product and the form asks if I have a "token ring" network. They obviously care about their customers and put a great deal of effort in keeping that thing up to date... Summary, you're better off with the Fujitsu ScanSnap or whatever else.
