  1. Hopefully someone can help me with the following problem: - I write a note in Evernote Desktop app - I change the creation date to some day in the past (chatching up on missing entries in my course books) - While correctly sorted according to this manually set creation date in the desktop app, the Android app sticks to the day of the real creation of the note - This messes up the entries in my notebooks on Android Is this a bug? At least I couldn't find a way to avoid this problem...
  3. Hi this is what I want to do: - send note link via Skype from my windows PC to colleague and let him open it in Windows Desktop version of Evernote NOT in browser I have found out that to do that I need to send classic note links. I also know that to send classic note links to select note, hold down CTRL go to Note>copy note link and paste it to skype. Great so far! but when my colleague puts link in browser and tries to open it with EV desktop, he gets "The note link refers to a note that no longer exists" error. Can you help me with this error? BTW I have found this thread about the error https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/53739-the-note-link-refers-to-a-note-that-no-longer-exists-error/?locale=en It looks like similar error which was waiting to be fixed. PS: Evernote is most useful app I use most frequently and makes my work much more fun! THANKS!!!
  4. I really like the new Web client interface and would like to open the discussion about Web vs Windows, or Android or iOS client. Why do I need a desktop client? All of my Evernote content is cloud based, so why do I need a desktop client? Unless it is the rare times when I am not connected to the web and need to access notebooks, etc?
  5. The new Evernote UI on web is simply amazing. Any word on if the desktop version will meet a similar redesign on Windows? http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/2/6893765/evernote-redesigned-its-note-taking-web-app-and-its-gorgeous
  6. I run Evernote on my iPhone, iPad2, MacBookPro and Web. During a routine use of the Desktop I got an error message saying that the application was corrupt. My evernote seems alive and well on all other platforms. How do I restore/re-install my Mac DeskTop version. I'm concerned that if I re-install a copy on the MacBookPro any syncing will go in the wrong direction and replace my good data with a blank sheet from a new MacBookPro installation. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Ron Bailey
  7. Hi all, I am trying to start afresh with my Evernote account and have deleted all my notes, and would like to delete the tags that are associated with it, but when I right click on the name tag, the delete action doesn't do anything. It works when I create a new tag though. These tags have been imported from a Notebook I was sharing with a colleague, but the tags didn't synchronize so we decided to unshare the notebook and that I would delete all the notes and the tags on my acccount to start again the sharing process. Does anyone of you know how I can delete these "old" tags? Thank you in advance for your help
  8. Windows 7 Enterprise Versions 6.1 build 7600 Evernote v 5.8.1.6061 (274061) Public Sync failed with Desktop devices. I use EN on my Desktop (work and home), Android Tablet and Android mobile. The laptops only started failing upon my return from overseas. I had taken one of the laptops with me. Now the Laptop's (the one I took overseas and the one in my office) Sync fail. What I have done to check where the problem is:1. check the EN Web version and confirmed it has updated with the latest information. - Confirmed.2. All android EN devices are also up to date. - Confirmed3. Rebooted Desktop4. Checked for updates5. Un-installed. Rebooted and re-installed EN6. Checked IE to ensure it is not working offline7. Emptied my Trash notebook - which by the way did change across all devices. Activity Log: Evernote_5.8.1.pdf I hope someone can assist. Thanks in advance.
  9. I started experiencing problem when trying to synchronize. This is the message I get. "Sync failed due to unexpected behavior at client side" I think it started happening when I got message that I have reached maximum number of notebooks, 250 I think. After that I can't sync anymore. I have tried a full and clean reinstallation, deleted all the database and synced everything, it worked fine but then when I tried to create a new notebook I got a message that I have reached the max number of notebooks, so I deleted one of the old ones and created a new one. I think since than I am having issues because I can’t sync anymore. It’s really problematic. I can’t use Evernote anymore. I am a premium user and I use the latest Evernote for Windows v.5.8.1.6061 (274061) Public. Please help, I think it might be either a bug or maybe there is some kind of workaround solution. I have submitted a support ticket (Ticket# 894669 - Sync failed due to unexpected behavior at client side) but posting here as well, who knows when they might reply.
  10. Subject of yesterday's automated email: Ticket# 867925 - Ticket# 861224---I was working with Amanda R on this problem about Evernote Windows not syncing. That was some time ago, I followed up with an ema... I sent a log file. Clipper, Clearly, iPhone, web all work. Desktop doesn't sync.
  11. Re-installed, no synch Removed and installed from website, still no synch. I'm not sure what my next step should be, Chrome browser, Wiindows 8.1
  12. Some newbie questions here. Up front, I have nót installed Evernote desktop yet, being uncertain about the below. I wish to use the Evernote Desktop-version: Q1: is there a Evernote Free version as well ? whilst assuming there is and in case I wish to upgrade from the Evernote Desktop Free to the Premium version Q2. will the data that I have saved in the free version be 'transferred' to the premium version? (or maybe it is the very same data, but some options/features are being 'unlocked' to get to the Premium account version?) If, at one point in time, I would like to return to a free version, what happens with all the data? (a user might have saved way above the free version storage allowance) Important thing for me is to be able to save webpages. Am using Firefox on Windows 7 x64. I think I need the Evernote Web Clipper add-on (Evernote Web Clipper 5.9.1) https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/evernote-web-clipper/ regretfully it receives a 'mediocre rating' at best (latest reviews are 1-star only) Thanks! -
  13. Hello, I have been using Evernote since all most a year and its a best tool for sharing knowledge among the colleagues and fried. Me and my friends are using this tool to share information mostly technical, while working together, we are discussing that if Evernote has these features like other tool already has and I also find it interesting to have this features in Evernote. -> One is Zoom in and Zoom out functionality in reading area. I have attached image and highlighted area with red color rectangle. Like in windows when we press Ctrl + Scroll mouse button then zooming area zoom accordingly. ->another is when evernote is share among the user with read and write permission then, any user add or delete data then entry should be added with user name and data in different color. Thank you, Mehul
  14. Hi guys, just wanted to drop several hints to get loads of money including my Premium subscription for the following years (if I don't switch to OneNote because you fail at catching up) 1) Windows Desktop client needs a functional Word-like text editor. Just look at how OneNote does it: multimedia content can be shifted around with adaptive layoutformatting tools are consistent & don't lose formatting across platform2) Windows Desktop client needs a corkboard environment, even if on a separate section. Just look at Scrivener or Springpad: they do it, it works, it helps figuring out things with small sticker notes (COLORS PLS, VIRTUAL POST-ITS, markers, etc.) before writing up longer stuff. 3) WebClipper needs to be able to clip stuff directly inside A SPECIFIC NOTE without destroying its formatting of course, but also maintaining its text/image original content. Again, OneNote does it and it's awesome. 4) Dictation is complete *****. Work on it. 5) Windows Phone app has pretty much the same functionalities of my sms client. Ramp it up AT LEAST to Android standards. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE ULTIMATE SUGGESTION THAT WILL PROJECT YOUR COMPANY IN THE OLYMPUS OF STARTUPS & MAKE U LOADS OF MONEY: 6) Z O T E R O INTEGRATION: Zotero is open source and free, and LOADS of academics use it - just let us include dynamic citations with a Zotero plugin and we can ditch Word, Office and other MS bullshit, and just keep our writing cycle all inside Evernote. If you just worked for one year on the mentioned points, ditching social bullshit and food apps, Evernote can become the ultimate productivity notetaking app, make people forget the temptation of OneNote & push you up into universities&colleges and I'm giving you all this intel for FREE. do it
  15. Hi there, With the recent Beta release of Evernote (I'm running 5.6.4.4632 [272632] Public), I'm experiencing a new behavior that's been a major annoyance. When I click the link to one of my notes in the Shortcut bar, the Note List now auto-updates to display only the notes in the same notebook as the one I clicked. The Search bar also auto-updates to show this new context. For example, let's say I'm displaying All Notes. I then click the shortcut for my "To Do" note, which lives in my "Active Lists" notebook. The Note Panel opens the "To Do" note, as it should -- that's the same as always. But now, the Note List will now display the "Active Lists" notebook, and the search bar displays "Active Lists" as the search context. I don't want Evernote to do this. It didn't used to, and it's driving me nuts -- I feel second-guessed. I just want to keep viewing the All Notes context -- I'll open up notebooks if and when I want to. Is there any way to disable this behavior?
  16. In my home desktop computer, Chrome Evernote Web Clipper will open the desktop version of Evernote when I click the link, taking me to Evernote desktop where I can edit the just-then clipped and synced piece. It does open the additional web page as well, but I think it deletes this most of the time when it goes into Evernote desktop. This works great. My question is why it works this way in my home computer but on my laptop it just syncs and opens a separate tab with Evernote online, and how can I make it open Evernote desktop on the article just like it does in my home computer? TIA
  17. I have the Evernote Desktop version 5.6.4.4632 installed on my Windows 8.1 laptop. The shortcut on my desktop re-installs the desktop version every time I click it instead of just opening the program. Is this just a shortcut issue or is this "normal". I tried this before and ended up just going back to the web version. Thanks for any input/direction anyone can give on this.
  18. I am wondering if there are 3rd party extensions for windows 7 and OSX that provide EN desktop with more advanced/automated information management. Specifically, I'm interested in better options for managing tags and notebooks. For example: automatically tag a note with a certain title, or define your own column in list view, or allowing for nested notebooks. From what I understand, tasks such as advanced tag management could probably be done in OSX with apple script (not sure what the best approach would be on Windows though), but defining your own columns in list view is an added functionality and would require a new software that uses EN API, and same goes for displaying notebooks in a different way. Are there any existing software solutions that extend EN Desktop in such advanced ways? Does the EN API even allow for the building of an alternate EN Desktop application? Thanks for your help
  19. When logging out of the desktop app, Evernote always reopens, prompting to login. I am not aware of ANY other desktop app that does this! Is there any way to disable this behaviour? Thanks
  20. Have been using evernote on a tablet for 3+ years, have now acquired a laptop and am attempting to use the desktop version for the first time, I am trying to take an audio/video recording, But unlike the android app version where its rather simple with a few taps and BOOM you're recording audio, I cannot determine the manner in which to do this on the desktop, much to my chagrin, I don't know if theres a difference between browsers, but I am on chrome if thats of any use... Thanks
  21. Hi, I frequently keep many notes open in separate windows in the desktop client of Evernote. Sometimes I have to quit the app for various reasons. I’d like the notes that I have open in separate windows to preserve their state (open in separate windows) when I reopen the app (Evernote desktop client). Is there a way that I can do that? Otherwise I find myself going through all sorts of stuff to tag each window as I close etc. Thanks for your help! All the best,Steven
  22. Hi, I'm trying to create a desktop shortcut for evernote to open a note dirctly from W7 desktop. I tried: - Copy Evernote Link to Note - Create new shortcut on Desktop and - paste in the link to note as URL Result: Since the Note URL always comes with leading https://www.evernote.com/shard/... the note will be opened in browser. But I want to open it directly in Evernote desktop application. I then tried to use filehandler "evernote://" with several combinations of the link. But there always is a message, that Evernote cannot open it since the link is wrong. I'm using Evernote for Windows, version 5.5.3.4236 (272236) Public with premium account. What do I need to do to get this working? Regards Olaf P.S.: I found several linkst for this problem also in Evernote forums and Google, but they were mostly from 2011/2012 and seemed to be outdated since none of them worked for me.
  23. I am on the verge of creating a task sheet note for students that will have them use the "Insert Time" function that exists on Evernote Desktop versions. A thought caused me to stop and post this question. Is there a way I can look into the note to see whether the time stamp is actually from the menu command or whether it was done manually. I want an actual time that the student started and stopped the activity/task. My fear is that they can just manually type in the time thereby falsifying their actual start and completion times. Is there a way I can look into the structure/command-line/skeleton, whatever, of the note to see if they used the 'Insert Time" function or typed it themselves? Thanks
  24. Too many times, I've been caught out by quickly adding / editing a note then putting my Mac to sleep without manually clicking the sync button. Later when I pull up EN on my phone, tablet or other laptop; those last minute changes aren't there (because sync never had a chance to run before the machine was put to sleep). I already have my sync frequency set to the lowest setting (5 mins); and yes, it is entirely my own fault for not remembering to manually sync...but it's still frustrating. Software, after all, is supposed make our lives better; doing things automatically so that we don't have to. Two years ago, in 2012, when OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) was announced with its "Power Nap" feature, I posted a suggestion here that EN for Mac could possibly mitigate this by attempting a sync during one of the OS "DarkWake" events; but it seems unlikely that's ever going to happen. Recently I've been toying with the idea of an AppleScript, i.e. tell application "Evernote" synchronizeend tell...in conjunction with a 3rd party utility such as SleepWatcher, Scenario or ControlPlane; that will trigger the script automatically when the OS is entering sleep (to force a sync). But it occurs to me that the root problem isn't really sync frequency, or detecting a sleep event, or even me forgetting to click the sync button. The problem is that the sync still runs on a schedule, rather than automatically whenever changes are made. The mobile apps don't have this problem, simply because they don't sync to a schedule. When you edit a note in the iPhone app (assuming you have an Internet connection); those changes are synced automatically as soon as you exit the note (perhaps even while you're still editing the note too? I haven't actually paid much attention, as it all "just works"). So it begs the question: why don't the desktop apps also do this? Obviously one issue on the desktop is that there's no "< Back" button to exit from a note back to a list; so there's no clear trigger to indicate that the user is "done" making changes. But is that, too, actually necessary? If I'm typing away in a note, and I stop typing for say, 5 seconds (or whatever); shouldn't that be a trigger for EN to sync (at least that one particular note)? Or if switch to a different note, any pending changes to previous note should be automatically synced there and then; rather than waiting for the next 5 min cycle to elapse. Clearly there's a balance to be found, between being too "chatty" (ie. syncing on every keystroke), and not enough. But think about how Google Docs works. When was the last time you ever missed an edit in one of your Google Docs because it hadn't synced? Me neither... The underlying sync architecture doesn't need to be completely replaced either. I'm assuming that, today, notes that are 'dirty' (i.e. have unsynced changes) are held in a queue somewhere, and the sync process works off that queue. That wouldn't change; it's just that instead of the only sync triggers being manual (clicking Sync) or scheduled (based on a frequency); there would be an additional set of sync triggers associated with editing/navigating between notes. It just seems odd to me that the mobile apps have this problem perfectly solved (and have had for a number of years now); while the desktop apps are still subject to notes been held hostage by a sleeping computer.
  25. I use windows 8 for PC. I have had Evernote for over a year and absolutely love it and use across my phone, laptop, desktop, and tablet. It ceased working on my desktop and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but now it just says contacting the server and never actually does anything. I haven't been able to find an answer to this problem. Any help would be appreciated. I can log in fine through the browser, but the desktop version would be more useful.
