  1. Share the ways Evernote can be the one app for all your students education needs. Create: Create content directly in Evernote. Text notes, Audio notes, snapshots, lists and more. Collect: Bring in content from all other sources. Add files, Web clips, images, scans and more. Once in Evernote you can easily organize them. Collaborate: Share single notes, share notebooks, share with individuals, groups of people or the world.
  2. Hi all, Curating some great ideas and tips on using Evernote in Education- http://flip.it/SxDq5 Cheers, Bec
  3. Hi. I'm a tech-pedagogy support person to teachers. The school does not have an Evernote education account. A teacher wants her students to gather an online portfolio. I use EN extensively and know that potentially, EN is the perfect tool for her needs. I assume that if the teacher got a Premium Account, and created a folder for each of her 14 students, shared each with a student, then her students could create their individual portfolios, each shared with the teacher. The students would use a free account, the teacher a premium account. Is this the case? If we can do this, and it is a success, then there will no doubt be many other teachers wanting to do the same thing, and logically a case for a school account. If I have to, at this early, untried, point in time, ask for an official school EN account, or if students have to get a paid account I will be told to use One Note. Because the school PCs have One Note. So I am hoping my described set up will work. Please advise.
  4. I have been using Evernote to save and record discussions my students have during thier book club discussions. Initially it worked well. They could add a quick note and their audio from the ipads. I could pull the note up on my desktop and listen to their discussions. I thought I had found the perfect solution. The problem I am having is that the amount of memory the audios take limis how much we can use it. Of course the school is unable to pay for a premium subscription. I would love any suggestions.
  5. Hello Evernoters! It is wonderful to see how many educators are using Evernote in their Classrooms. You all have added great portfolio resources over the past few months! I am the Technology Coordinator for an International School in South Korea and in that role, I have the ability to help shape our school policy. We just got the approval to go "school-wide" with E(vernote)-Portfolios. My team and I are designing a number of resources for student/teacher/administrator/counselor use. We just started, but we are hopeful that we will have some things up soon (since there are six of us). First and foremost, our team found Portfolios for Student Growth and started using their documentation to create our user guides (with permission of course). We will continually post resources on this forum, and you can find all of the resources and documents through my personal website (until our school Technology Site is up and running). Since we are just getting going, we will try to capture as much of the startup process as we can to provide a guide for everyone else who is going through the process. Much to my chagrin, I have found that very little free information currently exists for a school-wide distribution of Evernote as an E-Portfolio Platform. We have to build momentum! Being a consultant, I understand that sometimes you have a great idea that can turn a profit, but to start the momentum, we have to get users! In that vein, everything that we create for this school-wide Evernote E-Portfolio program will be posted for free for everyone. Get them into the hands of your administrators and get some school-wide pilots going! If you have gone “school-wide” and have some useful tips, reply to this thread so that we don't all step in the same mess. Just for reference, we are using Evernote in conjunction with Google Apps for Education, PowerSchool, and Schoology. We use 1-to-1 Macbooks (grades 5-12) and 1-to-1 iPads (grades 2-5). One of the integral components of our E-Portfolio system is using Evernote Moleskine Notebooks school-wide. Evernote is helping us place a bulk order and get our kids using them, we will let you know how it turns out. If you are interested in how all of these things play well together, shoot me an email or message on the forum and we can chat. The first document that we created (attached) outlines how we are going to design our E-Portfolio system (based upon Portfolios for Student Growth) with Evernote Notebooks and postach.io blogs. Technically speaking, the attached is the portfolio overview that we will be giving to teachers as we begin the process of integrating Evernote. Happy Note-taking! Shoot us an email if you have questions! Student Portfolio Overview.pdf
  6. Hi all, I have created a shared notebook to share with a class of 27 students. When I first shared it, I created a public link. I then realized that it should not be public because some of the content is owned by vendors we purchase worksheets from, etc. After I deleted the public link, some of my students could no longer access it, while others had no problem. What gives? I noticed in the notebook that when I look under sharing properties, that some student's emails are black, and some are listed in grey... i wonder if this shows how they joined the notebook, and if they will lose access if I remove the public link. Thanks in advance for any help. I am really hoping that evernote will be the answer to all of my organizational problems! Sara
  7. Does anyone know of a k-12 admission office using Evernote? I am looking into it to make our application reading a paperless enterprise and would love to hear ideas and suggestions from others. I am the director of admission and financial aid at Greenhills School in Ann Arbor, MI. Betsy Ellsworth
  8. I'm new to this forum. I've been using Evernote minimally with my writing classes for about eight weeks. I have a public notebook in which I place journal topics. Students were given the public link and joined the notebook that way. They view the journal prompt in this notebook and then complete the assignment in their individual notebooks which they have shared with me. (I have recently upgraded to premium but had a free account when I began which I why I chose to set it up this way). This system has been working fine until last week when suddenly one of my students was no longer able to view the joined notebook that contains the journal topics. She joined the notebook again (using the public link) and was then able once again to view the topics. This worked for a day and when she returned to Evernote she once again could not view the joined notebook nor would the link work. I have since invited her to the notebook and she is currently able to view it. Any ideas why someone who be "unjoined" from a notebook. Is it a glitch from the upgrade, a setting/choice the user inadvertently made? Anyone experienced this? I appreciate any advice you can offer.
  9. I am a teacher with a premium subscription. I would like to share a notebook with my students, but I don't want them to collaborate on the notebook. I want them to use it as a template and add their own notes. How do I share the notebook without having them all work together on it?
  10. We had a sponsored group running as a pilot with the 50% education discount. We were shut off of that February 2 when (apparently) sponsored groups were discontiuned. So far the only referrals I'm getting are for the Evernote for Business option instead and I cannot discover where any ed discount exists. Has the education discount gone away? If not, how do I move my sponsored group into the new solution. If not, $120/student or teacher/year is a pretty high bar ($60 was already pretty high in my view).
  11. The Inquiry Learning Activity I will be involved with will be a Year 4 class undertaking a guided inquiry project under the Geography, Physical Education and Science curriculum. It will be over a four week period and will commence on 14 August 2013, with the first questionnaire at this stage. The second questionnaire will be on 20 August, 2013 and the third questionnaire on 30 August 2013. The teacher gave the students tuition and guidance on how to use OneNote initially prior to starting the project. The students will be producing a written report, a visual presentation both verbally and on Power Point on their chosen topic. Four students in the class will need extra guidance throughout the process as one is dyslexic and the others need extra guidance to help them keep on task.
  12. I just heard abut using Evernote to maintain student portfolios for CCSS. I am not worried about FERPA stuff because I will just use students numbers...But, I started by just adding the students in a notes and then I tagged them. I read in another post that I should create a notebook for each student??? This seems very time consuming. Can I create some sort of rubric or chart that I can put in each student's note? That way when I need to add something I can just search their number and score the rubric? I want to put pictures as well, but this will not go into effect until next school year. I need lots of time to practice Thanks for any help that you can give me. I was going to just buy the Evernote for Dummies book. Dawn
  13. I'm a Ph.D. student and a former HS english teacher - I'm deep in paper-writing territory, and Evernote is helping me out immensely. I put together a guide for students (or teachers who want new ideas for their students): How to write a paper using Evernote Hope it helps. Cheers, Greg
  14. Hi everyone! On my blog this morning, I wrote a post about my experience on how I taught my homeschooled 10-year old how to use Evernote for his research assignment. I just have to say how awesome this experience was for both me, my wife, and naturally my son! I am not only so proud of my son, but this post really drills home Evernote's vast potential, ease of use, and what we, as adults, can learn from this marvelous experience. Have you taught your children how to use Evernote? I'm very anxious to hear if anyone has ever done this or how you feel about teaching homeschooled children how to leverage Evernote in this manner. Thanks!! http://www.degconsulting.net/2013/05/evernote-kids-education.html
  15. I have students joining Evernote and creating notebooks where they take notes and do assignments. The notebook is then shared with me so I can view their work. I have 104 students who have joined. Once I hit that number I haven't been able to join any other notebooks. The students set up the account, share the notebook, I open the email but every time I click on the "Open Shared Notebook" it responds with "failed to join notebook". Any ideas? Thanks.
  16. This may be an obvious question but I am wondering how I would do something like this: I give a quiz - I grade/correct the quiz - I scan them as a class. But then I would like to call up all the graded papers for John Doe. How can I have the students identify themselves to make this happen? I hope this makes sense. Thanks for the help.
  17. I'm looking into using Evernote as the recommended portfolio product for our school. I have a few questions as to how administration of this would work which I've emailed to schools@evernote.com but received no reply, so I'm trying my luck posting here... Thanks in advance for any help! Is "for schools" pricing available in New Zealand? If we are in the program, presumably it’s optional for an individual student to have a free or premium account? With 1500+ students I won't be setting their accounts up myself (!) - so how do individual students get a premium account, and how is it paid for? Or is there an account provisioning system? Thanks, Carl
  18. I use Evernote everywhere (except on my cheesy android phone-crashes). I had a light-bulb moment to use it for documentation of behavior and EC compliance. My principal was concerned that as a cloud based service, there might be privacy issues. (FERPA). Any thoughts?
  19. I am an avid Evernote user and I am currently introducing it to my students. In my yearbook class, we share lots of information on a server and I thought it would be great to create an group Evernote account that all the students can access and post information on. What is the best way to set this up? Do I give each student the username and login? Is there a better way? I want everyone to be able to post and edit information. It's basically 6 students and myself. Thanks.
  20. My students are using Evernote as their science notebook this year. At any time, they have the option of using a paper notebook and taking a photo of their written notes to place them in their Evernote notebook. Special education staff is insisting that I no longer use this in my classroom with my 7th and 8th grade students. I don't understand this since students have the option of using a paper notebook and the students in question say that they prefer using the electronic version, and are able to do so. Has anyone else used this with special needs students and ran into these difficulties? Any suggestions?
  21. I have created a notebook for my students that has a series of assignments in it. It is based on around a problem...Not to toot my own horn, but I think it is way cool. The problem is "Is it better to lease a car or buy a car." The first assignment is to have students interview someone who is leasing a car. They have to write four open ending questions and actually tape the interview using the recorder on Evernote. The second assignment involves students coming up with algebra equations to help solve the questions. The third assignment is for them to write a paragraph with their finial results. HERE IS THE PROBLEM: I have is all nice a neat in a note book ready to share with them. My thought was they would do their work right in the note book, rename and share it back with me for assessment. When I tested my theory I find that you can't share or rename or copy a shared notebook. CAN ANYONE THINK OF HOW TO HELP ME? I PROMISE TO BE YOUR BEST FRIEND FOR LIFE! https://www.evernote...l/letsmakeadeal
  22. Greetings, I teach science in a small rural high school (grades 7-12 in one building). Last year I used Google Docs as collaborative (small group) digital science notebooks. There are many features that I like about Docs, particularly the commenting feature. However, I do not have a 1:1 classroom and depsite my efforts to promote kids working together, some participated little in their groups. I wanted a way to better get kids involved individually, and thought if I included kids using thier own devices, along with those at school, I could make this more likely. The problem? The new Google Drive is read only on iOS mobile devices, which many of my kids own. So....knowing Evernote works on everything, I thought it might be a good alternative. I am one of those who downloaded Evernote at a colleagues's suggestion to my smart phone and never used it. I have started to play with it and am reaearching the web, so I have the basics, but I would like suggestions from those who may have used it more in this capacity or something similar. I am also concerned about the ability to do comment easily on student work, as they would be using the free version. Thank you!
  23. Are there any UK Infant/ Primary tecahers using Evernote? My wife is looking for a solution for Early Years Foundation Stage record keeping and whilst there are a few apps out there for the iPhone, they don't seem as intuitive as EN to me. I wondered if anyone is using EN for their record keeping and if so, what tips you could give me for the best way to setup my wife's (she doesn't know it yet!) Evernote account. She is a class share teacher and so needs to be able to colaborate with the other teacher hence I thought EN's sharing feature would be ideal. Does she need to have a Premium account as the school has zero internet access? Many thanks for anyone's tips.
  24. Hello, Very new to evernote and have chosen to trial this in my classroom this year. What I want to do is use this as a form of anecdotal note-taking. I want to set up a notebook for each of my children which then can be subdivided into the differents areas (math, reading, writing, social/emotional) for each child. Then when I take notes I can just plop them into the according sub-folders. Any help? Thanks, Riz
  25. Hello, I am a teacher using Evernote for the first time in my classroom. Today I had the students share their notebooks with me, so I am linked with all of them. In my "Linked Notebooks", they are arranged alphabetically, but I would like to arrange them by hour. Is there any way I can do this? Evernote won't let me move the position of the notebooks (at least on the web-based version). Thanks! Danielle
