  1. Right now I'm torn between using Evernote and Notability. Notability is the best app I've found for using the Apple Pencil and being able to write over / around the text. However, I love the organization of Evernote and being able to tag notes, etc. ***The Request: could Evernote beef up the writing ability to a Notability-esque level?
  2. Marker and Highlighter are both free hand tools. They are both similar in function. I would like the marker to be a freehand tool to underline or circle a concept in PDF or Image. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that the highlighter tool should not be a free hand tool. Rather based on OCR in image and PDF we should be able to select certain text and highlight it. I would look clean. Similar to Adobe Reader and other softwares. Please let me know if this sounds interesting. And can the team think on incorporating the change.
  3. After upgrading to 6.11.2.7027 there is no annotate icon appers while hover over image in the note. I beleive this occres because of zoom image feature which is introduced in 6.11.2.7027.Out team is heavy annotation users. Is there any way to disable zoom feature and bring back annotate icon which shold appear on hover mouce over the image?
  4. Hi everyone, I am a premium user and I used to be able to annotate my PDFs. This feature seems to have been removed from all my devices running with Windows 10. I can read them but I can no longer edit or annotate them directly in my notes. Reinstalling and/or updating evernote as well as loging off/on do not solve the issue. I used to be able to annotate on at least 1 device. When I logged off and back on, I could no longer do it. I did not find any option or feature related to this situation in Evernote. How can I solve this situation? Thank you
  5. Hi All - I am having major problems annotating PDFs - can someone help? This started today (first time I've tried to annotate a PDF in about a week) - I right-click and choose "annotate this PDF" and it just keeps "thinking" (circular icon keeps spinning). I kept cancelling and trying again, restarting, updated the software, trying on another computer...then I finally let it keep spinning while I walked away for a while. I came back to see this error, attached. I re-downloaded the PDF from the webs source and re-saved into another note and it still didn't work. I finally clicked "Annotate a copy of this note" and I WAS able to annotate the note and save...however, when I went back to open the annotation window, I got the same error again. I tried other notes in my notebook - some work and some don't. I can't find a discernible pattern. What could this be? I'm using Windows 10, just updated to the latest EN Windows client. By the way, as a side note I really dislike the new PDF viewing interface that rolled out a month or so ago. It's a terrible viewing and usage experience. Navigating in the note and getting to the correct spot in the PDF is like trying to get around in a minefield. Extremely frustrating. Anyway, can anyone help me trouble-shoot this annotation issue? Thank you!! Darren
  6. I've been using Evernote since 2010 I think, it's come a long way since then and I legitimately depend on it daily. That said, there's something that it's been missing, and since the entrance of more accurate pointing devices on tablets, I find it maddening how this is still a thing that hasn't been done yet. I'd like to request better annotation support. Yes, I understand that annotation has been available for the past few years, but it essentially saves the annotations as attachments. I'm requesting a way to annotate notes directly in the original document that's being generated in Evernote. For example, say you're building a table in an Evernote note, then would like to draw a red line through some of the cells, and make a blue circle around other cells, currently those colored annotations are basically saved along with a copy of the table in a .pdf file that's attached to the note page. Wouldn't it be great if one could simply make those annotations to a note, but NOT have to save them as a separate file!? Doing this, if one wanted to come back and alter the original table later - adding more cells, changing the content of some cells, or deleting the annotations all together - one could. For those that work mostly with tablets, this could be a huge game changer because they could start adding in hand written notes directly into the Evernote note space, then add typed text in that same work-space too. Opposed to having long notes that contain multiple files, some typed and some hand written. I'm going to mention Microsofts OneNote as a more developed version of this, I think. Last time I looked at it, it had something similar (2011). The problem is, it's Microsoft and try to avoid them as much as possible. This would be awesome if it could be done. Regardless, keep up the great work guys.
  7. Evernote 6.12.3 I've attached a video of how to reproduce it on my Mac. How to reproduce I'm on the page 24, for example. Than I'm clicking on that page and selecting "annotate this pdf". After that an annotation window is opening and goes to the beginning of the pdf. Obviously, it's a bug. Screencast of the issue
  8. In Evernote Premium, can you search for annotations you type? In other words, does it index annotations? For example, if I'm typing my own notes on a PDF, and I type "learning objective" myself as an annotation, can I then search for that?
  9. Hey Guys, My request is that you please enhance the pdf annotator. It's really basic for what evernote's worth, can't even skip to page... feature requests skip to page better highlighting bookmark page write on page better font (it really sucks) freeform writing better text font for writing on pdf more shapes Thanks, other than that good job kiu!
  10. When I am annotating a pdf file in Evernote for Mac, if I then return to the note in which the pdf is stored to type something, the annotation window for the pdf disappears. If I then want to return to where I was up to in the pdf, I have to scroll down to find it. This means I can't annotate a pdf and type in my note in parallel.
  11. I find the PDF annotation features in Evernote slow and cumbersome on iOS with Apple Pencil. The Pencil annotation features in PDF Expert are near perfect for me, so I find myself exporting PDFs within Evernote notes to PDF Expert and then returning them once annotated. This is a cumbersome process. In particular, when you choose the pencil tool, there is a significant delay when you put pen to screen. I am often 1/2 way through a word before I realise that the 1st couple of letters did not register in time. Can we have this fixed please - or else better integration with PDF Expert?
  12. The ability to add longer comments to a specific portion of the PDF, in a way that doesn't block the view of the main text, would make Evernote a crucial part of the workflow for many Academics. While the highlighting tool in PDF annotation is wonderful, I'd like to be able to add anchored comments - longish text annotations anchored at specific points on the PDF using Evernote. So far, it looks like I can add text, but I have two choices: if it's hanging off the edge of the PDF it disappears, and if it's not hanging off the edge it covers the existing text of the PDF, making it worse than useless. The stamp tool only allows for very short little labels. Here's an example of what I mean. I think the addition of this capability would dramatically improve the PDF annotation tool, and help solidify Evernote's place in the world of Academic note-taking.
  13. Hi everyone, For anyone experiencing the issue where Annotation only works on the first page of a multi page PDF - this fix for this issue is in the next update to Evernote, version 6.11. I don't have a specific date when the general release will be but if you'd like to switch to the beta to get the fix immediately, go to Evernote > Preferences > Software Update and check the box next to "Update to beta versions when available". Once you have updated, if you no longer want to continue on the beta track, go back and uncheck the box next to "Update to beta versions when available". Conversely, if you choose to wait it out for the general release, you can use the following workaround: When needing to annotate subsequent pages from a PDF file, first select the page on the right hand column of the annotation window, then annotate. Here's a screen recording illustrating the steps to work around this: Let me know if you have any questions!
  14. When annotating a pdf its not possible to vary the font size of text. That really poor. Moreover it should be possible to choose other font characters beside the one with the light shadow.
  15. Hello, I annotate many images and PDF's in EN. Of these images/pdf's there are items which are actionable. I normally indicate actionable items on an image by annotating it with an "Attention" stamp. My question is, how can I search for any notes that contain the "Attention" stamp as part of the annotation? I know I can add a checkbox to the note, and perform a search for any "To Do" items. I also know that I can use "Tags" in the same fashion. However, I'm trying to avoid having to use either of those two avenues. Can searching for a specific "Stamp" in an annotation be done?
  16. Hey Evernote community, I like to annotate PDF's using Evernote. It's simple and quick to load on a laptop but it is a different experience on an Android tablet/phone. For example, a 44mb PDF through Evernote can't be loaded on my Nexus 9, but it can on my Nexus 5. Although, the latter took about 5 minutes to load and it is quite hard to read on a phone as well, let alone annotate. I was wondering if: I should still consider using Evernote to annotate on Android if there is a way of optimising my experience; or if I should just switch to another method, i.e. Dropbox/Adobe or any other combination Thanks guys - Stephane
  17. Hi guys! Using your desktop app on macOS Sierra 10.12.1 (had some problems to subscribe but finally found a workaround and another problem during annotating a PDF but Ellen from your Support helped me well. She advised me to report here my idea: why there isn't anywhere the page number we are currently annotating and although under each in the right pane ? (check my attach) Regards
  18. Is it correct that you cannot annotate an individual note in EN for the web? I know you can it do in EN for Windows. I don't know about EN for Mac. More generally, is there any "help page" that lists: Which EN features are available only on EN for Windows but not on EN for the web? and which EN features are available only on EN for the web but not on EN for Windows? Knowing all the various platform feature differences would help me as I develop a "workflow" to process about thirty-thousand notes.
  19. Hi everyone - a few feature requests that I was told to post here... I upgrade to Evernote premium largely to be able to mark up PDFs with my Apple Pencil on my iPad. I've noticed significant limitations. First, it's quite cumbersome to switch between interaction methods (e.g., highlighting vs. handwriting) - it's cumbersome to have to click several buttons and make multiple selections to highlight vs. write. This just takes too long when you have a lot of reading/writing. It would be hugely helpful to have multiple notation style icons that remain on screen so you can just click one button to change interaction style. Second, navigating the PDF while in a highlight mode is cumbersome. I realize you can use a two-finger scroll, but more often than not evernote fails to pick up my intention and simply remains put. Sometimes, if I don't hit the screen with exactly two fingers at the same time, it highlights or writes all over the page. In other notation programs, such as PDF expert, this isn't the case - it's much more effectively optimized. Third, you should consider adding some sort of highlighting tool other than just a marker. In Kindle, for example, highlighting behaves differently, and I can actually look up a list of highlighted text on a separate page. The evernote version simply treats this as me "drawing" over the text - there is no "smart" interaction. Fourth, formatting does not get "saved" when switching between notation modes. For example, if I click on "handwriting" from the highlighting mode, the font color stays yellow rather than reverting to black. Same with adding text - the text color would be yellow, rather than remembering my setting that all text should be black. This means that even after navigating menus to select "text" after "highlight," I have to change formatting every time I switch back and forth (font size, color). This is obnoxiously time consuming and inefficient, and I can't quite figure out why anyone would want it this way. In short, PDF markup is hugely import - for students reading articles, professionals, etc., and is a core feature of evernote premium, yet it behaves very poorly, even after months of the Apple pencil being on market. Can we expect an updated interface and notation feature set coming soon? This is critical to my use of evernote premium. Thanks
  20. As the title says and as the picture shows.
  21. I've just recently started revising my workflow to utilize more of the functionality of Evernote when I noticed there is not a "Save" function for pdf annotation. There is a "Save and Exit", but this requires exiting the annotation completely. Having a "Save" function that pushes an updated annotated version of the PDF to the main desktop client would be incredibly helpful, allowing me to save as I go without fear of my workstation crashing and losing a portion my current annotation (suffice to say, this just happened to me). I do understand that there is an automatic save function, whether that's at a time interval or when changes are flagged I don't know, but I would just prefer the ability to save manually if I notice signs of a potential system crash. Thanks for such a wonderful product! C_olinf
  22. I use Evernote on my iPad Pro to annotate PDF documents. As I often deal with large documents, it would be great if there was a bookmark function within the annotation tool. This would help to know which page I stopped at or mark certain pages to go back to. I have seen such function in other services such as Notability where you can bookmark pages of PDF documents. The way to do this is to introduce this function to the thumbnail that appears on the side when you drag it with all the pages in the annotation mode. When you click on a page it is marked. But you can only do it for single page and it is lost once you save and reopen the PDF. I hope this can be introduced soon. Otherwise if it is already available and I have not figured it out, I would appreciate it if someone can tell me how to do it.
  23. When you want to annotate a document (on macOS), if you click on the original note window, the annotation window just vanishes. This prevents you from annotating two documents (possibly from two notes) at the same time. This is a really fundamental feature and I can't believe that Evernote does not let you do this. Please, make the annotation window like a normal window so that one can annotate multiple documents at the same time.
  24. I have been annotating a course workbook for a few weeks off and on. All of the sudden when I click the the "Annotate this PDF . . ." option nothing happens now. How can I troubleshoot this? Here is how I click to start annotation: https://www.evernote.com/l/ASRr5A2NBuNJDag7Y4Ph8zpQOzcaZrzedrQ I am version 6.8 (from appstore so autoupdates) https://www.evernote.com/l/ASSQlPGdDPNAuouBCg8hDVDxRuupwjqvpUU Update 1: I tested "annotate" on another PDF and it is working fine. So there must be something with the current note / pdf causing this. Here is a link to the note / pdf I am working on: https://www.evernote.com/l/ASQPpemepsJHfKvR9sRIZMBbgQNskrN_zmE Update 2: I dowloaded and made a copy of the PDF file. Then I opened in Adobe Acrobat and edited the file (optimized size) then saved the file under a new name. I then created a new Note with the new PDF and Annotate still will not work. It must be something with the PDF file (link in update 1) and the current annotations? Update 3: I exported the PDF to Word format then from Word saved back to PDF format. When I import that new PDF into a Note, Evernote does let me Annotate. However, I lost the ability to edit any previous annotations (there were several) and some of the annotations were garbled during the transitions. The PDF that is linked in Update 1 needs something done to it to make it annotatable. Any ideas?
