  1. Using AppleScript to Process Tags in EN Mac Continuing the discussion from: @DTLow, I started with your idea and one-line script, and did some testing to determine how to best get all child tags of a parent tag. Here's what I found: Your simple script worked, but it took ~10 sec to run with my 1500+ tags. So, after some experimentation, I came up with this approach, which takes on ~0.24 sec: AppleScript to Get List of Child Tags property ptyScriptName : "Get List of Child Tags for a Parent Tag" property ptyScriptVer : "2.0" property ptyScriptDate : "2018-07-11" property ptyScriptAuthor : "JMichaelTX" tell application "Evernote" ### This Takes about 10 sec for 1500 Tags ### (* set parentTag to tag ".NB.IT" set childTagList to name of every tag whose parent is equal to parentTag *) ### This Takes about 0.24 sec ### set parTagName to ".NB.IT" set tagNameList to name of every tag set parNameList to name of parent of every tag set childTagList to {} repeat with iTag from 1 to (count of tagNameList) set tagName to item iTag of tagNameList set parName to item iTag of parNameList if (parName = parTagName) then set end of childTagList to tagName end if end repeat end tell return childTagList -->{"SOFTWARE", "IT_List", "Electronics", "IT"} Thanks for sharing your complete script to get the list, and to do a recursive process to get all lower child tags. I'll take a look at that and see if it also can be optimized. So that would give us a list of Notes that were assigned any of the child tags. Unfortunately it would not allow any other Search criteria (like dates, inTitle, other tags), which the EN Win search will allow.
  2. Add optional color-coding for tags in Evernote for Mac, so that a note with the tag "Needs work" could appear highlighted in red in my notebook, while a note with the tag "Done" could appear highlighted in green, for example. This functionality already exists, as I understand it, for Windows, but it has yet to be added to the Mac side.
  3. Hi, I am just starting to use evernote with the secret weapon setup and want to select i.e. a notebook AND a tag at the same time in the sidebar. I´ve seen this done in instructions videos and it should be easy enough using the normal syntax with i.e. click + ctrl etc. Does anybody know how to do this simple procedure? Thanks!
  4. Hi all, For a while now, Web Clipper Version: 6.13.2 (3283464/1.1.0.926) for Firefox on Mac will not acccept the forward slash character "/" when entering tags. Web Clipper for Chrome and Safari allow it. Because my tags are set up hierarchically using the "/" to facilitate better browsing, I cannot tag clippings.
  5. I've been using Evernote for years, so my tag collection is pretty vast -- maybe 1000? In Evernote for Mac, when I try to filter notes by tag, the tag popup stays eerily empty for ages. I need to click it and re-click it a few times before any tags appear in the list -- or maybe I'm just impatient. Surely it can't be that slow (like 20-30 seconds slow) to load a list of tags? I imagine the internal database already knows which notes match which tags, so I'm guessing the delay isn't down to any on-the-fly calculations. Could filtering by tag be made speedy (and usable) please? This issue doesn't affect the iOS app, by the way -- just Mac. Thanks.
  6. This is all I want to do--I just upgraded Evernote to the latest version, but that didn't solve it. How can I sync my tags between my Mac and my iPhone? I did this earlier, but now it wont work. Anyone have an answer?
  7. I recently changed jobs, and had several shared Evernote databases in my old job that I've exported and removed from my workspace. However, tags from these old shared notebooks remain in my Evernote on the Mac (not on the web) and cannot be removed. When attempting to remove an old shared tag, I get a dialog saying "Can't delete 'tag'. This tag is in a shared notebook". An option to remove the tag from all notes exists, but it still doesn't delete the tag. There are solutions to this in the Windows forum that involve the use of a debug option to optimize the Evernote database, but I've never seen anything similar here. Anyone have any ideas? I've got a ton of these old dead tags and I want them outta here! - Barry
  8. On Evernote for Mac, all of my tags are unaccessible to view, find, select or edit in the main Tag view pane. The pane appears blank. However, I can access my tags in the Evernote iOS app and through the Web Client. I'm running Evernote Version 7.1 (456449 App Store), Editor: 43.0.4829 (edb6eb7) on an iMac with 32GB RAM under macOS 10.13.4.
  9. How do I bulk add tags on a mac? I've selected 10 notes and want to add the same tag to them all at once. I read in the forums to Click to add Tag, but click what? Where? Who? Thx
  10. When editing tags for selected notes wait until I click away to re-filter the search results. (Mac)
  11. On the Mac client, typing in the tags field produces an autocomplete list. In contrast, on the iOS client, the same typing produces a search result list. Would be great if the Mac client behaved like the iOS client. For example, if I have a tag "work.consulting.client.companyabc", I can access this tag in the iOS app by typing "client". On the Mac client, it does not display.
  12. This topic seems to be closed now, but I just made an update to the script I posted. Here is my revised script: Script to List All Tags in EN Mac Account ### UPDATED 2017-03-20 7:57 PM CT ### use AppleScript version "2.4" -- Yosemite (10.10) or later use scripting additions --————————————— tell application "Evernote" --————————————— --- GET LIST OF ALL TAG OBJECTS IN EN ACCOUNT --- -- Each Tag Object has: -- name -- Text name of Tag -- parent -- Parent Tag Object set tagList to tags --- GET NUMBER OF TAGS --- set numTags to count of tagList --- GET LIST OF TAG NAMES --- set tagNameList to name of every tag end tell
  13. I can see all my notes using my iPad and Iphone, however when I use my Mac, i only can see a few notes. Even the tags, I can see just a few using the Mac.
  14. Just sharing this useful tip for exporting a list of tags: Setup Open Terminal.app and paste in this line sudo easy_install pip Hit enter, then paste in this line: pip install evernote Note: it may require sudo pip install evernote if you already had pip and had just launched the Terminal. Hit enter. Get a developer token here: https://www.evernote.com/api/DeveloperToken.action Ready to go You'll need a text editor that can run Python scripts. I used TextMate. Open the attached script in TextMate or copy paste this into a new file: from evernote.api.client import EvernoteClient #setup Evernote Client client=EvernoteClient(token="[YOUR TOKEN HERE]", sandbox=False) #get note store object to call listTags, listTagsByNotebook, and listNotebooks on noteStore=client.get_note_store() tags=noteStore.listTags() #get list of all tags allTags = [tag.name for tag in tags] #put all the names of the tags in a list #print tags for tag in allTags: print("%s"%tag) print("") on line 3 replace [YOUR TOKEN HERE] with your developer token. Type ⌘R to run the script. Bingo! evernote_tags.py.zip
  15. I downloaded EN today (to both my iMac and my iPhone) and spent a chunk of the afternoon setting up the structure of my EN notebooks and tags following the TSW-GTD approach. It quickly became apparent that what I was seeing on my screen did not align with what was shown on TSW. So, I upgraded to EN Plus thinking that the basic version was simply missing some of the features. No change, but I muddled on ... Then I forwarded a few emails to my EN, got them in the appropriate notebook and tried to start applying tags to get my notes into my TSW structure. Using an organized notebook and tag structure is not just a TSW approach - it's also one recommended by EN at https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209006097: But I discovered that I can't simply drag notes onto the appropriate tags - in fact, I can't even see my reusable tag structure when I'm looking at my notes. If I click on tags, I can see my reusable tag structure, but then I can't see my notes. I know I can open a note (tediously, one at a time) and "click to add tags," but (again) I can't see my reusable tag structure. I can't believe that it can be this difficult to follow EN's own advice to create a logical notebook structure & define a set of reusable tags. I've spent hours this afternoon and evening on EN's various help & learning pages trying to figure out how to resolve this issue, but to no avail. I make no claim to being a tech genius, but I can usually grasp new apps and programs quickly, without undue time referencing help, and quickly becoming productive. But, this evening, I confess to feeling like a right idiot. I'd be very grateful for any guidance. Thanks!
  16. I just upgraded to version 6 and am not sure that is the problem, but I am unable to nest existing tags beneath a newly created one. Existing tags can be nested with each other just fine. But, if I create a new top level tag and drag an existing tag on top of it, it just snaps back. Am I missing something? Ken
  17. It could be great if we could organize the tags on the evernote app like on the PC software
  18. I have Evernote Plus running on a Mac and iPhone. I shared a notebook with my wife that includes 30+ tags. She also uses a Mac and iPhone. The shared notebook, notes, and tags appear on her Mac. However, on the iPhone the tags do not appear but the notebook and all notes do appear. Thank you for your assistance,Mike
  19. REQUEST: Make EN Chrome Clipper Assignment of Tags Work like in EN Win/Mac In both EN Win and EN Mac, when assigning a Tag to a Note, typing the name of the tag causes Evernote to autocomplete the tag name as I type. When the autocomplete matches the tag I want, all I have to do is hit the RETURN button. This makes it fast, easy, and accurate to assign tags. In the Chrome EN Clipper, as I type it shows matches in a list below, but does NOT autocomplete in the tag field, even if there is only one choice. Thus, I must first click the down arrow until I have selected the actual tag, and then hit RETURN. I realise that this might seem small and trivial, but it comes down to muscle memory. Since I assign most tags in EN Mac, my muscles have learned to hit RETURN as soon as the tag is found. But with Chrome, I have to remember to hit the down arrow first. As I'm sure you guys know, the more consistent the UI is across all Evernote apps/clippers, the easier it is to use for us users. This is not a huge deal that needs urgent attention. But maybe you could put it on your enhancement list for Chrome to include in the next major update to the Chrome clipper. Let me say that, in general, I love the way the Chrome EN Clipper works, and I use it many times a day. Thanks for a great product.
  20. Please excuse me if this has been discussed in the many debates of tags vs notebooks. If it has please direct me to the exact post as I can't find one. The reason I don't like tags is the way they are set up in iPad and iPhone makes them to me very user unfriendly. In other words, on EN in mac, you can click on a note and it shows the corresponding tags. With the both iOS devices, you don't had this. Instead you have to use the "Tag" option which list far to many tags and you can only click on one vs narrowing it down. Again, if this has been discussed please show me and if I am missing something would love to hear. I am trying to find a way to use tags but just having trouble with the workflow on the iOS devices.
