  1. Whats about providing an API, instead of trying to implement only a part of great ideas from your customers. So we can build our own features. Because I think, the community has great ideas, but EN is unable to serve them all. An API would be the best compromiss for creating cool things as (only a glimse from my mind): Inline Tags (similar to Google Keep) Inline Anchors / in connection with an Table of Content "real" tables // the current implementation is really buggy Tables with fixed header / footer Tables with summary (calculating Columns) Tables with column sort Tabled with column filter "real" formatting // the the ideas from Confluence as real headlines Additional meta information to an note like a date range special note types Or mark a note as template Excerpts of a note (using the same Template everywhere and get all updates Macros at all / Maybe a Macro Market? An better search UI (at least under Windows / Android) - bec. the current works, but you need to remember all search terms instead of clicking them together Outlining (collapsable list of information) Checkboxes which inherite the state from child checkboxes Different color for Evernote links in comparison to real links (I know you get green links if you drag a note to another, but this does not work with STRG-K Speaking about links - why should we use 3! different shortcuts to edit a link? Why not only STRG+K as all other Win or Web-Apps work Support for Markdown Allow inline HTML Edititing (for advanced users) Allow Inline Videos - An Note is just an HTML - why not support embedded Objects? Preview of attached Office Documents / Google Documents - there are a plenty of Viewers available Finding attachements based on the extension (this is already implemented, but in a real limited way - so I need to assign extra tags to find my attachements Support of a global CSS to style your notes ....and many many more - thats just a few of my ideas ... but think about the power of the community....! Don't get me wrong: I really love Evernote and I'm a Premium user since years. But I can't see any development to make things really usefull. Yes: EN 6.* for windows was a huge leap in the right direction, but there are sooo many missing features regarding to the editor - I can referate hours about the pros and cons of EN :-)
  2. The editor in the Windows client needs improvement in a number of areas, specifically, the copy-and-paste functionality with rich text and HTML formatted text. When copying text from Evernote into a MS Word document, formatting is usually way off; and, when copying text from a web page into Evernote, the formatting can be equally poor. Compare this to the seamless and typically excellent copy-and-paste to and from MS Word. For the amount of complaining people do about Word, they really got this and many other things right. There are a number of good to great editor components on the market (I'm a long time Windows and web developer) and they provide this functionality and more. Perhaps it is time to give up the in-house editor solution (if you are developing this functionality in-house).
  3. Hi. Does anyone else have this problem as well? I am not able to select text when in edit mode. When I do a double tap on a word, I can see that the word is highlighted for a split second and that the markers for the left and right edge of the selection are visible. But the selection and the markers go away instantly and so I am not able to copy/paste anything in the edtior. Maybe I am doing it wrong? I tried a lot. Tap, tap and hold, double tap, double tap and hold, triple dap and so forth. It's a pain to write some text (shopping lists, etc.) without copy/paste. The phone I am using is a Sony Xperia T with Android 4.1.2. Please help and many thanks in advance.
  4. I used to style text like gif1 shown below in Evernote v5 generation, with the help of AHK. In v6(in fact since v5.9.5.9380 with the improving of note editor), however, I tried, but still cannot make it work like before, like gif2 below show...It always add weird newline... Anyone can help me fix this? or have a better way to highlight and change color of text with one click? Here(L537~L557) is the source code. Really need help, headache for so long time. Thanks!!
  5. I would love to see a style feature that one could select the font, font size, color, and style (bold, italic..) and create these things that would be a default for their titles, topics, examples, articles, citations, definitions, relevant information, etc. People would be able to select it easily from a drop-down menu and the selected text would be of that style. Users would be able to create custom styles; Users would be able to apply the style to all notes using it or just the notes created after the changes happened. Why this should be implemented: Improves speed a lot for those who like to keep a pattern of colors and fonts for different things; Reduces rework if someone wants to change their default font, size, or anything for all their notes. Ex: I want the titles to be bold and to remove all uppercase from then, that would apply to all the notes with that style.
  6. Hey everyone, This is P.J. from the Product Team at Evernote. I wanted to take a moment to tell you about a project that we've been working on for quite a while. Though to date, we have introduced a relatively small number of new features to the editor, we've laid a foundation that will allow us to significantly improve note editing in Evernote. Years of writing the editors of our clients independently of one another has taken a toll on the the consistency and quality of Evernote’s editing experience. We recognize this and we’re fully committed to making it better. We’ve created a dedicated team focused on improving the note editor and we’re hoping you notice the difference. In the coming weeks and months, you’ll start to see the fruits of this labor appear in all of the things you do to create notes in Evernote—typing, bullets and lists, tables, images, copy and pasting are just a few of the things we’ll be working on to start. Bigger improvements will follow. For more on the thinking behind this project, check out this blog post. We can’t promise to get everything right the first time, but we can promise to listen to your feedback and work tirelessly to make every version of Evernote’s editor better than the last. If you have feedback on the editor, we’re here to listen. Feel free to comment on this thread or DM me. Thanks!
  7. Hello friends, I`m using Evernote Plus and got an issue within the last update. My editor fonts are fuzzy just as the screenshot shows. Windows 10 - AMD Ati Radeon 6200 (Video card - last drivers form AMD 15.12) Already tried the DPI fix in compatibility and also have a Dell notebook, with Windows 10 and the same version of Evernote, with no glitches. Thanks in advance
  8. I've read several related requests to fix the text editor in Evernote. Many ask for further details about what the problem is. I'm sure I'm not the only one to keep hitting these bugs. (1) Cutting and pasting lines: Type four lines of text in a new note (even just "a", "b", "c", "d"). If you select, say, line "b" by moving to the front of the line, hitting Shift+Down to select the whole line, Ctrl+X to cut, then move down to line "d" and Ctrl+V to paste you get a blank line inserted after it! So it somehow copied *2* linebreaks. Why? The only other way of selecting the whole of line "b" before cutting it is to hit Shift+End, but then when you cut you get a blank line left there and when you paste in front of line "d" you *don't* get a line break. Please fix this - it makes it much harder than it should be to rearrange lines. (2) Bullets: Create a note with two bulleted lists, separated by some text. Cut or copy an item from the middle of the top list, and paste it after the second list - you get a weird gap between the two. Why is that? So now paste it in the non-bulleted line before the second list - you get it separated from the second list by some non-bulleted text. That's OK, you think, I'll just delete that line in the middle, but again you get this weird gap between them and you have to concatenate two items and then hit enter to get a bullet in front of both again. (3) Check boxes: What's up with those? Half the time when adding more items to a list of checkboxes I either end up with two checkboxes before an item or none. Sometimes hitting enter after a checkboxed item creates a new line starting with a checkbox, but sometimes it doesn't - I haven't found out why, but it seems to happen when you come back to a previous list of checkboxes - if you enter a list all in one go it generally does what you'd expect. (4) Formatting and paste: A number of times I go to paste some text into a note and the format *should* be the same and everything should line up but it doesn't, and I end up with bullets with slightly different indentation, or slightly different bullet size (has the font gone wonky?). Could a developer at Evernote *please* just get assigned to fixing the bugs throughout the text editor (or could one of them show their altruism and moonlight/do a skunkworks project to fix the text editor for all of Evernote's thousands of users)?
  9. I just found this AlterNote Editor Chrome Extension, and it's a better WYSIWYG than the Evernote Web Editor at this time. And it's free. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/alternote-editor/hljkfahiahjhhpmpihngnommookkneji No idea if it's related to Alternote for Mac: http://alternoteapp.com/ Features I like: - does NOT need to be granted access to your Evernote account - as far as I can tell, all processing is done in your browser, without a third party server involved - fairly powerful text editing capabilities (WordPad like) - resize images (and even rotate) - can paste images from clipboard (but they will be lost if you edit the note in Evernote, so I insert images with the paperclip) - inserts file/image at the cursor (not at the end of the note) - view and change source code - handles tables decently well - highlight text - check-boxes and special characters - footnotes - keyboard shortcuts (no more clicking around to insert an attachment) - can change default font and font size - remove all text formatting - add-last-line keyboard shortcut (really useful in long notes) Problems: - you have to be a bit careful, as it's easy to create unwanted new notes or duplicates, especially if you use autosave (I just create new notes in Evernote Web and then edit them with AlterNote; I also have Clicking on AlterNote's toolbar icon when not on Evernote's webpage set to Open Search Page) - it doesn't save searches - you will lose images if you paste them from clipboard (more Evernote's fault, as it just removes them if you edit the note) - there seems to be just one guy developing it. Is it secure? Will development continue? Attached is a quick test, along with the result in Evernote Web:
  10. I am obsessed with the function "simplify formatting." However, after updating to 6.0.6, I don't know why it split each line by ":,)" automatically. Here is the link showing the example before and after simplifying formatting. https://www.evernote.com/l/ABFkYkmCwGRKS5Ew5r5GRLyB_Pu2NOJFLeQ I have known that, for solving the problem, I can paste it to text editor than paste it back to evernote. However, it is very inconvenient. And it happened since current update. Hope to receive any solution or good news.
  11. Evernote no longer hyperlinks URLs when entered in a note. Please fix Screencast: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6v2o34eel50mxk8/Evernote%20hyperlink%20bug.mov?dl=0 Version 6.0.3 (451151 Direct)

  13. Do You Find Evernote to be a Polished Writing Tool? Evernote CEO Phil Libin was quoted today at the annual Evernote Conference as saying the following. From Evernote Unveils Evernote Context by TechCrunch: I guess this really caught me by surprise since I've seen nothing but complaints about the Evernote text editor. And, the response has often been that if you want a writing tool, or a word processing tool, then go somewhere else. The Evernote Editor seems OK for most note taking, but it doesn't even offer the basics of what one would need for writing and formatting serious documents, articles, etc.. I certainly wouldn't call it "polished". Far from it. Seems like if “Evernote wants to be the best place for writing”, it has a long ways to go. What's your opinion of Evernote as a writing tool? Please indicate the EN Client you use. I use EN Mac.
  14. Hello there, IOS 8 Mail has a nifty feature, while you're editing (composing, replying) an email, you can swipe down from the top of the app and the composer gets minimized. I wonder if this is a simple thing to implement via the SDK, it's very useful and would be great to have on Evernote. http://ti.me/1wFKBUG -> video showing what I'm referring to.
  15. Windows provides a standard UI text service for editing text, please just use that instead of implementing your own. Let me give you an example: - Type a sentence. - Hit return - Type a space - Hold down ctrl and hit "delete" multiple times. In every other editor on Windows (Notepad, MS Word, Word Pad, PyCharm, etc etc etc), this deletes to the beginning of the line, then to the previous line, THEN the previous word. Evernote breaks this. Why would you guys do something completely different? Can't you just use the standard UI service?
  16. I know the features comparison between EN and OneNote came up in this forum multiple times. I couldn't help but going back to OneNote many times when it comes to plain note taking. More importantly, Microsoft improved the OneNote experience across devices tremendously in the last few months. I consider OneNote note taking experience superior to EN for many reasons. - I can click anywhere in the note and starts typing. This makes organizing the note easier. I can also move/place the block of texts easily. - Overall editor is very fluid and stable. Especially when you have lots of formatting (lists, tables, and other content) I was wondering if EN can give the feature of organizing the note by clicking anywhere in the editor.
  17. What does this mean? Or rather, how can this be? In the native Windows evernote, I create a plain text note with a few check boxes (or bullet points). But when I pull it up on my android phone, I get a message about unsupported formatting. I find it incredible that I can create a note in one evernote client that can't be read in another evernote client.
  18. Hi all I found a great mindmapping tool called freeplane [1] today. One of the features I like most is the ability to copy a whole branch to the clipboard, richly formatted with bullets and colors. This is excellent for me, since I mostly keep meeting minutes in mindmaps. Of course I downloaded it right away and installed it on my mac (working from home at the moment). Copying from the map and pasting into Evernote Mac works like a charm. I then decided to try the same on my company's windows XP machine (remote desktop), and the result is pretty disappointing. No colors, no font styles, no bullet points at all. All it does is indent with a tab, hurray :-( Sidenotes: - Yes, pasting into Outlook works perfectly, including formatting - Yes, pasting into Evernote Web works too, although no color and no font styles. But the bullet points are there, fair enough. - No, I did not choose "paste as plain text". I think I shared my thoughts about the evernote windows editor already. Now, fellow beta testers, could anyone try this with the latest beta? I fear that EN spent a lot of time polishing the GUI, rather than fixing these basics. I'm not up to speed with all the Win Beta threads, so if anyone volunteered to try this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! André [1] http://freeplane.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
  19. I've been using Evernote for some time now and I don't think I could imagine going without it. However there is a common complaint that I've noticed (and has in fact caused at least 2 people I know to have passed it by as a product), which is the note editor interface is exceptionally lacking. Could you please consider adding or improving at least the following features within the Mac note editor?: Either increase the miserly selection of available fonts from the font selection box, or use the standard OS X "Fonts" selection box commonly accessed by pressing the Apple-T shortcut combination. Allow user-defined explicit font sizes from the font size selection box. Provide a background colour selection button. Provide a superscript style button. Provide a subscript style button. Provide a strikethrough style button. Provide a pre-defined (preferably user editable) style selection box listing common styles such as "Heading 1, Heading 2... Heading 6, Normal, Quote, Code" etc. Provide a hyperlink button. TL;DR: Instead of forcing users to highlight text, right click on it, and then select "Font > Show Fonts" in order to use basic common style and formatting options, please add this functionality to the text style button bar at the top of the note editor.
  20. Dear All, the editor in the browser interface has a hyperlink facility (an icon showing chain links), and using that, I started putting together a note with links to sites of interest, intending to use this as a kind of private, "cloud based" bookmark collection. However, when I wanted to add another link using the Android Evernote app today I couldn't find anything equivalent to the link facility. I finally ended up putting the title and the URL into the note, and reworked that into the link I wanted when I got to my desktop (a few minutes before now). Can anyone direct me to the hyperlink facility in the Android app? (I noticed that Evernote made the URL string into a hyperlink, but that's not really useful if the URL is not descriptive of the content of the page I'd like to link to.) Best regards, Jan
  21. I would really love it if, when editing a note, you could select several lines of text and click a button to have checkboxes appear next to each line item. Similar to the check box feature that you have now, but a lot better because you could add the checkboxes all at once. Another way to solve this problem would be to bring back Strikethrough. I don't know why text editors don't have this feature anymore - it was really great. Thanks!
  22. I'm disappointed to see that the latest version of Evernote that was just released (4.5.3.6131) still does not reimplement the change font size keyboard shortcuts. The User Guide (Note Editor section) says that Ctrl+Shift+> and Ctrl+Shift+< increase and decrease the font size. It also lists Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] as alternative keyboard shortcuts. Unfortunately, neither set of shortcuts works. This is an issue I reported some months ago and was hoping would be fixed. Changing the font size is something I do all the time and it's tedious to constantly be switching from the keyboard to the mouse and back again. It would be great if we could get this simple feature reimplemented in the near future. Otherwise, thanks for a great product! David Salahi
  23. Hi there, I am new to this forum, so please be patient . I noticed a somewhat strange behaviour of the Evernote editor on my Galaxy SIII: If I open a new note from within the EN app, screen rotation works fine and I can enter text in either portrait or landscape mode.If I open a new note through the EN widget, I get portrait mode only, and screen rotation doesn't work.I tested this right after each other, so the device setting were the same (screen rotation on, smart rotation off). Did someone notice this before, is it intended to be like this? I'd like to open new notes by widget, and I prefer landscape for typing. This is the combination that does not work... Thanks for your comments!
  24. If you highlight text and attempt to scroll down in the note editor by dragging past the bottom of the page, the note scrolls up very very slowly. I would expect it to scroll about as fast as you would if you dragging down to select text in a Mail.app email, for instance. I'm using Evernote 5.0 for Mac, but I haven't noticed if this was an error previously. The only reference I found in the forums recently is a mention as being fixed in the Evernote 5.0 for Mac Public Beta 2 post so maybe this is a regression.
  25. Dear Evernote, You have a great service with Evernote and I consider every month or so to actually start using it professionally as a TODO + notes + archive app. Unfortunately it doesn't fit. The reason is simple – for me you have worst notes editor for text. It's almost useless for me. Let me (ex/com)plain. You have too many formatting options, but those are not simple enough to be useful. The formatting breaks very often when you paste something. Even checkboxes (TODO's) break. Sometimes delete a character, the whole bullet structure breaks. It really frustrates me! Look for example at TaskPaper. It has very simple formatting. Either it's a header (project), a bullet point, indent or a comment. It misses inline images, inline URLs and horizontal lines for example. But for me it's much more usable than Evernote's editor. What are notes? Basically it's text with headings in three levels, multi level bullets, todo checkboxes, comments, marked/bold/italic tekst, images/photo's. Sometimes tables. More or less what MarkDown supports. I would LOVE to have a simple formatting options which have above option. Not too many fonts, types, tables, etc. Just simple things for notes. That's what it is all about. A "fixed" formatting, like in TaskPaper, would be great. Extend it with inline images, colors, inline URLs, horizontal lines and you have a great note app. Is there anyone else having these problems with the editor? Thanks for your support! -- ddofborg
