  1. This is a page on my blog that I created highlighting features and uses of Evernote in Education. http://educationaltechnologyguy.blogspot.com/p/evernote-for-education.html I also post a lot of other articles about Evernote http://educationaltechnologyguy.blogspot.com/search/label/Evernote, including an Evernote Tips and Tricks series http://educationaltechnologyguy.blogspot.com/search/label/evernote tips Would love to hear about how others are using Evernote in Education.
  2. Since 2011, Evernote has been my teacher website to deliver agendas, links, activities..like everyone else. The past 2 weeks or so - students cannot access my website at all. I use the bitly link to those individual sites and they are there....Conflicts with Chrome laptops? We are 1:1 with Google Chromes...conflicts?
  3. I just started using Evernote because I really liked the screenshots I saw. They showed a view that allowed you to see all notebooks as icons (see attached image) in a pane that scrolls horizontally. I can't seem to find a way to replicate this view. I'm using Evernote 7.18 for iPad and have paid for the premium version.
  4. I have three kids, the oldest of which is going into the 7th grade next year. I think she's at an age where I need to start showing her how to use Evernote to be more productive at school. I've seen a few articles on how to show kids how to set up an account, but I haven't seen anything on how to take them to the next step. How do I start teaching her how to create notebooks, tag files, etc, etc... Thanks ahead of time for any help,
  5. Our municipality/township is about to decide the what all our schools should use: PC or Chromebooks. The main argument for choosing PC and O365 is OneNote. I’ve not used either OneNote or Evernote, but to me it looks like Evernote is far behind OneNote in many areas. Like for instance organizing your stuff colorcoded and OCR-extracting. I was so happy about the announcement of Google Drive integration, but I can’t find the Evernote App in the Chromebook store so now I’m disappointed. And then I read this thread and became discouraged: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/66103-alternatives-to-en-discussion What are your experience with using OneNote and Evernote in K-12?
  6. I do like Evernote a lot and use it personally, but find it hard to recommend to staff and students in my organisation because although features are called or setup in a slightly different way, Evernote is very similar to OneNote. Microsoft give Onenote away for free, and to our students and staff they have unlimited storage for free. Its a difficult sell, lots of money or free. I would love to see at least an option to sign up with an education institution email address and get a 50% for a certain time to get people using it, but at the moment, even if we prefer Evernote, its hard to justify using it vs free
  7. Please add a feature where we can embed Google Drive documents inline (like PDFs).
  8. Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out how to use my evernote account and a jotscript pen to go paperless in my student workflow for a writing class. I've looked far and wide and still haven't found anybody doing (or at least written about) this option. Here is what I'd like to do: Option #1 Students send me an email to my evernote email. I then use a jotscript pen to edit their paper like I would if they gave me a written copy I send it back to their email for them to revise Option #2 - Do the same via a chat in evernote with students who have an evernote account. Anyone have any advice? Experience? My goal is to go as paperless as possible. I've tried this with my son and his evernote account but the workflow using penultimate was less than ideal. Thanks!
  9. We are trying to establish Evernote Business as our Learning Management System. We want to use it to create and store all our learning resources and to deliver those resources to our students. The school has about 600 students and our trial period has been very positive. We are trying to foresee any issues and possibilities ahead. Are there any other schools using Evernote in this way?
  10. I wonder, does anyone know how it might be to use work chat to give comments and discuss with students in their shared notebooks? I am a premium user and have shared class notebooks with my classes, then shared another with editing rights with each of my students, and I have wanted to be able to just hit "like" or say "great, go ahead" or more, when I see they have uploaded something or are on their way with an assignment. Is Work chat my answer? I am testing it out with a few already but am not sure how it works, really. Anyone else tried this? I also wonder WHY Evernote does not automatically find the person I am sharing the note with as I click 'share' and choose email or, as of lately, 'chat' - wouldn't that person be the obvious default choice? Instead, unless the person's address is in my contact list (and honestly I'm not sure which one of my contact databases it is the program accesses...I am on my work computer, but it seems to be my google contacts) - I have to type in the address from memory or look it up. Just slightly annoying as is seems a simple thing to offer - maybe it isn't.
  11. I would like to be able to have students use my iPad to contribute to a lesson with EverNote and a projector. To do this I need to be able password protect some notes or notebooks as they might have tests etc I don't want students to see. It is possible to do this with Microsoft's OneNote. Is there some way to do this with EverNote? I want to password protect notes and notebooks.
  12. I am a Technology Services manager at a small independent school. I often create Prezis to explain or introduce software to teachers and students. I thought you might find this Prezi about Evernote useful in case you want to introduce it in your school: http://prezi.com/qi-uylt7mcvt/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share Cheers, Barbara
  13. I have had my students use evernote in class for a little over a week. They have been using it to take notes, and today I wanted to send them all an assignment into their evernote account by using the email feature. This worked fine in the morning, but this afternoon I tried to do the same thing and a message at the bottom of my screen kept saying "could not send email" even though earlier that email was working and was correct. Any ideas? Thanks!
  14. Hi, I am looking for h.elp for my 12 year old student who created an Evernote account to take class notes and used an email as the user name, but typed the email address incorrectly - gmil.com vs. gmail.com. Then the student forgot the password. Then couldn't retrieve the password because the response from Evernote was emailed to the incorrect email address. Help Help help. Any ideas? I have an hysterical kid who can't get science notes for a test that they spent a lot of time on.
  15. Hi there, I am a teacher and am using evernote as a way for my students to have digital notebooks that they share with me. I use it in a way that I can access their work, look at their lessons, and be able to edit it in a way that makes sense (and more importantly can do it from my iPhone/ipad/at home or anywhere with my device that has internet). This system works fantastically and I am super pleased with it. I only used it last year with one grade level and am now interested in using it with more grade levels to the point of having approximately 160 students all sharing their books with me. I have learned how to stack the books into grade levels and classes which makes finding books and assessing them much easier. Is there any way that I can have all of my students connected through evernote? Is it possible to increase the way that my students and I connect through the system? I saw somewhere that you can only have a maximum of 100 books connected to you, is this true? In using the paid version, will this increase the amount of books that I can be connected to? I use 1 book for each grade level that I have publicly shared with the kids and they are connected to. I then want to share and be able to modify their books that they connect with me. How do I ensure that I can get them all connected as this seems to be the way of the future for notebooks. Really interested in hearing your solutions... I am pouring through all the evernote forums looking for the answer. j
  16. Hi Everyone, I have put together a collection of Evernote resources that I provided to my staff to get them started with Evernote. Thought I would share it here incase others find it useful. Here is the link- http://evernote4teachers.postach.io/ On a side note there is a heap more posts on my blog about Evernote in Education http://becspink.com/evernote/. Happy to answer any questions and share further! Bec
  17. Greetings All, I am a relative newbie to Evernote and soaking it in believing this will completely transform my teaching. I have researched and read everything I can find on this topic and will continue to do so. I want to incorporate this to use with Student portfolios. I do have a premium account (ty S5), but I would be an early adapter at my school and will not be able to get school licenses. I teacher 180 students, so there is no way I could create a folder for each one. What I thought about doing is the following and I would love feedback, suggestion, and comments: - Create a notebook for all scanned documents for students (probably different notebook for each period) - I will assign each students a certain code and on the top of each paper I will make them write the code (IE #501) - I am more than willing to invest in a quality scanner such as the Evernote Snapscan - When I have a problem student or upcoming conference, I can do a search for their number and the OCR should pick up all documents that have that number 501. - I can create a folder for that student with their number and then share it with the parents as necessary. So my questions included: 1) For this to work would i have to scan each document separately anyway? 2) Would the ocr and search functions be sophisticated enough to pick up the codes? 3) Any other suggestions, concerns, etc? Thanks so much in advance for any and all advice.
  18. One of my favorite features in Evernote, when it comes to collaborating and providing feedback to students, is the annotate button. When an artifact is shared it can then be annotated using the tools found in Skitch. You can annotate any note as a PDF or photo which allows you to write and draw directly on the work itself. Once you are done annotating Evernote creates a new note with the entire annotation, a break down of each annotation and the name of the person who gave the annotation. It keeps the original notes title but adds Annotated to it so it is easy to see what work has been give feedback. At the same time it keeps the original work so it doesn’t need to be redone aafter all the annotating.
  19. Greetings Evernote Forum, I recently decided to go back to school and get my teaching certification with the end goal being an elementary school teacher. I've been a heavy Evernote user for over 2 years, and have a passion for helping teachers and students learn how to better use technology in the classroom and their studies. So today I'm launching my new blog The Class Nerd. For the first year or so, I'll mostly be posting about using Evernote and other hard/software in my graduate studies. The first post is 5 Ways Evernote Can Help You Apply for College. Once I graduate and begin teaching in my own classroom, I'll transition to discussing tech from a teacher's point of view. I would love feedback from you, the diehard Evernote users, and would appreciate you sharing the site with anyone you think is helpful. Thanks so much, and I hope it's helpful. -Craig
  20. Hello! On behalf of one of my teachers, has anyone found a way on the Mac client to hide shared tags? The teacher in question is having students create Evernote notebooks and then share them with him for a research project. But when he has 45 different notebooks shared with him, all the tags in those notebooks are creating incomprehensible clutter in his own account and there seems to be no way to filter it out. Is there any way in the current Mac client to filter tags like this, or is there a workaround? Help me please! Roger Wistar Educational Technology Facilitator The Hotchkiss School
  21. Hello, Likely a week ago now, I filled out the Evernote for Schools form, but I have not gotten any sort of reply. I even went a step further a few days later and used the EN Business contact form to email and find out about getting approval and trying to figure out what's taking so long. My principal does not want me to go ahead and invoice our school for $720 (6 users x $120) when we should not have any trouble being approved and only being charged $180 (6 users x $30). Please advice what I have done wrong, or if someone can confirm that my application has been received and give a time frame on when I can expect it to be reviewed. Much appreciated, Mike
  22. Hi all, Curating some great ideas and tips on using Evernote in Education- http://flip.it/SxDq5 Cheers, Bec
  23. I have been using Evernote to save and record discussions my students have during thier book club discussions. Initially it worked well. They could add a quick note and their audio from the ipads. I could pull the note up on my desktop and listen to their discussions. I thought I had found the perfect solution. The problem I am having is that the amount of memory the audios take limis how much we can use it. Of course the school is unable to pay for a premium subscription. I would love any suggestions.
  24. Might anyone know why in Evernote the attached Quicktime (.mov) file shows and plays fine on an iMac but not on an iPhone or iPad? 01aa.mov
  25. Hello Evernoters! It is wonderful to see how many educators are using Evernote in their Classrooms. You all have added great portfolio resources over the past few months! I am the Technology Coordinator for an International School in South Korea and in that role, I have the ability to help shape our school policy. We just got the approval to go "school-wide" with E(vernote)-Portfolios. My team and I are designing a number of resources for student/teacher/administrator/counselor use. We just started, but we are hopeful that we will have some things up soon (since there are six of us). First and foremost, our team found Portfolios for Student Growth and started using their documentation to create our user guides (with permission of course). We will continually post resources on this forum, and you can find all of the resources and documents through my personal website (until our school Technology Site is up and running). Since we are just getting going, we will try to capture as much of the startup process as we can to provide a guide for everyone else who is going through the process. Much to my chagrin, I have found that very little free information currently exists for a school-wide distribution of Evernote as an E-Portfolio Platform. We have to build momentum! Being a consultant, I understand that sometimes you have a great idea that can turn a profit, but to start the momentum, we have to get users! In that vein, everything that we create for this school-wide Evernote E-Portfolio program will be posted for free for everyone. Get them into the hands of your administrators and get some school-wide pilots going! If you have gone “school-wide” and have some useful tips, reply to this thread so that we don't all step in the same mess. Just for reference, we are using Evernote in conjunction with Google Apps for Education, PowerSchool, and Schoology. We use 1-to-1 Macbooks (grades 5-12) and 1-to-1 iPads (grades 2-5). One of the integral components of our E-Portfolio system is using Evernote Moleskine Notebooks school-wide. Evernote is helping us place a bulk order and get our kids using them, we will let you know how it turns out. If you are interested in how all of these things play well together, shoot me an email or message on the forum and we can chat. The first document that we created (attached) outlines how we are going to design our E-Portfolio system (based upon Portfolios for Student Growth) with Evernote Notebooks and postach.io blogs. Technically speaking, the attached is the portfolio overview that we will be giving to teachers as we begin the process of integrating Evernote. Happy Note-taking! Shoot us an email if you have questions! Student Portfolio Overview.pdf
