  1. What is the best product that works with evernote for handwriting to text recognition? Is Penultimate capable of this?
  2. Fellow Users: I'm having an issue with OCR searches and JPEGS any day after the first day. Initially after I've uploaded a new note with a JPEG I can successfully search the JPEGs for words (I'm searching pictures of handwritten notes from a notebook). The weird thing is that I can successfully search for a word (for example "call") directly after I upload the note and JPEG and come back the next day and search for the same word and I get nothing. Any suggestions? My environment: I am not a premium user. My devices: A windows 8 laptop and a iPhone 5s / an IOS device. Both are running the latest software as of 8-13-14. My process: I take a picture of my handwritten note with my iPhone camera, I crop the picture as needed, I rotate if needed, and save the image. I then use my iPhone to open a new note, I title it, and I choose the picture with my notes. I like using the camera for taking the picture better because I'm trying to capture handwritten business notes from a notebook and with the standard IOS camera I can crop out anything on the sides that I don't want to include. Again, any suggestions are appreciated.
  3. Hi. I am about to buy a new iPad Air and want to set up a system where I can take handwritten notes in meetings and: 1. have them exported to Evernote 2. allow me to search through those notes from within Evernote. I'm looking at Penultimate mainly, but have a question about syncing. I have seen something in the forums about problems with automatic syncing, but the threads were fairly old. Here's the issue - I want to take the handwritten notes in an iPad app while I'm not connected to wifi - but then later in the day (when I am connected to wifi) sync those notes to Evernote. And then have them be searchable in Evernote. Is this a problem with Penultimate. I saw an earlier thread that was complaining about problems with automatic syncing when there was no wifi available - is this still a problem? And if so, is there a better handwriting app that would allow me to do what I want? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. I really appreciate it. Frank
  4. I'm looking for an iPhone app that will allow me to hand-write notes and automatically sync them to Evernote in the background -- basically, I want Penultimate for iPhone. Has anyone found a good solution for this? Thanks.
  5. Hello, I have a problem. I love the new look of Evernote that came with the latest Android update, but I've been experiencing a problem with taking handwriting notes ever since the update. What happens is that I am in the middle of taking handwiriting notes, and since the instructor is saying things i don't need to note, I leave the tablet alone for a bit. The screen soon locks. When I try to unlock it, Evernote app is frozen most of the time. Then I have to shut down the app and reopen it, and when I reopen it none of my handwritten notes are saved and I have to start all over again. The app freezes in a similar manner when I switch to a different app for a few seconds. In both situations, it seems to be a hit or miss: most of the time the app freezes, but sometimes nothing happens. I'm currently using a different note-taking app because of this very issue, but if it becomes resolved (maybe with another update), then I will return to using Evernote. Can the community provide any help for me, and can the developers PLEASE address this problem? I'm using a Galaxy Note 8.0 with S Pen running Android Version 4.4.2 KitKat. Thanks.
  6. What system have you found works for you to save handwritten notes in Evernote?
  7. I'm trying to get in the habit of using the new handwritten notes feature. I have a Galaxy Note 2, with the S-pen, and it mostly works well. The problem, though, is that doesn't seem to save the notes automatically. After I've added 5 or so pages of handwritten notes, my phone starts to slow down and eventually Evernote crashes. At that point, I realize that none of those notes have saved... Thus far, the only way I can figure out how to save is to press the back arrow to get out of the handwritting, then again to exit the note, at which point it will save. Is there any way I can just quickly save the note as I add another page? Anything I can do to stop this crashing problem in the first place?
  8. Hi Everyone! Is there anyone that have figured out a way to make hand written to do's and make them searchable in Evernote? I woud like to be able to write to do's in my normal notebook (mixed with other notes) and highlight them with a tag, symbol etc. and after each meeting, I will scan the page, and Evernote should then gather all to do's from different pages and note books into one Evernote page with to do's only. That would for me be the function that got me to really use Evernote. If this is not possible to do, I am very surprised. Doesn't more people want this function? Must be easy to make. Thanks! Best regards, Johan
  9. I recently downloaded Notability from AppStore, and I noticed that it's a very powerful tool for note-taking. I wonder, could it be possible to integrate the handwriting Penultimate feature in order to get a fully powered note-taking Evernote app? Typing is so simple, but, for example, I'd usually need to take sketches or handwritten notes because I'm in a hurry.
  10. I love the new handwriting feature on android, but it doesn't seem to be available for the Kindle Fire yet. Is there a beta I can side load or will it be released to the Amazon app store soon? I really would like to have this feature for class. Thanks!
  11. Is there any way to cut handwriting or a hand drawn diagram from one page and copy it to another handwriting page. Also is there any way to change the size of a handwriting page to allow me to move stuff down and insert an extra paragraph.
  12. Hey all, I use Evernote on a Galaxy Tab 10.1. Everything works very well, except the in app handwriting. My handwriting is (in EN) is jerky and harder to read than on paper. Is it the old tablet? me? the new app? Any tips or help making the in app writing useful would be very appreciated.
  13. Hi all, since the capabilites of tablets to take handwritten notes seem to be evolved far enough to be really usable, I decided to give it a try. I'd like to switch from my good old paper-notebook to a tablet and take handwritten notes on it. Notes are usually text but can include some simple sketches. Evernote seem to be the best and most commonly used software out there and has some quite nice features. No I am wondering what the hardware of choice would be. I've heard the galaxy note 10.1 is the best one for handwritten notes, but seems like the integration with evernote is not the best. So are there any suggestions? upskuhr
  14. Hi to all, I'm brand new to Evernote. I love it, but I can't get my handwritten notes recognised. I'm using Windows 7 on a laptop and taking jpegs with my digital camera. At first I thought it was just my illegible scrawl, but I just tried using the attached file (I've made it smaller for this post) and still nothing. I've tried searching the knowledge base, forums and google but haven't found anything, apologies if this is already covered somewhere. Thanks in advance!
  15. I am trying to use the newly released handwriting option on my Nexus 7(2013 version). I recently updated the application but did not see the handwriting tool. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app about 3 times and still have not been able to use the handwriting option at all. Anyone else having problems with this? Could it be because I don't haze the current version? Any help would be appreciated. (Also I have sent a troubleshooting message to Evernote but I'm not sure about when they will reply)
  16. http://blog.evernote.com/blog/2014/03/05/handwriting-arrives-evernote-android/ (emphasis mine) Maybe I missed something but can you actually take handwritten notes while recording audio notes at the same time? How? I am able to record audio but then I have to back out of that while drawing the diagrams/charts in lecture. I am also able to type notes on my galaxy note while audio is recording, but that doesn't help with the figures. It wastes time to have to carry a separate notebook just to copy the figures down, and then later go back and scan them into the note. Handwriting would be useful if I could actually record the professor's lecture while drawing the diagrams into the note. If I have to pause/stop the audio recording while drawing - that sort of defeats the purpose. A lot of the time the diagram is being changed as he draws and having his explanation recording simultaneously with my copying the diagrams down is really important to understanding the material. If I have to pause/stop audio, in order to copy the figures, I've missed the explanations, which bring sense to the figures. And with how fast he talks + erases/redraws, there's no way to copy both the figures & the explanation so audio recording is very important.
  17. Handwriting is a great feature to add on Android version, but why not let it be annotated too? The windows version let's user annotate handwriting notes made on Android but not in Android itself Screenshot: annotate option on a handwriting note (in Windows)
  18. I wonder if a new version of Evernote with handwriting feature will be available on iPhone as it was in Android
  19. I love Evernote. I use it both professionally and personally - primarily typing in notes. Obviously, I often have times where I need to draw a chart, idea or illustration. Penultimate does that well (especially with the new Jot pen). But it's not integrated - it's only connected. I have to open another app. And my drawing is saved to a Penultimate folder in Evernote... separate from the typed notes and topics I want that drawing to live with. I am suggesting that Evernote leverage the Penultimate experience directly INSIDE Evernote. Integrate it fully. Other apps like notebook and notesuite do this. If Evernote doesn't then I have zero incentive to use Penultimate if it's simply "connected" - I could use Bamboo or other popular drawing apps which also connect to Evernote. I am simply asking that when we take notes we have the ability to both type AND draw/handwrite in the SAME NOTE. Evernote has great apps - Stitch, Evernote and Penultimate but your biggest mistake is they are all very separate. If you want to keep them separate for focused users with focused needs... that's great! Keep them separate... but integrate that into Evernote too. I would pay for it... not suggesting it has to be free. Thoughts?
  20. I've started using Penultimate in an effort to go paperless with my writing and blogging. What I do is have a Penultimate/Evernote window open on one side of the screen and a Word document or blog post on the other side so I can easily copy down what I've written. I have a giant notebook filled with writing that I would like to easily copy over. What's the best way, if there is one, I can scan the notebook and have it appear in Evernote in one note so I can easily copy what I've written into a computer file?
  21. I can't wait to get my hands on the Adonit Jot Script stylus for Penultimate. Being a student, there's nothing cooler than being able to use my iPad for my notes and diagrams. However I notice Evernote doesn't support stylus input on iOS and Penultimate doesn't seem to recognize a bluetooth keyboard. Is there any way to incorporate drawings into my typed up notes while I'm in class? A small diagram might be required every now and then in the middle of my notes so it would be great to incorporate both for my lectures, Any thoughts or suggestions? Does anyone else feel like an integration feature is necessary? -Athan
  22. I am delighted by the acquisition of Penultimate, but it raises a concern that has been lingering for a while. Evernote can read my handwritten note. Bravo! I handwritten an email address and want to send an email to that address. I will have toread the note and type the address into my email application. Boo! It is crucial that handwritten content become content that I can se not just read. Can you let us know where this fits in the roadmap?
  23. Hello there! I just got my first EN premium subscription and I am on the one hand very satisfied with the document seach, but on the other hand some things don't work out the way I imagined they would. 1. Is there any guide to handwritten notes, like "how to write" blockletters for instance to help the servers to identify your handwriting? For instance a normal "i" is not recognized and I don't know why. Is there a guide on how to write so that chances are higher your hand written notes are searchable? 2. For taking photos of receipts for instance: Is it better to use the Evernote iOS app (camera function within the app) or a third party app like a scanner app which saves the receips as pdf's and sends them to EN? When I try to search for receipts some words found in photos taken with the Evernote iOS app are marked in yellow, but the same receipt scanned with a scanner app and saved as a pdf is not marked and doesn't always show up in search. And again I have no idea why!? --- I hope you understand what my problems are? Anyway take care and all the best! Oh and thanks for any help
  24. I have been using Evernote for a year now, since moving over with my Live Scribe Sky Pen. The OCR in evernote is good for searching handwritten notes, but when am I going to be able to export those notes as text! This was something was was in LiveScribe thru the MyScript plug-in. When Can I get that done in Evernote! Also, when can I export my notes as PDF's or just images to be processed further. HTML export is not what I'm looking for! I'm pulling my hair out on process workflow here since moving into the Evernote Ecosystem. Any help is appreciated!
  25. Hi everybody, I was not able to find a solution, that is why I am trying my luck here. I want to use handwriting notes, but it annoys me that Evernote always smooths, straighten my handwriting (see attached screenshot). With this behaviour Evernote is useless for me. I hope you can give some advice how to turn it off. I am using Evernote on a Thinkpad X230 Tablet (Win 8 x64) with a stylus pen. Best regards
