  1. I have a note with a zip file attached. When I try to open it in evernote it tells me there is no suitable application installed to support the file type. Does anyone know if there is something I can install that would let me work with zip file attachments in evernote? I'm using a Nexus One phone.
  2. To be sure you've had an earful regarding this? But, I'll give you a simple work flow and I will show you where it breaks down. I get an e-mail from Amazon.com with a tracking code for my shipment. On the Mac, I throw the tracking code over into Evernote. Then I pull out my HTC EVO and open Evernote and there's the note RE the shipment. But, I can't copy and paste that code to the UPS app? That tracking code is locked in and I can't copy and paste it anywhere? Or am I missing something? I am a new evernote user, so please be patient. Thanks Wilson Hines wilsonhines AT gmail.com http://twitter.com/wilsonhines http://profiles.google.com/wilsonhines
  3. I run EN on my Androiod phone(EVO) and iPad, as well as the desktop client. Today, I cannot access my notes through my phone (Android OS). iPad seems to access fine. This is over both WiFi and Sprint network. Any suggestions?
  4. Hi, I just got my HTC Legend and I'm a new Android user. I got tipped off about Evernote and decided to try it out. However I encountered some problems finding it. How come I can't find evernote on Android Market? I have created an account at Evernote.com, scanned the QR Code and searched Android Market, but it just comes up with the following message: "No matches for the search 'pname:com.evernote'". I live in Norway and have a norwegian carrier. Maybe it isn't available up here in the north? I was hoping some of you guys could help me out here. Thanks! Odin
  5. Upgraded to 1.4.1B4 on my HTC Hero and now my notes do not show the pictures. It did work before the upgrade.
  6. Everytime I look at my Notes list, like alot of other apps for Android, I want to be able todo a longpress on the note & have options todo stuff, be it delete a note, maybe copy it...share it...whatever. I guess all the options that you get when you actually go into the note & press menu plus more. Share would be cool actually. It looks like you've enabled Evernote to be "shared" within other apps, but not vice versa.
  7. I would like to use Evernote with Android (Droid) phone, but when I tried it awhile back, it synced EVERY single thing in my account. Is there a way to limit what goes to phone?
  8. Since I've been going on and on about how I don't like the current Evernote for Android interface I thought I'd make a quick mockup sketch of how I think the new Android Client should look. I've looked into the new UI Guidelines that Google has presented for Android, primarely the dashboard and the action bar. This is what it looks like: Obviously all the artwork needs to be retouched (or at the very least be scaled up). Maybe some simpler icons? I'm not very good at icons myself so I'm not going to make a go at it. Maybe someone else? What do you guys think? Keep up the good work!
  9. I have one particular note on my Evernote client (1.4 (84727) on Nexus One running Android 2.2 build FRF91) whose updates never get flushed to the server. The Note Info says it was created Feb 23, 2010 2:02:48 PM and updated Apr 20, 2010 8:01:01 PM, but its text (on the phone) contains edits from today. If I email the note to myself, I get the version on the server, not the one on my phone. If I edit the note and hit Save, I see the "Loading" bar for a second or two, and then the note with the new text. The note does not jump up to the top of my Notes (which are sorted by update time), but the new data is still there if I scroll down and open it up. I've edited other notes and had them show up on the web client almost immediately.
  10. I just downloaded the app MyLetter - handwriting for Android on my Droid X. It gives you the ability to ink in your handwriting (with your finger on the screen, unless you have the pogo stylus). Then press the menu key, share, and evernote is one of the options. This + EN recognizing the handwriting in the uploaded note = nice.
  11. I am wondering whether there is any advantage of taking pictures using the evernote app versus simply taking a picture then "sharing" it to evernote? Does it end up the same? Are there sizing or formatting benefits? Also, is there a way to zoom in or out on pictures within the evernote app?
  12. Looks like I'm going to cancel my paid Evernote subscription as soon as I get a new Android 2.x phone. I am posting this, not because I think that I in particular matter, out of the millions of users you have, but because I think any company probably wants, or at least should want, to know why a paying customer stops paying. I really want to like your app. So much so, that I have tried to use it on and off for years. I was a paying customer of your old Windows app, and left for OneNote, when you kept failing to come out with the promised WinMo client. Now it looks like I'm going to be leaving again for Springpad, because you are just not getting the Android app up to speed fast enough. I want you to know, it has nothing to do, directly, with the recent Android bug, as that actually never gave me any problems on my old G1. The reason I'm leaving, comes down to the same reason I left last time. You guys just can't deliver features at a competitive rate, at least on the platforms I choose to use. Right now, Springpad is offering offline access to my notes, checklists that I can actually check off on my device, Google calender integration, and a host of other features I was hoping to see in Evernote for Android, but who knows when or if I ever will. More to the point, Springpad is doing all of this in their first release of an Android client, without claiming I need to wait because their iPhone client has a head start. On the whole, I like your desktop client more than I like Springpad's browser-based interface. I like your security methodology more than theirs. I like your OCR search (though I wish there was a way I could get OCR output), I like that you take all sorts of file types, I don't want or need their semantic web cross-promotional tie-ins, and I don't even care that much about being able to share things on social networking sites. If it were desktop to desktop, I would probably still be a loyal Evernote client, but it isn't. My main usage scenario is mobile. I need something that works with my handheld, that is the whole point for me of an app like this. Unfortunately, your Android app is just half-baked, and in 7 months of being a paid subscriber to your service, you have done nothing to make me feel like your Android app is going to reach feature parity with your own iPhone app any time soon, much less reach feature parity with Springpad's Android app any time in the foreseeable future. In fact, I came back to Evernote positively elated that you had decided to support Android, and eager to see what great things you would do with an exciting new platform, and I am leaving fairly certain in the opinion that Android will always be just another also-ran in your company's eyes (like your BlackBerry, Palm and WinMo clients), and that iWhatever will always be the crown jewel that is the premier Evernote client. I understand that you have been having problems getting things working on Android as you want them to. I understand that, at least according to your developers, getting local storage, and some of these other features, working is "hard." I even understand that a lot of developers, not just your company, are doing their bit to promote the iPhone, because they want Apple to win this fight. What I don't, and am not going to be able to, understand is how a smaller startup, with far fewer resources than you, can trump you on just about every feature on their first free Android release, and you can still sit here telling paying customers to be patient, because we don't understand how hard this stuff really is. After a certain point, it isn't really the customer's responsibility to care about your development issues. If you were light-years ahead of the competition, or if they were the bigger company, or if they were the ones offering the paid service, and you were the ones offering the free service, then maybe there is a certain amount of understandable leeway. Unfortunately, you are in the position of asking your Android-using customers to accept fewer features, at a higher price, with nothing to hold them over but the knowledge that they will always get an inferior experience to users on iDevices, because the Apple products have a "head start." That, at least for this customer, isn't a very good value proposition. Your service undeniably has some things going for it that Springpad doesn't, but if it takes me a couple minutes to pull up a note because of a bad connection, or if I can't get my notes on a plane, or I have shopping lists I can't actually check off while I'm shopping, then those advantages don't really matter. When it comes down to it, the tool has to be able to do the job, and hearing for months that you know that the tool isn't doing the job, but there is nothing you can do about it right now, doesn't cut it. What I really want you to understand more than anything, is that this isn't that Springpad has taking a customer away from you, it is you losing a customer, who happens to be going to Springpad. I'm not going to Springpad because they convinced me their service fit my needs better, I am leaving Evernote because you made it clear that you still aren't concerned with giving me the features I want on the device I use, and Springpad seemed like the next best alternative. If it hadn't been Springpad, it probably would have been 3banana. I was definitely your customer to lose, not someone else's customer to win. I honestly think that is something your company should evaluate about your corporate culture, because this is now the second time I have stopped paying for your software, to go to alternatives I was not particularly enthusiastic about, just because your company remained unresponsive, and too slow to deliver on the promise of your platform.
  13. Cannot seem to find the Evernote App in the UK Marketplace. I have tried searching both via the mobile network data connection and WiFi with no success. Also tried installing through AppBrain. It shows the App but then when installing reports that it cannot be found. Using HTC Wildfire. Any workarounds? Many Thanks
  14. I apologize if this has already been posted. I searched but couldn't find the answer to my issue. I have the Android Evernote application on my Motorola Droid. I had created a note in the application on my phone a few weeks back. Today I logged into my account on Evernote's web site and updated that note to add more information. As of 1 hour later that note has not been updated on my Droid to reflect the changes I completed on the web site. My Droid is on a wi-fi network so I know there are no network issues to restrict this note from updating. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to force a sync or update in Evernote on my Droid? I was thinking my next step to ensure this note got updated on my Droid would be to go to the Evernote web site with my notes, copy the information off this problem note, delete the note on the site, ensure it gets deleted on my Droid then recreate a new note with that same information to see if this solves my problem. But I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced my issue and had a fix for it.
  15. I have evernote 1.4 installed on my Nexus 1 Android. I understand you are updating the Android app for off line notes, etc. If you have a beta at any time in the future I would be willing to test it, even if it destroys all my notes (I back them up). I would love to get the functionality of the iPhone app and am willing to help in any way. Thanks, David
  16. A simple quick snapshot, even without doing any tagging or naming, currently takes 7 taps and 15-20 seconds. That's too much I feel. It may not sound long, but because there are so many steps, I have to attend closely to my phone all during those 15-20 seconds, because I have all those correct taps to make. Double the time for two pics... That is quite distracting if all I want is a quick snap, especially the screen for naming and tagging because it does not fit on the screen and I have to scroll to even get to the the "save" button. I really don't want to wait and squint into my phone for any length of time when I just snap something quickly for later reference. Any tagging and naming I usually do at home on the desktop anyway. So this is what I would like to have: An icon on my homescreen (a widget I suppose) for "Basic quick EN snapshot", one click, camera opens, take snap, exit camera and all further windows close immediately and automatically (or are not even opened in the the first place!). All the rest happens in the background, so that I immediately can use my phone again, or put it away, after snapping my picture. Of course there are times when I do want to name-and-tag, that could be two different icons on the home screen. Or at least a setting in the Evernote app. This would make it even easier to just quickly stuff something into Evernote. Keep up the good work - thanks for Evernote! ukuestner
  17. Maybe I'm missing something but - using Evernote on Android, I searched to find a note I had written, which included a link to a site. I couldn't follow the link, so I tried copy/paste, that didn't work, and I couldn't edit the link either, only append. Is there any way to use a link from a note?
  18. I remember somebody saying there was a megapixel minimum to use the picture to OCR functions on evernote. Will the LG ally be able to do this (its camera is 3.2 mp)
  19. Strange. I am trying out a new Sprint EVO since I was not impressed by the iPhone 4. I just noticed that my notes only show in up when wifi is connected. Is this purposeful? or am I missing something? I am a premium user. --Jerry
  20. Every time I try to open notes in a particular folder, I get the following error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: can't declare any more prefixes in this context Notes in other folders work fine. I tried renaming the folder on the desktop and syncing, and no luck. Same error. Any ideas?
  21. It looks like there is no option for taking a snapshot in portrait mode, only landscape. When trying to snapshot an 8 1/2 x 11 document the snapshot has to be taken from further away, reducing the clarity and accuracy of the OCR. Is there a hidden portrait mode? If not, how hard would it be to make that available in a next release?
  22. Greetings, I think I have found a bug in Evernote for Android v 1.4 (84727) When I open a note with an embedded Word Document I get the message "sorry there is no application installed that supports this file type" then immediately the document opens within Evernote and displays a bunch of unreadable gobbly gouch. I in fact have two applications installed that can open, read and edit Work docs such as Documents ToGo and Quick Office. I have also figured out a work around for this bug. If I email the note to myself from the Evernote client I can then open the word document in Documents ToGo. Hopefully there is an easy fix for this that the Evernote developers can use. Thanks for the great service and the great Android client!
  23. I've written about this before, but I'm surprised at how few report having this issue in the forums. The newest version 1.4 (84727) of the Android App is supposed to use the same camera settings as the phone, but I am only able to take the smallest resolution pictures with no option to select higher resolutions like I can in just the camera. I've seen others report this problem back in the Beta version. Just want to make sure this issue is being looked into. Also, is local caching of data coming in the next version? I heard that it was. I do love the cool multi function search though on Android. Nice job on that guys. Edit: I will add that my phone is a Sprint HTC Hero. I had this problem before and after the recent OS 2.1 update.
  24. This is going to be a loong post with quite a few images but bare with me. The basic premise is this: On all high resolution screens the Evernote client looks like *****. Let's start with what the user sees first. The Icon: The icon is very low res, it's clearly made too look good on medium res devices, like the Hero for example. It really needs to be scaled up so that we with Droids, Nexuses or Desires really can show off Evernote in all it's glory. (This applies to all the graphical glitches I'm going to show you) Next, the homescreen Maybe it's hard to see without something to reference it too. Fear not, here is a screenshot of the Twitter home screen: See the difference here? It's like night and day. I'm not saying you have to get all blue with fluffy clouds but you really need too scale up those graphics. Pending Notes We start off with more of the same (I'm starting too sound like a broken record, I know): Scale up those graphics! Also, what's up with the blackness? Why not design a fresh, light, bright gui? I get nightmares from this view, and also the Create text note view. Is there really a reason for it to necessarily be black? It really doesn't fit in with the rest of the evernote experience (maybe apart from the iPad app, which is gorgeous btw) Sound recorder: Apart from the, again, low quality graphics there's also something strange going on with the Press to record bevel. Is it supposed to be cut off at the bottom? If it is, it looks weird. And grey... really? Grey? It's not a very flattering colour. Sdcard This is more of a general question. Are anyone using this feature? Wouldn't it be better if you got a gallery picker so that you instantly can upload images from your camera right within the app? And than hide the Upload any file you want option under the menu button? Just a thought and more of a general question to the community. Everytime I press that button I do it thinking that I want to upload photos. It always ends with me going to the gallery app and share the photos with Evernote. That's all Sorry for making such a fuss about this but I really care. I cannot show off Evernote to my friends because, frankly, I'm ashamed. It really doesn't look good and it's soooo easy to fix these things. (Believe me, I'm an android developer myself, it's not hard) I'm also sorry if I come off a bit condescending, it has not been my intent. I only want to lift these issues to the surface since they haven't been shown much love in the past. I would love for you to make one of the most gorgeous apps for the Android platform. I think that would make a lot more people try Evernote for android out. And it would make my life easier when I showcase great Android apps. If you've come this far, thanks a lot for reading and sorry for all the high res images but they were kind of needed to get the point across.
  25. Hi, My trials and tribulations with the Android Evernote client on my Motorola Milestone continue. Yesterday I was shopping and wanted to check a note with details of a product I was interested in. Initially I had no coverage, so it told me I had 0 Notes. The network coverage resumed and I found the note I was after by browsing (it had been updated about 3 hours previously). What is very odd is the note didn't contain the latest info, in fact it was out of date by about 3 weeks! I checked a few other notes and there were similarly out of date. Very frustrating. When I got back home I checked and yes, my notes were all synched. In fact, I used Evernote on a couple of Windows PCs and both were up to date (as was the view of the note) from the Evernote web site. This was using the latest version from the Market. I have uninstalled Evernote and re-installed it and I am still seeing out of date notes? WTF?
