  1. Hey, this is how I am thinking to upload my notes into EverNote and wanted to hear your opinion if this is a good way or not? Writing Note in PDF -> Encrypting the PDF's using its own password option -> Archiving the PDF using 7-Zip and encrypting it using 7-Zip's 256 AES password. So, the PDF needs the password to open and to get the pdf, one has to need the password of the RAR file too. So, is this good? And is 7-Zip good for encryption? Many say 7-Zip is one of the best. Waiting for your opinion guys. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hey all, EverNote gives us the ability to encrypt small notes but I want the ability to encrypt all the texts of long notes too to have peace of mind. I have small as well as long notes and I can only see the encryption option on small notes. On long notes, the encryption option is greyed out. I think we would all love to have the long notes encryption feature to have peace of mind and privacy. We should be able to encrypt each and every single text in any note whether small or big. I already requested here - https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/114224-long-notes-all-text-encryption-feature/ What do you all think?
  3. Is it possible to lose a Note by mis typing the pass phrase? I've got a Note encrypted with a lot of numbers, addresses and so forth. Usually when I open it I am prompted to enter a passphrase with a reminder hint. Due to clumsiness I mistyped the passphrase. It seems to have overwritten the Note with the mistyped characters. Is it possible to get the original Note restored? What is the procedure for reverting to a Note of say two days ago?
  4. As an Evernote user who does sometimes store sensitive information in Evernote (by encrypting specific text), I would like a response from Evernote regarding this. A high profile investor in the cryptocurrency space was recently hacked ($2M USD worth). He mentioned that he did store his private keys in Evernote - but - that this information was encrypted. Based on his story, he claims that somehow someone with access to his email account was somehow able to reset his Evernote password (based on my understanding) and somehow gain access to his encrypted notes too: " I thought I was safe storing my private keys on Evernote because I encrypted them but clearly that didn’t help. I did have 2FA on my Gmail with the authenticator app but that didn’t help because my recovery email address was my college email and there is no 2FA on that. Once the hackers had access to my Gmail, they basically had access to everything" http://ianbalina.com/ian-balina-hacked-2-million-ama-live-stream-w-notes-april-24th-2018/ What I'm not clear on - is even if someone resets your Evernote password and accesses your notes, this shouldn't give them access to any encrypted information, because that is encrypted separately and as far as I know, even Evernote should not have the ability to even know your encryption password. Am I correct, or does Evernote's systems store your encrypted password somehow? I think this is important for everyone to know. If the above person's story is inaccurate then it would be good for Evernote to confirm this, as otherwise, Evernote security looks quite bad here if something like this could really happen.
  5. I've just updated to release 6.11.2.7027 and now can't access any of my encrypted notes.
  6. Dear Community I can't see the encryption option anymore - it's disappeared from the drop-down menu when I right-click on the Internet-based interface and also disappeared from the interface on my iPhone. Also in both interfaces, I can't any more previously encrypted text. Is it a temporary bug or a permanent loss of functionality? Thanks in advance for your assistance!
  7. It's becoming increasingly important to have full encryption support in Evernote. Evernote will only encrypt text, not notes with images. Is there any ETA on this feature, as I am working more and more outside Evernote due to this limitation? There are workarounds like saferoom/axcrpt and other apps to encrypt a file, copy the encrypted text inside Evernote, and do the reverse to see the notes, but that is very hard and then there's no reason to use Evernote and I might as well store it as a file on a service which is easy access from mobile device. Services like pCloud allow zero-knowledge encryption which works very well, so I'm moving more and more of my Evernotes to files in pCloud, but pCloud doesn't really have a note-based UX. I may be somewhat on the leading edge here, but if I'm moving things off Evernote for better security, others are likely doing the same (or should be will all the data breaching happening today). Evernote seems to be falling behind here in functionality that seemingly isn't that hard to implement. Evernote could require the entire note to be encrypted when there are images which is very acceptable to me and that may make it easier for Evernote to implement it in a first release, Thanks for your consideration. I really like Evernote and I don't want to be slowly moving away for better security. Thanks, Dave
  8. Hi, I converted all my documents to electronic copies a couple of years ago, I am now looking at using Ever Note to store my documents mainly to give me a better way to search documents, but have a couple of concerns and am after some thoughts. 1. As EN doesn't offer End to End encryption I am looking at Encrypting the pdf's... and attaching them in EN (I know I wont be able to search on the contents but if I TAG well this should resolve the mostly), has anyone else used this approach and how well does it work not just on desktop but on web, mobile... 2. Corruption I have read some articles on the web of people suffering from Notes corrupting does this still happen is there a known trigger (I will be backing up my EN data folder but my backup's will only be kept for 90 days) Thanks
  9. I have a couple of questions regarding the Encrypted notes. Would greatly appreciate if anyone has the solution for these 2 issues: 1- I am wondering if there is a way to decrypt an encrypted note, for which you've lost/forgotten the password for it? 2-I've noticed that whenever I am working inside an encrypted note, I can not make use of the Numbered List (1,2,3,...), or the bullet points. Please look at the attached diagram below to better understand what I am referring to. I have made 2 red boxes around the features that greys out on encrypted notes. Is there any way I can have those useful functions inside an encrypted note? Thanks in advance for taking the time and your insights!
  10. Hi, There's a small flaw in the encryption set up: if someone ever got into your account, he/she could erase the entirety of your encrypted information with one click (I just did it accidentally). If the content is encrypted, the contents should not be able to be erased without the password. Thanks.
  11. I know the dB on client side is not encrypted, which I don't care about. Is the dB content encrypted via transmission and on server (cloud)? I'm asking because the recent updates for the Windows client has some quite serious encryption issues, losing notes, reproducing content within encrypted notes and I have had to de-crypt them for fear that feature is just not stable for now. I have always used this feature on some notes. I understand it is just an extra layer of protection and that the encryption in transmission and on server is actually good enough for protection.
  12. Just in the last few days, it seems I've lost the ability to encrypt text that has a horizontal line, a numbered list, or check boxes (from the tools menu) in it. I can create a new note, add a line of text, and encrypt without issue. If I add a horizontal line, numbered list, or check boxes, I can no longer encrypt the text. This means I have a bunch of important notes that I'm no longer able to re-encrypt without loosing all the helpful and necessary formatting! Any ideas on how to fix this? Evernote 6.11 (454876 App Store) MacOS 10.12.4
  13. How do I remove encryption? I don't want to have to enter my password each time. I read to right click and that would be an option, but when I right click I'm just getting browser commands.
  14. Hello... So I just transferred a ton of stuff over from OneNote, as I'm in the process of converting to Evernote. I created a section for some fairly sensitive financial information, so I highlighted it all and encrypted with a passcode. After that, the cute little padlock thing appears. I basically ended up backspacing over it and now I it's gone.... pretty cool implementation of security if I don't have to enter the passcode to even delete the notes? NOT Is there anyway I can get this back. I don't feel that I should have to pay for a month or so of Premium to get my stuff back. I already deleted it from OneNote as well, so this really sucks. Thanks
  15. I'd like to be able to encrypt an entire note, as well as maintain the current capability to encrypt specific text within a note. In the way I'd like to use Evernote, I want to create a secure note into which I'll add related content. I'd like that entire note to be encrypted.
  16. I had the issue where I couldn't open an encrypted note on the Mac App (Version 6.10) and on the web, but only in the iPhone app. I upgraded to 6.11 Beta for Mac and it solved the issue but I still cannot decrypt the note on the web. I have 2 other encrypted notes and I can decrypt them on all devices, it only affects 1 note. Thanks for any support on this!
  17. Hi all, Our development team is aware of an issue where users report that they get a password incorrect error on Mac client or are unable to decrypt but no error message or password hint appears. This issue has been resolved in the next update to Evernote for Mac, version 6.11. If you wish to update to get the fix immediately, you can install the beta version using these steps: Go to Evernote > Preferences > Software Update and check the box next to "Update to beta versions when available". Once you have updated, if you no longer want to continue on the beta track, go back and uncheck the box next to "Update to beta versions when available". 6.11 Beta 1 can also be found here: Let me know if y'all have any questions!
  18. I would like to store some secure documents within Evernote, however Evernote for years has lacked full encryption on notes and has constantly ignored the request from many to fully encrypt our data. This should be core to the Evernote service offering. Users should have the ability to control their own encryption keys as well.
  19. Given the recent news surrounding EN's privacy policy changes (although they have dialed them back since), I have been looking in to using encryption within my notes for the first time. Personally, I don't keep much confidential information in EN, but I do use it as a daily journal, so I would prefer to have that information private. My question is in regards to the encryption of text within a note. When I choose to encrypt a note, it prompts me for a password. So for note 1, I enter an encryption password. Now, when I go to encrypt text in note 2, I can enter the same password as note 1, or I can enter a new password for note 2 that is different than note 1 (this is not recommended by EN). My question: Is there a limit to how many unique encryption passwords I am allowed to have? Could I conceivably use a different encryption password for every note? All 100k of them that I am allowed as a user? Or will I eventually run in to trouble somewhere with this? Thanks in advance for your help.
  20. I don't understand, how can Backblaze encrypt all your data (terabytes of it), while charging $50/yr. But Evernote, which charges about the same and only stores on average 1/1000 of the data can't encrypt all the data?? If it's an issue of size of the notes(and opening them frequently), there should be some design plan here that allows text-only notes to be encyrpted and searchable. Backblaze takes about a minute to open 4tb of data, but text-only files are extremely small in size, and should be able to be searched quickly. Or at the very least, let us make certain notes encrypted (by say right clicking on the note, and clicking encrypt). We could do these for some text-notes which we feel are private. It REALLY bothers me that Evernote doesn't take this more seriously. This is one of the most important things I'd want if not the most important.
  21. Just wondering....... https://turtlapp.com/ seems to encrypt your entire note, and even better, they can't even see the contents......
  22. In Firefox (latest version) on both Mac and Windows computers, encrypted text in notes (when opened/un-encrypted), is uneditable (not even selecteable). It is all highlighted light green if you try to select anything in it (e.g., for copy and paste) or when you try to edit it. It almost seems to be treated like an image in that if you click and hold on any part of the encrypted text, all of it is selected and able to be drug around. Please seek a solution.
  23. Evernote Desktop has a great feature: encrypt text a part of text by password. When setting it, user is told that if he losts password, the text is unrecoverable. But! When I encrypted text and tried to open it as Shared note (anonymous access through web-browser) the text is.. Visible! Doesn't seem to be unrecoverable The same thing if I open the note in web-app or android app. Is it a proper behaviour? In my opinion, this part of text must be hidden from anywhere. Let it be recoverable only using desktop apps (by the way, why not mobile one?), but in any other cases with no possibility to enter password, it must be hidden!
  24. How secure are the notes stored in Evernote? Is there a way to make sure the files stored in the Evernote directory structure on the local hard drive are encrypted? If I store company documents, including peoples SSNs, and personally identifiable information, how secure are they? When a notebook is shared with another Evernote user, does the data pass back and forth as SSH? Thanks
  25. I use Evernote in in order of preference on the following devices: 1. iPhone (iOS app) 2. Work PC (Evernote Web) 3. iPad (iOS app) 4. MacBook Pro (MAC OS app) 5. iMac (MAC OS app) I am unable to encrypt text in my iPhone (let alone the other encryption abilities that are requested in other posts) so if I wish to change a login and encrypt that within a note, i have to enter it and leave it unencrypted until I return to the desktop version Why is this still a problem? Every feature available on the Web or desk top version should be available in the mobile version. Or am I missing something?
