  1. What happened: I create a new note (we'll call FirstPhoneNote) my 4.4.4 phone offline around 8:00 pm yesterday while walking around. I don't keep my phone data-connected unless I have some reason to turn data on. Shortly thereafter, I get home and migrate to my Windows 8 PC. The phone synced upon it getting on WiFi at home, since I wanted to access an audio recording I had made while walking. More importantly, on the PC, I made extensive edits in a note, I'll call ImportantStuff. It appears to have sent to the server at 0:55. Before these changes, the note hadn't been edited for several days. I make changes to other notes until 2:00 am, and I am completely sure the desktop client synced. Fast forward to 3:00 am. I have an idea to jot down on my phone (on WiFi at home). I create a new note (we'll call SecondPhoneNote) and edit, not changing ImportantStuff. I notice, however, that ImportantStuff seems to not have been updated from my 0:55 edits. I did a search for key words associated with the changes I made to ImportantStuff to make sure that the changes that I thought I put in ImportantStuff were not elsewhere. There was nothing. No Conflicting Change note -- nothing. I do not think I made any changes to ImportantStuff on the phone. I'm also very confident the phone synced at this time. I go back to the desktop client in the morning, wondering whether simply opening Evernote will cause it to produce the Conflicting Change note. In the desktop client, I copy ImportantStuff as a safeguard and fire off a sync, desktop-side. The desktop client simply updated to the several days old version of ImportantStuff, the same version perplexingly seen on my phone. I can't understand how that happened. I know the server synced after the major changes to ImportantStuff last night (0:55). I know the phone synced before I got to the desktop client this morning, since the desktop version now has FirstPhoneNote and SecondPhoneNote. How did a Conflicting Change note not appear for ImportantStuff? The old Important Stuff erased the newer ImportantStuff. A few minutes ago: Thankfully, I had copied the changes to ImportantStuff before it got synced to the days-old version. I pasted the contents back into the note and synced Evernote from the desktop. It updated to the old version again! I could continue making changes to ImportantStuff within the desktop client, but upon syncing (from within desktop client) it would revert to the old state of ImportantStuff. I could do this repetitively and no Conflicting Change note would appear -- one note would simply erase the other. To have the desktop ImportantStuff override the phone ImportantStuff, I updated desktop-ImportantStuff, made changes but did not sync, fired a manual sync from the phone, and then synced the desktop client, and finally fired antoher sync from the phone. I think... it was complicated. This resulted in the both desktop/phone being the same. Right now I'm trying to figure out whether other notes, besides ImportantStuff, have had their changes (made around 0:55) lost. Not the first time? I've noticed that I've had note changes mysteriously disappear before, but I previous wrote it off as not remembering it right. I am now wondering whether a similar problem has been plaguing my use of Evernote all this time. I do not use the paid version of Evernote, in case that's important. I won't upgrade until I am sure that this type of phantom error isn't about to happen.
  2. I am having toruble with the Windows apps. The touch app doesnt allow me to take pictures or record. The Desktop App allows me to take pictures and do voice recording, but i have to take a picture, then manually upload it into the note. Is there anyway around this.
  3. Before the world jumps on me... I use 'touch' to view notes - PERIOD. My contractors do the same... I understand the win8 desktop and the touch operate from different databases (locally). I have several premium accounts (function of contractors - as "BIZ" wouldn't fit). I would like to see touch updated to at least presentable standards (IPO in the future?). In the cloud game its longevity that counts. YOU (EN) use up a large portion of real estate on my screen with the GET MORE (beloved) column for which "GET EVERNOTE FOR WINDOWS DESKTOP" is first and foremost... I HAVE IT ALREADY, AND ON THIS MACHINE. I AM Premium - so I would appreciate if you would give me back my screen's real estate (at least release a minor update which allows us who pay you to remove that damned column). Perhaps a pet peeve - but I'm also a onenote /onedrive user and to date, the split is 75/25 onenote to EN for my contractors - I sway about 1/3 to start using evernote - and often they need only "reference" documents I have loaded, so many like "touch" - those which try it - guaranteed - come back to me griping about that column.. For this biz, windows 8 touchscreen is necessary so all are interested in touch - in the end the majority end up on onenote/onedrive, as touch is often their first (and last) impression of EN. The gallery can call it whatever they want - but this STUPID glitch (don't know what else to call it) cost premium subscribers - period. Hope this at least is one more vote for having a developer spend a few hours to at minimum "clean up" this app. Still love my EN, still have multiple subscriptions, still believe - just disappointed in touch's first impression - as I spent 20 minutes showing off evernote (desktop), and they download touch - only to see what seems to be IN YOUR FACE advertising... Can't blame them for turning away (if I had started on touch - probably wouldn't be here). B.good
  4. Fellow Users: I'm having an issue with OCR searches and JPEGS any day after the first day. Initially after I've uploaded a new note with a JPEG I can successfully search the JPEGs for words (I'm searching pictures of handwritten notes from a notebook). The weird thing is that I can successfully search for a word (for example "call") directly after I upload the note and JPEG and come back the next day and search for the same word and I get nothing. Any suggestions? My environment: I am not a premium user. My devices: A windows 8 laptop and a iPhone 5s / an IOS device. Both are running the latest software as of 8-13-14. My process: I take a picture of my handwritten note with my iPhone camera, I crop the picture as needed, I rotate if needed, and save the image. I then use my iPhone to open a new note, I title it, and I choose the picture with my notes. I like using the camera for taking the picture better because I'm trying to capture handwritten business notes from a notebook and with the standard IOS camera I can crop out anything on the sides that I don't want to include. Again, any suggestions are appreciated.
  5. I moved recently. Before I moved the Evernote Windows client (on either of my two Win8.1 laptops) synced smoothly, every time. Since moving both laptops would partially sync (base note but not PDF contents or base note plus partial PDF contents) or more recently fail to sync the note at all. Once a note has partially synced, I can't seem to find a way to get it to resync correctly. It remains a partial note missing content. To be clear, the problem is downloading notes which appear correct on the Evernote web interface but download incomplete or fail to download on the Windows client. Recent client updates seem to have resolved the partial note update problem but I still continue to get many sync failures. This suggests that now Evernote checks to see that a note has synced entirely before adding it to the local database. The core problem remains - content visible through the web interface isn't being synced with the Windows client. Now, eventually, after a couple of sync attempts the note will usually eventually sync correctly. However the process is painful. I believe that the only thing that changed when I moved was my Internet provider. My internet provided is Verizon FIOS and I have the basic 15 Mbs / 5 Mbs plan. Thanks, Nicholas
  6. I just started getting synchronization failure with the Evernote for Windows 8, ver 5.6.4.4632. I can successfully synch on an iPod, Android phone and a Windows 8.1 Tablet. I ahve also uninstalled and reinstalled the Evernote client with the same result. Other than the Synchronization Failed popup, I see no specific error message. Where can I look?
  7. This bug really affects workflow when you are trying to quickly tag with the GTD (Getting Things Done) method which uses a lot of tagging. Problem: If you start typing a part of a tag name (not the first letter) it will appear. If you try to click the tag or tab, highlight, and hit enter it creates a new tag of whatever you typed. Example: Say your tag was @home and you started to type "ho". Every tag that has the letters "ho" appear in autocomplete. But, no matter what tag you click, it will not choose it (unless the tag began with "ho") it will just create a new tag of "ho". Example 2: The tag is "Things to Buy". If you type "Bu" the tag appears in autocomplete. If you click the tag "Things to Buy" it creates a new tag called "Bu" I have a bunch of these tags created all the time because you have to remember to type exactly what the tag begins with for it to work properly. This is not how search autocomplete is supposed to work. This has been an issue for a long time and I see others report it on the Mac.
  8. I recently upgraded to Evernote 5 and with the new format I can't figure out how to streamline my searches. In the past, I could be in a particular notebook and start a search in just that notebook--narrowing with tags and keywords. Now it seems I can ONLY start a search with ALL my notes--which means I have to remember the EXACT name of my notebook to narrow my search. It also seems to kick me back to searching all notebooks and notes if I click on the tags on the left. I suppose that for someone with only a few notes or notebooks, this search function would be useful. But I have sooooo many notes and need to be able to narrow my search to a specific notebook like before. Is there a functionality that I'm missing or a workaround that I haven't discovered yet? I miss what I had . . .
  9. I have the Evernote Desktop version 5.6.4.4632 installed on my Windows 8.1 laptop. The shortcut on my desktop re-installs the desktop version every time I click it instead of just opening the program. Is this just a shortcut issue or is this "normal". I tried this before and ended up just going back to the web version. Thanks for any input/direction anyone can give on this.
  10. I know that there is an old thread on this. I love evernote - because of the web/smartphone flexibility. But I use it for both notes AND to-do lists. I would prefer not to add additional software. I just want a way to clear "done" items from my list so that I can keep a rolling list of to-dos. Seems like a very simple UI add for Evernote, I am baffled on why they would not provide this. Not asking for any complex list management... just a way to keep my list clean.
Gracias Evernote.pdf
  12. I'm running version 4.6.6.8360 and it's crashing on every background sync attempt. It also crashes when manually triggering a sync. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but the problem persists.
  13. OK - sanity check required please folks. Been having a weird day after I mistakenly clicked the 'upgrade to 8.1' button on my laptop. (I've been trying to ignore it for weeks). Turns out once you've clicked it there's no retry/ cancel option - Win 8.1 was delivered to my laptop. And so far I can't tell much difference from Windows 8.0. Except for one minor thing - my Evernote now crashes like a felled tree every time I start it. Either I get a complete freeze, or the 'Fatal Error, send us an error report' pop-up. Being a fully qualified techy person I went through the options I could think of - my lappy's memory and HD check out; the disk isn't full, I'm not virussed with anything. So I clean reinstalled Evernote. Same crashing. So I Revo uninstalled Evernote, backed up and killed the database, and reinstalled from a new Evernote.com download. And I still have the same problem. A minute or two into operations everything freezes and Evernote shows as a process occupying 30+MB of memory but not doing anything; or I get the Fatal Error pop-up and everything falls apart. I did get two logs which I'll forward on to the tech guys. I'm putting this here first because it's useful background for my support request - I'll add the ticket number when I get one. Windows 8.1 / Evernote 5.6.4.4632 / Headache in all the wrong places.. EDIT: OK: My Title should obviously be 'Fatal Error' but I can't seem to change that - and my ticket is #725547 if anyone can take a look.. I don't think it's possible to send more than one file via the ticket, and I had to change the *.log file to .log.txt to get that to go through - I've also got an error log file to send on.
  14. Hello, I am running two evernote accounts and presently working on a windows 8.1 computer. One of my two accounts (I am not a premium user so I log in and out of accounts to manage them) fails to sync. With the account that is failing to sync I can only work on Evernote web, today, and not without some connection problems that manifest only with the evernote web site. Is anyone experiencing similar syncing problems? I also manage both accounts from a Mac book and an IMac via software and not EN web, and never have a problem with the syncing. Syncing problem only appears here on windows 8.1 . Please help.
  15. Am a new user of Evernote. I just need help on how to use this platform, as in making friends to know that am a member of this forum, how to search for topics and also how I can get it work on my windows 8 phone.
  16. Hi all! Evernote couldn't solve my problem, maybe one of you can help me? I use EN on my home Win8.1 machine, my work Win7 and my Android phone. At work and on the phone, all's cool. But at home, in the Windows client, for several months now it takes 2-3, even more minutes to finish loading - the program windows open just fine but the lists and notes take that long to come up. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, I sent my log to Evernote tech support a couple months ago, they thought newer versions might fix it - but I have the new GA release out this week and still ... it's not a huge issue, I can wait a few minutes - I've seen someone talk about rebuilding the local database, I figure it has to be something in that database since work and phone are just fine, all open fine - oh and no other programs on my home PC (a Lenovo laptop, 1-2 years old) are having any similar issues. I'll cut paste my current log below. Note at the start the nearly 3 minutes it took to open the database. Do I really have to, like, delete that .exb file, then ... what, uninstall/reinstall, or just sign in and let it rebuild it again locally? Any advice most appreciated! The least-hassle fix brings the gratest karma of course;-) Log opened on 2014/08/29 09:02:48 (UTC-7:00) 09:02:48 [9644] Command line: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote\Evernote.exe" 09:02:48 17. Please add picture insertion to the Win8 version. It's an area where OneNote is clearly better, and it would seem simple to fix since almost all other clients have it already. Thanks.
  18. Having an issue where every time I try and use the find function (ctrl+f) in Word/ Chrome/ a pdf it immediately jumps to evernote and searches there instead of the window I am in. Any clues how to fix this? cheers
  19. I am using the latest Evernote on Windows 8 and have a question. I use the tags feature primarily to organize my notes, and am commonly using the "Find a Tag" function as per the screen shot attached . I have been trying to find a keyboard shortcut (or how to configure one) to jump directly to this find a tag function. To go there now, I typically navigate the UI on the left pane of the UI and then click Tags, which brings up this dialog. Am I missing something... is there an easy way to do this?
  20. Hi, I have my GTD-system in Evernote; it's based around several tag-groups [question] (!Action? #Context? //Time?) That each have their sub-tags [answer] (IE //time? has //9 to 5, //Week-ends, //18<) Now this is the way I order everything = input. What I need is output through the use of saved searches as @Shortcuts. For example I am at home in the evening during the week, at my desk; so that's !Action? = !Next Action, #context? = #Bureau, //Time? = 18< (after work hours). I would make a shortcut @Admin for this. But there are some things I can do both after workhours (18<) aswell as on Weekends (We). Question= For my @Admin shortcut I need: (notebook: Actionable) tag: !Next Action AND tag: #bureau And [//18< OR //WE] At first tries it didn't seem to work with the 'any:' option.
  21. I started to use Evernote on a Windows XP and Android several months ago. Download from the web and easy installation. Tree-structure for Notes, Notebooks and Tags on the left side. Easy to work. For work I got recently a new laptop with Evernote Touch for Windows 8.1 (64 bit) installed. I am very annoyed about the layout. Notebook partially on the screen, and for Tags, always have to swipe the screen to reach this area. Have been looking in the forum on how to change the screen settings. Found a lot of complaints on this layout, but no solution in these discussions (I looked for term layout / arrangement / settings). Evernote Touch (as other Touch software) even don't have a settings menu; I guess this is a Windows 8 Touch problem, not an Evernote Touch problem. Is it possible to change the layout: - smaller icons such that the whole 1.5 screen wide menu can be shown on 1 screen? - move the "Get More" to the right side? If not possible in Evernote Touch, how is the Evernote for Windows 8 (not the Touch version)? Does it still have the Tree-structure, or is this more configurable? Thank you
  22. Hi. .. I really need some help getting Evernote working. 1. I cloned my hard drive to an SSD 2. My machine runs fine, but Evernote for whatever reason hangs on sync during exit. 3. After Searching around, I found from several sources that the source was apparently the 'new' drive. 4. I've tried un-installing re-installing evernote; no sucess After re-install, Evernote runs for a while, tries to sync; Blows up at 500 notes (everytime). I get a popup box (3 at a time) : "Evernote.exe 5.6.4.4632 has encountered a problem and needs to close. . ." etc. After I re-start Evernote again, the same errors. Log Files - from 3 popu p windows (attached) exc52F.txt exc716.txt exc8BD.txt Anyone have any suggestions? Is there a registry cleanup or Evernote un-install program that I can run? Thanks. .. exc52F.txt exc716.txt exc8BD.txt
  23. I cannot seem to find where the button is to insert a checkbox in the windows 8 version of evernote. Anyone point me in the right direction? I make lots of daily/weekly work and personal lists. Thanks.
  24. Hello everybody. I work for a landscaping company that is making the switch over to tablets and such now. Let me first explain what we would like to be able to do. We would like to be able to have a salesman go on a site, open Evernote, take a picture, speak to it to record what was discussed with on-site manager, to continute to do this around the entire site. Then be able to create a link of the noteboook that was just created, and simply send the link to the on-site manager so he can see everything that was just discussed without him/her making an Evernote account. This is what someone on the Android tablet created. https://www.evernote.com/shard/s423/sh/58797247-b208-4df1-8aa8-1e825ef5b9f2/21160f0d65397c0e3a7b034a36bbfe4a However, we are unable to duplicate that on the new Windows PC/Tablet. It doesnt allow you to speak into it using the Evernote Touch app, and the Desktop app isnt efficient when walking around on a job site, everything is too small. So the real question is, how can we duplicate what was created in the link above, on the Windows 8 tablet?
