  1. Hi everyone, Here's a quick rundown of features that were added to the Web Client Beta in last night's release. 2. Evernote is writing the chapter of WHAT YOU DON'T DO to your core user base. 1 ) You throw at us a "Web Beta" that is clearly not even close to complete. It's stripped of all functionality 2) You give the user community NO INFORMATION on where you are going with this other than spouting the new company policy of "workspace" 3) You get hammered with feedback on how HORRIBLE and UTTERLY USELESS this new UI is for working with existing notes and data 4) you do NOTHING but say "This is great feedback", "We want to hear your feedback", "Keep the feedback coming" and things like "3 more functions are going to be added in the new Beta," and maybe "6 more functions on the drawing table" 5) Crickets Chirping . . .. . . . . NOTHING . . .. . . No word . . . . No response . . . . No attempt at addressing the most basic core problem many people have with the Beta AND their people's growing concern over the direction of the desk top platforms as well . .. . . Crickets Chirping . . .. . . .

  4. i installed beta on my computer. how can i go back to classic/regular EN?
  5. I spent over an HOUR typing about 4 PAGES worth of notes for my US History class and when I clicked the "DONE" button it was like I NEVER made a note in the first place!! Not only can I not retrieve it but I cannot find it ANYWHERE in my notebooks, EVEN after I clicked the appropriate notebook first. I'm EXTREMELY angry at you, Evernote. I realize that this is just a Beta release but you could've at LEAST give users the ability to choose to just go with the older STABLE version. GOOD GRIEF.
  6. Thank you dev team, for this long overdue function. Even if it's critically crippled. A mobile phone business card scan app that can't save to Contacts ... please fix soon. Or maybe I have spoken too soon and I'm the only who can't find the "save to contacts" function?
  7. I am a basically a tech geek. I pride myself with being able to use interfaces which are counter-intuitive for most people just because I have seen so many of them. Though the old UI is not very flashy or animated, it was intuitive. Although I tried shifting to many different note taking apps (one-note, keep, pocket, any.do etc, etc), at the end of the day when I wanted to take down something without debating on which app to use, I opened evernote. So obviously when I got the pop-up to try the beta, I was happy. 10 minutes into using it, I hated it.. I have tried using it 3 times till now, but everytime I end up hating it even more, and praying to god that in future the option to use the old UI is always there. With the new UI, the main problem is that things are not infront of me. They are hidden. I know where they are, but having the list infront of you at all times in a solid unmovable frame gives a kind of trust that nothing else can give. Yes, screen-space is important. But no, human eyes are not bad at concentrating on the important part of the screen. As proved by thousands of lab experiments over the past century, human eyes are pretty good at concentrating on the important part and ignoring the rest. With the new UI, evernote is gonna become just another one of the wannabe note-taking apps which are full of features you cannot imagine even in your dreams by unusable at the end of the day. At the end I want to ask 2 things: 1. I have reverted to the old UI, but how can I stop getting the notification to try the beta every few days? 2. If you are planning to remove support for the old UI in the future, please let me know as soon as possible, so that I can start my hunt for a new note-taking app. thanks
  8. The emphasis of the new version is too far skewed towards new note creation and away from retrieval and organisation. I sincerely hope the old version will remain beyond the beta period. I see many people have expressed the same opinion so I won't labour this point, I just wanted to express my views.
  9. Hi, I'm the developer of DropCircle. What's DropCircle ? DropCircle is the easiest and best way to insert files, large and small, into your Evernote account. To upload a file to Evernote with DropCircle, just drag it to the DropCircle icon. If it’s an html file (or Safari link), a true Evernote not will be created with all the images embedded in the note. Same things for mail. Simply drag and drop a mail for mail.app or from exchange and you'll have a good looking note in place of the .eml file created by the Evernote application. You want to backup your wordpress blog (or any other blog supporting rss) ? Just drag and drop the rss file with all the articles to DropCircle. DropCircle create a note for each post with all images embedded and with correct timestamp. Currently, DropCircle supports: eml files atom/rss files html files all other files are added as resource in a new note. You could download a beta version of DropCircle here: http://bit.ly/15WaTWo I wait your comments
  10. Hi folks! Thanks to everyone who has been helping us test the web beta thus far; your feedback is much appreciated. We'll be continuing to update the web client with new features and fixes, so check the forum here to see what has been changed. This week's update is primarily a bug fix release, so there aren't many visible changes. Release Notes Public notebooks will now properly open in the old web clientEditing shared notebooks should work as expected in the old web clientVarious visual and stability bug fixesAs many of our support staff have already noted on individual threads, we are working hard to reintroduce features that didn't make our first version of the new web client. These include, but are not limited to: Table support in the note editorDrag and drop files into notesSearch highlightingSaved search supportShare a note via emailFiltering of notebooks and tags drawersAccess to note historyText encryption / decryption supportReordering shortcutsPlease check back weekly for updates on what has been added or updated, and definitely keep the feedback coming!
  11. When trying Evernote Clipper Beta, it was not functional at all for my purposes and I went back to the old version. The following were meant to be an ordered list. But because the "paste" function does not work here, the content is out of order and I'm too lazy to retype the content under the correct heading. 15. I'll try to be short but the list is long. Rephrasing: I will try to be concise. In summary: This Beta suffers from "cleanliness" over practicality. Seems to have been designed by a visual designer with little care for actual use of the tool. I hope that the developers in charge pay attention and revel against the designer driven interface. It seems to have been optimized for use on a tablet screen browser. Whatever happened to true responsive design? I will try to get time to do a video to show these and other observations. Before you discard my comments as reaction to change, please consider that I am a developer and architect who is rarely OK with the status quo. I thrive under change and understand the need for change: Keeps things fresh and current Allows trying new ideas Challenges previous assumptions Helps you adapt to new circumstances And many others These aren't pet peeves just because I am "used" to the current interface. These are actual usability concerns The current production version has a responsive interface that adapts to the available browser space. If I am on my Laptop screen it looks good. If I am on my 24" or 32" monitors it looks good. I can see my notebooks, my notes and my tags on the same page. On the beta version, I don't see the notebooks or notes when I am editing. Now I need to click several times to go from Notebook to notebook. When using a large screen the note is just in the middle of the screen with plenty of white space around. If I resize the browser, the note area resizes but the list of notes do not resize correspondingly. By the way, in a big monitor is clear that even the notes area resizes only up to a point, after that, it leaves the white bands at both sides. To make matters worst, the icons area at the top of the note, resize to the full with and makes it look as it is not part of the note. The non beta version resizes nicely as a really responsive application. I wish there was a word for wost than wost (worster?) As I start typing a note, the list of notebooks disappear. Sometimes notes are reminders of other notes and I want to see them while editing. Clicking "Done" takes me out of my note and notebook and I need to do several clicks to go back to editing my note. When editing a note, There is a top drop down to select "notebook", Given that the list of notebooks do not appear elsewhere in that page, it seems it is to select a notebook not to assign the note to a notebook. When editing the editing tools are hidden (Bullet, Indentation, etc), Probably for a hard core Evernoter it is obvious, but many new users will not realize all the tools available when editing. The interface does not align to accepted browser conventions. For example: The icons do not have "hints". One has to click on the icons to figure out what they do, e.g. the "attachments" clip doesn't say what it does, when clicking, it opens what appears is another page, Same when clicking on the "i" to get information.if you click "back" on the browser it takes you out of your note, instead of back to your note. If you refresh the page while working on a note, it it takes you out of your note, instead of back to your note Icons break the conventions. e.g. the "Share" icon uses the icon usually associated with Upload. Organization of icons also breaks conventions. If notebooks are a higher level of abstraction than notes, then Notebooks should show above the notes. This is, you normally go to a notebook to go to a note. Rarely if ever you want to see all the notes regardless of organization. Sometimes it is unclear what the action icons apply to. For example, given that the "i" (information) icon on the note editing, goes all the way to the right when resizing on a big monitor, it seems that it applies to the application, not to the note. There is plenty of wasted white space, While it appears to make the interface cleaner, it also has the effect of showing less information. For example, the "Notes" list inside a notebook
  16. This isn't a "how do you attach pdf files" question.. more on the result of doing so.. I use the Windows app, the Android app on tablet and phone.. I use Android phone document scanning and I use a fujitsu scanner that scans directly into Evernote either as a note or as a pdf. My point is that the resulting files, and the way you access them should be consistent in all usage scenarios.. and they are not.. In the sense that sometims they display in the note.. sometimes they are attachments that you have to open, and the interaction with Skitch doesn't always help.. A file scaned in using the phone scanning app shows (usually brilliantly well) as a graphic I can see immediately.. both in the mobile and PC formats.. this is perhaps the gold standard and why it irks that everything is not like this.. Obviously, in Premium, contents can be searched also.. If a file is added .. you have the option not to view as an attachment in Windows (and Mac I assume) but you cannot do this in Android.. it only shows as an attachment.. Then if you have Skitch installed.. you can open the file, click done.. and a new note is saved.. ..which now *does* show the file content in the note window (as it is now a Skitch graphic) .. but shows in the note list as a Sitch icon.. wheras the initial note appears as a pdf thumbnail.. Worse.. the new file now doesn't appear in the list of notes in the Windows App.. and I didn't want two versions of the file in any case.. It seems to me that Skitch *could* be used in Android to automatically re-render the pdf file as a graphic so you can instantly see the contents (this would be the same as unchecking the "view as attachment" option in windows.. Evernote is internally rendering the pdf file) But unless I'm missing something.. this isn't possible.. and given I deal with lots of docs from different sources, and interact with them on different devices.. it is hugely annoying that I don't get the same experience with them, given the cross-platform nature of Evernote... I acknowledge that the level of annoyance is testament to all the important stuff that Evernote does fantastically well... but it's annoying none the less.. Chris
  17. hello, i am using the evernote web beta mostly on an acer C720P chrome book, in the chrome web browser, naturally, this version of chrome - Version 37.0.2062.120 (64-bit)Platform 5978.98.1 (Official Build) stable-channel peppyFirmware Google_Peppy.4389.86.0 i really am enjoying the new interface and how nice it is to use via a web browser - may make me even give up ever using the iOS iPad & iPhone evernote apps. however... please, please, please - i am begging you here, really, please add back in the feature to do url web links in notes. it is killing me currently not to be able to do that through the beta web interface. i have searched and searched all over the interface and can find no feature to do this where it used to be simply hitting the "link" button before to add a url web link in to some text. this especially hurts in creating articles i am going to port over to wordpress for blog/article posts. would you please add this back in? by the way, i would have made this a support e-mail instead of a forum post, but i apparently cannot e-mail evernote support through the web interface unless i have a premium membership - something i can readily do from my iOS apps. so, uh, yeah - please add that functionality back in also. you know, a url web link. like this one -->> evernote. yes, i can do it here in your forums, but not in the new evernote web beta interface. really hurting me here not to have that fucntionality. please add it back in. thank you. best -- faddah wolf portland, oregon, u.s.a.
  18. This is not a question. Rather, it is a request of the Evernote team. Please do not make us eventually use the Beta version. I have not gone out to see a great deal of documentation about it or the future plans. If it says the old version will always be an option, then great - you can ignore this request. However, I do NOT like the new beta version for the main reason that it takes too many clicks now to get between the home page and editing and creating a note within a specified folder. Yes, it looks nice and it operates nicely too. However, I prefer the SPA look and feel of having everything right there in a single window which is what the current version does. Some folks may love the new UI - great. I, for one, do not. Thanks!
  19. Premium user for ages, desktop not a good option because I run Linux. I LOVE the beta - and I don't want to swap back - but without merge I have to keep firing up a client to tidy up. Please put Merge Notes top of the feature list priority (and maybe drag and drop second). Great work.
  20. (I meant "business card reader on the topic, but can't edit it now nor delete and re-post, if there's any admin reading this, please help Sorry for the mistake) Hello there, on IOS client (currently running 7.5.311939-5977e21 - Beta) when I try to scan a business card that has a group email (ie. bakers@bakeryplus.com) Evernote fetches what seems to be the most likely Linkedin match, which however might not be the one on the biz card (it seems email overpasses name check) so I ended up scanning 3 biz cards from the same group (and same group mail on all cards) and Evernote understood it as the same person. Currently I see no way of fixing or working around that, as in turning off Linkedin sync on-the-fly and back on for the next biz card. Is this working as design? Can we improve? Anyone experienced this already?
  21. In addition to my previous comments, I can't understand why the new EN web beta opens in "new note" mode. This is surely not what most people want to do straight away? I would have thought opening in the note view (with the top note already visible!) would have been much more suitable - with a prominent button to quick add a new note, if desired. EN is a great information retrieval system - this is its strength, not as a text editor. Play to your strengths and give us an interface where finding information is paramount! Just my two eurocents worth... Mark
  22. It's pretty early morning here and I haven't had my 10th coffee so I might just be dumb When I try to downolad an attachment from my notes on the new beta interface it just doesn't work. General web use is clicking on a file will start downolad - here it just brings up some formatting toolbar. Tried double clicking (or more accurately hit my mouse compulsively for about 1 minute) but nothing happened. I'm on latest firefox on a mac pro. It's a beta so bugs to be expected - I think that's one
  23. I like to run my web browsers in a small window, because I've been using Evernote as a notepad while I do other things. (I'm also mostly a mac user, so I never fullscreen anything.) The settings button is really hard to find if you're using the new web client in a sufficiently small window. It scrolls off the end of the screen, and because of the whitespace after 'Tags', I assumed that that there weren't any more options on the vertical bar. It would be helpful if the (important) settings button were in a more intuitive place, if the buttons compressed, or if there were some sort of notification (a scrollbar, an arrow, an ellipsis) that there were more buttons. I was also expecting the Evernote elephant to take me to some sort of settings page, but it doesn't. Especially frustrating because the lack of a settings button was part of what prompted me to switch back to the old beta... and I needed to find the settings button to do it. Spent about fifteen minutes poking through all of the unlabeled buttons before I could find it. It would have been helpful if there were a bar at the top along the lines of 'you are now viewing the beta, click here to switch back to the old beta', as much for my peace of mind as anything. I've gotten suckered into 'awesome new betas' and been unable to switch back, on other sites, so being unable to find the 'switch back' button worries me. On a sidenote, the new UI is also maddeningly low-contrast. I'm prone to eyestrain, so I usually work with extremely low brightness / F.lux enabled, and my monitor settings make it almost impossible to see the UI. I can't change my settings, or I'll get hideous headaches. For instance, the 'start typing' text on a new note, or the line break between notes are too light for me to read comfortably - they're just visible enough to be distracting, because I'm squinting, trying to see them more clearly. It would be really helpful if they were in a darker grey; I don't think it would make the screen read less minimalistically, and it would be much easier for me to read. Alternately, different colored themes would work for this purpose; I know that I'm an edge case, but I suspect other folks might like to work in an inverted color scheme at night, or something similar. I'm not a big fan of low information density in the first place, though; I'm going to switch back to the old version until or unless it becomes unavailable. I'm new, and it imposes a lot less cognitive strain on me to see my notebooks and notes all at once; otherwise, I need to keep the whole notebook/tag/note structure in my head. I'm using Evernote for quick notes, not for writing a novel, so easy browsing is more important than lack of distraction for me.
  24. Wow this design reminds me of Windows 8. Did Evernote hire the same design team from Microsoft? 1. Take something that is perfectly usable and everyone is used to, and completely turn it on it's ear for no good reason. 2. Determine how the users SHOULD use the product and then force them to think and work like you do. 3. Add steps (clicks) to basic functionality. 4. Make the user struggle and constantly think about how to do use the product instead of the task at hand. I hope this beta is not forced on me...EVER. Just in case, I'm Googling "Evernote Alternative".
  25. The old notes list was nice and compact, but in the new beta there is way too much empty space. This new approach does not scale well. Please add an option for compact layout.
