  1. Hi. I'm using the same Evernote version with a a fairly big database (nearly 40,000 notes) and typing in notes is not a problem. It's always difficult to know why one device is fine and another has issues, but I'd suggest you wait for a human response from Support. They can take you through reinstalls and refreshes which might help fix the lag. Although there are a few reports of bad performance, this isn't an obvious bug that can be corrected without further input from individuals. Other Windows users seem fairly happy with the latest version (or are concerned with other issues) otherwise it would be much noisier around here. Given Evernote's huge user base - and presumably therefore heavy support traffic - a few days' delay in getting back to you is not exceptional - but if it goes over a week, please post your ticket number here; we can at least get a forum Admin to look into any delays for you. -We're (mainly) users here in the Forum, not Evernote staff.
  2. Hi csihilling, thanks for your response. I'm using a new (8 month old) ASUS laptop PC that has an i7 Intel CPU and 16 GB of RAM. It has a 512 GB solid state "HD" and no disk drive. (Please note that I am not a particularly fast typist. ) Also, please be aware: I have virtually no other speed issues with any other apps besides EN for Windows. This behavior in EN for Windows can occur EVEN when the only apps open are EN for PC and a few chrome browser tabs. In other words, it seems to happen even when system resources should be amply capable of handling text entry. The "not responding" problem occurs in much the way I have seen it described in the forum: You start to type a note in EN for PC, and by the time you get to about the 5th word, you get the message, which lasts for about 10 to 20 seconds. Once the message clears, it will come up again soon though intermittently. This seems to occur particularly when first entering text in a blank or existing note. In other words, it seems to occur with a bit less frequency with a note that has already had these "hicckups," these interruptions during the same editing session. I have wondered whether the "not responding" errror results from some background activity, such as EN for PC trying to contact the EN server to begin to sync the note, despite the fact that hardly anything has been entered and there should be no urgency for this to be performed right when an EN user has some fertile idea on their mind that they want to immediately capture. Could something background activity like this be the explanation? It is beyond merely "annoying". It renders EN for Windows useless for anything but data capture. That is, the much vaunted ability of Evernote to serve as your writing app is completely undercut by these interruptions. (Remember Phil's interview with some guy who said he had written a book entirely within Evernote?) The problem has been very discouraging and made me wonder whether I should stick with the product. I've been a user for about 3 years. There is a broader point I want to make here. Considering that this problem has been pointed out in the forum for quite a long time, yet there appears not to be a resolution, I strongly suspect that the company is not aware of its huge significance. Why? If one is a software engineer, your professional performance rests on having solid neurocognitive abilities of being able to acquire and retain a lot in your short term memory. My impression is that software engineers excel at this "metaskill." In other words, it's easy for them to deal with "interruptions." As they and management and support and web page folks engage with each other to consider the company's top priorities, I can see this problem slipping down to a lower priority. As though someone asked, "So, what's the big deal? What's the problem? It's just a few interruptions~!" Well, perhaps it has escaped their attention (which would be only human) that not everyone has the cognitive strengths of software engineers. IMO, many so-called "creative" people may not possess such cognitive strengths to nearly the same degree. Thanks for your quick response. I look forward to you insight and suggestions.
  3. Ive done that. Many times. I've submitted video, special crash and performance logs from a build that spit out a higher level of diagnostics. Sadly, the answer is always the same after a while. Thanks for the valuable data, we are making progress. two years later since my last bit with this, no improvement.
  4. Yup. I get it, even after leaving Evernote Business, reducing my database to 15,000 notes at just under 8GB in size. It is absurd. I don't see this at all on my iPHone, iPad, or Mac. The Mac absolutely smokes WIndows, and my Mac is a new Macbook with a comparatively pathetic 1.2GHz processor. The Mac puts every note in a separate file - multiple files in fact if there are attachments. Windows puts everything in one big database, and it really sucks performance-wise.
  5. I find the occasional duplicate among my notes -- they're almost always web clips that I've done a couple of times without realizing, usually software development reference material, and not the important stuff that I create. So to me, it's a big "So what?" It's not like I'm hurting for storage space. It's not like having the extra copy is a burden to performance. It's not like I'm losing any information. I just delete any duplicates I run across, and move on. Might be a nice third-party tool to have in your kit, but I don't see the 'must have' in this...
  6. Happy to help Marc Evernote should advertise SSD Drive hardware to fully enjoy Evernote features and such but most important to just being able to use it rather spending time waiting for it to work Anyone having Evernote large .exb file (the place where EN store you data) SHOULD move that file onto an SSD Drive. Evernote doesn't need large RAM or fast CPU to run perfectly. It only needs a fast read/write Input/Output hard drive. For those of you who still have a doubt about this just look what hardware process Evernote uses the most when it is open (On Windows go to the Task Manager > Select Tab "Performance" > On the bottom click on "Resource Monitor" > On the "Overview" tab under "CPU" Highlight "Evernote" and tick the box to isolate all the Evernote resources hardware only to show it on the Graph > then look the yellow graph (Evernote) on the right hand side for CPU, Disk, Network and Memory and you will see the one which always reaching the max is the Disk one).
  7. I agree with MLeitch1, how many people should complain before you start responding? Such a shame! I'm very hesitant about recommending Evernote to any Windows user at the moment.. I very rarely have the ability to use it on the local client and when I really have to access something or write an important piece of information in it, I open the web interface most of the time.. I really miss the old version that showed much better performance and responsiveness.. I had a lot of excitement initially with the new look of the upgraded interface, but losing speed and access for the sake of looks definitely wasn't worth it.
  8. I have been having this problem and it is getting worse and worse. I get spinning wheels and "not responding" at least once every 15 seconds. I often look up from the keyboard and see that I have been typing ahead of Evernote by a full sentence. There's nothing indicative of a problem in the activity log. Running on Windows 7 64-bit pro with 8 GB of RAM. Perfmon shows the CPU, memory, and disk utilization are no where near maxed out. Sometimes the only program I'm running is Evernote and it still happens. Performance began to deteriorate with the major release of Evernote that happened late last year (October? the release that introduced the new "flat" looking user interface). Scrolling became jerky. But the freezing problem is more recent. It is happening so often that Evernote is becoming unusable. It's too bad. My life is in Evernote. I used to recommend it to everyone. Now I don't.
